This is the third and final book in the series! Finn has been injured in war. Delia has a bit of a scandalous relationship with her boss in the beginning but that gets done away with soon enough. Delia and Finn used to be in a relationship but circumstances had them separate. Once they are reunited, tensions are high between them. Finn agrees to help the CBD along with Delia. Finn was a great character, I really liked him. I liked how he was willing to go help the woman who helped him, even at chance of landing himself in German prison with her. Delia was a good character, I didn’t like her that much in the beginning but as the book went on I liked her. I liked how she tried her best to get Finn and the woman out. One part I really enjoyed was that Herbert Hoover was part of the story! I thought that was really cool as I didn’t know much about his life before becoming president. Good Christian content. Overall, I enjoyed this book and I recommend!

5+ stars (6/10 hearts). After pushing through the first book, which fell flat for me, and the second book, which started so well and ended by disappointing me sharply, I was a bit worried about this third book. I am so glad I stuck with it and gave it a shot, because I LOVED IT! I loved Finn—sure, he was reckless and a tiny bit cocky, but he also had a huge heart and I admired his courage. And I related so, so much to Delia—choosing the safe, shunning the risky, and calling it prudence. I love watched their character arcs, especially Delia's. I also really enjoyed the peek into the legal world, and most of all the WWI setting featuring German-occupied Belgium and the C.R.B. (and getting to know Herbert Hoover!). The last third of the book was intense but SO good, and I loved that D&F stuck to each other, communicated, apologized, and behaved like mature adults in general. Also, it was so fun to see Inga & Benedict again (and I'm SO glad he finally gets the ending he deserves!!), and even get a peek at Jonathan & Katherine. And finally, I loved the kite part of the story. 💙 Anyways, yeah, I loved this so much.

A well crafted and plotted finale to Elizabeth Camden’s Women of Midtown trilogy. The second chance romance was a nice touch to the storyline of Delia, Finn and refuge efforts in Belgium during World War One. I really enjoyed this series and this final story of the series was a great read. Finn having to overcome the long held resentment Delia has harbored for many years and then joining forces to work together to help the residents of Belguin during the German occupation made for a compelling read. Another fabulous story from one of my favorite authors!

Women of Midtown might be one of my favourite series Elizabeth Camden has written, and I loved Beyond the Clouds. I enjoyed the different settings and always appreciate the level of research that goes into each of Elizabeth's books, this one no exception. This book moves at a faster pace than her usual novels, spanning a large length of time during the war. At the same time, it dives into a lot of interesting topics - the rise of 'Bertie' Hoover, Delia's pacifist views as a paralegal vs Finn's work as a pilot, and volunteer work with the CRB, to name a few. There's always something to learn when reading one of her books.
As I mentioned before, the different settings made this book very interesting. We follow Delia and Finn from New York to Long Island, Belgium and Germany. Some of the settings are familiar if you've read the first two books in the series, but it isn't necessary to do so in order to enjoy this story.
I will note, I didn't like Delia's attempts to seduce/convince her boss to start a relationship (who is 19 years older than her). I found it an odd and uncomfortable addition to the story.
But that aside, I enjoyed this historical novel of bravery and second chances amid a quickly evolving world.

“Maybe we are insignificant nobodies, but sometimes a nobody can change the world.”
Elizabeth Camden’s novels never cease to fascinate me with the little-known bits of history she features, and I loved learning about the Commission for Relief in Belgium during WW1 on the pages of Beyond the Clouds. (I also admit to taking way longer than I should have to figure out who one of the characters really was, but in my defense I was distracted by all the sparks flying between Finn and Delia.) The existence of the CRB is something I never learned about in school, and all the nuanced reasons that they need to raise funds – and the responses to their efforts – intrigued me even further. As the narrative moves from New York to Belgium itself, a whole new sort of tension takes center stage, bringing readers to the doorstep of the war right along with the characters and allowing us to feel all their emotions too. The author excels at weaving all this compelling history so naturally into her stories, without ever feeling like we’ve strayed into ‘textbook territory’, and she excels at this again in Beyond the Clouds.
The fact that Camden’s books also occur within a vibrant intersection of characters from differing backgrounds and cultures is icing on the cake for me as a reader. Finn and Delia are no exception, nor are the supporting characters who cross their paths in this story. The ‘friends-to-enemies-to-love’ dynamic between Finn and Delia was lots of fun to read, from their intriguing backstory (as teenagers who fell in love flying kites on the rooftop of their orphanage, making plans for a cozy future together) to the sweet epilogue at the end and every interaction in between. How they got from friends-in-love to enemies is just as layered a tale as how they got turned back around the other way, with the added suspense of readers not knowing for sure how their story would ultimately end up. (If I didn’t trust this author, I might have been more concerned than I was. As it was, ‘there’s always a first time for everything’ kept niggling at the back of my mind anyway.) And the faith threads! This book has some of my favorite spiritual growth moments out of all of Camden’s novels, with Finn’s honest prayers and his conversations with Father Gerhardt topping my list.
Bottom Line: From bustling New York to war-ridden Europe, Beyond the Clouds by Elizabeth Camden pulled me in right away and wouldn’t let go. (Not that I wanted it to, mind you. Reading it in one sitting was certainly no hardship!!) The author’s gift for layering fascinating history, complex characters, and multi-dimensional tension (romance, faith, politics, friendship, etc.) shines in this latest novel, to the point that I can’t decide what captured my attention more between the three. I love that I was entertained, educated AND gently challenged by Finn & Delia’s story, and I closed the book feeling all the more grateful for the ‘nobodies’ who quietly changed history for us all.

The Women of Midtown series has been outstanding. I've read all three books, and each tells a strong story. Beyond the Clouds is historical fiction from World War 1 in 1917.
Delia Byrne and Finn Delaney met as kids in an orphanage, and in their teens, they fell in love. A mix-up, hidden truths, and grudges tore them apart. Years pass, and war brings them back together. Delia is working for the CBD, which supplied food supplies to occupied Belgium. Finn is now a celebrated war hero who flew planes over France, was shot down, and was rescued by good Belgian people. Soon, they are working together to raise support and funds for the CBD. It starts rough as Delia still fumed over Finn taking their saved cash for a future kite shop. She refused to forgive him.
The story shares deep emotions for the characters and the readers. Delia starts to forgive, and Finn learns to forgive himself. Both grow stronger and braver than they ever thought, and angst hits hard at times.
I loved this second-chance romance. Elizabeth Camden researched the era's people and events in depth. I highly recommend you read all three books in this series. Each one was so unique and worth every minute of reading. Beyond the Clouds was a fabulous novel to end this series.

I really enjoyed Beyond the Clouds! I haven’t read many books set during WWI so I found myself interested in the history in this book. This book was fast-paced and intriguing!
Delia and Finn were both really likable characters! I especially loved Finn’s character! I loved his compassion for people, his determination, and his bravery.❤️ While Delia wasn’t my favorite in the beginning, she really grew on me as the story progressed. I really enjoyed watching her character growth throughout the story as well.
My favorite trope is friends-to-lovers, especially when the characters met as kids, so I loved the romance in this book! Delia and Finn’s story was so sweet and got me teary-eyed towards the end.❤️ There were points of this story that were breaking my heart.
I loved the themes of forgiveness, courage, friendship, and history in this story. The different settings of this story also made it an interesting read. There was plenty of action to keep me invested!
In conclusion, I really liked Beyond the Clouds! This is only the second book I’ve read by Elizabeth Camden but I’m definitely interested in reading more of her books in the future! Beyond the Clouds is rich in historical elements while maintaining a brilliant fictional plot.
The unique twists sprinkled through the story had me curious at the edge of my seat.
The romance was slow and tender, taking "friends to lovers" to entirely new level. Both characters were flawed in their own ways yet complimented each other. The side characters were lovable (well mostly) and played a vital part to the story unfolding.
The faith elements were well done with the characters' growth and encouragement from the clergy members God brought into their lives at the perfect time.
This is a wonderful story that I can see myself re-reading.

This second chance romance is a saga that takes us from an orphanage right to occupied Belgium in the midst of the First World War. It's a sweeping journey that catapults readers from the luxuries of life in New York to the plight of those on rations and lost freedoms. It's also a journey into forgiveness and shared humanity, with prayers for peace and an end to the war.
I appreciate that this book tackles the moral dilemmas of pacifism and just war, adding a layer of complexity to how people can respond to evil. Elizabeth Camden writes fiercely intelligent books that causes readers to think while exploring the depths of human emotions in such a way that it's easy to envision oneself within the story. Elizabeth Camden expertly writes heroines who are a smidge older, a bit wizened, who think they know what they want. Delia is a perfect example. She thinks she knows what job/future/man she wants. Then Finn Delaney reenters her life and she realizes she could not be more wrong. But Finn has a lot to learn too! This made me laugh and cry at turns and even wonder if Camden would commit genre betrayal and kill off the hero. I thoroughly enjoyed this WWI story.

Elizabeth Camden always does such a great job of creating unique and rich characters whom readers cannot help but be drawn in with and putting readers right into a time in history with well researched settings that perfectly weave real historical events with fictional stories. This one was no exception. Immediately I was drawn into Finn and Delia's second chance romance... a romance started as teenagers in an orphanage and given a second chance as fate brings them back together in the midst of WWI. Theirs was a story filled with heartbreak and danger, but one that ultimately had a feeling of hope. It was a beautiful story and one that fans of historical romance are sure to want to experience for themselves.
Beyond the Clouds is part of The Women of Midtown series. I had not personally read the previous books in the series and found I was able to enjoy this one as a standalone.

Delia and Finn grew up in an orphanage and developed a strong friendship which blossomed into romance as they grew older. Even though they had dreams of opening their own kite shop, Finn had bigger dreams of flying. He stole (borrowed) the money that they were saving for their business to follow his dream. He had intentions of paying Delia back, but she felt betrayed and angry. She wouldn’t accept his money or forgive him. Over the next few years, Finn was injured while flying for the French in WWI and was honored as a war hero upon his return to New York City. In the meantime, Delia has become a committed pacifist. Their different views and the obstacles of forgiveness and overcoming past betrayals seem insurmountable.
In an unexpected turn of events, Finn and Delia are required to work together for CRB, a humanitarian organization to feed hungry Belgians. (do you love a forced proximity trope?!)
Complications arise when Finn risks everything to return to Belgium with plans to help a woman who rescued him when his plane was shot down in Belgium. While there, he is captured and imprisoned as a war criminal. This is when our admiration for Delia grows as she goes to Belgium and fights for his release and for humane treatment for him and other prisoners.
Thoughtful themes include second chance romance, sacrifice, friendship, loyalty, forgiveness, compassion, pacifism, bravery, risking it all, and heroism.
Fans of WWI historical fiction will enjoy these memorable characters and the engaging and inspirational story with its page-turning conclusion and poignant themes of forgiveness and compassion.

The Women of Midtown is one of my all-time favorite series. With each book, I fall more and more in love with Elizabeth Camden’s extraordinary writing style. She has outdone herself with every book in this series. Back when I finished reading While the City Sleeps, I instantly knew that this entire series would hold a special place in my heart. I was not wrong, and I am thankful to have been able to read this series and be able to recommend it to others. If you haven’t read anything by Elizabeth Camden yet, this series is a wonderful place to start. All of the books that I have read of hers have been some of the best that I have read, and I hope you pick up one of her stories as soon as you can!
I love how this book was set during World War I. I don’t have enough books on my shelf that are set during that war, and I am so glad that Elizabeth Camden chose to write this series during those years. The history she pens for readers to be intrigued by is simply amazing. The dedication and research she worked so obviously hard on shines brightly on every page. Whether you have a large or small knowledge of the history of the war, everyone will enjoy this book. I have to admit to knowing little about some of the history that was portrayed here. I learned so much within the pages of Beyond the Clouds.
The relationship between Delia and Finn was beautiful but complex. They had been childhood friends and sweethearts, but they ended up being separated and not seeing each other until many years later. I love how this book was set during World War I. I don’t have enough books on my shelf that are set during that war, and I am so glad that Elizabeth Camden chose to write this series during those years. The history she pens for readers to be intrigued by is simply amazing. The dedication and research she worked so obviously hard on shines brightly on every page. Whether you have a large or small knowledge of the history of the war, everyone will enjoy this book. I have to admit to knowing little about some of the history that was portrayed here. I learned so much within the pages of Beyond the Clouds.
The relationship between Delia and Finn was beautiful but complex. They had been childhood friends and sweethearts, but they ended up being separated and not seeing each other until many years later. They ended up meeting again, united by a cause that both of them cared about. At first, it was hard for Delia to trust him again, but I loved reading how they found happiness together once again.

Captivating historical fiction about true events I didn't know about, wrapped in an excellent story!! My favorite type of story!
"Finn dragged himself another yard in the mud as agony shot through his mangle leg. He needed to hide. The pilot who shot him down had probably already landed at the German airfield two miles away, and it wouldn't be long before a search party was sent to capture him." "He couldn't die now. Delia hadn't forgiven him yet."
"Delia was only thirteen when she landed at St. Michael's home for Orphans, where she met Finn." She is a pacifist which is difficult to be in a war. She decides she can be useful working for an important cause behind the scenes.
Great historical fiction, brought me to tears and taught me more about WWI.
Finn learns to fly with Glen Curtiss, he comes home a war hero, and is tapped to work with Delia and Bertie Hoover to raise money for the CRB, Commission for Relief in Belgium. (The CRB was a private organization that, against all odds, managed to feed nearly ten million Belgians and northern French trapped behind German lines, facing imminent starvation.) What solitary confinement at Saint Gilles Prison in Brussels was like, a loveable character who is another prisoner and a godsend. Father Gerhardt was a gentle yet powerful voice of wisdom to those around him. The reader is also reminded that once war was over, life didn't get back to a new normal for quite a while.
Themes of forgiveness, how far are people willing to go to help those they love, or to atone for bringing harm to someone?

I’ve so enjoyed the Women of Midtown series! Elizabeth Camden is an auto-read author for me, and I’ve been eagerly anticipating this third new book of the series: Beyond the Clouds.
Beyond the Clouds is set just as the United States entered World War 1. Delia, the FMC, finds herself working for the Commission for Relief in Belgium (CRB,) while Finn, the MMC, is a war hero who recently returned to America after having flown with the French as a volunteer.
I’ll admit that I didn’t love these characters, especially Delia, but I was absolutely FASCINATED with the history included in this story! I loved learning about the CRB and found the story’s inclusion of Herbert Hoover as a character to be so very interesting. I truly learned a lot about America’s 31st president and about Belgium during the German occupation from this book!
Additionally, it was fun to get to “catch up” with some of the characters from previous books in this series through this story.
I’ve often said this past year that I wished there were more WWI fiction. Well, here you go! Another WWI story to add to your list. 🙂

It’s never easy to read a wartime novel, but Beyond the Clouds is inspirational yet real. Elizabeth Camden weaves history with romance and humanity with a poignancy that evokes contemplation and reflection. I always enjoy her novels and walk away from each one having learned something new. I’m excited for more from her! 4/5 stars

Another magnificent WWI novel from Ms. Camden! It was so captivating that I stayed up very late into the night to finish it.
One of my favorite things about the author’s novels is the incredible amount of research woven into the story. It’s historically accurate, yet narrated in such an engaging way that it never feels like a history lesson. Instead, you feel as though you’re right there with the characters—struggling alongside them and almost smelling the stench, perfume, or whatever scent is being described. I felt completely transported to the era, and I loved learning more about World War I. I was especially fascinated by the Commission for Relief that America established to send food to starving Belgians. Watching Finn and Delia work together for this cause was both inspiring and admirable.
Without a doubt, the best part of the book was the characters—especially the main ones. Finn, aside from becoming my new book boyfriend, was one of the most endearing heroes I’ve read in a long time. His devotion to Delia, his concern for others to the point of self-sacrifice, his loyalty, ingenuity, humility, resilience, and—yes—his charm made him unforgettable. He was genuine and unconcerned with others’ expectations. The patience and gentleness with which he pursued Delia were completely heart-melting. I often wondered how Delia managed to resist him at all.
Delia herself was a strong-minded woman—initially infatuated with the wrong person, but once she gives her heart again, it’s unconditional and unwavering. Her generosity in serving the cause, her pacifist idealism, her naivety, and her heart of gold made her a compelling and admirable heroine. The romance between her and Finn was sweet, swoon-worthy, and brought me to tears—especially toward the end, which was utterly unputdownable.
The book was so vivid that I could feel all the angst, fear, and disappointment, as well as the hope, faith, and love the characters shared—for each other, for humanity, and for their country. The last part was heart wrenching, but still full of hope. The faith thread touched me deeply. I loved Finn’s natural relationship with God and his heartfelt prayers, and how he helped Delia see reason and gently dismantle the walls she had built out of pride. The message of faith in a God who never forsakes us, even in the direst circumstances, and always knows what is best resonated strongly with me.
Quote from Delia I liked: “Courage could change the world. Courage wasn’t the absence of fear, but the ability to overcome her trepidation and act in spite of it”.
I don’t have enough words to praise this book. I think it’s my favorite in the series, and I highly recommend reading the entire series—especially if you love richly detailed historical romance.

All the love for this sweeping WWI epic! Beyond the Clouds grabbed my heart & didn’t let go. I’ve loved the Women of Midtown series, & this touching conclusion is the perfect capstone. Elizabeth Camden delivers a brilliant, swoon-worthy childhood friends-to-enemies-to-second-chance romance, rich with fascinating historical detail & a heroic story of sacrifice, courage, & faith.

This beautiful story gave me ALL the emotions. Finn and Delia’s second-chance romance unfolding in the chaos of WWI strikes the perfect balance between heartbreak and hope.
I loved the contrast between Finn’s war-hero status and Delia’s pacifism. It adds so much tension to their already fragile relationship. Their backstory honestly brought me to tears, and the moment they see each other again is absolute perfection!! The romance is a slow burn rather than flashy, but that just makes everything feel so much more earned in the end.
Their relationship is oh, so romantic but also abiding, even as war threatens to tear them apart once again. Old wounds, lingering feelings, and danger behind enemy lines…what more could you ask for?
There’s so much rich historical detail woven into this story, and I loved that parts of the plot are grounded in real history. This is the third book in a wonderful series, but it absolutely works as a standalone, though I highly recommend reading them all!
If you like second chance romance with high stakes and historical depth, you do not want to miss this series! 4.5 stars

The third book in the Women of Midtown series is an exhilarating redemption story about two young lovers, a betrayal that rips them apart, and the harrowing journey they must make to find each other again. Set it in the time of the Great War, Delia and Finn find themselves working together for the Commission for Relief in Belgium (CRB), an organization that is committed to providing food and supplies to the people in German-occupied Belgium and northern France. Finn is a decorated war hero that is convalescing back home in America, whereas Delia is a legal assistant that aids her boss in fighting for the rights of German-American citizens facing cruelty in the United States. After several years apart, the two cross paths and are assigned to work together on a new fundraising campaign run by Herbert Hoover to stir wealthy donors into supporting their cause. While Delia and Finn work through their tumultuous past, an impulsive mission drives Finn behind enemy lines, putting his life in danger. Through diplomacy and faith, Delia must race against the clock to save Finn.
This book was my favorite in the series, by far. I loved the dramatic love story, the history, the faith, and the resurfacing of Inga and Benedict from Elizabeth Camden's previous book. There is something very intriguing about Elizabeth Camden's writing that truly captivates readers. In this particular story, the historical events were well researched, the characters were well built, and the faith was integrated tastefully. Delia and Finn's story in Belgium is one that I will not forget.

I loved all three novels in this Women of Midtown series and I had no idea that this all happened during WWI. Delia and Finn came from the same orphanage growing up, however when he steals her savings to chase his dream of learning to fly, she cannot believe her best friend did this to her and left her behind. Delia has always given strong support to the CRB who helps send food, aid and supplies to those in Belgium. When she is paired up with Finn to work to raise as much funding as they can for the CRB, she can hardly believe it. Finn's story of escape will make people open their wallets and she has to do what she can to keep him in line and make sure all the paperwork is in order for any and all donations. Hearing his story and what really happened to him, make her only push harder for donations but when he makes another rash decision after finding out that the one who saved and helped him has been taken into custody, Delia must decide if she is going to stay in her safety net as she has her whole life, or take the chance of an opportunity to save Finn, their relationship and those he refuses to fail. There is so much history in this novel and I learned a lot. I also loved learning about Bertie and who he became later in life. I think this is my favorite of the series. Thank you to the publisher and author for the complementary novel. This review is of my own opinion and accord.

I've been waiting a whole year to finally read the end of the Women of Midtown series from my favorite author, Elizabeth Camden. This series has followed the lives of three young ladies from New York City who all reside at the Martha Washington, an apartment building for single women only, amidst the chaos that is WWI.
If you're a fan of second change romances, opposites attract, or the best friends to lovers tropes, you're going to love Beyond the Clouds. Delia and Finn are given a second chance to fall in love when they're reunited after a long separation and betrayal. I don't want to give anything away, but this book had me in tears. It's a beautiful story of true love and the sacrifices that sometimes the challenges of life requires.
I loved the little twist near the end, which I didn't see coming, but enjoyed the historic connection I hadn't made. Overall, I enjoyed this book so much, and was very happy for Delia to finally get her happy ending. There's humor and heart, and this book will have you flying as high as Delia and Finn's kites.
I wasn't a fan of the repeated references to cigarettes and cigars, and as a Baptist, I disagree with making confession to a priest, but these were small details that didn't quell my overall enjoyment of the story.
I highly recommend the Women of Midtown series. Each book can standalone without the need to read the others, but I'd encourage you to add them all to your TBR.

The story focuses on Delia Byrne and Finn Delaney, who meet when they are young and living at an orphanage. They fall in love and have dreams, but while Finn dares to put those dreams into action, Delia is terrified to move away from her safe, comfortable life. Finn’s actions will separate them for many years, with Delia remaining angry at him for something he did when they were young.
The years pass, and they meet again. Finn as a war hero and Delia as a pacifist working behind the scenes to help those who couldn’t help themselves. While I loved learning about the relief efforts for those in Belgium, I found that Delia’s unforgiving attitude toward Finn made her an unlikable character, and so their “romance” was not something I could relate to. I just didn’t feel it, and unfortunately, it made their romance unbelievable. However, the danger and Finn's story kept me reading.

I always look forward to a new book from Elizabeth Camden. Her books never disappoint, and I always learn something new and interesting about history. I didn’t think this book could top the previous one, but it did. I loved it so much!
I wouldn’t say that Finn and Delia were very likable at the beginning of the story. Finn was quite arrogant, and Delia’s attitude and pursuit of a relationship with her much older boss were off-putting. But that didn’t hinder my enjoyment of the story one bit. In fact, as the story progressed, and I got to know them better, and as they experienced growth, they became some of my favorite characters I've read about in a long time.
It was interesting to see what it was like in Belgium during WWI. I had no idea! I also enjoyed the fact that Herbert Hoover was a character in the story. I didn’t know much about him before his presidency, so I appreciated learning more about him.
I loved seeing characters from the previous books and catching up with them a little bit. But even if you haven’t read the first two books, this can be read as a standalone perfectly fine.
This book gets a huge recommendation from me. It’s going on my favorites shelf. I loved it so much and can’t wait to see what Camden writes next.

Becoming a war hero in the US. Delia's values as a pacifist could not support the war effort. She volunteers for a relief organization to bring rations to famine stricken Belgium. In doing so she comes face to face with the man she hates.
I deeply respect Ms. Camden's in-depth research into her historical novels. Her attention to detail continues to surround every book I have read. Not only details concerning the time period, but the characters as well. The story covers a range of emotions from love, anger, bravery and forgiveness.

There is so much going on in this story of two young people in love, separated by circumstances and choices that I was trying to soak it all in. Hold in my pounding heart as war rages. The emotional impact is what really drew me in and invested me in the journey of both Finn and Delia.
The historical elements added so much depth and reality, moving this from a good book to a great read. This may have been the clearest picture I’ve seen in fiction concerning the time around WWI. I learned a thing or two and enjoyed delving into a time not often written about.
The characters are well fleshed out and I particularly liked Finn. There was just something about him. I wanted to get to know him more, yet at the same time felt as if he were already a friend. Delia was memorable as well but I struggled a bit with her unforgiving attitude toward Finn.
