I am fascinated by the spiritual realm and by those who claim to be able to communicate with it - I am neither a firm believer nor disbeliever, so I guess I read books like this in the hope that one will finally help me decide one way or the other. This book was undoubtedly intriguing, but I wanted more. It wasn’t always focussed on ‘the gift’ itself, but was distracted by historical details, personal facts, interactions with others in the non-spiritual plain, and on the psychology of grief/depression/loss etc. I understand the need for those discussions, but I picked up this book more as an evidentiary tool than a teaching/learning aid, so any disappointment on my part is probably my own fault for having inaccurate expectations of this book before jumping into it.

In Psychic Case Files, the reader is taken on a journey through some of the author's personal files. He begins with explanations (always a good choice), discussing what he, as a psychic medium does and how he does it. The next two parts deal with the cases he has investigated (the first with people, and the second with three "unexplained" mysteries - Jack the Ripper, a church in France with connections to Mary Magdalene and a village reputed to still be home to witches). The book ends with a short discussion on the stages of grief and when it's appropriate to contact a psychic.

The language of Psychic Case Files is down to earth - both in lack of technical terms and the grammar. I found some of his concepts of death and after-death interesting, though I read more with an open-mindset than firm belief (I'm not sure what I believe in...). I'm not familiar with Mr. Stockwell's work other than this book, so it was a good introduction to what he does.

I always like these type of books. I like to think that there is another world than just this one, and the loved ones we have lost are just waiting for us there. Sorry can't accept that you just die! and thats it.
