Excellent book, very touching but also interesting, probably more so as the hospital is only 20 minutes away and I was a payroll officer with the NHS at that time and we paid the staff there. Have seen a couple of documentary series but always find a book better
This is an account of the events at Grantham Hospital in 1990 that caused death, mental or physical disability to so many children. We see things from the point of view of the parents, the staff on ward four at the hospital and also family and friends of Allitt. The saddest thing for me was the bungling and inefficient way that the hospital dealt with the situation. If only there had been some communication between staff, management, and doctors then the whole thing my not have ended in such tragedy. Also what seemed to be the deliberate withholding of information is unbelievable. Allitt although obviously a sick individual was calculating, cunning and vicious in the extreme. It frightens me that Allitt was able to get so far into the medical profession and be in a position to do such dreadful harm without any alarm bells ringing. (less)
