Christmas Wishes for the Bletchley Park Girls (Lily Baker # 5) by Patricia A McBride. (Audiobook read on Hoopla app)
The four friends Lily,Bronwyn, Peggy, and Caroline continue to do their best for their war effort working at Bletchley Park. They each find some fun participating in the plays well admittedly it’s more Caroline watching her boyfriend than her participation. This is admittedly my least favorite book in the series there is so much glossed over.
True , each girl has her own set of challenges to face. However, my personal opinion is for the most part the other girls stories are rather in the background and Lily is the main one we hear from. And really even her story could have been hashed out more.
For example more can be explored with Bronwyns character getting to know the widower and his daughter. The challenges she would face being the other special woman in her dads life.
It would have been Interesting to hear more of Peggy’s thoughts and feelings with her situation. More of her thoughts as she reached the decision she did.
And Caroline.. I felt bad for her at first when we find out about her boyfriend but she does something even worse and honestly I wanted to know how her new man’s pregnant wife got along than how Caroline dealt with it.
Still just my own personal issues with the book. I doubt I’d read anymore if the series continued.
Excellent storylines of lives associated with Station X ( Bletchley Park) The work of so many clever personnel over every 24 hours and 7 days a week shortened the duration of WW2 but their existence was so limited and hard. Romances and hardships excellently described Historically it can be experienced the drastic conditions endured Gratitude never forgotten
Wow what a story, from beginning to end loved it, but in the other book the Bletchley girls they found a German spy called Doreen what happened to her? But what a great story teller you well done
I have really enjoyed the whole series of the Lily Baker books. The books are very enjoyable and enlightening in regard to WW11. I highly recommend them to anyone that wants to learn how it was for the those going through the war on a daily basis in England.
Have really enjoyed the book but am disappointed with the ending The war hadn't ended & you don't really find out what happens to them all I think it would have been if done a epilogue saying about each of them not just Lily as it felt as there should have been another book but this is the final one On a positive not I really enjoyed the book & if you can get over that the war isn't over you would enjoy it but you do need to read the series in order to follow who is who & how they all met ect
