Rate this book
When seasoned fishermen Mick, Dan and Travis Thompson discover the wreck of the luxury yacht Seraphine, they think they’ve stumbled upon a mystery, and maybe a rescue.

But as the survivors cling to life aboard the Thompsons’ modest trawler, the Dogtooth, something stirs beneath the waves.
A monstrous great white, ancient, relentless, and hungry, begins to circle.

Now, miles from shore and running out of time, two families must battle the sea, the elements, and the most fearsome predator ever to live.

The ocean has one only the strong survive.

Dogtooth is a sharp, punchy novella that delivers far more impact than its short length suggests. There’s no wasted space here—every scene moves the story forward with purpose and energy.

One of the standout elements is the brother relationship. Their dynamic is genuinely funny and incredibly relatable, balancing humor with tension in a way that feels natural rather than forced. The banter, the rivalry, and the underlying loyalty make their interactions a joy to read and add real emotional weight to the story.

What really makes Dogtooth shine is how efficiently it tells its story. It packs action, character, and heart into a tight narrative that leaves a strong impression long after the final page. This is the kind of novella you finish in one sitting—and immediately wish there was more.

A thrilling, entertaining, and well-crafted read. Highly recommended.

I just finished Dogtooth by S.F. Sowter, and wow, what a ride! I devoured this book in just an hour because I simply couldn’t put it down. It has everything you could want: family dynamics, suspense, action, heartbreaking moments and of course, a bloody big shark!!!
I found myself laughing, crying, and literally sitting on the edge of my seat throughout.

The story is gripping, the characters are compelling, and the twists hit hard bringing in emotions I didn’t think I would find in a novella. The only downside? It ended far too quickly. I wanted so much more, but 3 days later I’m still here thinking about the events of this book, it’s brilliant. If you’re looking for a book that hooks you from the first page and takes you on an emotional rollercoaster, Dogtooth is a must-read 🤍
