It’s been three years since Dr. Kylie Saunders came face-to-face with her friend’s killer, and Dr. Blake Weathers saved her life. Though the past may be behind them, what happened between Kylie and Blake remains unfinished.
When Kylie and Blake are invited to the Hamptons by their mutual friend, the vacation offers everyone a chance for a fresh start.
But Kylie isn't arriving alone. Her new boyfriend, Danny, is joining them, and as tensions flare between Danny and Blake, so too does Kylie's unease about the couple next door, Celeste and Roland Greer.
Socialite Celeste appears to have it all—limitless money, beautiful looks, and a powerful husband—until Kylie witnesses a concerning confrontation between them, and the veneer of their perfect life cracks.
By morning, the couple is dead. And the closer Kylie gets to the truth, the harder someone tries to keep it buried.
But in the Hamptons, nothing stays a secret for long.
*Please note that it is best to read The Resident Murder before The Socialite Murder as there are spoilers in The Socialite Murder.
Hi! I'm a new author who writes medical and psychological thrillers. My debut thriller, The Resident Murder is currently for sale here: https://geni.us/ResidentMurder
The Socialite Murder was an excellent, suspenseful read. The mystery unfolded slowly, building up to a tense storyline. The writing was beautifully written, and the book was incredibly detailed. I loved Jessi’s writing style and the creation of the characters. Overall, a wonderful story and great plot.
This is the perfect summer read! No spoilers, but I’m so happy it ended the way it did and can’t wait to see what Jessi Kroft cooks up for book #3! If you haven’t read The Resident Murder, start there and then grab this one!
This was my second book by her, and I already can’t wait to dive into my third. I love her writing style—the story flows so naturally, and the twists and turns kept me guessing until the very end.
Everything is woven together beautifully, with each piece of the puzzle falling into place at just the right moment. The pacing is excellent, the mystery is engaging, and every reveal feels satisfying.
If you enjoy well-crafted mysteries with plenty of surprises, I highly recommend this one. Another easy five stars from me!
I loved The Resident Murder and was beyond excited to receive this ARC from the author. This sequel absolutely delivered!
Kylie, Blake, and Stratton return, and honestly, this felt like the perfect follow-up. If you love bingeable thrillers that completely consume your day because you have to know how it ends, this is definitely the book for you.
This book completely sucks you in and makes you feel like you are part of the storyline, uncovering secrets and trying to discover the truth right alongside the characters.
The vibes in this one are rich people, social status, murder, scandal, secrets, lies, and manipulation. Everyone is a suspect, nothing is as it seems, and you never know who or what to believe. I was constantly second-guessing myself right up until the final reveal!
Fast paced, addictive, and packed with suspense, The Socialite Murder is the perfect summer thriller read!
This long-awaited sequel to the medical thriller I read a few months back truly does not disappoint! I love that this installment shifts to an entirely different setting, moving from the familiar Gray's Anatomy hospital vibe to the upscale environment of the Hamptons, making it fittingly titled "The Socialite Murder."
The story unfolds through various points of view, including some familiar characters from the first book, allowing us to dive deeper into their lives as they evolve. The perspectives come from Kylie, Celeste, Blake, and Penelope, and there's even a dual timeline that enriches character development and sheds light on past events. Each character is distinct and well-crafted, making it easy to keep track of who’s who. Which characters will capture your heart, and who will you find yourself rooting for? That’s entirely up to you, but be prepared, a lot is going on, so keep your eyes peeled for clues sprinkled throughout.
The events and surroundings were described so vividly that I could almost smell the fresh air and feel the sand between my toes. It created an intimate and secluded atmosphere within this upscale neighborhood, often associated with the lives of the wealthy. You could sense the dynamics of friendship and the complex feelings about the past, as if you were right there at the breakfast table, witnessing it all unfold.
This series is perfect for anyone who enjoys diverse characters, intriguing settings, and dark secrets lurking behind closed doors. It's clear that not everything is as it appears, and it’s crucial to question certain behaviors and advocate for those who can't or won't speak up for themselves. This is, of course, a sensitive topic, as it often comes down to, he said, she said, but witnessing any form of abuse must be addressed. Unless you don't mind ending up dead? Ha!
Overall, this is a fast-paced, gripping, and undeniably dark read that offers plenty of twists and turns to keep you engrossed long after you should have turned in for the night. If you’re drawn to the allure of glamorous lives, beachside murders, and the thrill of solving true crimes, look no further. This book has it all! I'm eagerly anticipating the third book in the series, as I enjoyed this one even more than the first, which was already quite good!
Thank you, Jessi and Literary Loft PR, for the DRC copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The Socialite Murder by Jessi Kroft immediately pulled me back into Dr. Kylie Saunders world and kept me hooked from the very first chapter.
Set against the glamorous backdrop of the Hamptons this story perfectly captures the contrast between wealth, privilege and the dark secrets hidden beneath polished appearances.
What I loved most was how every character felt suspicious. Just when I thought I had everything figured out another revelation made me question my theories all over again.
The multi POV storytelling worked incredibly well slowly peeling back layers of deception, resentment and hidden motives.
Overall this is an addictive suspenseful thriller filled with mystery, drama and compelling characters that I absolutely loved reading!
I almost never enjoy a sequel more than the original. Yet, though I really liked The Resident Murder, I think I enjoyed Book 2 in the series, The Socialite Murder, even more.
Book 2 takes us to the Hamptons. I love some rich people drama, and this is the prime setting for exactly that. Between the wealthy socialites, secrets and murder, this one was right up my alley.
One of my favourite things about this series is that I’m just as invested in Kylie, Blake and Stratton as I am in the murder mystery itself. I genuinely care what happens to these characters, which made it so easy to slip back into their world and pick up where we left off.
Good grief, Stratton is one unlucky guy when it comes to the people closest to him.
I was beyond happy to see confirmation in the author’s note that this series is continuing because I already can’t wait for Book 3. It feels like there’s still so much more to learn about Kylie, Blake and Stratton, and after a few moments in this book, I’m very curious to see what’s coming next for all three of them.
I’m officially invested in this series now and will be impatiently waiting for the next instalment.
I received an advance review copy of this book, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to read it.
I absolutely loved The Socialite Murder. Jessi Kroft’s writing pulled me in from the very beginning, and I loved catching up with familiar characters while diving into a completely new mystery.
The pacing kept me hooked, and the twists had me questioning every theory I came up with. Just when I thought I knew where the story was headed, another reveal proved me wrong. Those are exactly the kinds of thrillers I love.
If you’re looking for a suspenseful mystery with great characters, plenty of surprises, and a story that’s difficult to put down, I definitely recommend this one.
I’m already looking forward to seeing what Jessi Kroft writes next.
I want to say thank you to Jessi Kroft for the ARC of this book. I truly appreciate the opportunity! If you like thrillers that keep you up at night to see what happens next in the book then you are going to love The Socialite Murder. I finished this book in 1 day that’s how good it was it’s full of great plot twists & turns that you will not see coming & I did not see that ending coming at all. This book is up one of my favorite books of 2026!
It’s been several years since the events of book one, and I loved jumping back into Kylie’s world in The Socialite Murder. Kylie and her new boyfriend are invited to spend a week in the Hamptons with Stratton and his fiancée, Penelope… but things get a little awkward when her ex Blake is also on the guest list. Add in some strange things going on with the neighbours, Celeste and Roland, and you just know something is about to go terribly wrong.
The glamorous, wealthy setting mixed with the underlying tension and secrets had me constantly second guessing who could be trusted. The chemistry and history between the characters add another layer to the mystery, and the twists kept me hooked right to the end.
If you love elite social circles, messy relationships and a murder mystery packed with secrets and tension, this one is definitely worth picking up. I felt like it didn’t quite wrap up at the end though so I need a book three!
I feel repetitive because I just wrote a similar review, but this sequel to 'the resident murder' was a-ma-zing. Just as good, if not better than. I had a really good time reading this. It was well-written, suspenseful and I loved getting to know the characters even more. I cannot wait for more!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This book was not what I expected it to be. The book again revolves around Kylie and Blake. What started as a vacation but ended up in a murder mystery. Blake's character has evolved with the time. He has finally started working to be a better person. Though he and Kylie are not together yet he still feels for her deep inside his heart. Kylie's character has also developed. In the last book she has suffered so much but in this book I was happy that she is finally trying to move on with her life. Her care for Blake is still there deep down even she still feels for him. The main interesting thing in the book was the plot and how amazing it was, the twist in the end was something I didn't expect. I was so shocked during all the findings. Now I can't wait for the third book.
I won a copy from GoodReads (thank you!) I hadn't read the first book so I went and purchased it, I was immediately hooked! Just finished The Socialite Murder and cannot wait for the third book!
This book is not just a medical thriller, it is an emotional storm wrapped inside hospital corridors, complicated relationships, and hidden trauma. "The Resident Murder" blends suspense with psychological depth in a way that keeps you constantly uneasy, yet completely hooked.
At the heart of the story is Kylie, a second-year neurology resident in Manhattan. What makes her character stand out is how human she feels. She is brilliant, hardworking, and observant, yet constantly battling self-doubt. Her imposter syndrome, her exhaustion, her quiet overthinking, everything about her feels authentic. As a reader, I didn’t just watch her story unfold, I felt her anxiety, her confusion, and her emotional vulnerability. She is ambitious but soft-hearted, strong yet unsure. That balance makes her incredibly relatable.
Then there is Blake Weathers, the neurosurgery resident who brings intensity into the narrative. Blake is charismatic, confident, and carries a certain magnetic darkness. On the surface, he appears controlled and almost invincible, especially in his professional life. But the author carefully peels back his layers, revealing emotional scars that shape his personality. His complexity is what makes him compelling. He is not written as a simple romantic interest or a flat suspicious character, he feels layered, unpredictable, and psychologically intriguing.
One of the strongest aspects of this novel is how author builds tension without rushing. The unease grows gradually. Small details, subtle observations, and emotional inconsistencies create a constant sense of discomfort. The story does not rely only on dramatic twists; instead, it uses atmosphere. There is always a quiet tension beneath conversations, beneath romantic moments, beneath hospital interactions.
The supporting characters add richness to the narrative. Lisa, Kylie’s best friend, brings both humor and grounding energy. She is blunt, practical, and protective. Through Lisa, we see the contrast between emotional stability and chaos. Her presence balances Kylie’s emotional vulnerability beautifully.
Chloe is another powerful character. She is polished, disciplined, admired, almost someone Kylie aspires to be like. Her presence in the story adds emotional weight, especially as the tension surrounding her builds. She represents perfection on the surface, but her storyline adds a darker layer to the book’s central mystery.
Stratton, Chloe’s brother, is written in a way that subtly unsettles the reader. His charm feels slightly off-balance, and that discomfort is intentional. Even minor characters like Marta, Bailey, Hassan, Anaya, and Chief Resident Mae Lang contribute to making the hospital environment feel real and immersive. The residency setting is not just a backdrop, it becomes a character in itself. The exhaustion, competition, hierarchy, and pressure are portrayed with striking realism.
What I truly appreciated is how the novel explores deeper themes- trauma, power, loneliness, and the psychological impact of childhood experiences. Especially through Blake’s background, the author shows how early wounds can silently shape adult behavior. The idea of control and power, particularly in the medical field , is handled thoughtfully.
Emotionally, this book feels heavy in the best way. There is romance, but it is never purely soft or dreamy. There is suspense, but it is rooted in human psychology rather than just crime. The writing style is engaging and easy to follow, yet layered enough to make you think.
If I mention a small critique, at times the emotional push-and-pull in Kylie and Blake’s dynamic feels slightly prolonged. However, that repetition mirrors real-life confusion in modern relationships, which makes it believable rather than unrealistic. Also that party seen of dr. Blake in other doctor residence was little bored and uninterested portion.
Rest, Overall, The Resident Murder is gripping, unsettling, and emotionally layered. It keeps you questioning trust, love, ambition, and the thin line between vulnerability and danger. I finished the book feeling restless and thoughtful. Looking forward for the next part. Truly excited.
Wealth, privilege, and murder make a deadly combination in The Socialite Murder by Jessi Kroft.
This sequel had me hooked from the very first chapter. Set against the glamorous backdrop of the Hamptons, the story blends a compelling murder mystery with secrets, betrayal, and plenty of twists that kept me guessing until the end.
Dr Kylie Saunders once again proves why she's such a strong lead character. Smart, determined, and unable to walk away from a mystery, Kylie finds herself caught in another dangerous investigation when prominent socialites Celeste and Roland Greer are murdered. As she searches for answers, she uncovers hidden motives and long-buried secrets that make every suspect seem guilty.
One of my favourite parts of the book was seeing Kylie reunite with Dr Blake Weathers. Their chemistry adds an extra layer of tension to the story, and I found myself just as invested in their relationship as I was in the murder investigation. Stratton was also a standout character, bringing depth to the story and creating some of the most engaging interactions throughout the book.
The cast of suspects is wonderfully written. From the powerful Greer family to the people orbiting their wealthy social circle, everyone seems to be hiding something. I constantly questioned who could be trusted, and every new revelation made the mystery even more addictive.
Jessi Kroft does an excellent job building suspense while keeping the pacing fast and engaging. The twists felt earned, the clues were cleverly placed, and the ending delivered exactly the kind of payoff I was hoping for.
If you love murder mysteries packed with wealthy suspects, dark family secrets, strong characters, and unexpected twists, The Socialite Murder is a must-read.
A gripping and entertaining thriller that kept me turning pages late into the night. Kylie Saunders and Blake Weathers continue to be a fantastic duo, and I can't wait to see what happens next.
So um Jessi please tell me you plan on keeping this series going for a bit. I really these characters. And Kylie really is my fave character of this series. And I want her with Blake. This story is really intriguing, basically about these wonderful characters but at the same time not about them. I mean another murder that they all end up around is crazy how it went down. I feel there were so many secrets and yet clues all along right there for us. I just wish a few things turned out differently. Because I mean we got rid of one less evil person in the world. Ha ha
And least that's how I see this murder in this book. I really felt bad for all the people involved. They really were just trying to fix it and help all. But in the end it costed way more than just the murder I think. Also that ending?? Um I don't think that person should have gotten that. I hope this means that Blake and Kylie grew up more and understand what they want. I didn't like Kylie's boyfriend Danny at all. Something about him I suppose. I did love Stratton and Penelope their relationship is so good. But again yeah I get it and I don't want to give spoilers. Celeste what can I say about her? I felt bad for her but at the same time I didn't after awhile. Because she should have just said peace out. I hope in the third book we get more answers and maybe a Blake and Kylie at least being together. A book fan can hope right?? This murder I feel was justified and I'm sticking with it. I won't say more as to why. Who would want to kill a rich couple? What sre they really huding behind closed doors and does someone know more then they are telling? But sometimes people get what they get I guess. A week of fun and getting together turned into murder and solving a mystery. The new part scooby gang. Ha
Three years after the Resident murder, Kylie and Blake are back together for a getaway at Stratton's Hamptons family estate. With their own unfinished business and Kylie's new boyfriend in tow, they are thrust into the life of elites with extravagant parties and secrets kept well hidden.
Celeste, Stratton's neighbour with a strained relationship with her husband, appears fascinating to Kylie – with her limitless money, beautiful looks, and a powerful husband. This changes when the couple is found dead one morning. The vacation, intended as a break from their hectic lives, spirals into a disaster. Are they truly prepared for the secrets that will be revealed?
Review:
"The Socialite Murder" by Jessi Kroft, the second instalment in the Resident Thriller series, is a fast-paced domestic crime thriller that will keep you on your toes.
Seeing Kylie and Blake again was definitely a treat — their chemistry, their teamwork, and their energy gave me the satisfaction I had wanted after the first book. While Danny, as Kylie's boyfriend, added intrigue, Stratton and Penelope added warmth to the story.
I loved how the story highlighted the reality that women always suffer at the hands of men, who so often get away with everything—abuse, cheating, and abandoning their children.
The Hamptons setting, the socialite lifestyle, the gossip, and the secrets all added to the charm of the story. Everything was described so vividly and beautifully. The multiple POVs added to the suspicion around each character, and the character development was strong with old characters totally stealing the show again, while the new ones raised the stakes even higher.
Although I figured out a few twists, it didn't take away from the overall joy of the story. There was truly nothing else that I disliked about this one.
Overall, a must-read for fans of crime thrillers featuring suspicious characters, high-society crimes, and fast-paced murder investigations.
I dived into “The Socialite Murder” by Jessi Kroft thinking it’d be another glam-murder story... but Jessi gave me whiplash instead. Oh & believe me, I loved it. I was still recovering from the shocks of the first book but guess what!? I wanted more of them so, I read this one. (Glad, I did).
From page 1, this book doesn’t let you breathe. Glitter, gossip, champagne... and then blood. The way everyone went to celebrate vacations in the new hamptons made me think that there's gonna be a wedding or some intimate scenes but I was wrong (happily) because the author had other plans. The author mixes high society with dark secrets so well, you start doubting everyone. Perfect book for mystery lovers.
The murder mystery is sharp, but the real murder is how fame kills honesty.the author doesn’t just ask “who killed them?” She asks “who were they really, before the filters?”. One time, I'm feeling pity towards the characters and the next moment, I'm in shock & doubting everyone. Still, i wasn't able to figure out the real culprit & that's the beauty of this book.
I guessed the killer wrong 3 times (Shame on me). Every chapter ends with a twist that makes you go “wait, what?!” and the plot twist was mind blowing. Never saw it coming. I started questioning my guessing skills. The author writes socialites who smile for cameras but bleed in private. Too real. The author wrote characters who live for likes, die for secrets, and hide behind filters. The mystery is addictive. The truth is uncomfortable.
Every chapter = new suspect. Every page = new lie. I totally loved this book. Every bit of it is perfectly written. Tbh, I loved this one more than the first book because the storyline is unique & I haven't read any such book yet. Hatts off to the author.
The Socialite Murder (ARC) is an excellent sequel to The Resident Murder and a highly engaging psychological thriller that kept me guessing until the very end.
The story begins as a summer vacation trip among five friends, but the atmosphere quickly shifts when a neighbor is murdered. From there, the mystery unfolds through a well-executed dual timeline that gradually reveals secrets, motives, and connections I never saw coming.
What stood out most to me was how the novel goes beyond the murder investigation itself. It explores themes such as childhood trauma, manipulation, male dominance, chauvinism, marital affairs, and domestic abuse, adding depth and emotional weight to the story.
The characters were another highlight. I particularly enjoyed following Kylie and Blake's journey throughout the novel. At the same time, Roland was a character who consistently frustrated me, which speaks to how effectively he was written. I also found myself invested in characters like Stratton, Penelope, Celeste, and Danny, making the emotional moments even more impactful.
The twists were exceptionally well done. Just when I felt confident about where the story was heading, another revelation would completely change my perspective. The final reveal was genuinely surprising and one of the strongest aspects of the book.
Overall, The Socialite Murder is a gripping psychological thriller filled with suspense, complex relationships, dark secrets, and unexpected twists. Fans of character-driven mysteries and thrillers that keep readers guessing until the final pages will likely enjoy this one.
The socialite setting, all the secrets, the family drama, the multiple POVs... it was one of those times that felt like "just one chapter more".
I really enjoyed following Kylie again. One thing I like about her is once she decides something doesn't add up, she's not letting it go easily. The true crime fan🕵🏻♀️ in her always wants answers until everything finally starts making sense
At some point I realized I was supposed to be paying attention to the murder investigation but I was too busy rooting for Kylie and Blake.. hehe maybe that's just the romance reader in me😅 but their chemistry continues to be one of my favorite things about this series
I did end up figuring out the reveal before it happened but it didn't spoil the fun of the story. Looking back all the little details were right there and once everything clicked, it made perfect sense
I think I enjoyed the mystery in the first book a little more but I enjoyed spending time with these characters more in this one. Blake surprised me in this one and also, can someone pleasee give Stratton a break... he needs it, genuinely felt so bad for him🥲
My only complaint is the ENDING. Not because of the reveal but because everything after it felt a little rushed. I wish I could have seen a bit more of what happened later, especially with Penelope. And while I felt for Celeste and everything she'd been through, I couldn't help feeling like some of her actions were brushed past a little too quickly.
Overall, this book kept me hooked, made me care about the characters even more and now I am eagerly awaiting for the next book in the series🙂↕️
Three years after surviving the trauma of her friends murder, Dr Kylie Saunders is trying to move forward. A trip to the Hamptons with old friends, her new boyfriend, and the man who once saved her life, Blake Weathers, seems like the perfect escape. But when the glamorous neighbors are found dead after a tense confrontation, Kylie is pulled into another web of secrets and lies. In a world of wealth, status and carefully polished facades, everyone has something to hide... and someone will do anything to keep it buried.
Rich people, dark secrets, and murder in the Hamptons? Say less! This one pulled me in fast with its glamorous setting and tangled web of secrets and kept me invested until the very end! Kylie is still carrying the weight of her past and watching her get dragged into yet another deadly mystery made the tension feel so much sharper. The characters were messy in the best way, full of suspicion and motives. The atmosphere was one of my favorite parts. Luxurious, polished and full of unease. If you love twisty thrillers, elite social circles and murder mysteries, this one and Jessi's first book The Resident Murder are worth adding to your TBR!
Thank you so much to both Jessi Kroft and Literary Loft PR for this eARC! Can't wait to see what's next for our girl Kylie!
I am honestly so hooked on Jessi Kroft’s writing, and The Socialite Murder completely blew me away! Getting back to Kylie Saunders and Blake, who are now insanely busy medical attendants, seriously felt like catching up with old friends. Except, you know, these friends are constantly surrounded by pure chaos, deep secrets, and murder.
To try and escape their hectic schedules, they accept an invitation to spend some time taking a break in the gorgeous Hamptons. But what looks absolutely flawless and elite on the outside turns into a literal nightmare the second the couple next door is found dead. Before she knows it, Kylie is tangled up in this massive web of lies that she is just determined to solve. The way this is written is flawless; it's fast-paced, multi-POV, and full of that psychological suspense and slow-burn relationship tension that keeps you turning pages.
What I loved most is that it's not just a basic crime-solving book; it actually dives deep into trauma, grief, and how toxic relationships mess with your mental health. I kept trying to connect the dots and figure out who did it, but every single time I thought I had it, a new twist dropped and made me question everything! It's one of those addictive, unputdownable page-turners that will have you saying "just one more chapter" until it's suddenly 2:00 AM. If you love deep character growth, rich people drama, and mind-bending mystery twists, you have to pick this series up!
I've been looking forward to reading this book after reading the first in the series The Resident Murder and it did not disappoint. The twist at the end will leave you wondering what you could have possibly missed, because who the murderer ends up being I never saw coming. I fell in love with Kylie in the first book when she nearly lost her life and Blake the hunky neurosurgeon was the one to save her. Now Kylie, Blake and their friends all travel to the Hamptons for a little rest and relaxation. However, Kylie brings her new love interest Danny and things don't go as well as she'd hoped. Not only that, but the glamourous neighbor is married to a horrible man, and things are not what they seem. Kylie spots the problem right away, but when the police show up saying the neighbors are dead, everyone's stunned. Now in order to save their vacation Kylie and Blake set out to investigate what may have happened and who may be guilty. What they find out will rock them to their core. No one saw this coming.
It's all edge of your seat stuff with red herrings flying everywhere. I loved being kept in suspense until the very end and surprise is an understatement when the truth comes out. Now I can't wait until the next book to find out what these two get into next. I highly recommend this series. It's exciting, it's highly entertaining and just a joy to read. Happy Reading!
What happens when a pictureperfect life starts to crack and long-buried secrets begin to surface? The Socialite Murder is an engaging mystery that immediately drew me in with its glamorous Hamptons setting and intriguing cast of characters. What begins as a relaxing getaway for Kylie soon turns into something far more complicated, as hidden truths and suspicious behavior make it clear that no one is exactly who they seem to be.
I especially enjoyed how the author blended the murder mystery with the personal lives of the characters. The complicated dynamics between Kylie, Blake, and Danny added emotional depth to the story and made me care about their journeys beyond the investigation itself. Celeste and Roland's seemingly flawless marriage was another fascinating element, raising questions from the start and adding even more tension to the plot.
As the story unfolds, layers of deception slowly come to light, showing how wealth, status, and appearances can hide darker realities. The suspense builds steadily, with enough twists and revelations to keep me guessing throughout. My biggest takeaway from this book is that appearances can be deceiving, and the truth is often far more complicated than it seems. If you enjoy mysteries filled with secrets, family drama, complicated relationships, and unexpected twists, this is definitely worth picking up.
There are some thrillers that keep you entertained, and then there are the ones that make you look at every character with suspicion. This was definitely the second kind.
I went into this story thinking I knew what to expect, but it quickly proved me wrong. Every time I started trusting someone, a new detail would appear and make me question everything all over again. The mystery unfolds in a way that keeps the tension steadily building without ever feeling rushed.
One of my favorite things about this book was how unpredictable it felt. The characters all seemed to have their own secrets, and figuring out who was being honest became part of the fun. I was constantly making theories, only to change my mind a few chapters later.
The setting added so much to the overall experience. Behind the luxury and polished appearances, there was an unsettling feeling that something was about to go terribly wrong. That contrast made the story even more addictive.
By the time I reached the final chapters, I couldn't stop reading because I needed answers. The twists kept coming, and I loved not knowing who to trust until the very end.
If you're looking for a thriller packed with secrets, suspicion, and plenty of surprises, this one is well worth picking up.
This was my first book by this author and perhaps that is my mistake - maybe I should have read the 1st before this and then I would have felt a little more invested in the characters. I couldn’t get invested in them mostly because they all kind of read the same. They spoke in the same way, same cadence, and didn’t have much aside from physical appearances to really differentiate between them and have anyone stand out. The writing was almost clinical, and in some cases that can work! But this just made the story feel dull, boring, and incredibly repetitive. There were several instances where the same thing was said over and over by the same (and different!) characters in the same exact way. And when it wasn’t repetitive it was contradictory- leaving holes in some story lines that didn’t make sense. I also felt the twists were very predictable and some I saw from the get-go. And I understand, based on other review, that I’m definitely an outlier in this situation so take it with a grain of salt - but this just really fell flat for me, unfortunately 😕
"It’s just me and my husband here, and the homes are so well-insulated and soundproof, we wouldn’t even know if you were committing murder next door."
tropes 𐙚⋆.˚ ╰┈➤ getaway gone wrong ╰┈➤ murder mystery ╰┈➤ family drama ╰┈➤ romantic rivalry ╰┈➤ based in the hamptons
where do I even start?
book one in the series (also the author's debut) has been one of my favorite reads of the year so far, and I'd been eagerly waiting for this one to release. it was sooo worth the wait! being back with kylie and blake felt really good, although I really want things easier for them. Heaven knows they deserve a break from all these m*rders 😭💀
one thing in particular that I loved about this book is the psychiatry elements involved (and, of course, the jealousy 🤭). Those aspects in the book were handled immaculately, and I love that sm 🥺
eagerly waiting for book three, and hoping for a proper vacation for kylie and blake this time 💗
I recently discovered Jessi as an author; I loved that she is a physician and also writes medical psychological thrillers. I immediately read the first book in this series, “The Resident murder,” and I was hooked. I then read “The Socialite Murder.” Multiple POVs, strong character development, and short chapters with a strong suspense that pulls you in. This feels like a popcorn thriller in the best way. This story follows Kylie, Stanton Blake, Celeste, and Penelope. The story is about their weekend getaway trip to the Hamptons, which turns into a murder mystery when the neighbors next door are murdered. I enjoyed seeing Kylie’s story develop in this book and with the multiple POVs I didn’t know who to trust. Although I somewhat predicted the plot, I did not see the surprise twist at the end. Overall - Jessi’s writing has a way of making you want to binge the entire book. I cannot wait to read more from her and look forward to the next book in series!
In the sequel, you get to reconnect with familiar characters and delve deeper into their lives. This allows you to witness their growth, which helped me create more vivid mental images of them while reading. As you meet these characters again and explore multiple perspectives, be sure to notice the subtle clues scattered throughout. The beautifully written environment and atmosphere immerse you completely, making you feel present. I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys character depth, immersive and intriguing settings, and a gripping crime-solving narrative. It’s a fast-paced and dark read, packed with twists to keep you hooked.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
