Brooke
I moved to a small city to get away from my past, which leaves me hiding my body. The scars I carry, both inside and out, force me to hide my true self and stay under the radar. When I got a job as a mechanic for the Hell’s Reapers Motorcycle Club, I thought it would be a fresh start. Everything changed when I made eye contact with Bear.

Bear
After a month of being away from the Reapers to care for my mom, I was ready to return to normal club life. When I first saw Brooke, everything changed. By the time I found out what she was running from, it was too late.

Will Bear be able to save Brooke from her past? Will she ever feel safe around him?

Red Flags

I’ve read several books by this author and enjoyed them, so don’t let this spoil her for you.

The FMC is abused/tortured in graphic detail on page multiple times and her being set on fire is not just mentioned but also on page in a nightmare. These trigger warnings should be better outlined at the start. The behavior by MMC should also be listed as a trigger.

He is abusive, manipulative, controlling, forceful, explosive, and disrespectful to FMC through out the entire book.

He asks her out and she refuses so he grabs her wrist tightly and refuses to let go, even though she tries to get away from him, and yells/berates her until she relents and agrees to go out with him. He yells at her multiple times and grabbed her wrist like that multiple times as well. There’s one instance of him physically restraining her while she’s trying to get away. He says multiple things to her that are word for word verbatim to what her previous abuser told her. She purposely does and says, or doesn’t do and say things in order to placate him so he doesn’t have an explosive outburst. He refuses to let her get her own apartment and throws a fit and yells at her and tells her that she’s not even allowed to ask about having an apartment and that she should be grateful for everything he does for her. Even though she’s literally never asked him for anything.

He is the epitome of a red flag, and has all the makings to become a physical abuser because he is already abusing/controlling her in every other way.

This is not a romance, but a sad story about a DV victim who goes from one severe abuser to a less abusive partner.

I’m not sure how she can be attracted to him when he does some of the same things as her previous abuser or feel safe enough to overcome her trauma induced mutism. Her reactions do not line up or make sense with the reactions that a trauma victim would have to someone who is displaying abusive behavior towards them.

I absolutely despise the MMC. There were several things that his brothers said and did that I also found offensive so I doubt I will read any more books in this series.

Ms Raine always has a good story. Her plots and characters always have some good depth and make me want more.

These characters are not as developed as I would like. We know precious little about Bear as we don't have his POV very often in this story. Also, we have some backstory on Brooke but not a lot other than her abuse.

There are two factors keeping this from a higher review. 1) The characters' actions aren't consistent. Brooke has been horribly abused for years, but can snuggle in a bed within a week of meeting Bear? Not likely. 2) The editing is lacking. Aside from some grammatical errors, there are some serious continuity errors. She is on a bench in the park or a couch? She was unconscious for a week, but talks about how Bear has helped her through recovery. Does the motel like the MC as indicated early on, or not?

Correcting these issues and Ms. Raine has a great MC series in the making!

No just no. Brooke is a victim of domestic violence and abuse. She escapes her past only to end up with a guy who throws tantrums when he doesn't gets his way and thinks of punishing her because she made him look weak by fighting for something that she rightfully got angry about. No this isn't a love story, it's just a story of preying on a vulnerable girl and pestering and frightening her till she succumbs to Bear's wishes. He might not hit her or be physically abusive, but still his behaviour isn't one of love. Bear is selfish, and clearly prioritises his so called reputation and club before Brooke. A huge disappointment.

I have loved everything I've read by Everly Raine so far, even the most otp guys were still sweet with their girls but something about this whole book just put me off. Bear was not likeable at all, the way he acted and yelled at her and then apologized but didn't change and kind of acted the same way again. Like literally all of the other guys we sweet and nice.

Closer to 3.5 stars. I didn’t like when H was screaming at h when he wasn’t getting his point across. He was pushy and a dick to someone who visibly had demons to fight. Her description wasn’t exactly accurate. She must have marks from the flogging and cuts and so along with the burn marks. He just wanted her and wouldn’t take no .

these 1⭐️ reviews are cray cray

This was another incredible story. Her trigger warnings are there for a reason. Don’t beat up a story just because you don’t know your own triggers.
