Morally Black Weddings #2

Morally Black Elopement

Rate this book
One night in Vegas. One drunken vow. One surprise husband.

Ronan
They say eldest children are the responsible ones. Second kids are the forgotten ones.
And third kids? We’re the ones who just don’t care.
That’s me.

I’m the third Black sibling—the one with the sharp tongue, the bad habits, and exactly zero interest in playing by the rules.
Until my oldest brother drops out of the running for CEO of Blackguard Equity.
Now I’m suddenly thinking about legacies… and how mine might look with a crown on top.

One the morning after a wild night in Vegas, I roll over and find a wedding band on my finger… and a gorgeous, furious stranger in my bed.

Delaney Fisher. Seattle designer. All sharp lines, cool eyes, and no time for men like me.
Which is a shame, because I’m her new husband.

I could get it annulled.
Or I could offer her a stay married to me, play the part of my perfect wife while I make my move for CEO, and I’ll pay her enough to save her struggling business.

She says yes. I say we’re going to have fun.
The only thing I don’t say? That I might just want to keep her for good.

Delaney
I don’t drink. I don’t date.
And I definitely don’t spontaneously marry men like Ronan Black—a smooth-talking billionaire playboy with trouble written all over his chiseled face. But one night in Vegas turns into a lifetime of consequences when I wake up in his bed… and apparently in his life.

He offers me money. I should say no.
But my business is on the brink, and his plan could keep me afloat. Four months of fake wedded bliss. Four months of pretending to be Mrs. Ronan Black.

It’s a bad idea. The worst.
So why am I letting him charm me into forgetting that? Why am I starting to think this ridiculous marriage could actually work?

Because Ronan might be morally gray, but he’s also becoming the one man I want in my corner.
The question is—when it counts, will he choose me… or himself?

Great Tropes, Good Romance, Bad Editing

I went into this story thinking the tropes has my name written all over them. I mean woke up married, marriage of convenience, bad boy/good girl, and opposites attract with a morally gray hero meets a no-nonsense heroine? You had me with that woke up married situation. This one definitely had things working in its favor and I liked it, but I can’t say that I loved it.

This story follows Delaney “Laney” Fisher, a cardigan wearing good girl who is dealing with a garbage ex, a heart condition, a totally clocked out dad, and her late mom’s failing business. Then we have Ronan Black, the third son, the jester, the screw up and “the fixer” of his family’s less than upstanding business, Blackguard Holding. He was a bad boy, and dude had some vices that he used to cope with his “jobs” and family. To be honest, I did not like Ronan at first. He started off as this crude, chaos agent and not in a good way. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I get it. His family situation is pretty toxic and while I know that was supposed to explain a lot of it, it still took me a hot minute to get past it.

BUT… once the story got moving, Ronan definitely grew on me. It turns out that he has this secret competence and intelligence, and Laney genuinely makes him want to be a better man. You can’t help but fall for him right along with Laney as he tries to respect her wishes and lets his secret soft side show. Together, they are exactly the change that the other needs. Watching them actually fall in love and seeing Ronan figure out what real love even looks like made for a really good story. Plus, he delivers plenty of those possessive “my wife” moments that seem to be my kryptonite. 🫠

The rub though is the editing because oof. The editing errors were a massive distraction for me. There were so many wrong words, like using because instead of became, that instead of than, or by instead of bye, along with a bunch of missing words and general detail discrepancies. On top of that, there was the predictability. I could see each part of that conflict coming from a mile away.

Overall, this landed at 3 stars for me. I had a good time with parts of it, but the editing issues, predictability, and Ronan’s rough start kept me from rating this one any higher. If those things don’t bother you, it’s still a pretty fun choice for marriage of convenience fans.

Got this one bc of an intriguing but annoyingly difficult to read FB ad with a fun and spicy lil marital contract that I just had to know more about... but unfortunately other than that contract, not a lot of fun was had.

I've never read a romance novel where the MCs spend so little time together. 65% in and the majority has been the MC dealing w his family and mafia ish. And that's not very enjoyable bc the mafia plot is too involved and the writing feels all over the place. Several times while the author was dumping names and places and background, I wanted to shake her and say, "Can you FOCUS?!"

It felt like a waste of two likable promising characters. He gives good self loathing and has interesting personality traits/quirks and she gives good damsel with a fascinating medical condition. I would have enjoyed seeing the two of them navigate their issues together but instead, the author had them go through them separately while OBSESSING about the other person.

When the word Love comes up and they start expressing these intense feelings, it was like WHEN did they fall in love!? I wouldn't even call it instalove, the author just forgot to include it. They had barely spoken to each other outside of a few "fake dating" scenarios and some spicy time - I reached my limit and DNF'd at 67%.

My favorite so far in the series ❤️

I just fell in love with Ronan and Laney. Book two in the Morally Black series. Ronan is son number two, next in line to continue the family business but little does he know his life is about to change.

Laney, I love the fact she's not a weak character even with her condition. She gives as good as she gets, she's got fire. Together they are a beautiful couple and discover great love.

On another note Nicole, you made me dislike Owen so much during book 1 and now I like him just a little hahaha, can't wait for the next one. But Ronan, forever in my heart.

This was my 2nd time reading from this author, and just like the first book, this one was also an okay read for me. I gave both books 3/5 stars because while the writing was easy enough to get through, nothing really stood out to me.

The storyline was fine, but it felt a bit too long at times and honestly kinda unrealistic. I liked some moments between Ronan and Delaney, but overall I just never got fully invested in their story.

In the end, it was simply an okay read for me. Not bad, but not super interesting or memorable either.

Thank you Wildfire Marketing Solutions and Nicole French for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Finally! The next Morally Black installment is here and there’s a lot to unpack. What started off as a 5 star book slowly morphed into being 4 stars, like the first one. Somewhere between Ronan having an unhealthy dependability, and obsession with Laney it lost me for a little bit which is why I couldn’t continue on giving this 5 stars. His need for her and inability to let her be or give her space bothered me. Then there was his thoughts messing with him producing mixed signals that he definitely didn’t feel. His heart and mind were telling him two things. His mind saying to not let it get more serious and his heart making him emotional from that. He was consistently battling between telling Laney the truth or to keep lying about specific things. Ultimately the lies kept piling up which was leaving him conflicted. There was parts of him that gave himself to Laney and then the other parts, let’s call them his guilty conscience that overpowered those due to his fear that she would leave and be done with him, becoming his biggest vulnerability, taking place next to the part of him that wanted to be taken seriously and be accepted. He didn’t want to show this, so he manifested those fears and vulnerability into obsession and dependability which wound up being his weakness anyway. Don’t get me wrong, at first I thought it was endearing how much he let his thoughts go to her and how much he felt the need to see her but when his thoughts are constantly on her and he keeps giving mixed signals, not talking about what’s on his mind and expressing feelings, you have to wonder what he’s doing and what’s going on. Ronan definitely redeemed himself from the last book. It explains a lot about his persona and why he is the way he is. I would say that his dickish comments and ability to turn everything into a joke covered up how uncomfortable he felt in his skin, his expectations from the family and continuously hiding himself from the world. He didn’t want anyone to know how he really was, which ends up being a book lover, passion for the classics and Greek mythology. He also was kind of awkward too which made me see that deep down he is a person who has feelings and that he isn’t happy with what he’s doing but feels a sense of loyalty to his family and what they need him for. Here’s where the 4 rating started as well as the passion he expressed to Laney and how he was a completely different person around her. I was worried about how Nicole would paint Ronan in a favorable light, especially since I didn’t like him at all in the first book, either of his family to be honest. After reading this book though, I’m happy I got to see behind the curtain of who Ronan Black is. While his vulnerability played with my heartstrings, I also enjoy how Nicole made him an entirely different person in this book. Gone was his digs and jabs at the family which I now see why he did that. He still had a few comments and actions here and there but nothing like in the first book. This one softened him up exponentially and I appreciated that. I think he actually fell harder for Laney than was depicted here. It seemed he had this undeniable need to please and make her feel good, both physically and mentally. He was consumed by her, so much so that at times it felt suffocating which is what I touched on at the beginning of the review. I feel like Laney was an innocent bystander in this. Sure she felt drawn to him and she didn’t deny the connection and she was attracted to him. I just felt like she wasn’t unhinged about it. Ronan felt unhinged. You saw it in his mood swings, saw it in his demeanor. He would get defensive if someone even mentioned Laney as his wife or even talking about her innocently. He couldn’t help but think there was a motive with everyone each time she was mentioned. It wasn’t healthy and felt dangerous. Then you saw the change in him in general. As the book progresses Ronan slowly loses his need to have control on everything, even if he displays it with humor and sarcasm. His hair actually is the metaphor for this. I picked up on this with bits and pieces in the story but it was enough to figure out he was changing. When he was with Laney and they were captured in a passionate moment, kissing, having sex, just hanging out at this hidden home he would leave his hair curly and unkempt to display his growing loss of control in his feelings for Laney but also because she liked it that way. Then in the outside world he would gel it and keep it together to make him appear in control then slowly loosen them up as a way of dispelling the need to control things and to be himself. Maybe I’m reaching but that’s what I got from that since it was a returning topic for Laney. Overall, it made me have empathy for Ronan and any ill things I felt about him vanished in this story. He was just as, if not more emotional than his brother and when he falls apart after nearly losing Laney and the yearning he has for her it hits me in my heartstrings even though sometimes it was too much. Owen will be a harder one to crack and while I still was uneasy about him in this book, he at least got put on my good side and sort of redeemed himself. I’m not fully there with him yet, but hopefully his story will change my mind about him like this one did for me about Ronan.

When Ronan wakes up in Vegas to find he's now married, it presents an answer to the new wrinkle his brother leaving the company presents. And then there's the little matter of Ronan being absolutely fascinated by Delaney, his new wife. Will she agree to keep their marriage going? Will the black (wink) part of his world turn her away from him?

All Delaney wanted was to enjoy a night in Vegas with her bestie while they celebrated her upcoming wedding. What she got was...married. She still can't remember it, but her new husband is whew! When he suggests they stay married, give it a go, she has to make a decision. Stay married, form a bond, or go their separate ways, never knowing what could have been.

Ronan is the youngest of the Blacks, the fixer, made that way by their awful father. I can't even imagine how he even developed his sense of humor considering all the awful things his family put him through, made him do. But of course, those awful things had taken their toll on his soul. His accidental wife turned wife of convenience turned out to be the soulmate he deserved, bringing the light and the warmth he needed, and becoming his rock. I love that Ronan was equally her rock, her soulmate. These Black brothers are intense alphas, Ronan is one of a different sort, but equally damaged by their father, and healed by the love of his life. Owen's up next, and I really can't wait.

French delivers a steamy marriage of convenience romance in Morally Black ElopementWhat happens in Vegas ended up changing the lives of two unlikely individuals in the second book in the Morally Black Series. A definite must-read!

What would have been a fun bachelorette weekend in Vegas for Laney Fisher and her friends ended becoming so much more the minute she wakes up in an unfamiliar hotel room with a wedding ring on her finger. The worse part is that Laney has no recollection how she got married to the sexy and charming stranger. She’s always been the responsible one of the group and does’t spontaneously marry men she randomly meets at bars. But when the smooth-talking stranger kissed her, Laney decided to give in if only for one night. Little did she know that marrying a Black would come with a prize. There is a lot on the line for Laney back home in Seattle, between saving her mother’s fashion business and her own health struggles.

Ronan Black is the complete opposite of her, he is wealthy beyond belief and has a way of getting his way that makes her feel uneasy. Yet, underneath his custom-made suits that Laney sees the real Ronan and how book smart he really is. His love for Greek classics and his humor is what seals the deal for her when he asks her to give their marriage a chance. All while giving her a hefty sum of money in the process and the promise of saving her business after their six month trail. There is a lot on the line, including losing her heart in the process. If there is something that Laney is absolutely positive of is that once Ronan makes up his mind, there is no way to stop him from claiming what is his and he vows to keep her for himself.

I absolutely loved reading Morally Black Elopement! From the intriguing synopsis to the eye-catching cover, this opposites attract romance will have hooked from beginning to end. Ronan Black has always been the fixer of the family, the Blacks command Blackguard Holdings with his dad as the head of the family. There are standards that need to be met to keep appearances among the Boston elite. That is until his oldest brother made the choice to leave the family business. Leaving no choice but to make Ronan his successor. But there is a catch and in order for Ronan to become CEO, he has to marry first. Show the board that he is serious about the company and that he can be a family man.

Marrying in Vegas was not planned, his connection with Laney is real and he can’t seem to stop thinking about her. They agreed to get a divorce first, but he has no intention of letting her go. But omitting the real reason why he needs her is what could end up damaging their chance at a real relationship if he doesn’t tell her the truth. I loved Laney and Ronan together, their connection is magnetic and their love for Greek classics brings them closer. She understands his humor all while seeing the real Ronan. The ending was sweet, I can’t wait to read the next books in the series! I would highly recommend checking out this book as well as any others by the author. You will not regret it! :)

WOW... Just WOW!
I am literally SPEECHLESS 😮‍💨
Nicole, what have you done to me??!?
It has honestly been such a long time since a book has made me question how much I value sleep, instead burning page after page to find out what happens next. This book was highly addictive and I just COULD NOT get enough! 🔥

Ronan Black is the "fixer" in the family, a Jester of sorts - a mask he wears for others. When his eldest brother Brendan forfeits his CEO position in exchange for a quieter life with Simone, he names Ronan as his successor.

Whilst Ronan is in Vegas to help fix some "family matters", he sees Laney - a goddess amongst men - and is automatically captivated by her. Laney is on a bachelorette party for her bestie in Vegas. On the last night, she reluctantly agrees to let her hair down. Go big or go home right? Except she catches the eye of a mysterious stranger and their encounter is nothing like she's felt before.

However, Laney wakes up the next morning in strange hotel room, with no recollection of the previous night. If finding a wedding band on her finger wasn't bad enough, her new husband is Ronan Black - the very same man she hit it off with at the club. Whilst they both agree last night should have never happened, their marriage also couldn't have come at a better time. If Ronan wants the CEO position at his family's company, he needs to stay married. Laney wants an nothing more than an annulment, until Ronan proposes a tempting deal that may save her struggling business after all.

Honestly, this book was just so, so beautifully written. I loved the Greek Mythology references between Ronan and Laney, and how Ronan was surprisingly a closeted geek. Their meet cute was just so sweet, especially how Ro was taken aback by Laney. Not only does she understand Ro refering her to Ariadne (and him, Dionysus), he also plays down the fact he too fell in love with Laney at first sight 💗

Ro is such a morally grey MMC who is truly underestimated and misunderstood, due to his aloof personality. He may be rich, powerful and emotionally guarded, but when it came to his wife, Laney, that man was powerless against her. We got to see so many vunerable layers of Ro, and how he could trust Laney to be the person he confided in. The more you read, the more you can't help but fall for Ro even more.

Laney is such a selfless and hardworking person, who has sacrificed so much for others and her family. She also has a heart condition which could easily be treated, but instead uses any money she has to pump it back into her late mom's business. I adored the way in which she could hold her own against Ro, and not succumb to his charms alone.

Ro and Laney could not be more different, but I loved how secretly they were more alike than not. Ro was such a devoted husband, who put Laney first, always -even if it made him question what he truly wanted from life. I loved his possessive and protectiveness for Laney, as well as his caring side which absolutely made me swoon 😍 And their sizzling chemistry?! It was seriously unmatched. Adore, adore, adore ❤️

I honestly can't wait for Owen's book next. If anything, it's going to be one heck of a redemption arc from him 🤭

Thank you so much to Nicole and Wildfire Marketing for giving me the opportunity to read this book in advance. All thoughts and opinions are my own 🫶🏼

First of all, I’d like to say thanks to the author for allowing me to be part of the ARC group.

I enjoyed the book and the plot was as Gen Z would say “Chef’s kiss”.

The start really was engaging, it has you wondering how did Laney (MF) get herself into this mess 😶. All the events in the book made sense and connected full circle to bring the book together at the end. Loved the potential that the book offered BUT…. There were many things I think took away from its potential.

I really was not a fan of Laney’s panic attacks/breathing exercises, felt like she took long to carry on with the next scene, though I do understand that the episodes were critical to establish her heart condition. But after her first two episodes after finding out she is married, it felt over used. Her lack of understanding the urgency that she needed a medical procedure was maddening 🤦🏻‍♀️. Her getting it done was more important to EVERYONE else, but her.

Ronan’s internal turmoil was draining to read. Some of his emotions made sense but others just seemed unnecessary. For example, he kept stressing about feeling horrible for lying to Laney about the marriage, when in fact he didn’t really lie. He just didn’t elaborate on why he wanted to give the marriage a chance. He kept referring to it as a fake marriage, when in fact he had agreed to give it a chance, therefore he was not lying to her, it was a real marriage. His personality is self destructive.

I did not like Laney’s father. I felt like she should have had a stronger reaction to her father selling her mother’s business without consulting her 🤦🏻‍♀️. It made zero sense that she has NO REACTION and forgave him. He dipped out of her life then makes an appearance and sells her mom’s legacy. Her forgiving her father was so tranquil compared to her problem with Ronan.

Derek (Laney’s ex) is brought back near the end, but really had no reason to be brought back, other than to add more drama and book length. When he is first introduced at Megan’s rehearsal dinner it was a hilarious scene when Ronan finally shows up. But prior to him showing up, the scene did drag on at first. There was too much unnecessary dialogue between Derek and Laney then Megan.

I received the kindle version, maybe about a week before the book release. I’m not sure if I got a pre edited version, but there were many grammar errors, missing and extra words in sentences, and a name error. Ronan is called ROMAN in chapter 33 😶. In ch 2 one dialogue is “water the for the lady” clearly there was an extra “the”. I highlighted 23 errors not including some I was too lazy to mark. I’ll admit I almost moves this book to my “Did Not Finish” shelf because of this. But I really did love the plot and wanted to know how the book ended.

I gave it 3 stars because overall I did like the plot and the story the author tried to deliver did have potential and I also understand every reader is different and have different preferences as well as authors having different writing styles.

MORALLY BLACK ELOPEMENT is the second instalment in Nicole French’s contemporary, adult MORALLY BLACK WEDDINGS erotic, romance series focusing on therich and powerful Black Family. This is interim CEO of Blackguard Holdings Ronan Black, and Delaney ‘Laney’ Fisher’s story line. MORALLY BLACK ELOPEMENT can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion as there is an ongoing premise throughout.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Ronan and Laney) MORALLY BLACK ELOPEMENT follows a bachelorette party in Las Vegas wherein Laney wakes up married to the interim CEO of Blackguard Holdings Ronan Black but all is not as it appears to be-like his brother Brendon who walked away from the family business, Ronan needs a suitable wife, and Laney finds herself facing down a family of vipers, losing herself and everything in the process.

The world building is Mafia adjacent, focusing on the building relationship that is predicated upon a secret and a lie. Ronan does not want control of Blackguard Holdings but when his brother Brendon walked away, Ronan became heir by default when the next in line, refused to take control. Meanwhile, Laney is struggle with her family owned business, and a health issue of which she can no longer afford but the Black family are determined to destroy anyone they see as not good enough, and Laney finds herself in the direct line of fire.

The relationship between Laney and Ronan begins as drunk Vegas wedding in which neither one remembers what happened or how. Ronan is determined to remain married to our story line heroine, and in doing so, forces his family to take aim at our story line couple but when secrets are revealed, Laney discovers the life into which she agreed is nothing like the life Ronan had offered. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative.

Ronan’s siblings Brendon and his wife Simone, Owen and Shae; their controlling and manipulative father Naill Black; friend Liam Kelly; driver and security former US Navy SEAL Brady ‘Mac’ MacNamara, as well as the introduction of Laney’s father Jan Fisher, and her friend Megan.

MORALLY BLACK ELOPEMENT is a story of secrets and life, power and control, betrayal and dysfunction family relationships, forgiveness and love. The character driven premise is edgy, dramatic and sensational; the romance is passionate ; the characters determined, dynamic, and energetic.

Morally Black Elopement is the second interconnected Standalone book from author Nicole French Morally Black Weddings series.
This particular story has us following the youngest brother/third sibling Ronan Black and the FMC Delaney ‘Laney/Ari’ Harmonia Fisher in a Marriage of Convenience, Romantic Suspense, Billionaire, Contemporary Romance, told through their dual perspectives.

Seeing the first line of the blurb mentioning drunken surprise marriage in Vegas, there was no doubt in my mind this was something I most definitely was planning to check out. Especially since it tends to make for a fun and entertaining read.

Watching the way author Nicole showcased the journey of Ronan and Laney’s relationship develop and grow was interesting to see.
Considering how it all started for the two, it was obvious their journey was going to be anything but a smooth ride. More so from what was learnt of Ronan, his life with his family and their business along the way, involving secrets, lies and deceit that had him keeping Laney in the dark from it all.

Yet with that said, it was clear the two were meant to be together, seeing as through the progression of their journey, we come to learn and see how the two managed to change one another for the better, as well as for each other, given who they were as people and where they stood in life prior to meeting and becoming apart of one another’s lives.
All the while being what the other needed, despite the two not knowing or realising at first, since in Laney’s case, their marriage brought her out of her shell and to live outside of the bubble she never seemed to step out of. While in Ronan’s case, him realising what he wants in life and to finally come out from under his father’s thumb and family name.

It should be known that although Ronan and Laney’s relationship played a major role in the narrative’s storytelling, there was a lot more to be told.
From the subplot that revolved around Ronan’s families Blackguard Holding business to the ongoing storyline that began in eldest brother/sibling Brendan Black and Simone’s book Morally Black Betrothal.
Given the drama it led to suspense with some mysteries from the unknown that involved other family and friends as secondary characters, including some from past stories and some of who will have future stories to come.
As well as the subplot revolving around Laney’s life that included her family, friends and Ex-Boyfriend, which also paved the way for drama.

The story did hit in waves, having me exciting, intrigued and captured at times. While at other times it felt slow, prolonged from feeling drawn out, ultimately causing my attention to wane. Resulting in taking longer than usual for me to finish the book.

Although the story may have had a lot to say, IMO it could’ve done with being shortened a little bit since it did feel a little too unnecessarily long which is what caused my attention to wane unfortunately.

All in all, despite my issues Morally Black Elopement by Nicole French did make for a good read overall. Though mostly due to following the journey of Ronan and Laney’s relationship, that was in all honesty what kept me reading on.

A dark, addictive, emotional romance about choosing love over legacy, this second book in the series just confirmed what I already suspected: there’s a pattern in this family, and I’m loving every second of it. Each Black brother is shaped by the same toxic empire, yet each one finds a way to break free when love finally gives them something worth fighting for. And this time, it’s Ronan’s turn.

Ronan Black has always been the fixer, the one who cleans up the darkest messes for the family. He’s sharp, secretive, and carries more weight on his shoulders than anyone realizes. But underneath all that darkness, there’s a spark of goodness he’s been trying to protect. And when he meets Delaney—brilliant, kind, book‑loving Delaney—that spark turns into something bright and impossible to ignore.

Their connection is instant, chaotic, and completely unexpected. What starts as a wild night in Vegas turns into something real, something tender, something that makes Ronan question the life he’s been forced to live. I loved how simple their bond felt, even with all the complications around them. They talk, they share their love for the Classics, they build a quiet little world together that feels safe and warm. You can feel Ronan slowly realizing he wants a different life, one where he’s not drowning in secrets.

The family drama is intense, as always. The Black family is a battlefield—manipulation, rivalry, old wounds, and a father who pits his sons against each other like it’s a sport. But the author balances all that darkness with moments of softness, humor, and hope. Watching Ronan try to hold on to Delaney while the family machine tries to pull him back in kept me completely hooked.

What I loved most is how clearly the book shows Ronan’s heart waking up. He starts wanting dinners at home, quiet nights, shared poems, and a future that isn’t built on fear. Delaney brings out the best in him, and he sees her fully—her strength, her sacrifices, her dreams. Their love feels earned, steady, and deeply emotional.

This story has everything I enjoy: a morally gray hero trying to be worthy, a heroine with a gentle but unbreakable spirit, a toxic family empire, and a romance that feels like a lifeline. I was invested from start to finish, and I can’t wait to see what happens with the next Black brother.

A gripping, emotional, beautifully written romance.

Finally, we get Ronan’s story.
Ronan was quite a conundrum to me in the Morally Black Betrothal. You just knew there was something more about him that he kept hiding.
Ronan is the new heir apparent to the Black Corporation, and he is determined to take the helm because it is what he always wanted, right? Everyone thinks he is just a jokester and the thug of the family. Cleaning up their indiscretions and fixing problems for the family by any means necessary. But Ronan is not at all what they see. Deep down he hides who he really is but once he meets Delaney, he leans into their connection, and the real Ronan comes through begging to be his true self.
Delaney Fisher is a scholar who is dealing with the loss of her mother, the distance of her father along with trying to keep her mother’s store from failing. During a wild bachelorette weekend in Vegas, she decides to let go of her troubles and enjoy herself. There she meets Ronan and lets her sexy and wild side out. The connection is instant, intense, and so unexpected for both. This wild night begins an emotional journey that changes both of their lives.
There is the usual ugly family drama with Ronan’s father and siblings, but with that drama we are given more insights into storylines along with information on previous characters who will be given more focus.
I love the connection between Ronan and Laney. They have so much in common and watching them fall in love was beautiful. Nicole did an excellent job with the chemistry between these two. Their connection was passionate and to watch Ronan start to believe in himself and fall for his “Ari” was amazing.
The only issue I had was with the editing. It was distracting and completely avoidable. I can manage grammar issues but when the details about the characters and story line are wrong that is worrisome. I do love her writing and the way she gets you to connect with her characters and fall into the story, but I had to go back and recheck what I read to make sure I was following the right person and/or information. Also, I understand the underlying plot to this series, but I really hope Nicole finds a way to change it up a bit.
This book is a fun and emotional read and very character driven. You will enjoy it but keep in mind the above issues. Nicole is an author I love, and I am excited about what’s next.

As we step back into Nicole French’s Morally Black Weddings series with the second book, Black Elopement, readers are once again swept away in a romance that is impossible to put down — and honestly, who knew weddings could be this chaotic?

From the very first page, Black Elopement delivers a deliciously addictive “wake up in Las Vegas married to a stranger” setup. It’s a trope romance readers may know well, but Nicole French gives it a fresh spark that makes it feel completely its own. Delaney is the last woman you’d expect to end up in this situation — she doesn’t drink, she doesn’t take risks, and waking up married to a confident, filthy-rich stranger is absolutely not her style.

Then there’s Ronan.

Rich, powerful, frustratingly self-assured, and suddenly finding himself in exactly the same predicament, Ronan quickly realises this accidental marriage might actually solve all of his problems. He needs a wife to help secure his position as CEO, while Delaney desperately needs help saving her failing business. A marriage built on convenience and mutual benefit? What could possibly go wrong?

Of course, the answer is everything.

Because the chemistry between Ronan and Delaney absolutely sizzles from the start, and there is no way that tension is staying buried for long. What begins as an arrangement slowly turns into something far more dangerous as emotions creep in, walls begin to fall, and Ronan’s protective, swoon-worthy side starts to emerge. And honestly? Once that side of him appears, Delaney never really stands a chance.

Nicole French balances sharp banter, emotional vulnerability, tension-filled romance, and addictive chemistry perfectly, creating a story that keeps you hooked from beginning to end. Black Elopement delivers everything you want from a marriage-of-convenience romance while still feeling fresh, emotional, and utterly consuming.

A fantastic second book in the Morally Black Weddings series and another couldn’t-put-it-down romance from Nicole French.

Delaney Fisher wakes up after a night of bachelorette shenanigans for her best friend, and to her surprise, she can't remember what happened the night before. All she knows is she is naked, in a strange hotel room, with a gold ring on her finger. Ronan Black is the enforcer of the Black family, and he is known for his playboy ways. However, once Ronan finds out that he is married to Laney, all bets are off. Ronan immediately dives into their marriage, wanting to see if they can make it work by any means necessary. Little does Ronan know that Laney has a heart condition that prevents her from living her life to the fullest extent. Can Ronan and Laney work through their differences and their marriage in order to live happily ever after?

LET ME TELL YOU the spice was definitely spicing. The couch scene? Perfection. Absolute perfection. "Oh god." "Nope. Just your husband." 🥵

Ronan had me CACKLING throughout this entire book. I loved absolutely all of his humor and I related to every single thing he said (because I use humor the same way). Nicole French had me hooked from the prologue of this book, and I devoured it in less than 48 hours. I simply could not put it down, and I CANNOT wait for the next book in this series because there are several people it could be about, and I need it in my life YESTERDAY!

As always, check your trigger warnings before diving in.

Until the next review...🩵 Heather

I was hooked on Morally Black Elopement by Nicole French almost immediately. This book has the perfect mix of emotional tension, messy relationship dynamics, obsession, and chemistry that makes dark romance so addictive. Every chapter pulled me deeper into Ronan and Laney’s complicated relationship, and I honestly never wanted to put it down.

Ronan was such a compelling morally gray hero. He’s powerful, possessive, emotionally guarded, and completely used to being in control, but the deeper the story goes, the more layers you see underneath that exterior. His connection with Laney feels intense almost immediately and watching him struggle between protecting himself emotionally and giving in to his feelings created so much tension throughout the story. Even during his darker moments, there was still an emotional depth to him that kept me invested.

Laney brought so much strength and heart to the story. I loved that she didn’t simply get swept away by Ronan’s world without questioning things or protecting herself emotionally. She’s independent, emotional, and strong-willed, which made the push-and-pull between them even more entertaining to read. Her chemistry with Ronan was undeniable, but what made their relationship stand out was the emotional vulnerability slowly developing underneath all the chaos and tension.

One of my favorite things about the book was how well Nicole French balanced the darker romance themes with genuine emotional connection. The relationship between Ronan and Laney is messy, passionate, and emotionally complicated, but it never felt shallow. Every confrontation, emotional moment, and vulnerable scene added more depth to their story and kept me fully invested in seeing how everything would unfold.

Overall, this was such an emotionally intense and addictive read that completely delivered on the dark romance atmosphere. Ronan and Laney’s story was chaotic, passionate, and impossible not to become invested in from beginning to end.

Addictive & Intriguing

I'm loving Nicole French's Morally Black Weddings series and we're only two books in. MORALLY BLACK ELOPEMENT was an addictive read which I couldn't put down. Nicole has written a thoroughly intriguing story with characters I fell hard for and couldn't get enough of.

Vegas, city of drunken spontaneous weddings, and for Ronan Black and Delaney Fisher it was a wedding which would change their lives.

Ronan Black, enforcer of the Black family, playboy, carefree, and thoroughly misunderstood. Oh how I loved this man, his knowledge of the classics, his touch her and die mentality, his huge caring heart, and his swoonworthy use of "my wife" all melted my heart.

Laney Fisher wasn't a party girl, she was a hard worker, independent, and a person who always put herself before others. She had a heart problem which she was afraid of doing anything about. She was also a lover of the classics.

Even though Laney and Ronan were from different worlds they were perfect for each other. Laney expected an annulment, but when Ronan suggests they continue their marriage she's wary but agrees. She has no idea what she's getting into but Ronan is so protective of her, he's tender and caring, and sets her desires on fire. Falling in love was never considered, yet the more time they spent together it was inevitable. what could possibly go wrong for them?

MORALLY BLACK ELOPEMENT was a fabulous read. The passion, emotions, famiy drama, betrayal, and forgiveness made this book unputdownable. Cole's story is up next in Morally Black Proposal, and I can't wait. This series cannot be missed.

This book was such a crazy, emotional, addictive ride and I loved every second of it.
Laney heads to Vegas for her best friend’s bachelorette party expecting one carefree night to let loose but instead she wakes up married to Ronan Black — a man who looks like a Greek god brought to life.

Their chemistry was instant and honestly, the Greek mythology banter between them was one of my favorite parts of the entire book. It was playful, flirty, clever and felt like their own form of foreplay.

Ronan - “You really are a goddess, you know that?” Laney - “If I am, I’m your goddess.” Oh my gods this made me swoon! 🫠

What starts as a drunken Vegas marriage quickly becomes something much deeper as Ronan suddenly finds himself suddenly needing a wife. He then has to convince Laney not to rush into an annulment even if he isn’t completely honest with her.

Watching Ronan’s growth throughout the story was everything. He starts off as this fun, charming Vegas playboy who is often consumed by his demons but chapter by chapter he becomes a man completely devoted to Laney. A man who wants to be worthy of her. A man who dares to believe in fate.

Laney’s heart condition added such an emotional layer to the story. Every time Ronan would place his hand against her sternum and ask, “Is this okay?” my heart melted a little more. He cared for her in such tender, quiet ways even while lying to himself about how deeply he actually loved her.

I always enjoy a good confrontation between a cheating ex and his with Laneys ex was deeply satisfying.

The story also had so many little details that made it impossible not to love like Ronan’s house that is lined with thousands of books that gave full Beast’s castle energy.

But underneath the romance there was also so much pain — especially involving Ronan, his brothers and their absolutely awful father.

This book had romance, chaos, heartbreak, devotion, family drama, and two characters who burned so brightly together even when things got messy. I genuinely could not put it down.

Everyone! I could not put this book down! Obsessed. I feel like the best part about reading is how many genres that are available to all of us. As readers, we’re are spoiled and I love it! Every book is so different and so easy to become infatuated. Which is exactly what this book did. I was instantly captivated by the two main characters, Laney & Ronan.

Laney is fantastic, the heartbreak and struggle this girl had gone/goes through where it made her became a shell. She needed that moment, person, just anything to jumpstart her again and she 💯 found that when she met Ronan. Which I love that name.

Ronan is the best. The youngest brother of a billionaire family, who they consider to be the Jester of them all. But, the Jester is just the mask he wears because he is aching to be set free just like Laney, he just didn’t realize it until she blew up his whole life(in a positive way). They needed each other to be themselves, to choose for themselves for once.

This book started pretty quick off the bat with a “Woke up married in Vegas” trope. Hilarious, but it right away let the story play out effortlessly. I don’t give spoilers cause that’s evil 😈. But would highly recommend this book! Can’t wait to read the next one!

Also, thank you to Nicole French for adding me to this ARC team. Such an amazing opportunity and being able to discuss back and forth with you as I was reading this book was an incredible experience. This lady knows what she is doing!

This was a great read about taking a chance on love with a stranger and an unexpected wedding that could be the answer that you are looking for to solve all your problems.

This was the first book I have read in the series and I must say that I really did enjoy it. It definitely might be worth going back to the first book in the series and seeing how things ended up that way they did for Ronan Black.

Ronan comes from a powerful family where he knows his role but everything changes when his brother refuses to take on the position of CEO in the family run Blackguard Equity and now Ronan is in the running. But Ronan must demonstrate that he has settled down and his previous role
within the company may come back to haunt him.

Delaney Fisher is everything good in the world. Clinging onto the memory of her mom, she runs her mom's Seattle store even though she is struggling to make ends meet. She never does anything sporadic so getting drunk one night and marrying a complete stranger was completely out of character.

Yet as the two get to know each other there could be more in common than they thought and maybe each needs the other to finally find the one thing to turn their respective lives around.

I really liked both of the characters in this book. Delaney was such a good girl who deserved to be spoiled and live a life that she chooses instead of giving up everything for the memory of her mom. Ronan had to give up on his own dreams to follow the family plan so both these characters knew about sacrifices.

They definitely had some ups and downs but the book was very enjoyable and the characters were ones you wanted to succeed and follow their own paths!

Looking forward to more!- Rebecca

Oh i found this book to be very well written! Both characters were written well and the use of Greek myth and knowledge was intriguing.

The FMC Laney was so easy to love even though she is stuck and giving more than she is getting. I was so glad to see she had a great best friend and a man who finally sees her for what she is worth. She is stubborn when it comes to her heart health because of fear of doctors.

Ronan the MMC is seen as loose Canon playboy... but to be honest he is a lonely broken man. You can be surrounded by people and still be lonely and not understood. It seemed like fate he found his goddess to bring him to life. Plus him being a smart man who enjoyed her intelligence was so appreciated.

Ronans dad is piece of work... i would despise a man like him. I wish I would have seen more coming together and acknowledgment that the brothers needed to bond. Maybe in the next book with Owen it all comes together.

I loved the duo and totally love that he seen her as his "Ariadne" when he married her. LOTS OF "My Wife" energy.

"The truth was, I was a lost man. Maybe I had been since that first night in Vegas. Maybe the idea that I ever had any control when it came to this woman had always been as much a myth as the names I’d given us: Dionysus and Ariadne. The god of wine, merriment and madness. And his wife, goddess of mazes, passion, and… forgiveness of all things."

*I received an ARC and this was a delightful read.

ARC Received from author <3: 4.5/5

Morally Black Elopement is a fast, addictive mafia romance that hooked me from the first chapter. I picked it up on a whim and finished it in two days because I couldn’t look away from Laney and Ronan’s story.

Laney is a smart, determined heroine navigating grief, loss, and the uncertainty of rebuilding her life. Ronan is her opposite in all the best ways — violent, protective, and rough around the edges, but also intelligent, thoughtful, and far more complex than he first appears. Their shared love of classic literature and the Greek references woven throughout the book added a surprising emotional depth.

Ronan’s humor and stubbornness made him one of my favorite parts of the story. He fights his feelings relentlessly, often to his own detriment, and his unhinged commentary had me laughing out loud. He wasn’t raised with love, so watching him slowly recognize what he feels for Laney was both heartbreaking and beautiful.

Their romance is tense, messy, and full of devotion — the kind of connection that forms even when the world is against them.

If you enjoy:
• protective, morally gray MMCs
• resilient heroines finding their strength
• mafia romance with emotional depth
• Greek‑myth nods and literary references
…this book is absolutely worth picking up.

Firstly didn’t realise this was book 2 so that’s on me I kind of don’t think I missed much but it was fairly obvious as they referred back quite a bit.

The Black family all suck they snipe at each other don’t support each other and considering they were all brought up you think they would have banded together more.

Ronan is the thigh of the family but really he is well read and very intelligent. Thankfully I didn’t read the previous book as I think I would have disliked his character more than I did. He is beyond a playboy he is on the verge of becoming a drug addict he does all of these things apparently to numb himself.

Laney is a good girl her mother recently died she gave up her schooling to care for her and has taken over her shop even though she doesn’t want to. Her father is grieving has moved away and now hardly speaks to her anymore. She also has a heart condition that could be easily controlled with a minor surgery but she is terrified of hospital.

Ronan and Laney meet in Vegas and get married as Ronan has been named interim CEO this is great for him and as Laney is drawn to Ronan and is lost in her life they agreed to 6 months of giving it a try. How Ronan is still kind of the opinion that it won’t last they do fall in love.

There is a side storyline about one of the kidnappers from book one but it minor and kind of boring.

Laney
She wakes up one morning in Vegas, naked and married, with no memoryof how it happened. She meets her "husband", Ronan who is her exact opposite.

Ronan
Calls himself the "non-essential third son". The cleaner in his family. His part starts with him going to Vegas to clean up his brother's Brendan mess. And then he gets voted as temporary CEO to his family business a position he doesn't want but still wants to keep.

This is the second book of a series written by Nicole French. I went into this book without having read the first one before and it was fine, I didn't have any difficulties following.

Very well written, the story got me interested from the beginning, I didn't have to force myself to continue reading it. I loved each of the characters for their own reasons. This book made me laugh and root for Ronan and Lainey as if they were my best friends. I absolutely looove Ronan, he is one of the funniest characters I've met.

Could not put this book down. I am so glad for the opportunity. Having an ARC copy made me discover an incredible author. I will read her other books.

I love books where they fall fast and have to fight for each other. One lies to the other and they have to grovel for forgiveness.

I loved this book. This isn’t the first morally black book that I’ve read. It was just as entertaining and easy to read. I loved that the Blacks knew that they were pretty much without morals. Each of the Blacks had issues, but with a father like Niall that was to be expected. He made the children start fighting each other from an early age. The part about the fight for the $20.00 let the reader know about the parentage of the Black siblings. The good news is that there is a way out of the cruelty that has been instilled in the Children. The book allows us to see change start. Ronan, (identifying himself and Dionysus), found his Ariadne, and had to make the choice to either walk away from the morally black life that he had been reared into or fight for his marriage to Laney. In fact, it appears that Ronan had a premonition of Laney as he was about to commit one of his final acts of cruelty for the family as he saw a pair of green eyes as he thought of pushing his victim to his death. Could he grow the conscience that his upbringing had hindered? This is a story that deals with so many themes of life: immorality, envy, marriage, sickness, death, parentage, friendship and above all love. It is a must read!

Enjoyed this book. Started reading it as I saw something on instagram which hooked me in.
Love a marriage of convenience trope.

WHAT I LIKED:
- RONAN (MMC) was swoon worthy, I loved how sure he was of what he wanted. He liked Lanny from the moment he saw her and went for her
- LANNY (FMC) was interesting, I knew her heart condition would come back, I liked the leap of faith she took with the relationship
- The twist at the end with what happens in the desert was interesting and reading it, it was nice to be surprised that RONAN didn’t kill him
- Protective MMC trope is always great, RONAN turning up and supporting Lanny was nice

WHAT I DISLIKED
- We never go into depth about how Lanny feels about RONAN’s history. It’s touched on but would have been nice for RONAN to have gone into detail with Lanny about this
- Wasn’t a fan of how Lanny reacted to some things, could have spoken them through. The business being bought wasn’t ronans fault
- RONAN could’ve come clean about why he needed Lanny, would’ve rather had that be known than Lanny stay in the dark

Overall enjoyed the book, small plot points that could have been changed or discussed further. Nice MMC, foreshadowing was good but still kept readers on their toes

✨Review of ARC from author✨

We follow Laney and Ronan after they get drunk one night in Vegas only to wake up the next morning. Even after their initial meeting, there’s instant chemistry between the two and Greek myth banter they enjoy.

Ronan is a character with different sides that he carefully chooses depending on the person. Learning about him, it’s hard not to root from him to get his happy ending with everything we learn. The same can be said for Laney. Both have been through so much throughout their lives before and after meeting. He falls first and he’s down BAD.

I do wish there was a chapter or a bonus with what actually happened that drunken night in Vegas. We know the gist of it and things are implied. I just think it would’ve been fun to see them pick the rings, get married with Elvis, before consummating the marriage.

There are mentions of cancer, death of a parent, a heart condition, and violence (not between MCs).

This book was a wild ride in a good way. This was my first book by Nicole French and it won’t be my last. I’m interested to see how things play out in Owen’s story with Jenny.

If I could give this book 100* I would.... it was so enjoyable to read - Thank you Nicole for your inagination!

Ronan was raised to do the dirty work in the family business - apparently now he was second in line to take over the family business, now that his brother had found love, and stepped down to live his life on his terms.

Ronan was doing said job, when what crossed his path, but a most gorgeous woman, who drew him right him in - they partied all night - woke up the next morning, ooops - drank too much - they were married - this was great.

Roman was taken with Delaney 'Laney' right from the get go - she was everything he didn't know he wanted - almost immediately she made him a better man. She had her issues, money and health wise - he wanted to help her anyway he could.

He wasn't totally honest from the start - as us readers could guess - but he really wanted her, and for everything to work out, but his family never helped or made his life easy, when the truth came out, he would lose her, and he did.

The most important thing - they did fall deeply in love - and as we know, love conquers all.

Morally Black Elopement is the second installment of the Morally Black Weddings series by Nicole French. Ronan and Laney have an instant connection when they meet in Vegas. Unfortunately (fortunately?), what happens in Vegas doesn’t stay in Vegas when you drunkenly marry the billionaire playboy who is more than he seems.

This was a fun book with all of the tropes that romance readers love to eat up. There were some typos and plot holes that were a bit distracting but I was fully rooting for the MCs the whole time. I appreciate that Laney gets to be soft but still holds her own and advocates for herself when it matters. She demands communication and clear expectations and really learns to lean into her “wild” side while staying true to who she is.

The reformed rake trope is such a hit for a reason and Ronan is everything you want in a bad boy turned simp for his woman. He doesn’t treat her like glass but isn’t afraid to do whatever it takes to protect her. My favorite part about this character was his ability to be confident and not take himself too seriously. The c*m in his pants situation literally had me laughing out loud. Overall, super fun vibes read!
