"A Gift In Time" is a fast-paced novel that I devoured in only a few sittings. The characters feel real, and the author creates a world that brings them to life. The twists and turns of the novel were great, surprising me at times. But when looking back at the foreshadowing, they made sense. Assuming the plausibility of time travel, a must for any novel in that genre, I found the author's handling of the events extremely well done.
I found myself pulling for the protagonist to overcome his alcohol dependence, cheering when he succeeded, and feeling let down when he relapsed. The other characters felt well-developed, each with their own backstory.
I'll conclude with a quote from the novel: "So don't look at the clock, don't count the hours as they pass by, because time isn't measured by ticks and seconds anymore. Count the moments instead, the ones that make your heartbeat faster, the ones that linger long after they've passed." There's a lesson in there for all of us.
