The Bachelor Sage: A Gilded Age Tale of Forbidden Love and Ruin
Edward Sage has spent two decades crafting his exile in Paris, France—a glittering world of champagne, artistic salons, and curated pleasures, far from his father’s suffocating control and Boston’s rigid expectations.
But when tragedy strikes, his world crumbles, forcing him back to Beacon Hill and the society he fled.
In early 20th-century Boston, reputation is currency and desire is dangerous. Edward returns to a family ruled by a powerful, wealthy patriarch—and to an ultimatum designed to break submit to a forced marriage, or face ruin. Trapped between duty and survival, Edward must navigate the treacherous rituals of Boston’s elite while confronting the man he’s become… and the life he refuses to surrender.
And then there is him—the one temptation Edward can’t afford. In a world that punishes truth, their connection becomes both refuge and a forbidden M/M romance where every glance carries consequence, and every choice threatens scandal.
From the perfumed drawing rooms of Paris to the marble halls of Beacon Hill, The Bachelor Sage is an elegant, merciless gay historical romance—a story of forbidden love, family secrets, class power, and the corrosive reach of wealth. Some freedoms, Edward discovers, come at a cost too steep to pay… but some are worth everything.
Perfect for readers who M/M historical romance, queer historical fiction, Boston high society drama, forced/arranged marriage tension, scandal, and character-driven stories.

William Charles has written a compelling page-turner. Following Edward throughout his journey from his exile to Paris and back to Boston was heart-wrenching and gripping to read. The expectations of family and the times were viscerally felt on every page.
You can't help but fall in love with the characters, especially Teddy!
