FORGET THE MILK AND COOKIES. SANTA WANTS BLOOD.

Santa Claus has collapsed in the courtyard of the Magnolia Street Orphanage, but it wasn’t the fall that stopped his heart. He’s been bitten. He is bleeding out. And he is changing.

The symbol of hope is turning into a vampire, his magic is fading, and a terrifying hunger is setting in.

Ellie Sparkleberry, the workshop’s iron-willed Operations Chief, has one night to save Christmas from extinction. Forced to leave the sanctuary of the North Pole for the shadows of New Orleans, she assembles a chaotic rescue a disaster-prone elf, a supernatural fixer, a reclusive swamp healer, and a clairvoyant child.

But the Big Easy is hiding secrets darker than coal.

As the aurora dims and the clock races toward dawn, Ellie must battle monsters wearing the faces of children and a magic that has turned against its master. If she can't pull a miracle from the chaos, the man who brings joy to the world will become the monster who hunts it.

Vampires, Elves, Cajuns and Christmas!

This story was great! It had action, adventure, magic and Christmas vibes galore! Santa gets bit by a vampire child and his elves and magical Cajun friends have to help him while fighting off an evil vampire orphanage overlord! This one had me laughing and on the edge of my seat throughout.

This book was so great I absolutely loved it i am a big horror fan so reading this book and the vampire element really caught my attention. The fact that santa was bitten by a child that he really wanted to leave a present for turning him into a vampire was wild. The two elves and two vampire children helped get a cure for santa allowing him to become his old selfe was amazing and something i was hoping would happen and not keep him a vampire forever and losing christmas. The fight with lucian was a great twist the battle of good and evil so to speak but was a really great book and i really enjoyed it I was laughing and at the edge of my seat the whole time and blew through the book in a matter of 3 days it was good definatly going to read this again

Excellent holiday read - but actually great anytime of the year! Yes, the focus is Christmas, and Santa’s fate after being bitten by a vampire child on Christmas Eve, but the inherent themes of the book - hope, sacrifice, redemption, belief, forgiveness- are evergreen.
I loved reading this. Purnell has a really lovely way with words - his language choice and style evokes the heady heat of New Orleans as well as the crisp, frozen Arctic, and he conjures up imagery and emotions deftly. He manages to create tension, whilst simultaneously bringing humour. A great read, and one I will no doubt revisit over and over again.
