The Bible is the ultimate authority on life, so it is the first place we should look, to find answers to our questions about depression. But the Bible is a lengthy and complex book, and those answers are buried within its covers. So—the main purpose of this book is to help uncover those answers, and to offer my understanding of what the Bible teaches about depression.
But, I want this book to provide you with more than my understanding of what the Bible teaches. I also want you to read for yourself the relevant Bible verses concerning depression. Therefore, a second purpose of this book is to quote the relevant Bible verses. That way, you can decide for yourself what the Bible teaches about depression.
Either Get Angry at God or Turn to Him
When depression and other causes of suffering turn our world upside down, it leaves us with the choice to either be angry at God or to turn to Him for help. Depression and other types of affliction often tempt us to blame God for our suffering. It can also bring us down so low that we have no place else to go than to do business with God.
Severe Depression Wrecks Lives
With depression, you can lose some or all of the things you hold dear. Especially in severe cases, it can rob you of your health, energy, hope, job, career, marriage and family, custody of your children, good reputation, finances, friends, dreams, desire to live, and things like that. Only God can restore those things for you, as He did for Job (42:10-17)
Questions To Be Addressed in This Book
