He is literally a son of a son of a sailor. His grandfather was in the merchant marines during WWII and his great-grandfather was 1st mate on merchant brigantines sailing from the coast of Maine to the Caribbean. The sea is in his veins. Unfortunately, no known pirate lineage. As a student of history and inspired by the lyrics and lifestyle of Jimmy Buffet, he has stories percolating inside him asking to be told. The first, Son of a Son of a Pirate, is a blend of history, fiction, and events lost to history.

One particular harbor was amazing
It got better as I read it. The energy throughout the book was perfect. The amount of research is impressive and even when I reviewed it , looked it up th concern the pieces it remained very good. Teach and gazelle made an interesting pair, I actually liked her better in this book than the first. Keep it up Chris Harvey, you really make me want to read more.

Great read!
Enjoyed this book. Fun mixture of pirate lore, history and adventure. Couldn’t put the book down. Can’t wait for book 3!

Review title: More history, less Buffett
As promised when I finished Son of a Son of a Pirate I went straight to Chris Harvey's followup One Particular Harbor, and I'm happy to report he is making progress as a writer and a storyteller. While I gave the first book three stars only for Buffett fans and "two stars looking for a reason to exist" for everyone else, this book gets a solid three stars trending upward for any reader. Harvey has done a better job incorporating the Buffett references into the story, the syntax and spelling errors of the first novel are fewer here, and while dialogue (the hardest part of good fiction) is still not literary quality it is improving in readability.
And the story leans more heavily into the history of the Spanish conquest of Mexico. Harvey is carving a niche here by blending ancient Aztec relics, 1500s Spanish conquest, tales from the golden age of piracy (here Captain Henry Morgan in the 1680s), and the research and adventure of his 21st century characters John "Teach" Taylor and his girlfriend Giselle Huitzil. Here Teach and Giselle are still unpacking their finds from Blackbeard's treasure in the first book, when they discover a cross from the altar of La Conchita, which if you Google is believed to be the first Catholic Church in the Americas--and built on top of an ancient Toltec altar. Harvey skillfully weaves these artifacts and history into a story that blends mystical powers and pirate exploits (a big portion of the story involves Morgan's capture of a huge store of treasure from Porto Bello, now in Panama, a historical incident) with modern-day Mexican politics.
I'm not going to go overboard and call this a classic or even very good, but I'll tell you I have read a couple of Clive Cussler's adventure books and this is better than those. Harvey made progress here, and sets up the expectation of a third in the series, which I will read with hopes of continued improvement.

Blackbeard & Buffett Bonanza in a Book!
This book has so many ways to capture one’s Imagination; Montezuma’s Golden Heart, Aztec Gods, Blackbeards Legendary Prowess among Pirates, and a Jimmy Buffett’s Tour Guide from Key West. Truly a great read on so many levels to enjoy!

Interesting read with multiple timelines
Good storyline , albeit stretches the premise at times would have loved the golden altar woven in for Morgan to complete the mystery.
