thank you netgalley for this arc!!

I LOVE SILLY PARANORMAL ROM-COMS!!!!! this was so funny, so sweet, and so silly. honestly it struck the perfect balance of all of those things for me, and reminded me of some of my other favourite books (e. g. the my vampire series). i really think you’ll love this if you love an endearing mmc, a strong willed fmc, and lots of funny moments. i flew through this in practically one evening. highly recommend!!!

This was a solid 3 ⭐

I wasn’t sure where the plot was going at first, but it gave me romcom vibes with all the dating/flirting lessons, and glow up tropes. Gabriel and Harper were smitten with each other pretty fast, which I’m not a huge fan of.

Even though I wasn’t obsessed with them as a couple, they had some great moments. And I loved all the biting we got in this book. Yummy.

I also thought the third act conflict was a cheap way out. Instead of them actually choosing what to do next, the decision was made for them… and conveniently gave them just what they needed for the relationship to keep going.

It’s cute, it's silly, and it’s easy to read.

✎ᝰ. pre-read: no way, i was just thinking about requesting this yesterday, and then it popped up on read now 🫪 i grabbed it so fast 💃🧛‍♂️

Thank you to berkley for the gifted copy!

Rosie Danan is one of those authors I keep coming back to because her premises are so good. A CW star who turns into a werewolf? A porn star teaching sex ed? A vampire as the lead of the Bachelor? While this book had a lot of promise, I just could not get into it as much as I wanted to. The characters had some chemistry, but some of their internal monologues got a little too repetitive. The pacing also felt kinda off - I expected the TV show to be a bigger part of the story, and it ended up being a nothing burger. Overall, I think this had great potential but just didn't deliver in a meaningful way.

Every time I say goodbye to you, I have to force myself not to ask ‘How long? Just tell me how long I have to wait so I’ll know.’”

If you liked Fan Service, buckle up for another Rosie Danan smash hit. If you haven’t read Fan Service, I’m jealous that you get to read it for the first time. Again, Danan fuses the paranormal into our world absolutely seamlessly. It’s fun and funny and sexy and emotional.

Just a few things you’ll get in Villain Edit (no spoilers, I promise):

✅ messy, relatable FMC
✅ cinnamon roll MMC
✅ yearning
✅ a love letter to reality tv
✅ family of all kinds
✅ 🌶️🌶️

I inhaled this. I think the plot was incredibly unique, and the characters well developed. Even the side characters were brought to life. The romance was delicious and the steam delivered. What more can you ask for?

Thank you to Rosie Danan, Berkley, and NetGalley for the ARC of my dreams.

If you haven’t read Fan Service, go read that too.

When I got my approval for this complimentary eARC from Berkley via NetGalley, I was super excited! The description just drew me in, as I love reading about the inner workings of reality dating shows despite not watching them myself. I don’t mind that they are predictable, as you can almost guarantee you’ll know the outcome from the start. I want to read all the hijinks of the show that will get us to that end! There are so many creative ways to explore this concept in order to bring forth an engaging read.

Unfortunately, even with diving into the paranormal and having one of the contestants be a vampire, a being that is known in this book’s reality, it failed to hold my attention. It was such a shame, as there were so many aspects that should have made for a personal home run, but we only got a few hits.

I think one of the bigger challenges was that our FMC, Harper, just wasn’t likable, and there was no reason for it. I mean, her whole personality revolves around being a reality show producer and things that happened during her tenure at her original job. I don’t want to give any spoilers, so I’ll leave it at that, and you’ll have to take my word for it. I just couldn’t figure out why any prospective partner would fall for her, but maybe that’s just me!!

The other issue was the actual writing. I found it strange. At times, I felt like I was reading a first draft where the author was just writing to see what sticks. I can’t even express what the issue was without giving examples, but that again would create spoilers, so…

Anyway, this was a miss for me this time, but I think my disappointment is partially affected by how excited I was going into the read. So, thinking a bit more objectively, I think this book will find its audience. I like the real-world paranormal aspect, the romance, the reality show (even if that aspect was lacking for me), and the different things that went awry along the way that made for a pleasant surprise.

This one comes out on December 8th, so the audiobook will be available for me shortly. I think I’m going to give it a go and see if the change in format helps me engage a bit more. I’ll come back and update before publication once I’ve read the audio.

I always love a good paranormal romcom as a palate cleanser in between some of the other books I read. And I was super excited about this one in particular. I’ve been meaning to read this author for a while now.

And don’t get me wrong, I had a good time. Harper was a very relatable FMC and honestly I really liked the social commentary inserted in a seemingly surface level book about misogyny, expectations and reality. I loved Gabriel and how socially awkward he seemed. And I liked them together as well, despite the ridiculous premise. But like, even the way vampires just being a thing was explained, I honestly thought that was cleverly done and “realistic” if that’s even a word I could remotely use in the context of speaking about vampires coexisting in our world, in a non mythological sense.

I, however, really struggled with the pacing. I found certain parts way too slow and dragged out, sadly in detriment of others being rushed. I felt like it took so long to even get to the premise of the blurb and we spent so much time on unnecessary details and descriptions.

Overall this was okay. I just think that if this book was 100 pages shorter I would have liked it a lot better. And I generally loooove long books, there just need to be a reason for the added length beyond descriptions and ramblings that don’t add enough to the plot or the characters.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the arc!

I dare to say Villain Edit hits even harder than Fan Service and has officially stolen its place as my favourite Rosie Danan book. Like, excuse me????

The way vampirism came to exist was so original and refreshing. I would NEVER have thought about a mutation developing in people living at high altitudes, and honestly, I loved this take on vampires.

Harper and Gabriel are such a fantastic duo, both individually and together. They feel so real, and I had absolutely no trouble believing in the slow burn between two of the densest people ever. THE PINING. THE YEARING. THE ABSOLUTE INABILITY TO GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER. And Gabriel? That man deserves a good bite and a sip of blood. I JUST LOVE THEM. GOODBYE.

Villain Edit brought back all those good old rom-com vibes that make me want to rewatch my favourite movies for the millionth time. It was fun, swoony, ridiculous in the best way, and I NEED MORE BOOKS LIKE THIS. Rosie Danan, you did it again!!!

The Villain Edit was a quick, fun read, but it didn’t knock my socks off. Gabriel was easily my favorite part (no surprise there). I loved how naturally he fit in at the retirement community and the friendships he built with the residents. Those scenes had so much heart and were some of the most charming moments in the book. His interactions with Harper were well done too, and their dynamic kept me turning pages.

I also really liked the premise. The reality show twist was a fun hook, and I enjoyed a world where vampires exist and humans actually know about them. It gave the story a fresh angle.

In the end, though, this felt like a pretty standard romance to me. Nothing was bad, but nothing stood out enough to push it to a higher rating. If you’re in the mood for a light, entertaining paranormal romance, it’s worth picking up. Just don’t expect it to blow you away.

This was such a unique take on vampires, and I thought the author brought in the paranormal elements subtly.

The real world aspect was fascinating and the intense push/pull of keeping boundaries but with raw honesty kept me hooked!!

I also loved the slow-ish burn of romance!

I would recommend if you're looking for (SPOILERS)

-m/f paranormal romance
-forced proximity
-cinnamon roll vampire
-just a hookup

If Rosie writes it, I will be obssesed with it. Those are just the rules. Rosie knows just how to write a mmc who is just gone on the fmc, and obsessed with everything little thing she does. The litle detials Rosie adds in you can't help but fall in love with the characters and feel their connection. This book was no different. A down on her luck reality tv producer and a vampire living a quiet life. The chemistry was incredible.

All the stars aligned for me when it came to this book’s blurb and tropes. A reality TV dating show. A sweet, slightly out-of-touch cinnamon roll vampire MMC. A scrappy FMC. A quirky matchmaking grandmother and a retirement home (I unironically love old people). This should have been THE book for me. And yet, it wasn’t.

Don’t get me wrong; it did have all the elements I just mentioned. It excelled at most of them. There was a mens knitting club, fun jokes and banter, a sweet cast of side characters and our MMC is truly a GEM of a man. Vampire. Whatever. I love him. Truly. I liked our FMC fine for the most part, but I found her inner dialogue a little annoying and repetitive at times.
My main issue, however, was the pacing and lack of action in the plot and overall storyline. The reality TV show IS a big part of the story. But it’s more of a driving factor in the background, while you’re waiting for everyone to get over themselves in one way or another. There was a little romantic tension, yes, but the push and pull was just… off somehow. At times, it felt like we were more in our MC’s heads than actually progressing the plot, and while both of them have a layer of depth because of their past and/or upbringing, I hate to say it, but it’s really not that deep. It didn’t feel justified and it made the entire story drag. The ‘big’ reveals were either underwhelming or too abrupt to be satisfying, and the latter could also be said about the ending of the book and its lack of epilogue.

I dunno, I guess I was just expecting and hoping for more, especially because I loved the premise so much. I can see the potential and I’ve heard a lot of good things about Rosie Danan’s other book (Fan Service), so I’ll definitely be picking that up!

stoppp, i had SO much fun reading this one!! villain edit is tender, silly, intimate, funny, emotional, sweet, and ‼️hot af‼️ truly, what more could a girl want?? the premise immediately intrigued me, & i loved the unique twist on vampire lore! i was also sucked (no pun intended) into this story almost immediately. by the end, i felt like i had genuinely gone Through It™️ with harper & gabriel. their individual character arcs were so satisfying, and i loved getting to experience their growth alongside the development of their relationship. watching these two slowly fall for each other was SO beautiful 😭

i really loved the way danan writes quiet intimacy. there’s something about the smaller, softer moments between characters that gets me every time, and boyyy does danan deliver here. i loved harper & gabriel so much and thought they complemented each other perfectly. harper, my strong, resilient, relatable girl who deserves all the softness in the world <3 if harper has no defenders, just know that me & gabriel?? we’re DEAD 🫡 gabriel, ily2 King. he is just so Good. my sweet, awkward, endearing cinnamon roll of a man. also, he whines & whimpers 👹🫦👹 i rest my case 😌 max was an absolute delight!! and the men’s knitting club??? obsessed. there were so many genuinely funny moments, as well as little moments that made my heart physically ache. the babysitting scene 😭😩 honestly, my only complaints are that the ending felt a bit rushed & i greedily wanted an epilogue :((

overall, this was such a delicious read, and i hope we get more paranormal romance from danan bc i am LOVING her approach to the genre. a little bit silly, incredibly sweet, & veryyy sexy.

thank you so much to netgalley and berkley for providing me with this arc!

buddy arc read w my lover, jordan <3
another paranormal hit from rosie! (i’ll take about 97 more, please) this was fun!! i loved the humor, the characters, & the spice 🫦 gabriel & harper are so special to me.

i would die for this vampire man? i’ve said this before, but a niche trope i like is a clueless old vampire that has to be taught things from this day & age. i think it’s just so funny. i love some of the side quests in this?? like i think his knitting group & the retirement community he lives in is actually so funny. lemme tell you, rosie knew what she was doing writing this man. 10/10 would die for him.

harper is the embodiment of a rose with thorns (complimentary). she’s someone i would love to have by my side fighting for me, and gabriel does not take that for granted (and i LOVEEEE IT!!!!). she's mean, she's mouthy, and i LIVE FOR IT!! (so does gabriel hehe). i adore her. she is who i aspire to be, and she’s so very lovely.

together they’re HOT. i love the kind of opposites attract thing we have going on here. gabriel loves EVERYTHING about her (how couldn’t he tbh). i feel like they both really needed each other. the banter was perfect, the tension was magnificent, and the way they care about each other is top tier 🥹

okay this is getting long. anyway read villain edit!!! thank you to the publisher for providing this book for review via netgalley. all opinions are my own <3

"Villain Edit" is a fun and quick-paced romance with truly enjoyable characters in dual-POV roles. Harper is a recently-fired media person working in reality TV, and Gabriel is an exiled vampire trying to prove himself to his clan. Harper sees Gabriel as a ticket back in to the industry that shunned her, and Gabriel sees Harper as a way to demonstrate that he's got a control of his bloodlust. Sparks fly immediately! It's a fun set up, and what makes it work so well is that Harper and Gabriel aren't the typical romance characters: Harper is smart, abrasive, and job-focused. Gabriel is shy, academic, and thoughtful in how he comes across in his interactions.

My sole quibble is a big one – I don't think the book's summary really matches what happened in the plot. There is very little reality TV taking place in this book – and very little of the titular "villain edit". We never see Gabriel on TV in the show, and we only get one small scene where he's actually on a set at all. I came in expecting this to be somewhat of a workplace romance and in reality it's more of a close proximity (because they're preparing to eventually go on reality tv) romance. There were also a few loose ends that were surprising – will there be a sequel? Perhaps!

Overall, I liked it a lot, but my enjoyment was tempered by mismatched expectations and a few plots that hadn't really resolved.

thank you berkley & NetGalley for an early advanced copy of this book.
i absolutely hate to say this… but i had such high expectations for this book & it missed the mark.
while there were a lot of cute moments and i LOVED gabriel - there were so many things that fell short.
i thought this was marketed as a reality tv show book (similar to love overboard or the true love experiment) but that part of the plot wasn’t followed through until 80% through the book 🥲 while harper prepares him for his debut, that’s where most of the story takes place- I just wish there had been more plot around the reality tv side. i did love his relationship with max and lorraine and the kleins- i love that gabriel lives & helps with the elderly 😂
i gave a .75 stars back for the plot twist at the end, but honestly i just can’t get over how disappointed i am that this wasn’t better 😭 there’s also such potential for rosie to continue with gabriel’s home & i feel like him getting kicked out wasn’t talked about enough, especially at the end. ANYWAYS, i’m sad but overall- it was good enough to finish so 🤪

I love a vampire romance and though this particular vampire world might have been a little different from what I'm used to, it was interesting nonetheless. Gabriel truly was one massive green flag, I mean the flowers... just his entire thought process all the time. Genuinely, I am obsessed with him omg. And I love a headstrong fmc, she knew what she wanted and she was going to get it (relentless). I thought they were cute together and should've saved themselves the pain they put themselves through, though I do understand why they both did it. Also, I loved how Harper's family was willing to learn, it especially helped her later in the book and they ended up being so cute.
I just... did not really like the ending and how everything was 'resolved'. I don't want to spoil anything so I won't give any specifics, but there are just some aspects that feel unfinished or left me unsatisfied. Maybe there will be an epilogue which will solve this, but I think that one particular one won't, so yeah.

Thank you to the publisher for the ARC!

This was a nice look behind the scenes at reality TV dating. The vampire angle was unique as was the pre-show weeks. Loved Harper’s family - and it was nice to see queer rep though (lesbian sister). Harper is loveably job-obsessed and Gabriel is the perfect vampire to help her slow down and smell the roses. It shouldn’t work but it totally does. Where I struggled a bit was the pacing and some of the details - for instance, it was often stated that he was supposed to be King, but I never really felt it. But I was rooting for them and thought they were a great fit, and loved the ode to reality TV.

Short summary: Harper’s out of a job, out of a lifestyle, out of friends - but not family. When her grandmother invites her to stay at her condo, the last thing she expects is for a vampire to be living out back…a hot vampire king who might be her solution to getting her job back.

First, thank you, NetGalley and Berkley, for letting me get an e-ARC of this book in exchange for a honest review.

3.25/5— stars

It had a great premise: Harper gets fired from her job and figures that if she can get Gabriel, the vampire crown prince, to participate in a reality show, she might get her job back.

It was fun and had some good moments. It was also very much inspired by the classic movie trope of the popular kid giving the school's nerd a makeover.

However, the chemistry between Harper and Gabriel felt lacking. I wish I had connected with their relationship more, but unfortunately, I couldn't.

Still, it was a very good book to read during spooky season, especially since I was craving vampires. I love vampires! It had its good moments, and I don't regret reading it. I would still recommend it!

*this review is courtesy of an ARC received via NetGalley*

For as long as I can recall, I’ve been a fan of anything with vampires involved. So, needless to say, I loved the chance to read this ARC of a romance with a vampire MMC.

The plot was cute, and I loved the characters. Gigi having been on vacation for most of the book sucks because she was a VIBE. the idea of a vampire on a dating show was a great idea. However, I feel like I would have appreciated more leaning into the vampire aspect. I know that Gabriel’s character is all about breaking the stigma and taboos around vampirism, however, I could easily forget he himself is a vampire. I think he was written with too much attempt at being a ‘cinnamon roll’ character and would have benefitted from more edge or a bit more of what I have come to find normal in vampire affiliated media.

Overall, this was fun and I enjoyed the story. There was one part in one of the spicy scenes that just wasn’t for me (think: period and vampires) but it didn’t detract from the experience.

Thank you NetGalley and Berkley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

The premise sounded amazing - vampire on a trashy reality tv dating show?! Sign me up for those hijinks.

Unfortunately though, that premise wasn't the book. There was some prep towards a reality tv dating show, but even that took a back seat. The title also never came into play, minus a three page scene near the end.

Harper also just wasn't likable for no discernible reason. Gabriel gives her some slight depth, but even that feels superficial. Gabriel definitely was the heart - I would have loved an entire book of just him and Max and Mr. Klein in their men's knitting club.

Overall it was a fine paranormal romance, it just didn't match expectations from the title or blurb and that cooled my enjoyment.

Thank you so much to Berkley Publishing Group for the opportunity to read this as an ARC. Unfortunately I did have to DNF this at 30%. I tried my hardest to keep reading but I couldn’t find myself liking the main FMC, Harper. I do love a strong FMC, but I felt like she was truly taking advantage of Gabriel’s character and how kind he was. I realize she knew this as well, as it was mentioned, but other things about her character felt abrasive and I just couldn’t find myself enjoying the story. I’m sure this is absolutely just a me thing, and this could definitely be someone else’s favorite read!

I was so excited for Villain Edit as a long-time fan of Rosie Danan's work, but this was a huge letdown. There were issues with pacing–including a lack of an epilogue, which caused many issues—a lack of romantic involvement, and a lackluster plot. While I enjoyed many moments, I cannot give this book four stars because it is not a book I would recommend. Her previous paranormal romance Fan Service was miles above Villain Edit, which is disappointing. I hope her next book will remind me and her readers of her abilities.'

Thank you NetGalley for the arc!! I always love a vampire human romance, and this was very fun. This kind of leaned into the camp of it all, but absolutely not in a bad way. The characters grew and developed so nicely over the course of the book, and Harper and Gabriel were both lovely and had more depth than I initially anticipated. The plot did not go where I expected it to, and I was pleased with the conclusion.

Brilliant. Literally EVERYTHING I wanted from a contemporary vampire rom com.

Rosie Danan has a gift for writing characters you want to coddle in a blanket, and Harper and Gabriel are no exception. Harper is a delightful mess: freshly laid off, wrestling with depression and a full-blown existential crisis, and hanging on by a thread. Gabriel is a lonely cinnamon roll with manners that haven’t aged a day since the 1800s, living in a senior housing development. Together they suffer, yearn, pine, long, lose control, and maybe, just maybe learn to be vulnerable and accept love.

The romance is hurt/comfort at its finest: emotionally deep, tender, and gloriously unhinged in the hilarious and heartfelt way only Rosie can craft. The plot was so fun, but I will say that I was expecting more scenes of them actually on the show, rather than just the pitch and prep of a vampire as the lead.

But A++, fantastic overall. I had the best time with this one and could not put it down. I actually read it in a single sitting on a cross-country flight, that's how much I enjoyed it!
