Making Time

Rate this book
It’s not a meet-cute. It’s a meet-chaos.

Nothing about Jamie Sullivan’s first season as captain of the Madison Muskies is going according to plan. He’s playing terribly, and an impulsive on-ice fight leaves him injured and out of the lineup. It feels like things can’t get worse when a drunken scrap with a neighborhood snowman lands him in Tyler’s path.

Tyler Raymond is back in Madison with his three year old son, Rowan, doing everything in his power to hold his life together while stuck in disorderly (but affordable) student housing. He has enough on his plate without huge, soft-eyed men knocking themselves unconscious in his yard.

Jamie is desperate to make things right. Realizing Tyler needs a reset, Jamie puts him in touch with his moms, who rent out their attic apartment. What began as a rock-bottom moment quickly changes as Jamie gets to know the prickly single dad and his adorable son, and soon enough it feels natural to include them in his life on and off the ice.

Neither of them have time for romance: Jamie is trying to return to the lineup and redeem himself, while Tyler is trying to make ends meet as a single parent. But there’s something undeniable there, and with every second the two men spend together, their reasons for why a relationship won’t work start to disappear.

Maybe, for each other, they can make time.

This was so sweet I could cry.
Making time is a hockey player x single dad romance and it was everything I could ask for. I love kids in books and Rowan was so cute and everyone in the book was honestly so nice I got to escape reality for a while.
If you like cute romances that will make you smile and maybe cry a little bit look no further, this is it.

Thank you to the author for the ARC!!

Oh my goodness, this book was SO SWEET and wonderful!! Wow, @taylorewestonauthor really crushed it with Making Time, a beautifully written single dad romance that had me alternating between swooning, crying, and fanning myself.

I LOVED how Taylor explored Tyler’s single dad journey. His feelings of loneliness and the disconnect between dad life and his childless friends felt so real to me. And having to figure out how to make ends meet - I loved the positivity surrounding his job as a dancer. Jamie is willing to meet him where he is with no judgement, only support, and that just made me melt.

Jamie goes on a journey in this book too. Trying to figure out how to lead as a new captain AND prove himself worthy of dating a single dad - he’s such a sweetheart and I love how he will do anything for those he loves. There’s caretaking in this book too - including soup - and I loved every moment.

There’s quite a bit of hockey in this one, and I loved all the side characters (especially the other players’ wives, omg!). The story is relatively low angst and a perfectly paced slow burn. DO NOT miss out, I absolutely loved!!

A very chaotic meeting between a drunken hockey captain and a single dad just trying to get by turns into more than either of them bargained for in this adorably sweet and spicy romance!

Sully and Tyler were so stinking cute, but Rowan really stole the show for me—I'm a sucker for adorable kids in books, what can I say?!

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗘𝗖𝗧:
- nhl captain + single dad barista
- strangers to lovers
- chaotic first meeting
- grumpy x sunshine
- found family
- slutty mustaches
- lace
- spicy slow burn

I signed up for this ARC because I’m a total sucker for a single dad romance and a cute cover and it completely exceeded my expectations. This book perfectly balances sweet with spicy.

Rowan is an adorable kid. Sometimes I find children kind of annoying in books (and real life tbh), but he was written really well. Rowan and Tyler have such a wonderful relationship, but the highlight of the book was definitely the dynamic between the three of them once Jamie becomes a part of their lives. The incredibly sweet connection between Rowan and Jamie made the romance between Jamie and Tyler so much better. The love between the three of them was refreshingly wholesome.

But also, these two men are hot as hell. I LOVE the way they’re described - tattoos, piercings, lingerie, AND a hot moustache? We were spoiled in this one. The heat they feel for each other felt so intense and the building anticipation while they figured out their relationship was sooo good.

I really enjoyed this and I’ll definitely be checking out more from this author.

Oh? My GOD?!?! Have I found my favorite cozy read of 2026? Already in MARCH?! It's more likely than you'd think.

This story was maybe one of the sweetest and most tender single-dad romances I've read in a long time. The lack of judgement from the main (and side) characters about each others' situations in life and their openness to being vulnerable about closely guarded feelings was like feeling the full force of the sun's rays on a cold day. The way Jamie effortlessly supported Tyler and Rowan, the way Tyler steeled himself to accept help and gifts from Jamie, Jamie's moms helping with Rowan, the team instantly closing ranks around Tyler and making him feel welcome and accepted...it all made me want to cry. And I did so...a few times.

Of course there were some top-notch spicy scenes later on in the story, but the journey Tyler and Jamie took to get there was by-and-large my favorite aspect of their relationship. Instant chemistry paired with a thoughtfully slow-burn romance is exactly what I love, and this story DELIVERED.

Watching Tyler's caution surrounding his family situation melt away with Jamie's considerate and earnest nature gave me all of the good feels, and the love they both have for the sweetest boy alive (Rowan) basically sent me into orbit.

This is absolutely a 9.5 out of 10 stars. Usually, I don't require epilogues to feel like I got the whole picture, but I'm almost offended that this book didn't have one. I am, however, holding out hope that Oliver and Onni are deserving of their own book someday and that we get to see more of Jamie, Tyler, and Rowan through that. Finger's crossed!!!

I loved this book!

I wish we could all live in a loving, open-minded and overall lovely society as the one depicted in this book. I loved that there was no third act breakup and I loved that both characters didn’t immediately jump on each other the moment they met.

This story is somehow short, but still structured, there’s some good side characters and lovely moments, some good hockey played (which is sorely lacking in many hockey romances!) and a happy ending.

Anything you could ask for when picking it up, really.

When a man having an emotional breakdown he refuses to acknowledge adopts a barista slash stripper and his child, and gives him a home and pre-built support system in exchange for smooches, and discovers there's more to life than being a workaholic, and that more is d*ck.

I enjoyed Jamie and Tyler together a lot. I enjoyed the acknowledgement in the title that these were two people with very busy lives, and that making the effort to see each other was meaningful in its own right because neither of them needed more on their plates. The cast was delightful all around, from Jamie's team and the WAGs to Tyler's coworkers to Jamie's moms. The WAGs were especially wonderful, possibly because that's a group that's historically been criminally underdeveloped in many other hockey series I've read.

Tyler's mom needed to be put in her place though, please keep crying about having one of your children live out of state, drown in them xoxo

This is so hard to rate cause it wasn't bad but it wasn't good either? I feel like the author tried to force gender roles on both of the mc's but mostly on Tyler who was described as feminine in every other sentences. Wouldn't be a problem at all if i didn't have the feeling as if the author tried to have a "mom and dad" in a gay relationship. That really rubbed me the wrong way. Also it felt inconsistend at times and i didnt understand what happened and why a few times throughout reading but that could be cause i left the story halfay through.

thank you so much to the author, taylor e. weston, for giving me the opportunity of reading this arc!

this one was an easy read, a cute romance between a single father and a hockey player, and i had fun, but i also have a few problems with it in terms of the overall story.

Rating - 3.5 rounded up

This was a super sweet, low-angst romance between a single dad and an NHL captain who are both finding their footing in their lives. Jamie is a newly appointed captain of his hockey team and is trying to live up to the expectations of the role. And Tyler is new-ish to town and raising his son completely alone and just how hard that is without a good support system. They have a chaotic meet-cute and then a really sweet romance unfolds.

I was really in the mood for a single dad romance so having Rowan be such a huge part of the book was really hitting for me. He was adorable. And as someone who had a 3 year old boy not too long ago it was just something I really liked.

The found family vibes with the hockey team and WAGs and Jamie’s two moms was also super sweet.

This book is an idealized version of how a hockey team would be with their out and proud gay captain and a new man he is seeing and how they all welcome him and his son in with open arms (both the men and their wives).

Overall, if you are looking for a super sweet romance with an adorable kid this is a short little read but very cute and low-angst.

this was cute !! thank you to the author for an arc !!

i do have a lot of problems w it in general tho 🧍‍♀️

-a lot of grammatical errors that are easily fixable and hopefully fixed before this officially publishes 🙏

-the word ravenous was used three too many times in the span of six chapters. a different word would've been more applicable to each situation, one usage of it would've been perfect 🙏

-towards the end, i lost their chemistry. idk where it went. it basically disappeared off the planet

-there wasn't enough uncertainty(?) with the way the story played out. i feel like i was supposed to be more uncertain of how they would end up together with the things that were happening, but it wasnt

-i also feel like more time should've been spent on each of their individual issues that they go through, i feel like that would've impacted me more as a reader and definitely would've helped me feel the ending and their relationship in a more enjoyable/positively receptive way.

DNF @ 35%

Tyler's backstory was super weird. I didn't understand how exactly he lived on student housing when he wasn't a student (aren't those places usually reserved for people enrolled in a program) and why he left his parents' house (when they were offering support) to live at the chaotic, drug using environment that was incredibly hostile to his kid's growth. The story says Tyler left because he wanted to prove something, but that reasoning went at odds with the story also telling us that Tyler wanted what was best for his son. Leaving a house with free childcare and food for random drug using roommates and thin walls does not sound like something a father who wants what's best for his kid would do. I mean it wasn't a crackhouse or anything, but I hesitate to think that any sane parent would willing do something like that.

It got even worse when we learned that the actual reason Tyler left was because of some misguided belief that he was being overly reliant on his busy parents and that he was "cheating" in being a father. My question is, he was described as "barely working" when he did live with them, so why exactly was he being overly reliant on his parents for childcare? If they were really as busy as he says they were AND Tyler was as unemployed as he was, then what exactly did "over-reliant" even mean with regards to their situation? He presumably was basically a stay at home dad because he was underemployed, so the only thing his parents realistically offered him was the stable housing situation. You're telling me that he thought that was being too reliant and that was enough for a dad who supposedly cared about his son above all things to move out? That does not track with what I'd expect a man of his character to do. If Tyler's parents had been antagonistic somehow or their situation had some sort of failing that he believed would be detrimental to his kid's upbringing, then it would've made sense. As it is, Tyler literally chooses to leave his genuinely good parents (who were only occasional caretakers) to letting basically strangers babysit his kid while he struggled to find good housing and make ends meet, all in the name of "I'm not being a real dad because I'm too reliant on my parents" and the story just asks us to assume that premise is believable. That sort of angle could make for a personal conflict about what it meant to be a "real dad" and what the value of suffering is, but this story clearly wasn't setting up for that given how we're just expected to roll with Tyler's backstory.

When Tyler basically ghosted Jamie during the game and didn't even thank him for the seats, I had to give up. First of all, nobody fucking forced him to bring his three year-old to the late hockey game (as if that was a good idea in the first place) so it was yet another hole in the "Tyler wants to be a good dad" thing considering he should've known that Rowan wasn't going to have a good time there and acted accordingly. Second, he was super rude by not answering any of Jamie's texts the next day. I get he was tired the day of, but not responding with at least a freaking thank you was soooo annoying. And three, why the hell was Jamie still hung up on Tyler at that point? He basically got ghosted. Even if he knew what the reason was, it was weird how he automatically just assumed it was his fault rather than take some offense at Tyler's silence (or at least assume that Tyler wanted nothing to do with him after). The fact that he was the one to go chase after Tyler the next day instead of having Tyler come up and apologize for being standoffish was boggling.

TL;DR: Tyler's backstory didn't make sense and he was super annoying. Jamie being written to not see Tyler in any sort of bad light is basically instalove and I'm not down to read more of that.

ARC Review!!!
This book was very good! If you want a book that has a good amount of hockey content mixed in with some spice this is the perfect book for you. Tyler is a single dad to the sweetest little boy Rowan. He works two jobs just to get bye. Jamie is the captain of his hockey team and never thought someone like Tyler would be the guy for him. This book follows Tyler and Jamie navigating a friendship that quickly turns into a relationship around two busy schedules and the demands of parent hood.

Damnnnnn, Tyler is one sexy MF. His confidence and ease with of all the ways he breaks with trad-masc norms?! Chef’s kiss 💕🧑‍🍳💅. Otherwise - a sweet and sex-positive romance between a single (sexy) dad and an adorable hockey captain with a moustache. Not ground breaking but enjoyable nonetheless. The cover is excellent - it’s so rare for an MM book to have a cover that actually reflects the contents of the book (the bar is on the floor 🙄) and this one captures the two MCs beautifully. Interesting decision to only include the left hand of the kid though 😂.

Where do I even start?! I had been looking forward to reading this and was not disappointed. I fell immediately in love with them both. Jamie and Tyler are perfection. They did not have a conventional meeting, but they were exactly what each other needed. Their struggles and insecurities felt real, and their growth was genuine and purposeful. Nothing about the pacing or writing was used to create conflict purely for the sake of having it, and their relationship was believable and heartwarming. The spice was spicing but was romantic, intimate, and fun. Also, tattoos, piercings, protective but in a sexy way, men in lace?! YES. Making Time is a beautiful, queer love story I will definitely be rereading atleast once a year. Thank you for the opportunity to enjoy this ARC!

I don't know, guys. Maybe I should just stop reading for a while, because all of my most anticipated books of 2026 have turned out to be soul-crushing bores so far, and the world is a dumpster fire right now, and I simply don't think I can handle anymore disappointment at this time.

First things first.

This was sweet as hell 🩵

It wasn't really THAT angsty - which I appreciate very much ( just wasn't in the mood for it, so this was the perfect read for me 😽).

Tyler is just amazing. He's having a hard time being a single dad, completely on his own (by choice, but I got why he did what he did).

And then there is Sully.
They met when he is at his "lowest" - which, really, isn't true... he's just a bit lost for a moment there...

They meet at just the right time for each other. 🩵

I loved them each separately, and even more so together.

They are made for each other 🩵🩵🩵
Their story is about loving, caring, being patient and - just - making time together, even when life seems difficult.

So, yeah.

I loved it.

Why just 4,5 ⭐️ you may ask?

Well, it wasn't written in my favorite POV.
I know - this might seem a bit petty - BUT - I would have loved it so much more if it was written in First Person POV.... sorry 😞

This flew by, it was such a cute read!!!! Both main characters were extremely easy to like. Sully was struggling with self-confidence and trying to find himself as a captain, while Tyler was a single dad doing the best he could to take care of his son and give him a good life.

I loved how real and kind-hearted the characters felt. They instantly made you want to root for them.

Sometimes I have issues with the way toddlers are written in books. They can feel unrealistic for the sake of the story, and I always find myself wondering, “Would a toddler actually act like this or say these things...?” But I completely loved little Rowan 🩷 He was absolutely adorable and had such a true little-kid vibe. He helped move the story along and played an important role, all while staying realistic and true to his three-year-old self.

All the side characters were great too, and I loved the sense of community and family they created.

All in all, this was a great read. Cozy, fun, real, and full of love🥹
