The summer I turned fifteen, I killed someone— Or at least, I thought I did. Either way, my actions sparked a chain of events that sent me running. From the murder, from Camp Agonde, from my father’s abusive clutches, and even from the three boys who owned my heart.
Two summers ago, an unexpected phone call brought me back to Agonde where I discovered the three boys I left behind transformed into men who were ready to let me burn. Until a terrible accident started to change their minds, and the spark between us finally caught fire. Then my father caught up with me.
One year ago, I returned to camp to escape my family all over again. But when my evil twin brother followed me, escaping became impossible. Only this time around, I had my men by my side. Well, two out of three of them anyway. When a pair of campers disappeared without a trace, it exposed a pattern of missing children that stretched further back than any of us realized and connected our families in ways we never could have predicted. Our discovery put us all at risk, but it was Cole that paid a horrible price.
Now, the four of us are headed back to Agonde for one last summer. This time, it’s not about money or an escape. It's about exposing our families’ crimes and ensuring that no one else suffers the way we have. For our plan to work, the four of us will have to face our past and reckon with our future. We’ll either fly together or fall apart.
Many years ago, four naïve kids stood on a beach and promised each other forever. I’ll do anything to ensure we get it, even if that means taking down my brother, my father and everyone else that stands in our way. I’m Toni Barrett. They are Xavier Rothberg, Brennon Grace, and Cole Michaels.
And by the time last sun rises in August, we’ll be the ones left standing.

Happy Friday, homies!
The first book of this series (The Boys of Summer) was my fifth ever ARC read. I cannot tell you how grateful and appreciative to this author for giving me an arc not only for this entire series, but trusting me with this amazing world you have built. Despite the dark themes of these books, you handled it with such care and love and I thank you for that. So thank you for the ARC of this book! 😊
If you choose to dive into the series, please take a look at the triggers. This is a very dark romance, it is handled with such care and compassion for those who have been through these situations. That care is something you can see in the way this author writes this story.
I left out a lot of what happens in the story in my review because I wanted to highlight the characters to encourage you all to dive into this series. This will be one of my favorite dark romance series of all time.

Girl. like, girl. I am genuinely at a loss for words. Finishing this series was such a bittersweet moment. While I am beyond happy that Toni, Cole, Xavier, and Brennon all got their hard-earned HEA, it still hurts to say goodbye to these characters. Closing this book felt like closing a chapter of my heart.
This final book picks up immediately where Hot July Moons left off and takes us on one last emotional journey as justice is finally delivered to those who caused so much pain throughout our characters’ lives. The ending was absolute perfection. I was fully sobbing—tears and emotional devastation—the whole thing.
To keep things spoiler-free, I want to talk about the characters individually, because they truly are the heart of this story.
Let’s start with Cole (our August). I’ll be honest, I hated him in book one. Like, genuinely thought I wouldn’t care if he didn’t make it into the final harem. I struggled to see how he could possibly redeem himself. And wow, I have never been so happy to be proven wrong. His redemption in this book was everything and more. Watching his growth, was incredibly moving and beautifully done.
Now, Toni—our FMC—my heart breaks and swells for her all at once. She endured so much across these books, and she deserved the space to heal that we finally get to see. Her journey of forgiveness, reclaiming her power, and healing not just from her family but from everything she was put through was powerful and deeply emotional. She is strength personified.
Xavi, our June. That man is so smart. His fierce, unwavering protectiveness over the family they’ve built together had me in a chokehold. He will stop at absolutely nothing to keep his people safe. He loves deeply, intentionally, and without limits, and it shows in every action he takes.
And last, but never least, Brennon (our July). He is the heart, the humor, and the warmth this family desperately needed after everything they endured. He brings light into the darkness, love into the pain, and kindness into every space he occupies. Truly the emotional glue holding them together.
Saying goodbye to these four hurts, but honestly, I don’t know if my heart could take them going through anything more. LA Robbins included a note at the end hinting that this universe isn’t over just yet, and let me tell you—I am seated, ready, and waiting for whatever comes next. As she already knows, I will be waiting for those sign ups. And I promise not to beg the PR company for an ARC again, haha!!
Back at Camp Agonde, Last Sunrise in August picks up after the explosive cliffhanger of Hot July Moons, and the tension never lets up. LA Robbins delivers a dark, intense finale where justice is brutal, earned, and deeply satisfying. Toni, Xavier, Brennan, and Cole return united, focused, and ready to make those who failed her finally pay.
Toni After everything Toni endured—especially the betrayal by those meant to protect her—her strength is nothing short of powerful. She’s raw, resilient, and unapologetic, refusing to let her trauma define or silence her. Watching her reclaim her power and take control of her story is both heartbreaking and empowering, and her growth across the series feels fully earned.
Xavier Calm, calculated, and terrifyingly brilliant, Xavier is always ten steps ahead. His strategic mind adds an intense edge to the story, and when everything starts to unravel, it’s clear he’s the one holding the pieces together. Built for darkness, yet fiercely protective.
Brennan Brennan brings heart and humor when it’s needed most. His sharp sarcasm and perfectly timed jokes lighten the heaviest moments without ever undermining their weight. He grounds the story with warmth, loyalty, and emotional depth.
Cole Cole’s growth is one of the most satisfying arcs in the book. After struggling earlier in the series, seeing him step up with confidence and clarity makes the payoff worth the wait. His unwavering loyalty to Toni and the group completes the family dynamic beautifully.
The revenge is methodical, deserved, and never rushed, and the found family trope shines as their chosen people stand unwaveringly together. The world expands in meaningful ways—it feels like a goodbye, but not the end.
Last Sunrise in August is dark, emotional, and incredibly satisfying. A finale that honors every bond, every trauma, and every hard-fought victory. If you love dark romance, found family, and perfectly executed justice, this is one you don’t want to miss.
Last Sunrise in August is a dark, emotional, and satisfying finale that brings Toni, Xavier, Brennan, and Cole back to Camp Agonde for one final summer—this time united and ready to expose the truth.
Toni’s journey is raw, powerful, and unapologetic. Watching her reclaim her strength after everything she’s endured feels earned. Xavier remains calm, calculated, and fiercely protective, Brennan brings heart and well-timed humor, and Cole’s growth rounds out the found-family dynamic beautifully.
This is a big book, and while it absolutely delivers, it’s one I’d recommend taking your time with. It easily could have been split into two, but reading it in chunks helps you fully enjoy the story without feeling overwhelmed.
The revenge is methodical, the emotions run deep, and the payoff is worth it. A strong, impactful conclusion for fans of dark romance and found family. 🌑🔥
This one was packed full of every loose end getting tied up imaginable.
I’m glad everyone got what they deserved but it felt like a lot. At one point I thought I was almost done but then I saw I was only 69% into the book.
It was just a lot with all 4 of them getting their ending. And none of them really had any experience with getting their retribution. If you will. There felt like a shoe horn to make things happen that otherwise couldn’t have.
It felt like a lot this book. Might should have been 2 books so it didn’t feel so overwhelmingly rushed to end it all.
Thanks so much for giving me the opportunity to ARC read this novel.
Loved this book. Loved how intense it was. It held a hint of danger and chaos. This was well written and held a lot of depth. The characters were beautifully done. They were very easy to relate with. Feel their emotions, see the actions. I loved a book that pulls you in and kept you captivated throughout, and this one did exactly that. And I absolutely loved how thick this book was. I love a story that can go into so many pages and not get boring or use a lot of fillers. And this book delivered everything I hoped for in a book.
The Last Sunrise in August brings the whole gang back to Camp Agonde. This was the perfect ending to this dark, twisted series. There were so many twists and turns that kept me up late reading well past my bedtime. From the start of this series, I always said that while I read, I could picture myself right there in the story. Book 3 was no different. There was heartbreak, reliving childhood trauma and vengeance. All wrapped up with a satisfying ending. I'll just leave it at that.
I look forward to reading more of the books from L.A. Robbins!
What an ending to this series. These books were, at times, incredibly difficult to get through but the themes of resilience, found family and overcoming were huge and reminded me why I love reading. I'm definitely keen to follow more of Robbins work, and can't wait for the next series.
Why I got it: I was lucky enough to be on the ARC team for both book 1 (June Fires Burn) and book 2 (Hot July Moons). You better believe I was so quick to apply for book 3!
Why I read it: As with most ARCs, the need to get my review done before publication was the primary driver, but it was put off by having to finish one I was already reading. Believe me, I was eager to dive in!
What I liked: In book 1, the book focuses mostly on Toni. In book 2, we get a more balanced book with the boys, but it is still heavily Toni-weighted. This book, though, I feel we REALLY got to understand the boys and their relationship with Toni and each other. This is so well done and left me feeling very satisfied at the end. The best part? All the revenge, all the payoff, and NO pregnancy HEA. It’s definitely an HEA! I also really appreciate the fact that we get a better full recounting of the past in this one too. Well done, LA!
