Pandora's Heir

Rate this book
For centuries, the women of my line have fed the Forbidden Gate, keeping Olympus sealed and the world safe.

But the Gate is cracking. And four immortal princes are waking behind it.

Dragon. Wolf. Bear. Phoenix.
Chained to the Gate I guard. Sworn enemies of my bloodline.

They whisper that I'm not a Keeper, I'm a jailer. That the gods aren't monsters, but allies. That everything I've been taught is a lie built on betrayal.

Every communion deepens our bonds.
Every touch cracks the seals wider.
Every truth they offer makes my certainty crumble.

The Keepers call me corrupted. Fanatics hunt me as the key to apocalypse. The princes call me their mate. When armies converge and the Gate screams for freedom, I'm forced to choose between my oath and my heart...

And I choose fire.

I wasn't chosen to keep the Gate closed.
I was chosen to break it.

Let the old world burn.

Understand...when you start this book you are getting stage setting and world building in spades. I wasn't sure that I'd enjoy it once I realized that there was really not a ton of drama going on, but I devoured this book and it left me eager for more.
Aria is a Keeper. She sacrifices a piece of herself every day to the Gate to maintain it. To keep the "monsters" that "lurk" behind it in chains. But what if...everything she's ever known and been told...is a lie? When she begins to truly question...deep in her heart...the Gate listens...and change is sparked. Those locked behind the Gate begin to reach out. Not to twist and corrupt, but to reveal the truth about what it is that she has been doing for all these years...and her entire line has done...for generations.
This book is absolutely gripping and had me eager for answers. The tension is delicious and the romance is slow-burn at it's best. You get delicious revelations and when the drama hits? It elevates the story to the next level. This author has written quite the introduction to a new series, so I'm eager to see where things go from here.

Unique story

This is such an amazing well written story. You get to a point where there is so much you need to have the answers to that you are sucked in turning pages as fast as you can. Aria has been taught all her life she has one duty and she must obey no matter what. Even as a child she questioned and had her small acts of rebellion, keeping flowers for faded glimpses of beauty. This book is definitely worth it.

I really enjoyed this story and the fact it played lightly on the Greek gods and goddesses. I think everything was well detailed and described and the ending was very good , I will keep my eyes peeled for the next book to see where the adventures leads.

I'm a sucker for mythology. I absolutely love it. Pandora is a widely known myth that's been retold over and over. Well, Helen Scott decided to shake things up by expanding upon the original myth, and it was fabulous! I love how detailed Helen got with the story. An organization built on lies and manipulation, a cult hellbent on chaos, four enigmatic supernatural princes held prisoner, and one keeper at the center of it all. Talk about enemies to lovers.

Aria's entire life is centered on her duty as a keeper, but I have to give her credit for breaking away and questioning things she's thought to be true. Change is hard, and Aria certainly had her fair share of struggles, trying to balance the wants of everyone. It's a lot for anyone. I understood how hard it was for her to shake off what she had been told for her entire life. The princes were something else, too. In the beginning, I couldn't tell if they wanted to kill her or kiss her. They proved it to be a kiss when they were willing to look past what Aria was (a Keeper) to who she is as a person. This is a slow burn. I'm hoping that in the next book, the romance picks up a bit.

This book was incredibly good. Although I'm not going to lie, this book will sort of break your brain with the metaphysical bending of worlds and pure chaos, but it's so worth it. It was so unpredictable. I kept wondering what would happen next. And what did happen next shocked me. Helen threw a couple of really great plot twists; I had no words. Things were a little complex in the beginning, but level out once you get used to it. The conclusion of the story felt like that could have been it; however, the story is far from over. Pandora's Heir is just the first book in the series, which I'm super excited about. Pandora's Heir is a must-read for romantasy lovers.

This is my first Helen Scott novel and I have to say it was an enjoyable read. A mix of otherworld fantasy mixed with Greek mythos

We start the story with Aria, duty bound and traversing the same path that she has taken every day for years to a gate where she spills her blood to protect the world from monsters that will destroy the world if she relents, but this day is different, after years of the same rote words and actions the gate reacts to her ritual and nothing will be the same.

Aria’s life has never been her own. She is a tool used by the monastery in which she was born and raised as was her mother and her mother all the way to Pandora herself. A chaste, strict, and duty bound life, she has very little to show for it but a perpetually healing scar on her hand and a collection of pressed flowers which she would be punished for possessing.

I think the story had an interesting premise. I enjoyed this take on Pandora and the world. For me, however, some of the thoughts and decisions that Aria made gave me pause. She would make a decision and then, in the next breath, revert back to her original position. One might say this was due to everything she had been made to believe, and that in itself can be hard to stray from. I understand indoctrination, but this was not something that even seemed to feel right to her, so the flip-floppity behaviour was just difficult for me personally.

Other than that, I think the book was good and I am looking forward to the next one to see if the edges that rubbed me the wrong way have smoothed down and see how the story develops as I think it has good bones.

Pandora’s Heir feels like opening a familiar legend and discovering there’s an entirely new story hiding inside. This book doesn’t just borrow from mythology — it reshapes it, adding emotional weight, danger, and curiosity in a way that feels modern and immersive.
What really pulled me in was the sense of responsibility hanging over the main character, Aria. She’s been raised to believe her role is fixed, necessary, and unquestionable — and watching that belief begin to crack is where the story truly shines. The tension isn’t just external; it’s internal, rooted in duty versus truth, obedience versus instinct. That struggle made her feel real, not just “chosen.”
The worldbuilding is quietly confident. Instead of overwhelming you with lore dumps, the story reveals its secrets piece by piece, which made everything feel more mysterious and earned. There’s a constant hum of unease — like something ancient is watching, waiting — and it kept me turning pages just to see what truth would surface next.
I also loved how the beings tied to the central conflict weren’t painted in simple shades of good or evil. There’s complexity there, and that moral gray area adds depth and intrigue without forcing the reader to take anything at face value.
By the time I reached the end, it was clear this is only the beginning of a much larger story — and one I genuinely want to continue. Pandora’s Heir sets the stage beautifully, blending myth, emotion, and suspense into a strong series opener that feels fresh rather than recycled.

This is the first time reading a book from Helen Scott and I have to say I loved it. Pandora's Blood Was vary fast paced and I couldn't put it down. It contains lots of Action, Self Sacrifice with Blood Rituals and so much more. I loved how the FMC solved or changed the rules in the end.
The characters were awesome and there was one that gave me a surprise with her actions to the FMC that I didn't see coming in the end. The FMC as she works her way through her duties has made herself one goal. Find the truth as to why she must do the same thing every morning. A Blood Ritual that maintains the chains of Pandora's cage which holds four prisoners.
**This is a slightly different version of Pandora's Box:
The theory of Pandora's Box, from Greek mythology, explains the origin of suffering in the world through the first woman, Pandora, created by Zeus as punishment for humanity after Prometheus stole fire; her curiosity led her to open a jar (mistranslated as a box), releasing evils like disease, death, and vice, leaving only Hope (Elpis) trapped inside, a cautionary tale about temptation, curiosity, and the necessity of hope for survival.
In Helen's version Pandora's Blood is majorly different as there is no box or jar that is opened but a seal and chains to be remade into something better.
So, if you enjoy Action, Surprising Plot Twists, Lies and Intrigue, A heart's Mission then you need to read Pandora's Blood.

Pandora’s Blood is a story you feel from the first chapter. Aria carries the full weight of her bloodline as the keeper of the gate, and that sense of duty sits over the entire book in a quiet, constant way.

When the gate begins to fail, the tension shifts fast. The routine she’s always known cracks open, and the arrival of the four imprisoned men changes the energy completely.

Their scenes bring danger, curiosity, and a magnetic pull that keeps the pages moving — though I did find myself wanting a bit more emotional depth and connection between all the characters to really anchor those dynamics.

Aria’s journey is still the heart of the story. Her frustration, fear, and stubborn determination feel grounded and human as her world starts to unravel.

The myth‑meets‑modern vibe works well, giving the book atmosphere without slowing the pace. Personal stakes lead, with the supernatural elements building around them.

It does end on a cliffhanger, so if you’re someone who hates waiting, you may want to hold off until Pandora’s Bite is out.

Tropes
• Chosen‑but‑not‑chosen one
• Four mysterious imprisoned men
• Fate vs. free will
• Hidden power
• Legacy burden
• Slow‑burn tension
• Forced proximity (supernatural)

Trigger Warnings
(General guidance — check author for full list)

• Violence & supernatural threat
• Imprisonment themes
• Death & loss
• Familial pressure / generational duty

Spice 🌶
Low — slow build, emotional tension over heat.

This book is wonderfully claustrophobic. OK, I know that sounds like a contradiction, but hear me out! The majority of this book takes place in the cloisters and sanctorum where Aria lives to - she thinks - maintain the bonds that keep the peace. As she, and the reader, learn the truth, you can feel everything closing in around her until the outcome feels inevitable.

Aria is a fantastically strong heroine, tasked with a duty to serve her bloodline, but finding questions and learning if this is the right thing or not. Her antagonist, Natalia, is delightfully evil in a way that feels very human. And as for her men? They are appropriately underwritten here, in a way that makes sense and will allow them to shine in the rest of the series.

The action in this book is full on, with moments of respite that pay off later in the story. Everything is entwined and interconnected, which only adds to the claustophobia.

The book finishes at the perfect point, answering a lot of questions, but setting up plenty for the rest of the series, and I can't wait for the answers!

Helen Scott does it again. She delivered us into an amazing world where we are following Aria who is a direct descendant of Pandora. She has this beautiful personality that is caring, kind, and a thirst for knowledge and understanding. We see her feeding the gate where the for Princes are chained to it. Each prince has a very distinct personality that is felt throughout the story. The story is packed full of lies and betrayals. We journey alongside Aria as she tries to navigate the challenges and changes that are taking place. She is not sure who to trust or the path she needs to take. We quickly are pulled into this story and we do not want to let go until we find out what happens. The story is extremely well written and developed. It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The ending of this book definitely has me excited to see what is going to happen next. It is absolutely a fantastic read.

I’ve read a lot of this author’s books, and she honestly never misses for me. Pandora’s Heir pulled me in fast and didn’t let go. It has that same immersive, sink-into-the-world feeling I always get with her stories, where you look up and realize you’ve been reading way longer than planned.

This book made me feel unsettled in the best way. Questioning everything, doubting who to trust, slowly realizing the truth might be way messier than what you were raised to believe. Watching Aria start to think for herself instead of just doing what she’s been told was one of my favorite parts. That shift felt powerful and emotional, not rushed.

It’s more slow burn and tension than outright spice, but the anticipation works. By the end, I was fully invested and ready to see what happens now that Aria has chosen her own path.

Another win from an author I already love. I’m absolutely reading whatever comes next.

This was really good and I loved the different take on Olympus and the God's.

This started out with our FMC conducting her normal rituals that she's done (albeit forced) for the past 5 years to keep the "evil" locked away behind the Gate. However, things aren't adding up, namely the 4 voices of the demigod princes (Kaelan, the Dragon, Elias, the Phoenix, Thane, the Bear, and Flynn, the Wolf).

I loved how the book showed a natural progression with the FMC and her journey to find out the truth behind the rituals and why the princes were really locked away so very long ago by Pandora. This wasn't insta love but, the bonds grew along with the FMC finding who she truly is.

I felt such empathy for the princes who were locked away for so long and with what they had to endure. I won't say anymore so as not to spoil anything but, I really loved the MMCs!

I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves fantasy, some romance, with a lot of plot!

I can admire a person who chooses to look past the obvious, to find out what’s true for themselves. Aria, our fmc in “Pandora’s Blood” may have been raised with certain believes, she’s brave enough to question them. And even better: she doesn’t just believe the next person to tell her something different, but decides to hunt for the truth herself. It makes her into a wonderful fmc.

Even though this is a fantasy story, with powers and Gods and a prophecy, the whole vibe still hits close to home. Characters desperate for power and willing to destroy others over it, creating a false narrative so people will believe they are the good guys, … It sounds a little familiar, which makes it only better to see someone willing to hunt for proof. I hope we’ll see her destroy them all throughout the rest of this series, alongside her four destined men.

This was different from the author’s previous work; I found myself sucked into to this microcosm of a world. This world built on strict standards of belief or lies and betrayal.
With the Princes imprisoned, Aria gets to do all the action stuff, she is definitely no damsel, and she understands the choices more than they do.
I loved to hate the villain, she was sharp, clever, and utterly ruthless. Prepared to do anything to keep the status quo. I got a little confused over the Khaos army, I understand what they wanted but not why.
I would’ve liked more interaction with the Princes, and some spice, this is very Young Adult, I like slow burn if the tension is there, I didn’t feel like that spark of yearning was in their relationships.
I did think that this was a standalone, it easily could be, but it will be interesting to see where this story goes in the next book.

This is such a fun twist on the classic Pandora myth! I truly admire how vibrant and real the world she built here is! The worldbuilding is truly fantastic, and the characters are incredibly multifaceted and easy to enjoy reading about.
The tension between Pandora and the Princess, that find line between lust and hate. It was fantastic to read! Watching all of them work to overcome deeply ingrained beliefs about duty, and sense of self. Pandora has so much trauma to work through. I sympathies with how incredibly difficult it must be for her to challenge absolutely everything she’s been raised to believe. Everything her predecessors believed, for millennia.
This book is equal parts plot and romance, both incredibly well written and very intriguing. I absolutely couldn’t put it down. It’s deep, it’s thought provoking, and just the right kind of heart wrenching.
Absolutely stunning!

I really enjoyed this story to me it was such an example that when you pick something, or group to be the enemy, mankind loses it humanity. Which cause a division and then the fabric of community is lost and you end up fighting against one another, taking sides. When you join as one, it is like the old adage, “united you stand, divided we fail.” This story tells how for 1000 years a lie, myth what ever was told over and over to justify a cruelty so a small group could control the power. And how it just took one to stand up and make a change that would bring forth the truth so that people would know what they were living and working for clarity. You will really enjoy this story of the keeper of the gate and how four ancient consciousnesses Kaelen, Malachi, Thane and Flynn to change corruption and the lies.

This book has lived in my head rent free for the past week. I fell in love with Aria! I love her curiosity and how she questioned her "duty." She caught my attention from the first page, and kept it through the whole story. The play on Pandora's box was a wonderful concept and was done so well! The princes all had distinct personalities, which I really enjoyed, and they all had their own individual pull for Aria. Kaelen, the dragon, and his dragon fire that she could access, was the main focus for this one, and I hope the others get stories as well! I love shifters/gods, and this was no exception! A dragon, a bear, a wolf and a phoenix, some of my favorites! This book had romance, suspense, action, and plenty of intrigue, and I read it all in one sitting because I could not stop myself! I can’t wait for the next book!

We start of with the story of Aria she is the descendant of Pandora and is expected to bleed and stand as a guardian of a long ago sealed door to 4 princes of Olympus for crimes against humanity. These four princes are Kaelen the Dragon, Thane the Bear,
Flynn the wolf and Elias the Phoenix. She has been raised by people who guard this gate and expect her to do as they say with no regard to what she wants. As we get further into the story it seems like she is used and manipulated because of her bloodline and as we learn more we find out that what we see and what Aria thinks is truth might not be so.
I really enjoyed this twist of Pandora’s box and Olympus as I am a huge Greek god buff and love reading any and all stays with them. I’m very e cited to see how the next book unfolds and see how this story turns out. Right now we are left in a cliffhanger and I need the next book.

This book was fantastic. I could not put it down. Aria is the last in her family line of gate keepers Ponderos. She has been taught all her life that she is the keeper of the gate and sacrifices herself every day giving blood to the gate. To keep four beings imprisoned. Natalia is the high Kepler and keeps everything in absolute order in the sanctorum by any means necessary even death. After a while she starts to doubt things. And it causes the gate and the seals to crack. They were able to change the gate into something different even though they are still trapped. That traitor though…mind blown is all I will say. I totally did not see that one coming.
I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

Absolutely loved this book! It was a page turner for sure! I didn't want to put it down.
This is a reverse harem and second chances! Aria is a strong independent FMC. Aria is part of a bloodline responsible for keeping Gods locked up in this other world by using her blood as a sacrifice. All Aria's life, she has been taught not to question, feel and be obedient. Aria is the last of her bloodline. Aria has to discover secrets that have been hidden and that the sanctuary doesn't want any one to know! They got power by stealing it from the gods that they locked up. Suspense, drama and heat is amazing! I love the ending of book 1 and can't wait to see what Olympus has in store for everyone in book 2!

As a direct descendant of Pandora, it is Aria's duty as the last Keeper to keep the Forbidden Gate closed, ensuring that the monsters of Olympus do not break free.

Only Aria notices that the Gate is fracturing, hears the princes she is meant to contain waking, and soon learns that everything she thought was true about the Gate and her duty is built on lies.

Holy cannoli Batman!!! This was so freaking good yall! I'm a sucker for anything mythology based, and Pandor'a Heir was such a fun twist on that. Plus, I knew going in this was going to be fantastic, because Helen has never disappointed me with her fantasy books—and I was right 😏😏

If you're looking for something that will hook you from the start, and take you on one heck of ride, I highly recommend!

Helen Scott did it again. She has managed to write a story that draws toy in and keeps you there until the last page is read.

This Pandora retelling is fantastic. Aria is the last in Pandora's line. Every morning, she performs a ritual with her own blood, at the gate that hold 4 prince's in chains.

She is inquisitive, kind, intelligent, and she wants the truth. When what she's always been told doesn't line up, she finally questions everything.

Kaelen is the dragon prince, Elias is the Pheonix prince, Thane is the bear prince and Flynn is the wolf prince. All have been chained behind the gate for a millenia.

With her inability to trust the people in her life, and the crazy Order of Khaos on the loose, Aria has her hands full. Will she follow her heart or her duty?

Helen gives us the fantastic new beginning to a new series! Aria is the last descendant of Pandora's line and she has been raised to bleed to keep 4 "monsters" trapped in order to save the world. However, she starts to doubt as the gate weakens and she begins to have visions of/with the 4 gods trapped by the gate. There's villains, evil cultists, good guys and just enough heat to keep you invested in the story. To find out how they get to the cliffhanger (despite some wicked plot twists,) dive into this wonderfully written book with complex characters and plot twists that keep your mind spinning and heart pounding! I loved reading this story and highly recommend it. Don't miss out on this book!!

Great start to a new series. Aria has spent most of her life, forced to bleed to feed the lock on an ancient prison, holding Gods from another realm. Raised in a culture where is life is all about sacrifice, without questions, Aria can't help questioning the story she's been told and the real purpose behind she and her ancestor's eternal sacrifice. She's soon to have her answers, as the lock begins to weaken and the Gods from within reach out to educate her on the real reason for their prison and why she has been enslaved to feed it. This is such an interesting spin on the tale of Pandora. There is plenty of action and intrigue. The spice is promising and I can't wait to see where it goes in the next book. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for more in the series.

Aria is the last of the pandora bloodline, last of the keepers who seal the prison for 4 monster who will destroy the world. At least that’s what they are told. When lies unravel and the truth starts to show, aria has no choice but to transform from rule follower to something else. This was a pretty decent book but I will say the repetitiveness was overwhelming. I can’t even tell you how many times I read something like and it was all happening and we were going to be free, and then hit with a not yet. Same with her transforming. It just became redundant and over used. Was I still invested in the book, of course. Will I read the next after that cliffhanger, absolutely. Yet I’m hoping for not as many repeated lines.

Pandora's Heir is the first in The Forbidden Gate series and it took a known myth and twisted it to something new and unique! With incredible world building and fun loving characters, this book is a must read for anyone interested in Greek lore and forbidden romances. Aria finds herself at the precipice of a choice. Born to keep the gate intact and the gods at bay to protect humanity as the last descendant of Pandora, when the gate cracks, she is surprised that monsters do not appear as she thought but four princes who want her: the dragon Kaelan, the phoenix Elias, the bear Thane, and the wold Flynn. The bond between these four princes and Aria deepens, and with just the tip of the start of their journey, I cannot wait to see what book 2 entails!

Anything to do with mythology, and I’m in. However, this book brought a breath of fresh air to the genre. Most books based on mythology are retellings of the stories we know and love. This pushed past that, and brought a whole new concept. It opens up so much in terms of story, being able to give us a look at further down the bloodlines of the famous stories we all know.
Aria is such a strong character. Raised essentially for 1 sole purpose, in what’s basically a dystopian religion. She has the strength to question what she’s doing, what she’s been raised to believe, and choose a different ending for herself. In doing so, she changes the lives of so many around her in ways she never could have guessed.
I’m so excited for the next book, and can’t wait to see what happens next.

Pandora’s Heir hooked me from the first chapter. A Keeper who bleeds every dawn to hold the gods of Olympus behind the Forbidden Gate? Such a fresh, intense concept.
Aria carries the crushing weight of her bloodline, and when the seals begin to fail, everything she’s believed starts to unravel. Instead of attacking, the four princes — the Dragon, the Wolf, the Bear, and the Phoenix — claim her. The tension is magnetic, leaning into slow-burn chemistry and emotional stakes over spice.
I loved the constant questioning of who the real monsters are. The myth-meets-modern vibe works beautifully, and that cliffhanger absolutely hurts in the best way.
Spice: 🌶 (slow build)
Tropes: fate vs free will, reverse harem, hidden truths
Bring on book two.
