The call of the Void remains as Sataou's world continues to expand around him.

An engaging, traditional cultivation series.
I went into a lot of depth in my book one review. But I will update on where I am on this series to this point. As engaged as I am with the story, I still feel unsatisfied.
I’m less unsatisfied with the robot-nature of the MC, we are finally, if painstakingly slowly, addressing this. I like the addition of the familiar(s) as ways to make our time from the MC’s perspective less robotic.
What really leaves me unsatisfied is the other character perspectives. I want more of these. The MC is basically a robot, so it’s actually refreshing to have other perspectives, I wish the time was more evenly divided between this other group and the MC.
I also enjoyed the lore around demon hunting, with the guilds and whatnot. I do think some of this world building leaves a lot of questions. Like why these super powerful cultivators allow these shenanigans. How come there’s no consequences for taking out sects when it seems they are part of the system to combat demonic cults? How these cults survive and thrive with such weak members. This goes back to the lack of context for how and why powers realms are distributed in this series. Opponents are all at or near the MCs level, how convenient.
I still absolutely loathe the chapter intros. At this point, they are beyond stupid. I guess it’s supposed to the be the MC in the future, but he just sounds like a know it all, whose advice is suspicious at best.
I don’t the way MC just kills indiscriminately. I know this is part of his arc or whatever, but it’s the absolute bottom of the barrel type of character arc. I want good guys to be good guys.
I will definitely continue this series as it is entertaining. As I’ve stated before, the author knows mostly how to engage the tropes of this genre in satisfying ways. They are tropes because it’s what we want after all.

Excellent reading!
We learn that Sataou AKA The Void, hasn't always been the cool, put together, old dude from Will of the Immortals series. He was once a confused, sometimes furious, sometimes icy young man, in a fight for his very soul. Two opposing forces pull him in different directions, and instead of balancing, they are vacillating back and forth in ever widening pendulum swings. What's a gold ranked demon hunting, cultivating, guild master to do? Kill them all, let the gods sort them out. Yup. That works.
Jay writes an excellent Hero's Journey, as described by Campbell. This is a wonderful arc in Sataou's Journey to becoming a hero. Or perhaps realizing he's been one all along...
Very few typos!!! I counted 2. That's as good as it gets without years to comb over every letter. Excellent notes in the back explaining armor, weapon, material, and cultivating terms. A character review would be very helpful, too. Great for all ages, but I would limit it to 14 yrs + for the violence. Great character development, world-building, plot pacing, etc. It was all awesome.
Great to buy or borrow, definitely going onto my re-read list. 10 out of 10 unicorns.

Don't get me wrong I really love this series (the other one moreso), but I have to say this installment didn't hit like the other previous installments.
This was decidedly darker. A little too much description on the blood and gore of each of his kills. Sataou is getting more and more difficult to like as his interactions with other characters is sooooo cold and leaves me uncomfortable and not in an engaging way. I understand the void and it's effects on him but his lack of empathy is rather jarring.
Also destroying a whole sect on the excuse of the elders or leaders being idiots whilst the newer more impressionable novices are lumped in with them leaves it feeling a little too cold on his part.
All that said the new powers and bindings are really interesting and towards the end, the journey of his colleagues (Ping, Sun Ai and Himlin) really do add some warmth to the tale. I recommend interspersing more of their tale to soften the tale a bit?

I enjoyed the book very much. Except there are two issues one the character having to fight with prosthetics, that just isn’t possible, believe me, I know. Secondarily the glossary at the end of the book is not necessary. As a reader I want more story than glossary. The author puts these same glossary’s at the end of every book, if we need to know these things we can refer to previous books or look them up on Google. The MC is likable. The world building is good. I just wish these two aspects would be taken care of so I can give the book a five star rating.

The MC is stupid
The MC does not think through any decisions. But the author wants you to think that he's cold and logical. Even when there no other influence. Power is at any cost,even if you become the person\people, you hate. Because Intent doesn't matter if you cause the same harm.

Wonderful story!
Santou is pretty busy! He's fighting the cultists, along with the Sun guild people. Believe me he gets even with both groups. His friends are on their way too. Overall it is a good story from beginning to end.

Awesome Prequel
It’s kinda weird knowing the end product of the MC. This origin story has been a very interesting entertaining read.
