I absolutely adore these books! Take a step back in time to the golden age of Hollywood. A time when the greats of the silver screen lived and breathed. A time I would love to have seen. Lily, our Converse wearing time traveller is still living her best life in 1950s Hollywood and working on sets of the biggest films of the time, with the biggest stars.
This is the 4th book in the series and this time Lily and the gang are on looking into the identity of the gossip columnist who is printing blind gossip about the people in the movie business. Lily doesn’t believe that it is a coincidence that so many Hollywood types are also dying or in accidents. But who would be doing this and why?
I love spending time in Hollywood with Lily and her friends, going to movie premieres attended by Marilyn Monroe, parties with James Dean and Barbara Streisand, and going to work with all the big stars. Time where the newspapers are the source of your news, pay phones are everywhere and the internet doesn’t exist. The music, the films, the fashions, what a wonderful period in history.
I hope that Lily gets to stay in the past for much longer, for more adventures to come.

If you’ve not heard me shouting and raving all about the ‘Hotel Hollywood Mystery’ series, where have you been? This series is one of my all time favourites! I picked up ‘The Mysterious Double Death of Honey Black’ last year and it became one of my top reads of the whole year. This cosy mystery, with light-adult Wizard of Oz streaks, was entirely up my street - Hollywood, Celebrities, Mystery - perfect! I quickly flew through the rest of the series, equally loving the worthy sequels.
I’ve been eagerly awaiting this fourth story in the series - Did it hit the mark for me? Well duuur, OF COURSE!!!!
Lily and the gang are back and find themselves embroiled in their deadliest mystery yet.
When a beloved star is found dead in a pool, Tinsel Town is shocked. Was it an accident? A letter was sent a week before he died warning of his upcoming misfortune but who sent it? And could it be connected to the mystery gossip column…
Lily (along with her friends Tilda & Louis) will do everything in her power to uncover the truth, even if it means risking her own death. But can she unmask the poison pen author and a ruthless blackmailer?
As a dedicated lover of this series I loved that the story gets going from the off. There’s no filler or long reintroductions - We’re just straight under the movie studios spotlights with our familiar characters and straight into a new mystery. This won much praise from me.

We’re back with a fresh story and new mystery, with a string of new diverse characters who you’ll need to watch out for! Actresses, Assistants, Directors and Gossip Columnists… be careful of who you trust!
Whilst the whole series is an adult one, this one ramps up the seriousness with blackmailing, murders, secret and the execution of it all was fantastic. It gave a fresh new spin on the series.
The storyline kept me guessing until the very last pages. I thought I’d had it sussed on a number of occasions, but was wrong until the very end!
I loved absolutely everything about this new chapter in the franchise. The concept, the characters, the mystery. It’s such a cosy yet thrilling book and I was thoroughly entertained.
I was saddened to learn Lisa is lightly closing the door on the series but perfectly understood the reasoning. And I must say, this was a brilliant way to wrap up the show… no spoilers, of course… but it really does end in a way that I’d have hoped for.

This is the 4th book in the series and, for full enjoyment, and cos they are all excellent reads, I really would encourage you to start at the beginning and read in order...
When we catch up with her, Lily is back in 1940s LA, working on the set of a new blockbuster film. Things are fraught with all the usual herding cats stuff you get when working with actors and directors etc, but there is also something a bit hinky going on. Someone is writing a blind gossip column with scary accurate detail. And, from what Lily and her gang manage to work out, the recipients of said gossip are dying in accidents... coincidence, or is there something very dark going on...?
I absolutely love this series. I love Lily, Tilda, Louis and the rest of the cast who, true to Hollywood, are occasionally larger than life, but never cross over into caricature. With so many people involved in show business, fingers start to point every which way - actresses, producers, directors, assistants, and all the other people involved in the production, hair, make-up. Even Tilda, as she is a journalist herself, gets daggers on occasion. Oh and even the odd real life person sneaks in to add a bit of faction into the mix. Honestly, the author is top notch with her attention to detail and research into the time and place in which the series is set. And indeed, the whole film industry...
And the mystery this time is a doozy, with all the aforementioned fingers a-pointing, I pretty much gave up trying to work it out ahead of time and just let the author guide me... Which wasn't a chore at all, as with absolutely no superfluous waffle or padding, the story got on with itself very well indeed, culminating in a wholly satisfying ending.
In fact, the only bad thing I can say is that it was hard once again to say goodbye to the characters at the end. And I now start the countdown until we can be reunited in the next book.

I was intrigued by the cover and the title of this book and I love a good murder mystery.
That said I didn’t realise this was not the first book in the series and having not read the others I was a little lost without knowing the back story of how Lily had been transported to 1950s Hollywood from modern times. I liked her modern language filtering through to the horror of her friends and colleagues and I liked that she also knew things about the stars she was meeting but kept them to herself.
I found the plot predictable identifying all of the twists before they occurred, even the ending wasn’t a surprise. That said it was an enjoyable read.

I had been SO excited to read this book ever since it was announced! I was delighted to spend some time with Lily, Tilda and Louis again and the Hollywood family. They’re funny, romantic, crazy and to be honest this is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. Usually I read more crime thrillers, but something about these characters is so dreamy. I did think the plot of this book was fairly predictable, as soon as we were introduced to a certain character I bet they would be the culprit and I was proven right. Still, love this series 🩷

I’ve always loved this series - particularly how real life events/people/places are woven through the fictional ones. There was slightly less of that this time around as it wouldn’t have really fitted with the story in the same way it has in others.
There was definitely a much darker tone to this one and seeing the less glamorous side of Hollywood.
Overall I loved the newest addition to the series and hope there is more to come!

It’s soooo good to meet up with Lily (working in the Beverley Hills Hotel slips and wakes in late 1940’s L.A) and the gang and some new faces but its the ones got to know (and love) was keenest to re aquatint with
This time Lily is working on the set of a new Blockbuster and someone is issuing ‘blind’ gossip about the stars and producers….meanwhile other stars and producers are having ‘accidents’ and some are dying….Lily is convinced there is more to it and the investigations begin
