For high school senior, Parker Montgomery, life is pretty damn awesome. With his good looks and easy charm, girls have always fallen right into his lap. Which FYI- is precisely where he likes them. Sure, it can be something of a curse, but it's one he thoroughly enjoys taking advantage of. And he can always rely on his best friend, Max, to have his back. A little added side bonus to that friendship- Parker is continually reminded by Max's rollercoaster of a relationship (the guy was, after all, stabbed with a spork) just as to why he has absolutely zero interest in being tied down. Parker's idea of a long term commitment consists of a few pleasant hours spent fooling around in a dark room. And then there's football. Yep, he pretty much lives and breathes it. Unfortunately for Parker, life is just about to nosedive before exploding into a fiery ball of flames because senior literature isn't going so well for him. And his teacher, Ms. Fisk (whom he not-so-lovingly refers to as an old bat) has called his parents to set him up with a tutor. With an ultimatum between raising his grade or sitting out for the season, Parker has no other choice but to begrudgingly meet with a tutor three times a week. Now throw in a girl who thinks he's nothing more than a walking STD and Parker suddenly finds himself doing all the chasing. If that wasn't enough to make him feel as if the world hasn't totally fallen off it's axis, this girl has relegated him to some strange realm called the friend zone. And he's pretty sure she doesn't mean friends-with-benefits either... Is it possible that Parker Montgomery has finally found the one girl worth changing for? Will he somehow be able to prove to her that even a man-whore like himself can be reformed? This is a Mature Young Adult Novel

This book was funny and I enjoyed it to some point. But the writing was distracting. The story is told from Parker Montgomery view and his thoughts go from one topic to another. The author will write one sentence and then the thought train that is Parker goes off topic to come back to the same sentence.
Way too much inner dialogue. I think I skimmed two pages to get from one outward spoken sentence to the next! It had potential... Dude POV, sports guy and semi needy girl, angst, humor... But it was just too over done.
I am so disappointed! I had really high hopes for this book. Male POV, cute relationship with the smart girl, spunky dialogue and then it just lost me...
Unfortunately there was just way too much inner monologue and innuendos in it for me. Parker just didn't seem like a real relatable guy. I've never met a guy that talked about his "Johnson" so much, how great he is in bed, or talked about him in the third person all the time. You can only hear, "me, Parker Montgomery . . ." so much before you just are over it. Over all the story was pretty cute.
Jordan was believable as a character although I think the storyline moved too fast and she was "In love" with Parker, before she even had a chance to "hate him" fully.
I wish there was less inner monologue, less chauvinistic comments, and more real feelings.
I really wanted to love this book, but I just couldn't get past Parker and all his stupidity.
This review is actually pretty late because; 1. I finished the book 2 days ago and 2. I can't remember what actually happened
I was kind of disappointed in this book. It didn't give me the cheesy butterflies in your stomach most cheesy books give me. There were a few cute moments that made it somewhat worth it but I probably wouldn't recommend it to anybody. Sorry:( Look, I have better things to do than trash talk books. This wasn't a bad book; it just didn't have any juice to it.
First of all, I didn't feel any chemistry between the characters and that made their relationship feel posed. There was no tension...AT ALL. Like as soon as they meet, Parker is all over her and ready to kneel, and it's no secret that Jordan likes him back. The only thing keeping them apart is Hartley (but don't worry-he's gone by like Chapter 5) and the fact that they're gonna have to have a long-distance relationship.
Second of all-I LOVE the name Parker Montgomery. Like that sounds like a damn fine guy but this book didn't live up to the synopsis. Like what a damn fine name that is <3
Honestly wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people feel the same way about this book because there wasn't any discrimination-just plain logistical issues that cut the tension.
The narrator kid is a bratty twerp, disrespectful of most females, and so full of himself it must hurt. He blows off the FMC to have sex with some other girl (he didn't but not for lack of trying). The story takes a darker turn when there is a violent incident. Later Parker reacts really badly at some false assumption of his and lashes out at her at a vulnerable time without giving her any chance to explain. So yeah, if he was a real person he wouldn't be all that. But he made me laugh more than once so I gave him four stars.
Eventually he does realise that he's a jerk and attempts to reform so maybe there is some hope for him.
Steam level: A lot of innuendo, less graphic action.
I wanted to like this more. I liked Parker's character at the beginning and I liked seeing his personal growth after meeting and later getting to know and developing feelings for Jordan. I liked his relationship with Max too, that was a nice friendship. I wasn't fond of his narration style after a while though. The asides got exhausting and made reading uncomfortable. I liked that the happily ever after was realistic. Their chemistry was good throughout and continued well at the end.
The male protagonist's voice was more 'Snarky Valley Girl' than 'Brawny Masculine Football Sex God'. The spelling mistakes and typos were a cringe-worthy level of bad. The inner monologues got repetitive. But I still gave it 5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ because there were some very funny moments in there. And because the last few chapters were super romantic. If you like YA Romance, it's worth a read...as long as you don't expect miracles from it, but are instead just looking for a fluff, fun read. And it's not at all PC, so keep that in mind, too. (I enjoyed that. I'm so sick of PC bullcrap.)
I love this type of book! It was emotional and angsty. I loved reading it and following their story. I couldn’t put it down. It’s been about a year since I last read it, so I need a refresher, but these new adult sports romances are some of my faves! I just love Jenn’s style and she will always be a one-click author for me!
Can I just tell you how much I loved this book! Loved the POV, the setting, the characters. I loved Parker and Jordan and their struggle with all thing High School.
This is the best story I’ve read from this author so far. Did a great job of keeping me reeled in, and it was always so tempting to turn the next page. Although cliché: dumb jock falls in love with smart girl that is tutoring him- it’s not a terrible thing because it takes a different path than other stories like this do.
Parker is hilarious. Absolutely loved his POV. It would have been nice to know what his romantic interest was thinking sometimes but sticking to one person worked quite well. Her character makes cunning remarks and sticks up for herself, but also has issues in her life that has made her fragile. The two of them have very relatable qualities and they shined. A hate-to-love story like this one always keeps me wanting more.
Which brings up the bad point. I felt like there should have been more. It’s noticeable there are scenes cut out that didn’t have to be. Not like it’s a movie or anything. The rest of the cast is forgettable but these two characters deserve a sequel. A happy and optimistic future was given to them but once they got together the story was over, which is a shame. A realistic approach was clearly taken here and because of that there was a disengaging feeling after reading it.
I give this book a 4/5, deducting points for lack of creativity and too much realism. Great characters and intriguing storyline, though.
To a high school boy, Parker, seems to have the perfect life. He is a great athlete, charming, good looking, and the girls seem to fall all over him. Parker takes complete advantage of the fact that girls fall all over him, but he is anti relationship. Parker has always watched his best friend Max’s relationship and knew he never wanted a relationship. Everything seems to be going great for Parker until his English teacher suggests to his parents that he needs a tutor so he can pass her class to play football. Forced into having a tutor, Parker soon realizes not all girls drool over him. His tutor thinks he is the scum of the earth, but he is determined to prove her wrong. In the process, he finds himself falling for his tutor, who only wants to be friends. Now the question is does he win her heart or is he the one left heartbroken?
I actually loved this book! It was a typical romance story with a “bad boy” and a “good girl.” I thought it had a cute story plot and it portrayed a lot of the different kinds of high school relationships. I thought the characters were very likable too. You could also relate to some of them and how they were feeling at different times in the book. Overall, I really enjoyed the book and I could not stop reading it!
There is some content warning in this book. As I said earlier, Parker was more of a friends with benefits kind of guy so there are some sex scenes. A lot of the high school kids in the book do party so some events take place at a party. Lastly, some of the characters do use some cuss words.
At first the story was funny and interesting but with the chapters followed, I found the writing not only confusing but quite empty - they have no real feelings behind the characters motives or in their dialogs. I found Jordan's character to be the most boring. Although I should praise how she was written at the start for speaking her mind and making her different, she began as someone unique but that only showed at the beginning. It then devolved into mysterious but empty character. And her friends' characters were also questionable. Max's character could have been developed more. Parker was funny and a bit charming but he had too much self-narration or talking about his thoughts too much than describing the actions or the scenery. As mentioned, it was also confusing. Too many metaphors or lewd innuendos/jokes. He's portrayed as a high school jock playboy doing a 180 degrees for a girl, that's a charming plot but his personality in the story was a bit flimsy and superficial. His "love" for her wasn't written very well. To me it didn't seem like he was certain on his motives and wasn't sincere enough.
Picked this book up after reading Matthew Thomas' "We Are Not Ourselves" which was quite long & thought provoking. So I need a respite of YA fluff reading and thought this might fit the bill. Ackkkkk nooooo... this was just downright terrible. It actually did start off pretty witty and I thought 'Ok not so bad' but then got terribly cliche and rather amateur sounding with all the "misunderstandings." I had hoped Jordan would stand strong against Parker -- at least for a good bit, but she lasted a quick minute. And Parker...ugh what can I say about Parker? Over the top and annoying. I got to about 60% of the book and started skimming because I couldn't take it anymore. The plot/character development was so minimal and superficial.
The whole wrapped up ending was rather silly. Seriously, he just 'studies' well for a few months and ends up with every life goal achieved. Yeah right.
good book!! This is a full guy POV wish is strange to come up, but I love looking inside Parker head.
This book was great not so different than what other YA books bring but it did have something's that can pull it apart. I like how their relationship didn't start right away. How she had someone already In her life when they meet. She wasn't a easy girl to crack if you know what I mean. He was used to easy girls she wasn't one. She had the perfect attitude she wasn't to bitchy or clinchy not so pure and saint. He became a great guy after he meet her. I am not a fan of the whole player changes ones he meet the one but I know is fiction so I can't complain a lot lol. I love how the HEA was a few months after and we got to know a bit more about their future life's.
I had some problems with the book. My first is that there wasn't enough of a backstory on the characters. I think the story would've been much better if it was told in Jordan's pov also. We never really got much info on her friends or on her parents besides the fact her mom is depressed and a drunk. I really liked the whole date scene though but I wish it was longer before we go to the epilogue. Another thing I didn't quite like was how you never really got to see jordan and Parker connect but they're in love. Too much time shifts and not enough scenes where they actually talked and got to know each other. Also the formatting was really bugging me. There isn't a page break in between chapters and that just annoys me. Overall the book is mediocre
I found this book really hard to like. I love reading young adult books and I really wanted to like this book. The first few chapters I was just hoping that it would get better but it didn’t. I spent the rest of the book skim reading and wishing it was over. The book is written in Parkers perspective and I just didn’t like him. I thought he was a jerk and just couldn’t relate to him. I spent most of the book rolling my eyes about how much Parker talked himself up and how he thought he was god’s gift to woman. I would not recommended this book, complete waste of time reading it.
I really wanted to love Confessions of a Heartbreaker. The storyline is cute and kind of funny, but the "confessions" get really exhausting to read. The entire story is in Parker's view point and it's basically running commentary of his thoughts. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. There was just a little too much of it. It ended up distracting from the cute love story going on between Parker and Jordan.
This was a cute quick read. There was nothing really special and what I would expect of a high school romance. There were times when I would have liked to hear more from Jordan's POV. Parker was your typical jock and he was still growing. If you are expecting something deep then this isn't the book for you. If you are looking for something light that doesn't really cause you to have to think then you should be reading this one.
Parker hooks up with many girls. As long as he doesn't get to close to him. He doesn't want a relationship. Parker's grades are dismal. His parent's decide he needs a tutor.
This book is in Parker's POV. I really enjoyed it. Parker really did grow up! Why not 5 stars? The small things added up like Parker always, "throwing up a little in his mouth." That saying was used way too much.
This is a fun beautifully written book about trying hard to start away from that which you know is dangerous. Roan King is the big man on campus with many fans and admirers. Ivy is a dancer recently back from studying abroad and has no idea about the Roan King phenomenon. This is a fun book that will have you chuckling. Jennifer's writing will have you hooked and clicking another of her books. Fantastic read.
I'm usually not a fan of high school romance, especially if it features underage sex but since the sex in this book is implied and not described, it wasn't too bad. What I really liked about this story was the whole book is written in the guy's perspective. Since he is such a womanizer and so upfront about it, it was interesting to read "his thoughts."
Really enjoyed this story, found Parker really funny at times and loved Jordan's attitude towards him. Glad it all worked out well for them. It was a refreshing change hearing the story from the male perspective alone don't think I have ever read a book that has done this. Would definitely read more by Jennifer sucevic.
Sooo. Why the infamous two stars on this one? Too. Much. Rambling. Just too much. I believed it had potential, and being a rambler (is that a word?) myself, i cannot blame Parker about it, but the dialogue was missing to the point I had to wait a couple of pages for the next line. So two dissaponited stars for this one.
Great book very easy to read, loved the characters but thought all the guy mind sex talk was a little overboard sometimes... We all get the point about how often guys think about sex
