Jeff Powell wants nothing more than to leave his adventures behind him, but he owes a debt and the Sisters intend to collect, no matter the cost. Stealing Cassie in exchange for Jeff’s returned imagination, he and Venn are enlisted to save Andvell from destruction.
With Brady’s mind being taken over by Talfyr’s, Jasmine unwell, and Jayden brooding over his broken heart, Jeff must rely on the strength of their friendship to find Cassie and save multiple worlds from being torn apart by growing rifts in the Veil.
As the doorway between worlds closes, Jeff needs to choose which side he’ll end up on, and what he’s willing to give up before the end.
Known for witty, vivid characters, Krista Walsh never has more fun than getting them into trouble and taking her time getting them out. When not writing, she can be found walking, reading, gaming, or watching a film – anything to get lost in a good story. She currently lives in Ottawa, Ontario
Good book for the ending of a trilogy. It ties up all questions and there is even the introduction of a new character. But,all in all it was an enjoyable read.
Book three had lost some of it's magic. I still enjoyed it a lot.
Jeff has a debt to the Sisters, and they collect it, as another threat is wreaking havoc in Andvell. The rifts that tear up the veil need to be fixed, at the same time, Jeff has to find Cassie. An old enemy rears his head (of does he).
Jeff need to choose where he wants to be, and making that choice is harder than he thinks.
This, the third book in the series, presented the culmination of the story, but also my hopes for the books. I started reading the series because I had a free download and it looked like an easy, non-challenging read. The first book was okay, just good enough to convince me to rad more By the end of the series I found that I had developed a connection to the characters and will miss them now that it is done. Evenlight, like the previous two books, remained non-challenging, I read it for pure entertainment, because we all need that now and then. It is easily the best of the three books, with a tighter storyline and a more fully developed plot. My only criticism is that the story is somewhat removed from that of the first two volumes, but that is a small criticism, particularly as it was a more cohesive story anyways. I will check out more books by this author.
I gave this series a shot, but it was not for me. It's a straightforward, easy fantasy adventure read, but I could never quite get on board with the story or characters and after book 1 the world building did not satisfy me.
As a book, I found this one the least exciting and basically read it to wrap things up. One of the things that bothered me was my inability to connect with the characters. I'm not into mean sarcasm without purpose, so unnecessary ribbing grows dull fast. There are also multiple romances going on, but it's not clear to me how those developed. The most developed was Jeff and Cassie, of course. Then there's the fact that Jeff is an author in his own fantasy world, so why is he never excited or trying to affect change because it's literally his only power, and if he is so reluctant then I'd like more reason than because the characters told him not to or because he was stuck in the world and therefore his power is considered moot. You never know until you try! The world has paper and writing utensils, so why didn't that ever come up in all the books?
And then the whole thing with returning to Andvell to speak with the Sisters. Considering Jeff's track record for visits, why does it occur to no one but Venn to actually pack or prepare anything and even then she doesn't really bring anything? For a fantasy author who outlines and a girlfriend who appears practical (though we know nothing about her actual background), no preparation was made for this adventure. I am also disappointed that the one character I came to like turned out to be a side character, , and only appeared in this book briefly.
Also, after taking note of how nicely edited the previous two books were, I had to raise a brow as to why this book wasn't. The typos are small at least, but they were there to my surprise.
Like book 2, I was still not convinced or understanding what is meant by imagination. This lack of explanation comes up in other instances, such as when Venn compares Jeff's world to her's and Jeff has nothing to say about each place's pros and cons. So getting his imagination back didn't seem to help him much?
I am not one who writes lengthly reviews. So, if I sit down and put fingers to keyboard, you know that a book had an impact.
I enjoyed the trology immensely, and I was very pleased with how everything wrapped up (well, except for things that had to happen. Doesn't mean I have to like them, but). I am glad that I was introduced to Krista's work and will be picking up some of her other series as well.
I finally read book 3 of this trilogy and it didn't disappoint. I won't give any thing away but if you like fantasy you will love this. You have to start at book one though or you will be lost. Looking forward to reading Krista Walsh again.
Book 3 was a fun read and has a great plot and character development. The overall series was a fun read and had a few twists and turns to keep me interested.
This was a enjoyable end to the series, spoiled by the end which went on and on and on. I ended up skimming through the last pages to avoid falling asleep.
It was hard to figure out where this story was headed, so it was a lot of fun to have it all tied up with a neat little bow. Creative, surprising and satisfying.
The writing kept this story in a close and simple setting, and even though the threat could have been world-consuming, it felt very local. Jeff’s story was simple –to find Cassie, and he was more of an engaging character because of it. They move together from one location to another as a pack, for days at a time, and the answers are simple. I think the point was more to enjoy the characters, which I did, but at the expense of a more complex world. Ven was always funny, especially her banter with Jeff. The others were nicely distinct, but barely registered as more than that, as the dialog could have been significantly improved. There was potential romance all around, and it was fun to get a peek inside a literary world, even though it took a lot of time to get nothing done. Unfortunately, the solution turned out to be a non-solution, though I admit the author did a good job of sidelining Jeff so that the mystery was preserved until the end. Only there wasn’t much mystery, just a group of inept villains, making the climax a bit weak.
In the third, and final book of the Meratis trilogy, Jeff Powel finds himself once again in Andvell, the fictional land of his best-selling novel series. Cassie and Venn have decided it’s time to take Jeff back to Andvell. For the most part, things are going well for the three of them, except the Jeff can no longer write, and it’s making him miserable. After much convincing, Jeff agrees to go back to Andvell to get back his imagination back. It’s the thing the three sisters took from him the first time he was there, in exchange for the key to free Cassie. When they get there though, things don't exactly go to plan. Jeff does get his imagination back, but the sisters take Cassie from him in exchange. What he thought would be just a quick trip to get back his imagination and say hello to his characters turned friends, quickly turns into much more. He will need all the help he can get if he wants to find a way to save not only the woman he loves, but the whole of Andvell, again.
Evenlight, by Krista Walsh is a book filled with twists and turns, that kept me guessing to the end. After enjoying the first two books as much as I did I had high expectations for this book, and I wasn't disappointed. I was happy to see Jeff's character continues to grow and develop, along with all the others. After reading the series, I feel like I too have friends in Andvell. I was also pleased with how the series wrapped up (don’t worry, I won’t spoil it for you). Krista Walsh is an author I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a good fantasy adventure. She is definitely an author I will be following. I can't wait to see what other lands she takes us readers to in the future.
There is always a time when reading a trilogy or a series when one can say this one or that one is my favorite. I do not think I could say that when it comes to this trilogy. Each kept me up reading into the night sitting in the most uncomfortable hard chair but did not even notice because I was too involved into the book. Now of course my body did kinda scream at some point and I did pay for it. But I can't say I regret it. I was engrossed too much into the story. I believe that says a lot about the writer.
He made the characters so very real and the story arch plausible that it was natural. I do not believe in the entire time I said to my self "oh, yeah, right, like that could happen" and be jarred out of a story. Believe me I have been and it was not a comfortable feeling. Krista created a seamless flow from both worlds. Even the consequences from choices that were made didn't just disappear.
Thank you Krista for sharing your gift of writing and I look forward to reading more of you books. I have added you as an author to follow. And I must say thank you to another place for letting me learn of the author to begin with.
I've enjoyed all the books in Krista's Meratis trilogy. And I've really been looking forward to reading the final installment, seeing what else was in store for these characters.
I wasn't disappointed. From the moment they returned to Andvell, I was hooked. I loved the back and forth between Jeff and Venn. Seeing the way the other relationships were developing. The heightening tension between Jayden and Ariana.
There were a few moments that had me worried. But, I didn't have need to. I loved the way it all ended. A little sad that it's over, but I definitely enjoyed the ride.
Can't wait to read more adventures from the author.
The final installment has been as much fun as the first two. I read these books to be entertained, and was not disappointed. The premise of an author becoming a character in his own story is perhaps not new, but Krista Walsh has succeeded spectacularly. The characters are perfectly structured for a fantasy tale, complete with magic and dragons. Enough action and adventure to please those fans, and a safe read for the younger readers. I recommend all three highly, but don't read at night or you'll be yawning in the morning.
All I can say, is that if you haven't read this yet, you must. Though be prepared to be sad it's over. Book - hangovers are real, and I had one. I did not want to say Goodbye.... Which is also why I was so excited to hear my fave character Venn has her own trilogy!! I'm buying the whole set and will devour it all as I have done this series there is no doubt to that. Each book Krista has written has gotten better and better and leaves me eagerly waiting whatever she releases next.
This fantasy book is by one of my favorite authors, and this series was how I discovered her. This world is fascinating, because the concept is such an interesting twist on the relationship between an author and the world he creates. This time around, I listened to the audiobook, which is very well done. I highly recommend experiencing this book either read or listened to!!
I'm always worried about endings, but this series delivered well. All three books link together but stand on their own, and the end of book 3 successfully wrapped everything up in a satisfying ending.
Really sorry to see this well-written series end now that the characters have become my friends. The storyline was great & wrapped up the trilogy really well.
