I got this book as I was curious to learn a little bit about surfing, even though I do not intend to try it ever. But I have always found it enchanting so to speak, to watch people surf in films or with my bare eyes. This book held my attention, it is written in a light tone, engaging and descriptive. It offers thorough, precise descriptions, so you can almost feel you are there. E.g., “Front Foot Placement: Bring your front foot forward near the board's center, knees bent, eyes focused on the horizon”. Several explanatory and beautiful images in colour (at least the e-book), I would have liked them bigger, and I always miss when there is no text or title accompanying images in books. The author writes about common challenges beginners in surfing face and how to avoid or tackle them. Several advice and recommendations are presented, and last but not least, the encouragement to live this lifestyle and embrace being a part of the Surf Tribe. I certainly will not in this life give myself the opportunity to try this charming sport (I´m 72 and I aim considerably lower in my physical activities), but this book would definitely help me to get started if I were to try it. Well worth my time to read it!
