At forty-eight, Reese Gallagher has seen enough of love to know it's a lie. Her ex-wife made sure of that.
Now she runs her struggling inn with grim determination, pouring everything into keeping her late parents' legacy alive.
When a film production descends on her small town, wanting to use her inn as their primary location for an entire month, Reese wants to say no. She doesn't need Hollywood chaos disrupting her quiet life. But the money they're offering? It's the only thing standing between her and losing everything.
Delaney Pierce is America's sweetheart, the thirty-year-old actress who can do no wrong. She's spent her entire career being exactly who everyone expects her to perfect, poised, and decidedly straight.
The truth? Delaney has always known she's gay.
She's just never met anyone worth risking her carefully constructed life for.
A few secret flings with other closeted actresses, sure. But real love? That's something she's accepted might never be hers. Not if she wants to keep her career.
Then she meets Reese.
Reese doesn't do charm or pretense. She's out, unapologetic, and wholly unimpressed by fame. She doesn't care that Delaney Pierce is a household name, and she certainly doesn't believe in the happily-ever-afters Delaney is paid to portray. She's bitter, guarded, and wants nothing to do with Hollywood's idea of romance.
But as October deepens and filming continues, something neither of them expected begins to grow.
For the first time in her life, Delaney wants something more than her next role. She wants lazy mornings in Reese's kitchen. She wants to know what made Reese so cynical about love. She wants to be the one who makes her believe again.
Reese feels it too. The way Delaney looks at her when she thinks no one is watching. The careful distance Delaney keeps in public that disappears when they're alone. The longing that hangs between them like the autumn mist. And God, Delaney wants to kiss her without looking over her shoulder first.
But Reese won't be someone's secret. She won't hide who she is for anyone. Not even for a woman who's making her feel things she promised herself she'd never feel again.
The production will wrap. The town will empty of cameras and crew. And Delaney will have to return to Los Angeles and the life she's built on carefully constructed lies.
Unless she's finally brave enough to choose the love she never thought she deserved.
4 stars. Closeted actress! My catnip! It’s such a strangely particular micro-trope but I love it so much. It's one of my favorites. This was really good. Delaney is an actress and is in town to film her latest movie. She and Reese get off on the wrong foot because of a mix up with Delaney’s booking at Reese’s apartment. I loved that, Reese is really grumpy whereas Delaney is very kind and even in the beginning it was easy to see the chemistry between them. I liked both characters a lot and while this is very much insta-love I didn’t mind at all. I completely bought into it and Delaney’s grand gesture during the third act drama was so good. I loved it. Great read.
Perfect rom-com about Reese, a Vermont innkeeper, and closeted Hollywood actress, Delaney when the production team takes over the inn for a movie. I loved the progression of their relationship and the way in which they kept " bumping" into each other. I loved the epilogue and the cover, too. The story was full of heat and just enough angst to satisfy the reader. Enjoy!
This is a cute story. A Hollywood film company is paying you a ridiculous amount to use your inn to film a romcom. You’d have refused but the inn needs a lot of expensive repairs.
They arrive and it seems you didn’t read the contract well the actress had requested to stay on site. The first you knew of this was when you found her in your private suite freshly showered.
She keeps literally bumping into you. ..and the chemistry is hot.
The characters are adorable, funny, story line entertaining. Think you’ll enjoy this book.
What a beautiful story. Lovely pacing and two leads that were so different but destined to be together. Fun, sexy, and touching. I’d have loved to read more about these two and how their life unfolded but I guess that’s the author’s magic. A great story which always leaves you wanting more.
A beautiful story where love wins becase it's what really matters. Neither woman expected this love to happen, but it did, and then what? Is keeping a secret about who you are worth more? Is keeping one' heart safe but alone the way to go on living? Those are the questions these women must answer and the reader is with them each step of the way, with their love, with their anguish. We stay, because the writing is wonderful. Don't miss this.
Hallmark But Make It Gay And Steamy I thought this was a really fun read. I flew through it. I love the trope: actress + ordinary woman, especially a closeted actress. There was just the right amount of angst, drama, and heat. Another solid 5 star read from Carol Wyatt. If you're looking for an easy to read age gap romance with plenty of steam check this one out.
