You Are a Child of God: Devotions for Living Your Grace-Filled Identity

Rate this book
Focusing on your identity as a daughter of God brings comfort in grief, assurance in doubt, and a renewed way of living like nothing else can.

Many women say they feel distant from God as they struggle with loneliness, doubt, and insecurities. Our culture loudly asserts, “Believe in yourself, and you will thrive!” Yet God’s voice is louder, reminding us that a Mighty One is in our midst, a God who saves because we cannot save ourselves. You Are a Child of God will open your ears to his song from Zephaniah 3:17 and deepen your intimacy with the Savior.

This eight-week devotional by Katie Polski encourages readers to live in the freedom, joy, and security of God’s family. As children of God, we are no longer slaves to fear and are set free from condemnation, we can find purpose in suffering and have confidence in a promised future with him. When we begin to realize all of this, it transforms the way we relate with others and with our heavenly Father.

Helps readers better understand their grace-filled identity as an adopted child of God and how to live out this gospel truth in their daily life. Easy-to-follow 40-day format includes Scripture readings, reflections, and application questions and is suitable for individuals or small groups. Part of the Gospel Truth for Women series, helping busy women of all ages and stages to identify their struggles and go to Scripture to meet God.

I have read this devotional and it has reminded me not to forget who I am and where my hope is in the things I do and why I do them, I think in Katie’s heart she recognizes that many times we can forget that our value is in Christ and the union that He gives us, and how that is reflected in our lives, also how we do not forget that we are part of a body, we are not alone with our life of faith, regardless of others, but that God has put us in a community to live for Him and that He sustains us to live for Him.

This book has a warm and encouraging message at its heart: we are God’s children, secure in His love and invited to come to Him as our Father. There are some genuinely lovely passages and illustrations here, and I can see this being an encouraging read for someone who needs reassurance of God’s presence and care.

For me, though, I was hoping for a little more depth. The central themes are revisited frequently—our identity as God’s children, His presence with us, freedom from fear, and running to our Father—and I sometimes felt that the same ideas were being repeated rather than developed further.

I also found that the book tended to move fairly quickly from Scripture to personal application. There are places where the author handles the biblical context thoughtfully, and I particularly appreciated those sections. I simply found myself wishing for more of that throughout the book.

The very warm, intimate language around “Abba,” the Father’s arms and so on will probably resonate strongly with some readers, although it wasn't quite as effective for me, especially with the repetition. I also wasn't always convinced by some of the more straightforward applications of passages that I think can benefit from a little more context and nuance.

That said, I appreciated the author's evident desire to help readers rest in their identity and security in God. There is much here that is encouraging and worth reflecting on; I just found that, overall, the book didn't give me the theological depth or fresh insight I was hoping for.

A gentle, reassuring book that I suspect will speak particularly well to readers looking for devotional encouragement, even though it wasn't quite the book I was looking for.

I’m thankful to New Growth Press for the opportunity to read this book.

“You are a child of God: Devotions for Living Your Grace-Filled Identity” by Katie Polski

A newly released 40 day/8 week devotional from New Growth Press that is not only beautifully illustrated (the cover and artwork throughout drew me in instantly), but written & structured beautifully as well.

“The Christian life is not meant to be lived in uncertainty. God wants his children to live with confident assurance - not in ourselves, but in His finished and loving work.” - Katie Polski

Chapters/Weeks:
📖 Assurance of Our Faith
📖 Security in Exchange for Fear
📖 Intimacy with God Our Father
📖 A Spirit-Led Life
📖 Heirs with Christ Our Brother
📖 Purpose in Our Pain
📖 An Everlasting Inheritance
📖 An Eternal Family of God

It has been a joy to go through this devotional slowly with my headphones on (for listening to coordinating scripture) and a hook and yarn in my hands. While I am doing this one on my own, I can’t wait to share it with my women’s Bible study group and also look forward to going through it again with my daughters.

I feel like it has become harder and harder over the years for me to find biblically sound devotionals and books. I look forward to checking out the other devotionals in this Gospel Truth for Women series. I have become confident in what NGP puts out and treasure having a home library of theologically sound works to share with my family and friends.

#CoverLoverBookReview received a review copy of this book. My honest opinions and thoughts—not influenced by anyone. #ad

I’ve found another wonderful devotional, and this one is all about our identity as daughters of God! I just love that focus.

The book has a really clean, easy-to-follow layout that covers eight weeks (40 days total). Each daily reading includes:
• A Scripture passage
• A short devotional (2 pages)
• Heartfelt application questions
At the end of each five-day week there’s a special prompt that challenges you to take the truths you’ve learned and share them with others. The size of the book (8x10) gives you plenty of white space to write down your thoughts, answers, or prayers without feeling crowded.

I’m feeling so encouraged by these daily readings. They’re such a beautiful reminder that we are anchored in the hope, love, grace, and comfort of our Heavenly Father.
