4.5 stars - This picks up right where book 1 left off with Cord on an expedited mission to take out Thalium and his organization. He gains the help of ex-coworker, Zeke Asher’s driver, Benji, and his PA/hacker, Elaine to come up with a plan of revenge and vengeance for everything Thalium has put them through, especially and most importantly, the torture of Asher. I loved how this group came together. They also are, minus Zeke, simultaneously a part of Asher’s new plan for their new life with Asher selling his company and Cord leaving Dante’s “employment.”

Cord and Asher are more and more on the same page with their relationship, and both really seem focused on their future. They are both worried about disappointing the other at various times, but their openness and honesty make short work of any issues escalating to the point of doing damage.

Both buys are protective and worried about each other, but certain things need to happen before they can truly focus on their own lives. Cord is always concerned his darker side will scare Asher off and that taking out Thalium will give Asher a front row seat to all that he is capable of. Asher stands strong though and admits he actually needs some of that darkness in his life. These guys have been through a lot over the years and from early on in their childhood. It seems they were always meant to be together and finally realizing they are mates has really put them on another level. I loved seeing this aspect progress throughout this story.

My only niggle on this was how quickly things wrapped up with Thalium. It built up for most of the story but then, when push came to shove, was over rather quickly. Likewise, I was expecting Dante to be more of a problem letting Cord go.

All in all though, I really enjoyed this world. I really wish it was more than a duet, because I was not ready to say goodbye to Cord, Asher and the others. This is a bit more on the violent side at times, but that’s just how Cord rolls, and this really wouldn’t have felt right any other way. I will definitely be on the lookout for more from this author in the future.

If Taste of Blood was the appetizer that hooked us, Fate of Blood is the main course that leaves you completely and utterly satisfied. A.J. Church has outdone herself with this sequel, delivering a dark urban fantasy romance that is as emotionally wrenching as it is brutally violent. This isn’t just a book you read; it is a world you survive alongside the characters.

The dynamic between Cord and Asher has shifted from the push-and-pull of the first book to a powerful, unified front. Watching Asher not only accept but crave Cord's darker, violent side is breathtaking.

Asher stands strong though and admits he actually needs some of that darkness in his life.

This level of acceptance is the beating heart of the novel. The realization that they are mates—that their connection goes beyond simple history or attraction—elevates the romance to a spiritual, unbreakable level.

The plot centers on the team’s mission to exact revenge on Thalium, the entity responsible for Asher's past torture. The narrative does not shy away from the gritty reality of this vengeance. It is bloody, it is calculated, and it is incredibly cathartic. Seeing the "Scooby Gang" (Cord, Asher, Zeke, Benji, and Elaine) come together to execute this plan is a masterclass in found-family dynamics.

Make no mistake: this is a Dark Romance. Church balances the high-octane violence of the vampire mafia world with moments of intense, scorching intimacy. The spice is off the charts, but it never feels gratuitous; every intimate moment serves to deepen the bond between the two leads as they navigate a world trying to tear them apart.

Cord and Asher are arguably one of the best M/M pairings in modern urban fantasy. Their loyalty is fierce and palpable.

Elaine (the hacker) and Benji (the driver) add perfect touches of humor and competence that balance out Cord’s brooding intensity.

While I won't spoil it, the transition into their "new life" leaves the reader hopeful yet desperate for more.

Fate of Blood is a triumph. It is gritty, raw, and beautifully written. A.J. Church captures the essence of what it means to love someone’s monster as much as their man. If you love vampire lore, high-stakes mafia politics, and romance that bleeds, you need to read this book immediately.

Fate of Blood picks up right where book 1 left off—and not a moment too soon. I think I would’ve lost my mind if I’d had to wait. I loved this book just as much as the first. I honestly thought that once the initial plot point was resolved, things might fizzle out. Nope. This was nonstop action from start to finish.

Cord and Asher somehow have even stronger chemistry than they did in book one. This time around, more side characters step into the spotlight as these two loners begin to expand their worlds a bit.

The intimacy ramps up from extra spicy to truly dark and feral, and the violence is turned up several notches as well. Remarkably, despite the increased violence and sadism, the characters are even more lovable. There were also moments that made me laugh out loud—Cord’s friend Zeke, in particular, is low-key hilarious… and completely unhinged.

If you’re looking for a paranormal dark romance that doesn’t waste time getting to the good stuff, Fate of Blood delivers. This second instalment in A.J Church’s series brings us back to Asher and Chord – two vampires navigating New York City with all the danger and desire you would hope for.

The pacing matches the first book; fast moving, balanced and impossible to put down. The main storyline takes a slightly predictable path, but it’s still an enjoyable ride. What really elevated this book for me was the character development – those flashbacks to childhood add depth, history and a surprising tenderness that makes you root for these flawed, dark, yet strangely likeable leads.

And the spicy scenes. They are unapologetically smutty, plentiful, and absolutely on point. If you love a dark, twisted romance, you’ll be more than satisfied with this book.

Where I felt the book stumbled a little is in its focus – by sticking so tightly to the two main characters, some side stories and settings that could have added complexity don’t get the attention that they deserve. A bit more exploration there could have made the overarching plots stronger and less predictable.

Overall, if you’re here for a simple plot, compelling characters, and a generous helping of smut, this is a great read. If you prefer intricate plotting with your spice, it may not hit every note – but it’s a still a great, fiery addition to the series.

I loved the first book in this duet and couldn’t wait to get my hands on Fate of Blood. And it did not disappoint!

Cord and Asher are perfect together. Even though Cord is still hesitant to fully commit to Asher, he can’t deny his feelings. And Asher is a steady and constant presence in Cord’s life. And when Cord finally puts the past behind him and embraces his present and future with Asher? It was everything!

The spice in this one was so good! But more than that, I loved the continuation of the story line. Who could Cord trust? So many people that he felt he could trust have turned their loyalties to Python. And where is the Python? After what happened to Asher, Cord is out for revenge. With the Crimson Guild on lock down, Cord realizes he needs allies and some of those allies come from unexpected places. Cord has always preferred to work alone, but he's not about to turn down the assistance that’s offered. I loved how the story played out and everything ended just the way it should.

The secondary characters in this duet added so much depth to the story. I loved Elaine and her snarky attitude, Benji and his protective side and Zeke with his ‘let’s blow things up’ attitude. I really hope we get more from this world and these three characters are able to shine in their own books. 🤞

Overall, if you’re looking for something with action, great world-building, a strong story line and a pair of hot vampires that make you swoon, this one’s for you!

When Asher Wilson was twelve, Cord McCallister became his hero when he stepped in to stop him being bullied. They were together since then until Cord left. Ten years later they reunited and are planning to stay together. First, they must address the issue of another vampire who wants to take over the city. To thwart him, Cord will need to be Asher’s savior.

There is so much going on in Fate of Blood. Resolution of one problem did not mean a stop in the action. Oh, no it kept going. The violence increased. The love intensified. The new biological agents were fascinating. And we meet more characters. Zeke was fantastic. There is so much to him and, in spite of the torturing going on, he is loveable. Asher and Cord’s relationship heats up spectacularly and these two worm their way into our hearts. You must start with book one and then book two. I am sure you will enjoy them as much as me if you enjoy darkness in your romance. These two books introduced me to A J Church and I am sure glad to have found this author.

I was so excited when the second book was announced for ARC that I didn’t even hesitate to sign up. I can’t wait to buy physical copies for my collection of books! This series really helped scratch that itch for a good vampire series. Now let’s see if I can find something else to fill up this void that I received from this series.

Asher and Cord are so different from each other that they make you want to know more about their world. I’m hoping we will get to see more from them in the future. Fingers crossed that there will be more to enjoy. I’m glad they got their happy ending and the family that Asher always wanted to have. Cord and Asher try to treat each other equally but they still push each other’s buttons so to speak. Luckily the author doesn’t do this throughout the book and use it for the plot.

Arc review

When I had Arc read the first part of this series I immediately asked Amanda when the second book would come out. I just knew the second book would be a good one.

It did not disapoint! This book was amazing.

I love that this book continued where book one ended. I love Cord and Asher, they conquered a permanent place in my heard.

The differences between Cord and Asher are like water and fire, but hey love each other fiercely and would do anything for each other.

We still have all elements from the first book, Mafia, Vampires and the live Cord and Asher have for each other. Amanda knows how to combine these elements to a great story that I devoured.

The book contains dark elements like torture and explicit scenes that are steaming. The book end in a happy end for Cord and Asher and I know this is the end of the story. Secretly I'm hoping there will be another book containing these lovelies.

This series dug its fangs into me and completely satisfied that craving for a truly good vampire story. I’m left with that familiar, aching book hangover, desperately trying to figure out what could possibly fill the void this story has left behind. Asher and Cord couldn’t be more different, and that contrast only made their world more irresistible. Every interaction pulled me deeper, leaving me wanting more of their story and hoping, fingers tightly crossed, that we haven’t seen the last of them. Watching Asher finally find the family and happiness he’s always longed for was incredibly satisfying, and their hard-won happy ending felt earned. They strive to meet each other as equals, even as they clash and test one another in ways that feel raw and real. Thankfully, the tension never turns into cheap conflict. The author handles it with care, allowing the story to shine without relying on unnecessary drama.

A.J. Church’s second instalment in this dark, addictive vampire duet pulls us right back into the chaotic, seductive world of Asher and Cord—two vampires navigating New York City with all the danger, tension, and desire you’d hope for. The pacing mirrors the first book beautifully: fast-moving, balanced, and genuinely hard to put down. While the main plot follows a somewhat predictable arc, it’s still an incredibly engaging ride. The flashbacks to childhood are especially impactful, adding emotional depth, history, and a surprising tenderness that makes you root for these flawed, morally gray, yet strangely lovable leads. Elaine’s sharp wit, Benji’s protective loyalty, and Zeke’s chaotic “let’s blow things up” energy bring so much life to the world. They add richness to the narrative, and honestly, each of them deserves a book of their own. Overall, this sequel delivers action, atmosphere, strong world-building, and a romance that’s equal parts dark, tender, and scorching.

Uurrgghhh A.J Church….you pulled me in again!!! Thank you so much for emailing and letting me know Fate of Blood was on BookSirens. Cord & Asher are living in my head rent free on repeat!! I neeeeeed more from them all.

I’m so glad I got the chance to read BOTH books (Taste of Blood - book 1) as ARCs these (along with a few others) have really been my fave books of 2025. The cliffhanger at the end of the first book had me feral, I’m so glad I got to know what happened next.

Cord & Asher are just perfect for each other Yin & Yang, Black & White….they belong together. I don’t want to sound pushy….but write more about them lol.

Thank you so much again for allowing me the chance to read both books. You’ve made this reader very happy 😊

This was so good as a conclusion of a duet.

I got worried when I hit 80% and there still wasn't a resolution but it all concluded so well in that last 20%

I received this through BookSirens as an ARC.

Cord and Asher's story was heartbreaking but beautiful. I did wish I knew more about the 10 years they spent apart. Maybe that would be a good novella?

I still loved how this story took vampires a little differently. It was a nice, fresh take on a supernatural being.

I also loved the sexual power dynamic between Cord and Asher. You'd think the tattooed mercenary would be the natural top but no, Asher, the CEO tech nerd in sharp suits took control. And it was hot.

Fate of Blood is the second book in the Cord & Asher series. This series should be read in order. We are back with Cord and Asher for the end of this duology. This is a vampire Mafia story so expect some dark intense parts. This book picks up where the first one ends. I still love Cord and Asher because they are so different. I loved all the characters in the story. I love the steam between the guys. I know this will become one of my go to series when I'm looking for a good vampire story. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

Asher and Cord must survive the evil that has arrived, and nothing will stop Cord from crushing everything and everyone in his path.

The characters are amazing and the world building is very dark but done wonderfully. Beware that once you start reading you will not be able to put this story down. It grabs you at the first word and doesn't let go until the last.

There is a lot of darkness and plenty of steamy parts therefore I recommend an 18+ rating for this book.

I thought this was a really good continuation of the last book, however be warned that it does contain much more graphic violence than the 1st book. The exploration of cord and ash's dinamic as a couple after they reunite and the impact there hidden characterists have on their relatiinship makes them such an intersting couple to read. I wish that the book had a bit more detail on the plot like the first book did since this one definetly focuses more heavily on them rather than the world thats around them which is the only thing I thought was a bit of a shame.

Continuing from Taste of Blood and Cord is on a mission.
This was full of action and suspense from page 1, fast paced, reading it in one sitting. The more I followed Asher and Cord trying to get their revenge, more of their backstory comes out and I understood why they were meant to be together. El and Benji played a bigger part which showed that vampires and humans can work together.
This is vampires at their best, they fight without fear and love strong and Asher and Cord knew how to love.
This is a world I would love to return to

Hearts beat together

I think this was supposed to be a two book series, but I’m really hoping that A J Church continues it and that the adventures of Cord and Asher and their little family group will continue. The last book ended on a cliffhanger which I don’t like, but at least the books came out close together. This book has Cord getting Asher back and then getting revenge for the kidnapping. He and A J Church are very creative in this endeavor and I loved reading about what happened. Heed the warnings and enjoy.

I shall not die. I shall suffocate in ecstasy.

After reading that cliffhanger from the end of book 1 I wanted more of Cord and Asher.
Asher is the light to Cord’s darkness.
Cord needs to find Asher and he will go to any lengths to find him.
Thalium wants to take over the city and wants Dante (Cord’s boss) destroyed.
Revenge is sweet in this book. Lots of sexy scenes and both characters are amazing. Love Cord and Asher.

Fate of Blood by AJ Church is a dark, intense read that leans heavily into themes of fate, devotion, and survival. The bond between Cord McCallister and the narrator is fierce and consuming, built on protection, sacrifice, and moral gray areas. With relentless tension and graphic violence, the story doesn’t shy away from its brutality, making the emotional stakes feel raw and urgent. A gripping choice for readers who enjoy dark romance with high danger and uncompromising themes.

In book 1 Cord & Asher reunited after a 10 year absence. Cord being an enforcer for Dante was trying to keep things in sync between the vampire world & humans with Asher's help. In this book, we delve more into Asher & Cord's relationship while still keeping their world in sync. Low to medium angst, well written. HEA, I think there is more to Cord & Asher and am hoping for more adventures. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

My two favorite things in this book were the way the group came together to help Asher and Cord. I loved all these characters and the bonds they had with each other. Even more than that, however, I loved watching the development of Asher and Cord's relationship and the way Cord worried that his darker side and his abilities might make Asher rethink their relationship. On the contrary, however, that side turned out to be necessary for their survival and Asher was right there for Cord.

4.75/5 stars! I didn't realize this was the second book in the series, so I was a bit behind when I first started. However, I quickly fell in love with the world and the characters. Cord and Asher have INSANE chemistry and there is so much cool pnr stuff going on. I'm really hoping to read more similar books by this author.

*Arc Review*

This was a great way to round out Cord and Asher’s story, the spice was spicy, the story flowed nicely. It was great to see both of them, get back into each other with the life experience to ensure that their relationship could be healthy.

They are in fact absolutely perfect for each other and have always been, but even soulmates need to put work in to have a thriving relationship.

Cord and Asher together, 5 stars. I actually kind of forgot about the situation that caused this whole thing but the author didn’t, the ending made sense in the span of things, but I was left wanting a few more answers for questions that popped up on the way to the end.

So Cord and Ash, 5 stars

Storyline, 4.5 stars

Spice 5 stars, but more sensual.

Closure 4 stars. I’m pretty sure this is a Duet but there’s room for more stories and world building.
