I play hard. I hit harder. On the ice, I’m chaos with skates on—and I never lose.
But the second Leander Cameron walks into my rink, calm and quiet like he doesn’t have anything to prove, I know two
I want to break him.
I can’t stop looking at him.
He’s all control. I’m all fury. He’s the new guy with a chip on his shoulder. I’m the rookie star with a reputation to uphold. We shouldn’t mix. We definitely shouldn’t get that close in the locker room.
But there’s something about him—his silence, his sharpness, the way he won’t give me what I want. And that just makes me want him more.
Now he’s under my skin… and I have no idea how to play this game.
Puck Him Up is a scorching, dark rivals-to-lovers MM hockey romance full of enemies with attitude, slow-burn obsession, locker room heat, and two alpha athletes who were made to collide.
Sometimes the Ice Hockey trope can get a bit repetitive with rival member of different team being arch enemies. Holly Myers has given us something completely different and very, very hot and steamy, both on and off the Ice.
Both Phoenix and Leander were scary in their interpretation of being strong and ‘the man’, displaying an icyness that had nothing to do with the temperature of the rink. It was clear why Leander was the way he was, but I’d have liked more details of why Phoenix kept people at bay most of his life.
Watching all this play out in The Wolves efforts to win a Tournament Trophy, had the whole team of players and management at loggerheads. Then Leander, trying to fix matters, makes a big boo-boo.
The big surprise was the role reversal, and the way it came about.
I wonder if Holly has plans to tell us more about Silas, Leander’s older brother. I look forward to next in the series.
Even though I had some of this author's books in my TBR, I never got around to reading them. so, this would be my first book from this author.
I usually do not blindly go into the book as I am very picky about certain things I do not want to see in a story LOL. But I liked the blurb so much that I took a chance and read it.
First few initial chapters do have a bit of monologues (which I am not a fan of, give me more of MM interactions) but I really really liked it. I would have even said loved it except for that one almost MMM scene (with Jax). It came out of nowhere and took me by surprise. MMM or poly is not my cup of tea but since this came all of a sudden, I just went with the flow. This scene is quite a bit steamy but short and ends up as a dream of Leander.
I also dont like when authors force fit characters to be Vers but it works in this story and it was HOT to see Phoenix letting go off his need to control :D Phoenix background story could have been more angsty.
I am so tempted to give 4* because of that poly dream scene but letting go off it for this time. I hope author gives a TW going forward for her books.

I struggled to enjoy books by this author but this one was actually not bad, much better than the ones I tried and dnf.
Although this novel still wasn’t fully vibing with me, the start was decent, I liked the dark obsessiveness, the mouse and cat game but especially the second coupling where the strongly dominant MC who was always in charge and with upper hand, lets himself be totally vulnerable and completely submit to the other quieter, gentle MC. Something about a very alpha male being taken apart and claimed in the most primal manner, is just so raw and sexy. Leander making Phoenix “Needy. Off balance” and utterly wrecking him, fuck that was darn hot.
Are you kidding me? This book, at least the first chapter (which is as far as I have gotten before needing to write this review) was 100% WRITTEN BY/ OR USING AI. I'm not just talking about the cover of the book, but the actual writing itself.
It's impossible to make sense of the dialogue, and written in the exact identical way that AI writes scenes where it is vaguely on topic but nothing actually makes sense, and is repetitive. For example: In chapter one, when they are in the locker room arguing (having JUST met) this is the dialogue Myers gives us:
Boy 1: “You’ve always got to be in control, don’t you?” Boy 2: “Breaking them down. What else is there?”
Also the repetition of 'low and dangerous voice' just phrased slightly differently. I can tell it is AI because every line of dialogue is not linear, it doesn't follow the flow of a human conversation. Basically each line is a standalone 'quote' and you can almost hear the 'author' typing out the "write a heated conversation between two rivals" into the prompt box. Puck Him Up
I really enjoyed this book, for once it wasn't dragged out until the last min on how they felt for each other. How their past refected the way they treated the future. Phoenix knew who he wanted and wasn't afraid to seduce his rookie for it. It's not a dark book really, but it had some dark memories, that the MC had to learn about how it involved influence their HEA, to open up what they needed and wanted all along.
The author makes the reader believe in monogamy between the characters, but after Lee dreams of having triplets, and then it turns out that this is normal for Felix, I stopped reading, I don't know how events developed further, I just share my impressions of the book. And I didn't like it, even though 50% couldn't come off.

Hot, sexy, sweaty men, all in a good story, what more could you want. I was never into ice hockey but after read a couple of stories like this I have decided that hockey is great, as long as it has sexy, sweaty men in it. an ok tale, an alright read.
My god that was the worst ‚mafia‘ book I’ve ever read. The plot was stupid. The dialogue was bad. Oh and a Mafia book without any guns. What a shitshow. Not recommended.
