This was such a fun, interesting, amazing book filled with stories of ordinary people who did amazing things in their lives that ripples through time. I bought this book to read out loud to my 94 year old Dad with Alzheimer's. He doesn't normally focus much on TV, or music, or reading which in the past were favorite pastimes of his.
But I got this book and just started to read to him a story at a time and he was seriously following along, and reminiscing about some of the people that are written about and sharing what he remembered. It was like a door to 'his world' where he still remembers, feels relevant, and is happy in what was in fact what he considers, his best years. He got to the point where he'd want me to read 'just one more'.
Deborah Ezzell herself is a person whose work will have ripples through others' lives touching peoples minds where nothing else does. God bless her for this book.
Short Stories for Seniors : 30 Feel-Good True Stories in History That Celebrate Unsung Heroes Who Changed the World by Deborah Ezzell Love this book and know it would be a treasure during the cold nights in the winter. Just to read one story a night with the family. We can all get educated on what really happened and how we are where we are today as is the world when it comes to special people. Love stories about them as they appear to be just regular people but they saw or felt things that made them find out why and how to use it for the good of mankind. Each story ends with a feel good takeaway at the end of each of the 30 stories. References are included at the end also. Educational and fun read.
I read every week to dementia patients at a memory care facility and am constantly looking for books with stories that are short, easy to read out loud (not too much dialogue), and can keep their attention. This book definitely hit all the right notes. Not only was it interesting to the group and the staff (!) but I also learned a lot. I can’t wait to start the next one with them.
