An engaging work of fiction based on the author's lived experience. I was drawn into the world of Danny, a BC forester who enjoys his outdoor work and life, caught between economic priorities and public outcry over forestry practices (in particular, the use of herbicides). This is a fantastic introduction to the world of forestry, some of its colorful characters and language. A pleasure to read.
Bill Perry captures a formative moment in Vancouver Island (and our collective modern) history—the experience of a government forester managing their personal & romantic life, working with the community, and deeply experiencing both sides of a complex ecological controversy.
