Do you ever feel like the days and seasons pass by in a blur—without much reflection, without much connection to your faith?
Are you longing for a slower, more sacred rhythm in your spiritual life, knowing your days are filled with purpose?
The Church Calendar: Focusing on Christ Through Liturgical Living invites you to rediscover time, not as something to manage, but as something holy.
This book is a warm and accessible guide to the liturgical year—an ancient practice that has shaped believers for centuries.
But it’s not just about dates or traditions. It’s about Jesus. It’s about seeing His story unfold in your everyday life and letting the Christ-centered seasons slow you down and shape you.
From Advent to Christmas, through Lent and Easter, and even in the quieter seasons of Ordinary Time, the Church Calendar walks you through the life of Christ—and helps you anchor your own life in His.
This book provides a nice overview of the Church Year, and is beautifully crafted, making it a great reference guide to keep on hand. Covers all seven seasons of the liturgical year, providing background information, ways to celebrate and observe, and a list of Scriptures to read or meditate on. While this book provides a substantial overview, it does not go as in depth as some others. There is a list of resources in the back, giving you a way to explore further.
now is the perfect time to read this book - right at the end of ordinary time and heading into advent and the beginning of the church calendar!! thanks for this great resource, beth!! this has inspired me to think about how to practically incorporate beautiful, Christ-centered, historical rhythms into my life- without being rigid or legalistic.
Informative read for anyone interested in understanding the history of different church celebrations. This book goes into the history of not only Jewish holidays, but also how the catholics have adapted them and then changed for protestants. Which means this is a very informative read for all three groups as well as those who aren't Christians trying to understand the holidays better. I appreciated how easy it was to read and understand things I was hesitant about learning about thinking it might go over my head. The photos and graphs were well done and added a lot to the clarity of it all. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.
Great overview--has the time (I.e. advent), a short description, ways to celebrate, and special days that fall under that heading (I.e. feasts). I plan to continue reading this through the coming year. Loved being able to start it at advent as it's the beginning of the church calendar.
