When a private guard falls in the line of duty, can she trust her rule-driven co-worker to protect both her body and her heart?

Jessi Swanson has finally reclaimed her life. Still celebrating her escape from an abusive relationship, the resilient bodyguard avoids butting heads with her rigid partner to remain focused on her client’s safety. But when a maniac hits her with his car, she reluctantly seeks help from the skilled control-freak and his strong, muscular arms.

Callan Davis refuses to mess up. Blaming himself for his girlfriend’s death, the methodical protector lies his way into his stubborn colleague’s ambulance and volunteers to watch her back while her attacker remains at large. But after he opens his home to the brown-haired beauty, he wonders if her deflective banter hides truths that jeopardize their mission.

Drawn to her rescuer’s unwavering strength, Jessi knows confessing her secrets will wreck their fragile bond. And although Callan loves the sight of her among his family, the thought of cherishing and losing someone else triggers nothing but panic.

Can they stop protecting the past before it sabotages their future?

Burn is the intense second standalone book in the Dangerous Hearts romantic suspense series. If you like characters with deep emotional connections, fade-to-black intimacy, and forced proximity love stories, then you’ll devour Laurie Harrison’s sizzling tale.

I absolutely loved this book, and honestly I don’t understand how Laurie isn’t more well-known. Every book of hers that I’ve read so far has been genuinely amazing!
I really enjoyed the first book in the series and completely fell in love with Reese and Avery, but Callan—and especially Jess—completely stole my heart this time.

Jess is incredibly relatable, and I found pieces of myself in her throughout the entire story. The fact that she’s a badass bodyguard made her even more compelling, and I loved that Callan, despite being protective, always respected her strength and let her shine. Their banter was fantastic, the slow burn was perfectly paced, and the way they shared music… well, IYKYK! 🥰

At one point, I did start to suspect who the villain might be, at least partly—but when the plot twist finally hit, I was still left completely stunned. I never actually thought it would really happen!

This book delivered everything I love in a romance, and Laurie once again proved what an underrated gem she is. I can’t wait to read more from her!
