This book made me mad… and I mean that as a compliment.

Tail and All took me on an emotional rollercoaster where every time I thought, “Okay, maybe things are finally going to be alright,” everything somehow got worse. And I loved it for that. This story does not play it safe.

If Spider-Punk energy had a book equivalent..raw, rebellious, uncomfortable, and unapologetic..this would be it. It’s gritty, intense, and emotionally exhausting in the way only a good book can be.

⚠️ Trigger warnings matter here.
There are a LOT of them. Some scenes are genuinely disturbing and hard to read…but none of it felt pointless. There’s intention behind the discomfort, and that’s what made it hit harder.

This book pushed my emotions, challenged me, and left me thinking long after I finished. I was angry, uncomfortable, invested, and fully along for the ride.

This has left a hole in my heart. The most bleak book I’ve read in a hot minute.
Ingrid was born with a tail. She’s different. Never having proper help to become one with this part of her body and accept it - it has a mind of its own. She numbs herself with drugs and violence - her tail doing a lot of the work. She becomes a well oiled machine without emotions. Ingrid legit never stood a chance.

Ingrid's difference marks her from birth. The horror isn't her tail, it's the violence carved into her for it.
Brutal and unflinching, this splatterpunk fairytale shows how quickly cruelty festers when difference is revealed.

Ryan Danley brings a fresh take on splatterpunk with this brutal fairytale. Ingrid is born with a tail which seems to have a mind of its own. While Ingrid's abnormality is central to the plot, the real story is how Ingrid is treated by society. Her tail is the impetus for her situation but not why she is victimized... it's simpler than that. People in power abuse because they can. In such a way, Ingrid's story is not unique but the way in which Ryan crafts the narrative entrances the reader and keeps you hooked from start to finish.

Such a well written novella. Very dark themes check your triggers.

Ingrid is born with a tail that often has a mind of its own. Follow her story through tragic circumstance after another as she fights and endures for something better.
