Wanted to quit reading

Many times I wanted to stop reading this book. It constantly repeats over and over…even on the same page! The story is a great idea and would be a great read. The characters are interesting. Wading thru the same thing over and over got very tiresome. The thriller was I finished it!!

‘Hystjasonal’ is a great new word learnt, at first I was pompously sending a screenshot to the author shouting ‘error’ but then on re reading realised a it was a very clever play on words re the main character of this pure psychological thriller, charming ideal and loving Jason Harrington

Jason is ‘going out’ with Mia and I had to accept and let it go how naïve Mia was/is as Jason is obviously stringing her on and has a double life ( no spoilers, the title tells you as much ) what she would discover though is that he wasn’t just playing her he was a complete sociopath who had more than a complex life

As the life untwists before us we see how a seemingly charming man is anything but and in fact is a….well thats not in the title so will leave it at that

As you would expect from this master of suspense writing a great, involving, well written read that ends as classically as a pyscho thriller should

Great read

Loved the twists and turns in this one! Couldn’t believe what the very last paragraph said though! Need answers 😂

So repetitive! I skipped a lot of pages after scanning them because I could tell it was all repetitive info.

The idea of the story is interesting but this book could have been shortened by about 50 pages and it would still have the same effect.

The last line of the book didn’t really add anything to the story and didn’t seem believable at all based on past behavior of the MC. It was really just bizarre to even add it IMO.

I wanted to give up on this one many times — the writer continued to say (almost exactly) the same sentences over and over again. At first I thought, maybe they’re writing in the character’s POV who is spiraling so she’s thinking the same thoughts over and over. Then I thought, nope. It felt like they were paraphrasing to extend the length of a university essay.

And then the last sentence — really?! No context left me with more confusion.

I really enjoyed this book, even though I wouldn’t personally categorize it as a full suspense thriller. There’s definitely a lot of suspense — multiple storylines, secrets unfolding, and that constant feeling of not knowing who’s who or what’s really going on — but it leans more toward domestic suspense than edge-of-your-seat thriller.

That said, the characters are easy to fall in love with, and I found myself genuinely invested in their lives and choices. The plot keeps you engaged, the pacing is smooth, and it’s an easy, fast read that never felt like a chore. I was always curious to see how things would connect and unravel.

Overall, a really solid story with strong character development and plenty of intrigue. Even without the traditional thriller vibes, it was very enjoyable and absolutely worth the read.

just ok

The premise of the book was pretty good, there were some very good parts, but in general just not written great. Too much overlap and the same words over and over and over again.

His Double Life

This book had my attention when I first started reading it. However, as I continued, I noticed the author kept repeating the same points over and over—just reworded in different ways. Throughout the book, there would be moments where a new plot or twist would start to develop and actually catch my interest, but then it would suddenly shift right back to repeating the same material again. That became very frustrating for me.

I’m used to books that keep the suspense and excitement going all the way through, with strong plots and twists, and I didn’t really get that from this book. By the time I reached Chapter 13, I found myself asking, Where is the action? What’s going on? But since I had already invested my time—and because I set a reading goal for myself this year—I pushed through and finished it. I always like to finish what I start.

Eventually, there was a little bit of action and suspense, but even the ending was just mediocre. It didn’t leave me impressed or satisfied. Because of that, I probably won’t read another A.J. Carter book. It felt like too much dragging just to fill up chapters. You can still write a great book without stretching it out unnecessarily.

I do understand what the author was trying to do, even if the execution didn’t work for me. I personally don’t like when authors drag a story—I prefer getting to the suspense and letting the story move forward so I can move on to the next book.

This is my honest opinion. Someone else might enjoy it and want to check it out, but for me, I’ll likely pass on reading anything else from this author unless the pacing improves.

His Double Life by AJ Carter is a gripping, fast-paced read that kept me turning pages. The premise is intriguing from the start, and the idea of a man juggling secrets and separate lives creates steady tension throughout the story. The main character’s internal conflict feels believable, and the constant pressure of maintaining his double life adds a strong sense of unease.

That said, the writing does rely heavily on repeated words and sentence structures, which became noticeable as the story went on and occasionally pulled me out of the moment.
Additionally, while the buildup is solid, there weren’t any major twists, and many plot developments were fairly predictable, although the final sentence left me feeling like I'd missed something along the way.

Even with those drawbacks, the pacing is good and the story remains engaging enough to carry you through. It’s not a groundbreaking thriller, but it’s an entertaining and suspenseful read that’s still worth picking up if you enjoy character-driven drama.

After two years together Mia and Jason appear to have an ideal relationship. True they both still maintain separate domiciles and Jason has to constantly be out of town on consulting jobs but that is primarily for convenience and because Jason is trying to move up in his career for both of their benefits. Then a letter arrives informing Mia that Jason is being less than honest and that he is actually living a double life. Initially reluctant to believe this is possible, a second letter leads to Mia to question the situation more leading to more than she bargains.

A somewhat predictable thriller it is an entertaining page turner that I enjoyed.

I've read books by this author before and remember now that he tends to be repetitive. This one was definitely the hardest one for me to get through. The worst part for me was that literally *3* chapters in a row he described the same scenario. A woman was in her apartment glancing around and remembering how she and her boyfriend cuddled on the couch together, how he sat at the kitchen worktop drinking coffee, and then she looked at some flowers he'd bought her sitting on the table.
It was irritating that the same situation was described twice in a row, it was really disappointing and surprising to read that three times. In a row. 😬🥴

Really?

I very much enjoyed this character driven story in spite of a lot of repetition which seemed designed primarily to increase the number of pages in the book . However, after coming to a very satisfactory and understandable ending of the story for the characters involved, the last two pages were absolutely unnecessary, annoying, disappointing, and definitely diminished the story for me. Simply my opinion; certainly, this is the author’s story, not mine, but I was extremely annoyed. I don’t know that I will seek out other stories by this author because of that.

This book was definitely Hard to put-down!

I thought I had figured out the storyline About 1⁄4 of a way into the book, however I was taken on a rollercoaster ride. I can usually figure out a Storyline rather quickly. Every time I thought I had figured out what was going to happen I was wrong! This book was not predictable and I will definitely be following this author AJ Carter From here on out.

What a beauty of a book! The flow of the writing is so good. Tension, secrets, drama and sassiness all bundled together. Never a dull moment. Fierce characters, whose personalities intertwined with each other perfectly. The plot allowed creativity in terms of the direction of the book. I really enjoyed the suspense build ups, as the quality overall is impressive. I couldn't put it down, I will be looking forward to reading other books from this author.

Just wow

Read it in one sitting...
While you and I hopefully will never find ourselves in this PARTICULAR situation (What a ride this book is!) you WILL see your life, in one way or another, in a very good way when you get to the end and feel a comradarie with the women involved I think ... A great read

Ending

Reading should be a pleasurable, and sometimes a much needed escape. Maybe I should follow the practice of my dear aunt who always read the ending of a book first. She did not appreciate having to guess or come up with her own conclusion, i.e., being dumped by the author. I don't like being dumped either and will look for other authors.

I’ve clearly missed something - why was Mia also referred to as ‘Em’’ throughout? Also the word ‘hystJasonal’ appeared four times (was this a typo for ‘hysterical’?) The story was great but found the ending a bit predictable.

Absolutely awesome!

To feel so indignant regarding the lies...the total pretense and finally the resolution was amazing! Survival and the bonds of friendships formed over this utter deception. Definitely did not want to put this down until the end!

good but slow

Honestly struggled a little through this book. Lots of words for very little to happen apart from one edge of your seat type scene. Well written but just too slow moving for me!

Great Read

It’s my first time reading AJ Carter… there will be more times. I liked the characters and the story line didn’t lag. It was a quick read but not a light one when the story hit its stride. End was excellent!

Okay, I think Mia should have been more suspicious. When someone is too good to be true, they probably are....

Fun book, fast paced! I finished before I went to bed and had really strange dreams! I recommend reading it during the day!

Loved this book

I loved the way this book unfolded. It was unlike anything I have ever read. From foes to friendship, these three women were bound by one deception. It was a very exciting story! A.J. Carter is a master story teller.

I read many books. Never have I read one that had such a surprise ending. AJ Carter, thankfully, never disappoints.
