In Miss Metamorph, Camille Fitzgerald shares a deeply personal memoir of identity, love, and loss—tracing her journey from a disempowered childhood to a woman learning to reclaim her voice, her story, and herself.
Spanning continents and decades, this is not a story that dwells in darkness—but one that moves through it. Through fractured family ties, cultural dissonance, and the quiet, often invisible work of healing, Camille discovers that transformation is not a single moment, but a series of small, courageous choices.
A moving and heartfelt memoir about the life of Camille Fitzgerald. Interesting & inspiration story told in four parts detailing the facets she goes through.
Part I is her childhood with a loving mother and a controlling father. Part II are her struggles as a teenager. Part III is her improbable voyage seeking love. Part IV is her journey as a mother.
Well written and motivational but the pace was too slow for me.
This book is an incredible, authentic, heart-warming read. As a busy working and studying Mum I don’t get time to read but I took this book with me on a brief getaway and couldn’t put it down! Camille writes so descriptively, emotionally and from her heart and personal experience. What a privilege it is to be let into her private world and memories. Such an easy read if you love transformative, uplifting stories of love, courage and resilience.
This was well outside of my normal genre, but it was totally and absolutely worth it! Getting to hear Camille's story was one heck of a roller-coaster, and just absolutely amazing! She has a great writing style and so many stories to tell.
As a mother, this book hit me right in the heart. I mean, I was reading and listening to this late at night after the kids went to bed and absolutely bawling my eyes out. 🥲 There were so many moments while listening to Miss Metamorph that I found myself stopping and reflecting on my own life, my own struggles, and the parts of myself that sometimes get lost in motherhood. We spend so much time taking care of everyone else that it's easy to forget we're still growing, healing, and becoming, too. ❤️🩹 💬 My Favorite Quote From This Beautiful Book: "Identity isn't fixed; it's an ongoing conversation between who I was, who I am, and who I'm still becoming." 🦋 That quote stayed with me long after I finished the book, and I know it will forever hold a special place in my heart. 💕 This memoir touches on grief, healing, motherhood, family, identity, and finding yourself again after life changes you. Some parts were heartbreaking, some were comforting, and all of it felt honest, raw, and real. 🦋 As moms, we're often expected to carry so much while still showing up for everyone around us. This book reminded me that it's okay to acknowledge our pain, honor our journey, and give ourselves grace while we're figuring things out. This book feels like sitting down with a friend who truly understands. It doesn't pretend life is perfect, but it gently reminds you that even after the hardest seasons, growth is still possible. 🙂 By the time I finished, I felt seen. And I think a lot of mothers and grandmothers will feel that way, too. Thank you Camille for sharing this beautiful story with us 💜
Review: Miss Metamorph – Camille Fitzgerald ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Miss Metamorph felt like such an intimate and emotional read. It was also the first memoir I’ve ever read, and honestly, I couldn’t have chosen a better one. It’s one of those books that talks about pain, change, and motherhood in such a raw and honest way, without trying to soften the difficult parts. What stood out to me the most was the way it portrays personal transformation: slow, messy, and sometimes painful, but also full of love and growth. The author captures so beautifully that feeling of rebuilding yourself after life’s hardest moments.
I also loved how motherhood was portrayed from such a real and vulnerable perspective, showing struggles that often remain unspoken. Everything felt deeply human, emotional, and easy to connect with. This is a reflective, powerful, and beautiful story about resilience, identity, and finding yourself again even after being broken. 🤍
(Thank you to the author for providing me with a digital copy of Miss Metamorph and giving me the opportunity to discover such an intimate, honest, and emotional story. It was a truly special reading experience for me).
Miss Metamorph by is a raw, beautifully written and deeply personal memoir about healing, motherhood, and self-rediscovery. The writing feels honest and reflective, showing that transformation isn't always graceful or linear. Some parts feel heavy with introspection, but the emotional honesty makes the story powerful and relatable.
A thoughtful read about rebuilding yourself after life's hardest moments.
Best for: readers who enjoy reflective memoirs about resilience, identity, and personal transformation.
I really loved this book. It reveals the struggles mothers often hide, while also capturing the quiet, enduring beauty of motherhood. There’s something deeply honest about the way the story unfolds, it doesn’t shy away from pain, but instead embraces growth, love, and transformation.
What stood out to me most was how real and reflective it felt. The journey of becoming through loss, change, and self-discovery is portrayed in such a raw and relatable way. It reminds you that life reshapes us, even in the most difficult moments.
This is a touching and introspective read, especially for anyone who appreciates stories about resilience, motherhood, and the complexity of love.
This is a beautifully crafted memoir that draws you in from the very start. Camille writes with honesty, bravery and vulnerability as she shares the powerful influences of motherhood, and the challenges of growing up in a cross cultural family. It’s a story of much love, betrayal and resilience. A young woman finding her own voice and identity despite many challenges. A truly wonderful masterpiece.
Beautiful read! You won't be able put down this heartfelt memoir about the transformation of the author from child, daughter, independent woman, to wife and mother. Her story is inspiring, uplifting, and a testament to the true meaning of resilience. Through much darkness and despair, the author rises like a Phoenix to carve out a life filled with joy, happiness, and abundant love. Brava Camille!
I couldn’t stop reading – Camille has so much talent! The themes of love, loss, and kindness are woven expertly together throughout each chapter. The switching between past and present was seamless as Camille planted seeds for the reader about what is to come. I felt like I was in the busy kitchen, the schoolyard, trips with family, the new home, etc. I loved the way family ties are described and how each loved one has shaped the person Camille is – staying throughout the narrative from the start. A moving and emotional read. 'ARC provided by author'
So beautifully written, an absolute real and raw story coming straight from the heart. The honest and open retelling of Camille’s past and how it has shaped her coming into motherhood.
If you like stories of courage, resilience and healing this is for you. A personal journey about transformation and matrescence. Authentic moments of heartbreak and heart felt warmth.

The moment I saw this book, I just knew… it would hold something special. But didn't know that it would touch me so deeply!!
It isn't just a memoir, It is a story, about a mother longing for her mother. Initially when I started listening to the book, I thought this book would be all about her and her mum and how much she adored her, but then it started taking shape, It isn't just a story, It comes with a strong message!
While listening to it, I felt like I was sitting across from a friend, a friend who's sharing all her feelings, her stories, her experiences, and I wanted to know more and more.. I was listening to her while I was sorting the clothes, Cooking the food and while driving, she was with me, every other day, 1 chapter or another. It was hard to not fall in love with her soothing voice!
I felt deep compassion. So much love. A sense of sisterhood that only motherhood seems to awaken. So much love for this beautiful fellow mum, fellow sister, fellow human. I felt the sisterhood we long for, and what we feel once we become mothers, we feel other mum's pain, we get it, we know what they go through!!
And to you, Camille, I wish you loads and loads of ease, comfort and success, the kind of success that feels gentle and fulfilling. Because you deserves it. Camille's always been courageous and strong!
She's done a beautiful service to humanity, by sharing her feelings in the form of this beautiful book and it comes with one important message, that's buried deep in this book.
I wish every mum reads it or listens to it and gets that message and every father owns the responsibility, to show up for his family and his partner.
And in the end, dear readers, I would wish you to find the secrets kept deep in the cocoon and let the butterfly emerge, from this Book, Metamorph!
Miss Metamorph by Camille Fitzgerald is a memoir and not my usual genre to read, but I was persuaded to give it a try, and I’m very glad I did. From the very beginning, Fitzgerald’s prose is mesmerising. Her writing has an almost poetic quality, rich with emotion and observation, and I found myself completely drawn into her reflections and memories. What surprised me most was how naturally her words stirred memories of my own childhood, as well as thoughts of my own children when they were young. There were so many lines and quotes throughout the book that made me pause, sometimes with a smile, sometimes with recognition, and sometimes simply with quiet wonder. It is the kind of writing that lingers in your mind long after you have put the book down. This is a story filled with raw honesty and emotion, capturing life in all its complexity and beauty. Fitzgerald explores family, belonging, grief, love, identity, and the delicate dynamics of where we fit within the people around us. There is a deeply human quality to the memoir that makes it feel both personal and universal at the same time.
Fitzgerald delivers a memoir that understands transformation as archaeology rather than alchemy: not sudden magic, but patient excavation of layered selves. The continental spanning structure could have felt fragmented in lesser hands, yet Camille's voice provides connective tissue strong enough to bind decades and geographies. What distinguishes this work is the refusal to let motherhood serve as simple redemption narrative; instead, she examines how caring for children while unmothered oneself requires learning a language never spoken to you. The prose achieves that rare memoir balance of poetic compression and narrative propulsion. For anyone who has ever felt themselves becoming someone new while still carrying the old self's wounds, this offers recognition without easy comfort. A luminous, necessary debut.
This was my first time reading a memoir and I could not have read a better one. Camille has such a way with words that it felt like I was right there with her while she was telling her story. I felt like I felt every emotion that she was conveying. I cried, I laughed, and my god was I so happy at the end. I felt so connected to some of the things Camille went through and I learned so much from the things I didn't go through. Her writing is absolutely beautiful and I am so glad she has told her story and the story of her mamá as the both of them deserve to be remembered. I highly, highly recommend reading this especially if you like to learn and grow from another's perspectives and point of view. This book was such an engaging and meaningful way to connect others and every page was just incredible to read.
I expected to be a spectator to a poignant story about a beautiful life, but instead I found myself walking alongside Camille, journeying through chapters that resonated deeply with my own.
The introspective telling of her story is so powerful that I often had to pause and sit with my own memories and experiences, somehow finding encouragement and hope in hers.
Themes of grief, family relationships, the fight for independence, body dysmorphia, neurodiversity, migration, cultural identity, and adult friendships made me linger, sometimes rereading sections before I felt ready to move on.
Written with great beauty and honesty, Miss Metamorph is a strong dose of hope and introspection that leaves you with a deeper sense of kinship with your fellow humans.
If you read one memoir in your life...read this one. Camille's writing is absolutely beautiful and poetic; she takes her readers on a journey throughout her life, and throughout it all, she writes in a way that makes the reader feel exactly the feelings that she felt throughout each and every moment. The reason why memoirs are one of my favorite genres to read is because, in all of the best ones, the author will make it feel as though you are living their life; Camille didn't just make me live it, she made me feel each moment of it.
Thank you so much, Camille, for sharing your story with the world; those of us who have read it are better because of it. You are an awesome writer, and I'm so happy that I got a chance to read what may be one of my favorite books ever :)
This is not my normal genre, but my god am I glad I chose to read this. I am in absolute awe of Camille and everything she has overcome. She has inspired me to open up and be a little more there; if she can do it, so can I!
I cried my heart out, but I also cried with joy. I was with her, through everything. I just wish I could give Camille a hug in real life. I loved the relationship between her and James, so wholesome. You felt the love shining, it was beaming off the page.
I can't wait to see what else Camille has up her sleeve. She's by far my favourite writer this year so far!
Thank you Camille for sharing your book baby with me. You are incredible.
I had the opportunity to enjoy Miss Metamorph in two ways: in print and as an audiobook. I would truly recommend both. In print, we are treated to glimpses of Camille's life through photographs, lovingly curated from the highs and lows she highlights along the way. As an audiobook, her words come alive through her very own voice, Aussie impressions and all. Miss Metamorph was truly a beautiful memoir. Life's victories are fearlessly placed on the shelf directly next to it's pitfalls. Never once are we told how to feel about each experience, instead being asked to simply wade through it alongside a narrator unafraid to be herself every step of the way.
Miss Metamorph is a breathtaking, deeply moving memoir that stays with you long after the final page. Camille Fitzgerald’s story is told with raw honesty, lyrical beauty, and quiet strength, drawing you into a journey of loss, resilience, and rebirth. Every chapter feels intimate and powerful, like reading a whispered truth shared from the soul. Her courage, vulnerability, and unwavering love shine through each page. This is not just a book it is an experience that comforts, inspires, and reminds you that healing is possible. An unforgettable, soul-stirring read.
I was kindly gifted a copy of this book and audiobook from the author. The audiobook is narrated by her and you feel the heart behind the story so much more. This book takes you on an emotional journey, one of love, loss, overcoming grief and finding yourself at the end of it all. Camille shares her story of her childhood and losing her mother. Even when her mother was fighting her own battles she still showed up for her children, every single day. This book is inspiring for that alone.
Miss Metamorph was a poignant memoir from Camille Fitzgerald that recounts her growing up years through her motherhood years with authenticity and grit. I was fascinated by Camille's courage as she fought for herself in a home where refusal to conform was punished. Some of the sentiments she expresses about motherhood were very relatable and I appreciate her openness and sincerity. The writing is lyrical and descriptive and I enjoyed this book very much.
This is a memoir about becoming slowly, bravely, and imperfectly. Camille shares her story with such vulnerability that it’s impossible not to connect with her. The emotional weight of her experiences is balanced by moments of hope and self discovery. A moving testament to resilience and the power of reclaiming your own voice.
What moved me most was the way Camille transforms suffering into a form of self-mothering learning to nurture herself with the same intensity and devotion she gives her children. Her healing is not presented as a straight line, but as a mosaic of moments: painful, beautiful, disorienting, and ultimately redemptive.
