Trouble just walked onto Knox McLemore's ship—trouble with lush curves, red hair and an uptight attitude that both grates on his nerves and heats his blood. But former Navy SEAL Knox knows all about control. Especially when this sexy nautical archaeologist is the only thing standing between his diving team's claim on a famous shipwreck…and utter ruin.
Dr. Avery Walsh is grateful her icy persona hides the effect intimidating (and way-too-hot) Knox has on her. For two people who don't trust—or even like—each other much, the physical chemistry between them is unbelievable. But getting in too deep with Knox is the last thing Avery needs. Because she has a job to do…and dark little secrets to hide.

Her first foray into writing fiction was for a high school English assignment, and not even being forced to ready the love story aloud could dampen her enthusiasm...although it did make her blush. As has often been the case for me with Harlequin’s Blaze line, the emphasis here on the physical aspect of a relationship didn’t entirely mesh with my own preference for a slow burn. The transition from disliking each other to being all over each other felt kind of abrupt, with not as much build up as I favor, for instance, fairly early on these two wind up in a situation where they’re isolated together, which I thought was an exciting plot twist, except it was utilized less to show the kind of team they could be together or getting to know each other on a deeper level, and instead mostly just served as an opportunity to get naked. They do have some deeper conversations later about scarring stuff from their pasts, I thought those scenes were well done and got me a little more on board with their potential as a couple.
Even though the romance in these Blaze books doesn’t tend to be paced in line with my sensibilities, I continue to occasionally dip into this older discontinued line because I’ve read plenty of Blazes where the storytelling itself still manages to engage me and that was the case here as well. I liked that the author gave Avery a very difficult moral conflict to navigate, facing pressure via blackmail, Avery’s career as well as proper care for her sister hang in the balance, those high stakes and some solid action scenes kept the pages turning.
The story begins with a ship wreck salvaging company, Trident, trying to get exclusive rights on the ship wreck Chimera. Enter Avery, who is a nautical archaeologist, appointed by court to ensure that the ship wreck is indeed Chimera or some other ship, as claimed by a rival of Trident. Knox knew from the instant he and is friends hired Avery that she was trouble. And that she had a secret which could be detrimental to their company. However, unlikely events occur, which doubled their sexual tension. Slowly, they open up to each other.
I enjoyed Knox and Avery's journey a lot. It was wonderful knowing about professions such as these as I'd never really known them. The writing style was awesome. The switch between their point of views was neat. The descriptions provided was really helpful imagining the situation, 'cause I've never been in a ship before, only have watched some related movies.
Thought this was the second book in the series, I didn't feel very disconnected from the story as the events of the previous book were mentioned briefly and its impact on the events of this book were explained thoroughly.
I really liked Kira Sinclair's writing, and hope to read more of her work.
I like stories that are enemies to lovers and this one, while they start out on friendly terms, goes to enemies to lovers quickly. It’s okay because the story plugs along at a good clip and the writing is fun, so I had to know what would happen. I’m glad I read this book. It’s hot, but not too hot, and sweet, but not saccharine.
Dr. Avery wants to help with the shipwreck and identify which it is, but Knox has other ideas. He wants to keep her away from the wreck. Unfortunately, there are forces that want these two together, no matter how much they want to stay apart.
I liked the extra threads running through this story—redemption, trust and action–, but I won’t give too much away as to not ruin the plot. Knox and Avery have chemistry, which is great because they get thrown together, but there were times when I thought Avery could’ve cooled it a little. She tried too hard to keep him away. That said, it was relatable. She came across as very human and when she does get with Knox, it’s hot, hot, hot.
If you want a beach read that’s fun, then this might be the one for you.
A great book from M&B. It was something I wasn't sure I wanted to read when I figured out what was going on. I don't really enjoy the whole double crossing stories these go for but it was still a good read.
Rough going getting into the story because the heroine is such a b***h in the early chapters and I considered bailing by chapter 3. Eventually we find out why, and we get why they end up together - both have major guilt issues around siblings. It was Ok but won't re-read. Toasted.
