One Last Shot is a single mom x reformed playboy sports romance. It features a retired Olympic figure skater and an NHL rookie as they navigate a rocky start to a partnership neither of them saw coming. Inside you'll - Teammates to lovers - Forced proximity - He falls first - She's off limitsIris Clark thought she had left the spotlight behind. Once an Olympic figure skater, now her world revolves around coaching lessons and raising her son as a single mom. But when she’s offered a spot on Ice Breakers, a reality show pairing figure skaters with hockey players, she can’t turn down the chance to provide for her son. The last thing she expects is to be paired with Collin King, the NHL’s most notorious playboy.
Collin’s bad boy reputation has his career on thin ice, and Ice Breakers is his team’s last attempt to clean up his image. Women are usually drawn to his confidence, but Iris is immune to his charms. The more time they spend together, the more Collin wants to prove himself to her–both on the ice and off.
Thirteen weeks on the ice and under the cameras, and neither Collin nor Iris can deny the sparks flying between them. Iris is protective of both her son and her heart, and letting someone new in isn’t easy, but Collin is proving he’s worth the risk—and learning that he’s capable of more than he ever realized.
This novel is an absolute standout. From the very beginning, the chemistry between Collin and Iris feels genuine and compelling, drawing you effortlessly into their story. Their relationship unfolds as a true slow burn, but the payoff is well worth the wait, making each moment of connection feel earned and satisfying. Beyond the romance, the book addresses meaningful themes such as emotional abuse and anxiety with sensitivity and depth. Iris’s journey as a single mother to her young son, Jamie, adds an extra layer of heart and realism that enriches the narrative. Overall, this was an incredibly engaging read. The combination of heartfelt character development, thoughtful topics, and addictive storytelling made it nearly impossible to put down. A fantastic choice for readers who love emotional, slow-burn romance with substance.
Ice skater x Hockey player è una trope che non sapevo di voler leggere, e adesso credo di non poterne fare più a meno. Questo libro mi è piaciuto tantissimo, avrei gradito solo un epilogo più lungo (solo perché non volevo lasciarli).
Ice skater x hockey player is a trope I didn't know I wanted to read, and now I think I can't live without it. I really enjoyed this book, I just wish it had a longer epilogue (just because I didn't want to leave them).
This debut from Kobey was a great start to this series - I can’t wait to get the other character’s stories!
Collin is the NHL rookie playboy with a bad reputation with the press so it’s time for media damage control.
Iris is a former Olympic medalist figure skater who post-divorce takes a shot as a partner for a new reality show - hockey players and figure skaters DWTS style.
Their beginning is perfect in how she has ZERO time for Collin’s flirting and charm especially when her jerk of an ex-husband continues to mess with her mental headspace - how can she trust anyone?
I loved the true growth between the two MCs and how he shows her through actions and not just words that he is different and she is worthy.
Her son, Jamie, is just the perfect addition to the story - giving Iris a purpose to regain her confidence and Collin a chance to realize he deserves a shot at happiness.
My one con is that I wish it didn’t give the ex so much time in their growing relationship and how he didn’t really get what he deserved even in the epilogue.
Thank you Luna Literary for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
tropes. - single mom - hockey x figure skater - teammates - forced proximity - reformed playboy - slow burn
short synopsis. iris and collin get paired up for a reality show where they match hockey players with figure skaters. iris is a single mom still dealing with her annoying, toxic ex-husband. collin’s always been a playboy who never really had anything to fight for, and even though he’s naturally insanely good at hockey, he starts realizing there’s more to life than just his career.
my thoughts. i finished it in a couple of hours. i loved the story and how sweet it was. they never rushed anything and actually took their time to build a real relationship. the scenes with collin and jamie (iris’s son) were insanely adorable, i love love love love when men have a soft spot for kids. and their obvious chemistry just made the whole thing even better. the winter/holiday vibes were perfect and made everything feel super cozy.
I think what I liked most about the book was how she got a second chance in life and how he brought out the sparkle in what she thought she had “lost.”
A beautiful single mom + hockey + figure skater book.
I adored this book but when I sat down to write my review, the words wouldn't come. So here almost a week later I am trying again. One Last Shot combines two of my favorite sports. Growing up, I used to watch figure skating religiously wishing that I could skate like that. Now hockey is my sport with Google alerts and app notifications to remind me of games and the scores while I'm at work.
Iris is an amazing single mother who had the courage to leave her abusive narcissist husband. Even though she had given up her career and friendships, she had the strength to choosea better life hor herself and her son. Her mother still holds onto the past letting Iris' ex husband manipulate her. He tries to do the same with Iris, making her feel small and less important than him. Its funny though because she was a world class, Olympic figure skater when they met. Iris was younger and she fell for his lies. Skating was and still is Iris' passion and when the opportunity to skate again professionally was presented to her, she couldn't pass it up. The exposure who help her coaching career and the prize money would help her provide a better life for her son.
Collin was a great hockey player who leaned a little too far into the celebrity lifestyle getting into trouble and having a revolving door of puck bunnies. His image needed a rehab or he could kiss his NHL career goodbye. The team's PR choose a DWTS type reality show pairing a hockey player with a figure skater. Away from the limelight, Collin is a great guy who puts the important people first. He was raised by a single mom and his hockey coach. He was someone who would show up when needed and stand by his friends and family. He wanted to be part of the team. He just got lured by fame and fortune. He loved hockey and agreed to the show so he could keep his career. Hockey meant more than the limelight when faced with losing his contract.
When Iris and Collin were paired together, Collin was awestruck but Iris was unimpressed. She had seen the darkest parts of men and was scared to trust another. She had agreed to skate with him but was determined to keep him at arms length and no outside relationship. As their performances and practices got hotter, the harder keeping things strictly professional became. Collin got to know her son and met her abusive ex. Iris met Collin’s mom and extended family when she joined him on a trip home. Iris got to see the real Collin as the season progressed, while Collin was able to prove that he was more than a headline.
Close to the finale, Collin and Iris faced their biggest hurdle. Their response as a duo and as individuals would effect not only the results of the show but their futures as well. Would Collin be able to keep both Hockey and Iris? If not which would he choose? Would Iris be willing to trust anyone with her heart again? Would she take a risk or play it safe? Would her exes abuse and current manipulations destroy their happiness?
This book was a great read and I enjoyed reading Collin’s journey, becoming who he truly was meant to be. Iris evolved throughout the story as well becoming more fierce and independent while letting Collin support her if she needed. The emotional and verbal abuse dealt by a narcissist can be more traumatic and painful than physical because wounds and bones heal but the mental toll can last a lifetime. Its a sensitive topic but one that so many men and women suffer with in silence.
Thank you Kobey Jayx and Luna Literary Management for the ARC. I appreciate the opportunity to review this wonderful book!
I adore discovering new authors and I thoroughly enjoy reading Kobey Jayx’s One Last Shot. The entire book was easy to read, but held moments of emotional depth and complexities. While full of heartwarming romance, the story deals with resilience, seeing beyond the exterior, and finding joy. Kobey was able to write two MCs that compliment each other nicely and build off each other wonderfully. The addition of the FMC’s son brought a warmth that only a child can. As these two get to know each other, they can’t help but see past the surface and see how great they truly are together.
Iris is a single mother and former Olympic figure skater. She is picking up the pieces of leaving a terrible marriage and creating a safe life for her and her son, Jamie. It is easy to see how strong she is, even when she doesn’t feel it. She is accepted into a reality TV show that pairs figure skaters and hockey players together. Think DWTS but on skates and ice. When she meets her partner, she is focused on winning, not getting lost in his good looks and charm.
Collin is a hockey player who has definitely made a name for himself. Unfortunately that name isn’t always viewed positively. Needing to clean up his image with the press he goes on a reality TV show and is paired with Iris. We soon discover that when the press isn’t looking, Collin is actually a really great guy. He puts others first and has a soft spot for single moms, having been raised by one himself. Collin is immediately attracted to Iris, but Iris has her guard up. As the show continues and they get to know each other on stage and off, Iris begins to see a Collin not seen by many.
I absolutely loved the progression of our MCs, but Collin really took me by surprise. Watching him lean more into his true self and not being scared to show that version made me smile. Iris was a wonderful FMC who truly cares for her son and only wants the best for him. As the show progresses, fans love them together, and everyone can see there is more chemistry than just partners. As they both learn to quiet the voices in their heads and listen to their hearts, they are impossible to not love. This is a wonderful debut novel by Kobey and I can’t wait to see more from her and this universe.
As always, review any author notes before reading.

📚✨ ARC REVIEW ✨📚 One Last Shot by Kobey Jayx ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.25 (4.25/5)
Thank you, @authorkobeyjayx and @lunaliterary.management, for providing an ARC!
When pro hockey player Collin’s Playboy reputation threatens his position on the team, his coach forces him to join a reality TV show that pairs hockey players with ice skaters in a Dancing with the Stars–style competition. He’s partnered with former Olympian turned single mom Iris, who sees straight through his charm. Determined to win her trust—on and off the ice—Collin sets out to prove he’s more than his reputation. But will Iris lower the walls she’s built since escaping her emotionally abusive ex long enough to let him in?
I am such a sucker for a reformed Playboy trope, and this one absolutely delivered. Collin’s growth was incredible—from a man who believed he had nothing to offer beyond disappointment, to someone willing to give up everything for the family he was building. His personal transformation felt earned, and I loved every step of the journey.
My heart hurt for Iris. Her ex-husband continued to tear her down even after their divorce, trying to make her doubt herself as a mother. Every interaction with him made my blood boil, and don’t even get me started on her mother. Iris deserved so much better.
My favorite relationship in the book was between Collin and Jamie, Iris’s four-year-old son. Collin gave Jamie his full attention every time they were together, and it never felt performative or like a ploy to win Iris over. When Collin said he fell in love with Iris and Jamie, I believed him completely.
I also appreciated how the reality TV aspect was handled. Most of the story takes place in practice and behind the scenes, without unnecessary producer drama or manufactured manipulation. Reality TV is messy enough—I didn’t need to read about the worst parts of it.
For fans of: 🏒 Sports romance | ⛸️ Hockey player x figure skater | 👩👦 Single mom | 🔥 Reformed playboy | 📺 Reality TV | 👥 Teammates to lovers | 💖 He falls first | 🚫 She’s off-limits
This impressive, emotional debut novel by Kobey Jax was a nice twist on the popular hockey romance trope.
Iris Clarke is a single Mom and retired figure skater. She's getting the opportunity of a lifetime as a professional ice skater on Ice Breakers, a new reality TV show that see NHL stars swap hockey skates for figure skates. The catch? Her partner is current NHL bad boy Collin King.
Collin is one more bad headline away from being dropped by his NHL team. In order to rehab his image, he's been asked to join Ice Breakers. I really enjoyed following Collin's journey. At first he wasn't sure about the show but I think getting away from the NHL environment was really good for him. You could really see how he was maturing over the week and how his priorities shifted. Collin’s character arc was the perfect embodiment of reformed playboy!
I really liked Iris and following along as she rediscovered her love for figure skating was wonderful. My heart broke when we learnt about our previous relationship and how impacted on both her career and confidence. Watching Iris regain confidence in herself was so inspiring. Iris was doing this not just for herself but also for her son, Jamie.
I really enjoyed the balance of hockey, the tv show and other moments that took place outside of both of those. Seeing Iris and Collin in all of these different settings really and I just to see different aspects of per relationship and reinforced that they do work as a couple. Iris and Collin had to put so much trust in one another in order for their partnership to work in this trust formed the basis of their relationship. This is a true slow burn and their relationship is all the better for it.
Please check the TWs before you dive in!
Thank you to Kobey and Luna Literary for the opportunity to read this ARC!
Thank you to Luna Literary and Kobey Jayx for this opportunity. All parts of this review are my own opinion 💚
TW: Emotional and Mental Abuse. These are depicted accurately and are well written. Some of this abuse is referenced/described from past moments, while other scenes are happening in real time.
When I say Collin is amazing, I mean he is AMAZING. If I weren't married, I could guarantee that I would track Collin down and keep him for myself 🤤😂 And Iris, oh how I feel for her so much. After everything she had gone through, she finally found herself. Not only was she able to find her person, but also her way in life. These two together had me smiling which grew even larger during that first kiss 😍
I bet if you looked at me while I read, you would see hearts in my eyes. Plus, you all should have seen my reaction to Collin and Jamie meeting. It was so heartwarming, sweet, and if I were Iris, I would have gotten baby fever instantly.
Then you have Owen and I swear, I still want him punched for what he did. He was so emotionally and mentally abusive that you could not help detesting him. My hatred grew for him all the way up to the ending, and I hope that one day karma hits him.
“Hell, Iris,” I say softly, the words meant only for her. “The bar is so low it’s in literal hell.”
This fun and flirty sports romance is perfect for fans of Becka Mack, The Cutting Edge, and Dancing With the Stars.
What you will find inside this book: Teammates to Lovers Forced Proximity Reformed Playboy x Single Mom He Falls First Grumpy FMC x Sunshine MMC Forbidden Love (he's supposed to be staying scandal free...so) Slow Burn Hockey player x Figure Skater
One Last Shot is Kobey Jayx’s debut sports romance, following retired Olympic figure skater Iris Clarke and NHL rookie Collin King.
Iris has stepped away from the spotlight, while Collin is known for his playboy reputation on—and off—the ice. When Iris is offered a spot on Ice Breakers, fate (and a few PR emergencies) pair them together as a last-ditch effort to clean up his image… and that’s when things get interesting.⛸️🏒
Collin King is the definition of charm and confidence, but it’s his softness that stands out the most. His interactions with Jamie are heart-meltingly sweet, and the way he notices the small things? Adorable. He’s honestly impossible not to love.🩵🏒
Iris Clarke is incredible. I applaud her for standing her ground, especially when people try to question her choices. The moment she finally stands up to her mother? Powerful. I was so proud of her. I loved watching her find herself, stand her ground and finally confront the people who doubted her.⛸️🤍
Together, Iris and Collin share a connection that feels raw, genuine, and effortlessly real. Their story explores belief in love after heartbreak, rebuilding trust, and choosing vulnerability—even when it scares you. The dedication captures it perfectly. 🩵
The book also touches on heavier themes like emotional abuse and anxiety, handled with care and intention.🫂🩵
Tropes ⛸️ Teammates to lovers ⛸️ Forced proximity ⛸️ He falls first ⛸️ She’s off limits ⛸️ Hockey player × figure skater ⛸️ Reformed player × single mom
This was such a solid debut, and honestly? A really refreshing sports romance.
I loved how this book blended hockey + figure skating without one overpowering the other. The reality-show setup felt fun but also meaningful, especially because it gave both MCs something to prove — not just to the public, but to themselves.
Iris is such a quietly strong FMC. A former Olympic figure skater, a single mom, and someone rebuilding her life after an emotionally abusive marriage — her journey hit hard in the best way. I really admired how the story showed her learning to trust again without rushing her healing. Her relationship with her son, Jamie, was tender, grounding, and added so much emotional depth to the story.
Collin surprised me in a good way. On the surface, he’s the classic NHL rookie with a messy reputation, but underneath all that PR chaos is a genuinely decent guy who just lost his way for a bit. Watching him prove himself through actions — not empty promises — was incredibly satisfying. His growth felt earned, and his bond with Jamie melted my heart.
The romance itself was a slow, steady burn. Iris having zero tolerance for Collin’s charm at first? Loved that. The way their partnership slowly shifted from strictly professional to something deeper felt natural and believable. That said, I do wish the ex-husband hadn’t been given quite so much space — I wanted a little more payoff there.
Overall, this book handled some heavy themes with care while still delivering a heartfelt sports romance. Strong character growth, emotional depth, and a really promising start to a new series. I’m definitely curious to see where the rest of these characters go next.
One Last Shot is a solid debut book for Kobey Jayx. I was interested in the book due to the premise of an ice skating Dancing with the Stars concept. I can’t wait to see where this trilogy goes.
Characters: Collin King Iris Clark
Collin is a rookie bad boy pro hockey player. Iris is a single mom, former Olympic ice skater coming out of an abusive relationship.
Collin is such the example of “if he wanted to, he would.” He went from self centered to willing to give it all up. It’s hard to trust for Iris. Collin and Iris’ relationship is a slow burn. Both undergo a lot of change to get to where they are at the end of the book.
Iris’ son Jamie is adorable. He provides comic relief at times. He also is an important part of understanding how complicated Iris’ life is.
Trigger warning on elements of abusive relationship on screen.

Thank you Kobey Jayx and Luna Literary Management for providing me with an advanced copy of this book!
A new series that I am excited to continue in the future is The Ice Hawks series by Kobey Jayx. The first novel in the series, One Last Shot, is a sports romance that follows Collin, a hockey player, and Iris, an ex–figure skater, who are paired together for a television show.
Although this is a sports romance, it also tackles some heavy topics, including divorce, an unsupportive family, and single parenthood. When it comes to Iris’s situation with her ex, Owen, I could really sympathize with her because it reminded me a lot of someone I know. This person allowed their significant other to isolate them from friends and family, just as Owen gradually did to Iris.
I read this book during a very hectic time in my life, and I didn’t find myself wanting to stop what I was doing to read. That is why this book earned three stars from me. I think if my life had been a little slower while I was reading, it might have rated higher. It was an easy read, which I needed at the time, and it did keep my attention when I was able to sit down and read.
I want to thank Luna Literary and the author for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. I can’t wait to continue the rest of the series.
“This is worth fighting for, Iris. You are worth fighting for.” - Collin King
There are no words to truly describe how much I loved this book! Collin and Iris are pure perfection. Iris is trying to find herself again after divorcing her jerk of an ex. After being under his thumb for so long she’s finally putting herself first. After agreeing to compete in the new reality show, Ice Breakers, she is paired with hockey hotshot, Collin King. From the moment they meet, Collin is down bad for Iris, but Iris doesn’t give him the time of day. Slowly, but surely, Collin works to break down Iris’s walls and shows her how she should be treated.
Collin is strong and steady. Providing all of the patience Iris needs to navigate their relationship, he becomes her safe space. Meeting her where she’s at and excepting her for who she is. The way he adores her and her son, Jamie, made my heart freaking soar. I seriously cannot say enough about this book, except, everyone should read it.
Thank you Kobey Jayx & Luna Lit for the ARC of One Last Shot!
Iris and Colin and everything together! They meet when they are both signed up for a national ice skating television show. Colin to help him revamp his playboy imagine and the problems he’s been having with his hockey team. Iris, to skate again after 4 years.
Colin tries to charm Iris they hay he charms every woman he meets but it doesn’t work. She makes him work for her attention. Colin is incredibly gentil with Iris’ son Jaime and dedicates time to talking to him and spending time with him. He genuinely wants to get to know them both and helps Iris stand up for herself against her horrible ex husband Owen.
Sparks fly between them when Colin invites Iris to spend Christmas with his mom and Hal, so she doesn’t spend it alone.
After some media problems Iris decides to call to quits but Colin refuses to let her go. He wants her and Jaime forever. They get this happy ending and it couldn’t be better!
How can the solution to fixing the NHL’s playboy be a reality tv show?
One Last Shot is everything you want in your next read. It is fun, full of emotion, and has a storyline that hooks you from the first page.
Iris is a single mom that is doing her best for her son while managing a difficult ex-husband. She is sweet, has a great sense of humor, but is uncertain about her self worth. Collin is charming, a little cocky, and hides a softer side that the public never sees.
Iris and Collin’s story has all the elements you look for in a great book. Banter, tension, fun and emotional moments, and heat. These two character will have you falling in love with them and rooting for them to get their HEA. Jayx also gives us some great side characters that support Iris and Collin, and I hope we have a chance to see them again.
If you’re looking for a story you won’t be able to put down, One Last Shot is your next read.
Thank you to Luna Literary for the ARC 📚 I ate this one up in just a few short hours! Couldn't put it down! Loved the writing style and the story following Iris and Collin👌 (and Jamie and Ace of course!) 📚 single mother 📚 rookie nhl star x figure skater 📚 reformed playboy 📚 PR stunt to clean up image 📚 reality tv stint 📚 emotional growth 📚 slow burn and mild spice (for me anyway!) To help clean up playboy rookie hockey player Collin's image, an elaborate PR stunt is agreed upon for him to partner up with figure skater Iris to take part on a reality tv show for charity. One rule... no more PR disasters! Having read many a sports romance, yes it was slightly predictable and the tropes were not unfamiliar however the way the story was written worked really well for me 🙌 Add One Last Shot to your TBR immediately!
Single Mom NHL Playboy cleaning up his act Teammates He falls first
This book stole my heart. I love single mom romances and this one definitely was one to read!
Iris was a former Olympic figure skater who gave up on her dreams when she got pregnant and the man she was with wanted her to get married and raise their son. Now that she is divorced and teaching other figure skaters, she is being asked to star in a reality tv show where a figure skater and NHL player get paired!
Collin is NHLs playboy. After too much bad press and multiple missed practices and meetings, he needs to clean up his act. So he gets thrown onto a tv show and paired with Iris. He wasn’t supposed to fall for her. This was supposed to be easy for him.
This slow burn romance was heartbreaking and everything I needed! I can’t wait to read more of this series!!!
One Last Shot is a heart warming story about Iris Clark, a retired figure skater, and Collin King, an NHL player with the ultimatum to clean up his reputation. The story follows their journey as they spend thirteen weeks on a reality skating show as partners and how they navigate their professional and personal relationship. I love this book! It feels so different from the other sports/hockey romances I have read before. I really enjoyed seeing both Iris and Collin grow as individuals and as a team; it really shows how supportive they are of one another despite what’s happening in the other aspects of their lives. Sometimes parts did feel long and drawn out because the narrative was really a deep dive into the minds and thoughts of the characters but it is still worth the read.
Thank you so much to Kobey Jayx and Luna Literary Management for the gifted ARC! All opinions are my own.
When Iris, a recently divorced mother and former Olympic medallist is paired with Collin, a hockey player hotshot with a terrible reputation for a figure skating reality show, sparks fly on and off the ice. After her divorce, Iris built walls around her heart to protect herself and her son from another heartbreak, but Collin wants to prove himself and her that his reputation doesn’t reflect who he truly is. A slow burn romance that is definitely worth the wait. The story is compelling and draws you in from the very first chapter until the very end with swoony, angsty and spicy moments. Kobey Jayx brings light to real life problems within a heartfelt story. Emotional abuse and lack of self-esteem are beautifully paired with unbidding support and real pure love. Thank you for ARC.
*I received a copy of this book as an ARC. This review and thoughts are mine alone.*
Rating: 5⭐️ Spice: 🌶️
Whelp… this hit a few notes I wasn’t expecting, but how BEAUTIFUL.
Collin is the typical bad boy hockey player, on the verge of being benched, or fired for his latest antics. That is until he’s paired up for a new reality show.
Iris is a tired single mama to Jamie, who is dealing with an abusive ex husband who controls her and belittles her every second he can. She also happens to be an Olympic medalist figure skater, and Collin’s new partner for the reality show.
Watching how patient Collin was, never pushing or making Iris feel less than worthy, and standing up for her was so powerful. She had never had that. From anyone.
I loved this so much

Wow I can’t get over how good this book is! What an absolute incredible Debut 🥰 I’m ecstatic to read more of this series 🤩
Collin is a rookie in the NHL. He’s also the biggest playboy out there. And now his coach is demanding he clean up his act. He find himself signed up for a reality show featuring NHL players and figure skaters. Iris is a retired Olympic figure skater with a 4 year old son. She’s Collin’s partner on this reality show and has zero time for his witty flirty personality. I’m so in love with how Collin treats Iris and Jaimie for the moment he meets her. The way the grow together and start to trust each other is so 🫠😮💨🥵 when Collin sticks up for her to her deplorable ex will make you sweat! It was so good 🤤 Such an amazingly fun and swoony hockey romance!
This one is a 4.5 for me! I love a good reformed playboy story. Add in a single mom who has to guard herself? LOVE IT. Collin does so much to break down Iris's walls, and honestly - it's beautiful. What really won me over was the kid's artwork. Like - be still my beating heart!
There were a few times where the story line started to feel repetitive or there was repeating phrasing, which took me out of the story a little. Overall though, this was a very enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a hockey romance, those of us that like the Dancing with the Stars chemistry, single mom, and reformed bad boys that have to figure out their life FOR HER. Can't wait to read more from this author!
One last shot by Kobey Jayx is a sports romance featuring figure skating Olympian Iris and playboy hockey star Collin. Iris has some baggage following a messy divorce and is offered a reality show spot to pair up with Collin who is on a mission to reform. This warm, fuzzy feel good romance has some low level spice but the best relationship building throughout. It was an enjoyable read that I could not stop until I’d finished. Both main characters had to make some personal growth and let’s just say our MMC was completely and utterly swoon worthy! I loved how involved the sport aspect was in this book. Look forward to seeing where it goes next.
I really enjoyed this book. Collin grew on me a lot, and you can really tell he grew as a person throughout this story. Iris is a very strong FMC, almost too strong, self-sabotaging herself and her relationship at times. I really loved the idea of an ice skating competition with hockey players and professional ice skaters, it was a fun DWTS addition. The only thing that disappointed me about this book, but the third act breakup, I didn’t like how and why Iris did it, and felt annoyed, but Collin pulled it together and did great. This was a great hockey romance with only a small amount of open door spice. 3.75 stars!
there’s just something about that hockey player figure skater trope that I love so much! we had this show here a few years ago called battle of the blades where hockey skaters did routines with figure skaters.. it was so fun! & this book brought me right back to that! 💙⛸️💙 this book is about a single mother figure skater who enters a skating competition (ice breakers!) with a hockey player who’s trying to get rid of his playboy image and show he’s a team player and a good guy.
the two of them are so sweet, so fun and I loved them sm! Colin is sweet, caring and falls so hard for Iris. I loved his growth from his playboy image to the man Iris deserves, putting others first and not being afraid to be vulnerable. Iris is feeling down from a failed relationship, being a former Olympic champion and is so unsure of herself and her skating but that all changes when she meets Colin. I loved the build up of their relationship, and while it’s low spice, it focused more on their relationship, the skating and growing emotionally. Colin was perfect for Iris, and she was perfect for him. I loved how he cared so deeply for Iris and her son Jamie, never giving up on them and showing her true love without conditions is out there. Iris is strong, yet soft and determined to give her son a good life. 💙💙💙 There are some sweet Christmas scenes (which take place on Mackinac island Michigan! A truly magical place I love so much!!) good banter, emotional growth, fun skating scenes, and really sweet moments.
Thank you @lunaliterary.management! This book was really sweet and I absolutely loved it! what a great debut from @authorkobeyjayx! I can’t wait to read more of this world!
💙hockey x figure skater ⛸️She’s off limits 💙he falls first ⛸️reformed playboy 💙teammates to lovers
I adored this storyline! Where there is a reality show that pairs figure skaters with hockey players and that is how our characters meet. Iris and Collin are paired together on Ice Breakers, she isn’t swayed by his charm and his career is on thin ice.
I liked the personal growth Collin went through. He started out as a straight up flirt and ended up such a solid MMC. Showing her he was in for the long haul. Iris had so much trauma to deal with when it came to her ex, he was just a piece of work. But she was a rock when it came to raising her son.
Loved the slow burn between these two. And as time when on, the chemistry was explosive.
