Some love stories don't stay buried, no matter how far you run.

Hazel Pierce has three goals for coming back to Star

Help her estranged dad.Keep things strictly temporary.Absolutely, under no circumstances, fall for Tucker Colburn again. That plan dies a dramatic, soggy death when a rogue wasp sting sends Hazel swerving off the road and into the river—only to be hauled out, half-drowned and furious, by the Star Falls Fire Department's finest. Unfortunately, "finest" is ex–best friend, ex–one-night mistake, and the man she's been avoiding for a decade.

Tucker's always had a way of getting into her head. And now between a family that thrives on gossip and a town that's way too small for all this chemistry, Hazel's running out of ways to avoid the truth. As sparks turn into late-night confessions and slow, toe-curling kisses, Hazel has to decide if she's done running—from her past, from this town, and from the only man who's ever made her feel like home. And Tucker has to prove that this time, he's not just her safe place to crash—he's her always.

FALLING INTO YOU is a swoony, small-town, second-chance romance full of the Colburn family chaos, forced-proximity hijinks…and a grumpy hero who never stopped loving her.

Jill Shalvis is a NYT, USA Today, and Amazon Top 100 bestselling author of small-town romance and romcoms, known for big feels, found family, and plenty of shenanigans.

If you love small-town chaos, meddling friends and neighbors, sizzling chemistry, and heroes who fall hard for the one woman they absolutely did not plan on, you’re in the right place. Jill’s books blend laugh-out-loud moments with emotional gut punches, slow-burn tension, and deeply earned happily ever afters.

She writes the stories she loves to read: small-town romance and romantic comedies packed with heart, heat, second chances, grumpy/sunshine sparks, and the kind of found-family vibes that make you want to move right into the pages. Many of her series are perfect for binge-reading, and a number of her books are available in Kindle Unlimited and at major retailers.

When she’s not writing, she’s probably plotting new ways to torture her characters, avoiding laundry, or daydreaming about fictional men and the strong, complicated women who bring them to their knees—and then making them work for it.

Thank you to Hambright PR and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity to read and listen to an advance copy of Falling Into You, book three in the wonderful Colburn Brothers series by Jill Shalvis.

It was so nice to be back in Star Falls and revisit all the familiar characters from the first two books in this series BUT I think this would work just fine as a standalone. The author gives enough backstory so readers new to this series won’t be lost. The first two books concentrated on Ryder and Caleb, and now we get to focus on the third brother, Tucker. He’s a firefighter along with being the estimator for the family’s construction/restoration business. Hazel was his best friend, and more, when they were growing up, but she left town 12 years ago and just returned recently to help take care of her father, who had a heart attack. She’s a skilled carpenter, doing wonderful “finish” work, so the Colburns hired her for a couple of jobs. Problem is - she doesn’t want to even talk to Tucker. In a small town and a family business, that’s not something that’s likely to happen. There’s a wild scene where Hazel gets stung by a wasp (she’s highly allergic) and Tucker rescues her (she was driving her van when it happened) and gets her to the hospital. That starts the thawing out process - but this is definitely a slow burn. It takes some time for them to really talk to each other and understand what happened between them when they were teens. (Miscommunication/non-communication is not my favorite thing, so it did get a bit frustrating at times.) Hazel’s natural instinct is to run, but can she find enough reasons to stay this time? Will her love for Tucker and her realization that she has a lot of “found family” win over her tendency to run away?

The chapters switch between being told from Hazel’s point of view and Tucker’s, something I really love in a book, especially in a romance. The audiobook is narrated by two people, Lila Winters and Sebastian York, but it’s not a “duet” narration; they each do different chapters on their own.

The side characters are well developed, from Colburn sister Keira, to Emma (we met her in book two), Keira’s adorable twin toddlers, and Tucker’s cat, Her Fluffiness. Tucker’s father, Hank, had been a very hard father but after a stroke, he’s been reduced to a docile, non-verbal shell of his former self. Hazel’s father plays a large role in the story as well, with a couple of surprises near the end of the book.

Note: Be aware that there are a number of spicy scenes.

“I’ve got this ridiculous, insatiable need to be near you,” I murmured. “Always have.”

It’s been a minute since I picked up a Jill Shalvis book. But finishing this one reminded me why I love her writing so much.
I love how Jill takes extreme care writing harder topics, grief and trauma.

I wasn’t expecting to get so emotional but here we are.

We follow Hazel Pierce and Tucker Colburn.
Hazel comes back to town to help care for her estranged father after a major heart attack. She has 3 simple rules, basically get in and get out without seeing Tucker again.

I love the second Chance trope. And after hearing their back story. The grief and trauma Hazel experienced, I was rooting for them so hard.

Tucker is such a good guy, extremely supportive and always has everyone’s back. His protectiveness over Hazel had me swooning. He knew exactly how to make calm her down in those weak moments.
Hazel holds such a sweet spot in my heart. She’s so complex and has such a tough outer shell.
I feel like her character really added emotion to the entire book.

I did an immersive read with this one. The audio was sooo good. Lila Winters and Sebastian York work so well together.

Thank you to Jill Shalvis and Hambright PR for this ARC and ALC.
and PS thanks to the wasp in this story for making these two stubborn people get back together. 😂 🐝 🫶🏻

This is my favorite book in the Colburn Brother trilogy!! The banter, found family, and small town charm were all fantastic. I laughed and cried and am so sad the trilogy is complete. Maybe Kiera will get a book??? Please!!

Thank you to Hambright PR and Jill Shalvis for the eARC and ALC of this book to read and review.

I enjoyed the narrators for the ALC! They have voiced all three books in this series and their voices and cadence are perfection.

I struggled with the miscommunication issues between Tucker and Hazel. They were 18 when she left town (2016ish) and then they both spend a decade not talking (2026). This wasn’t a teen romance in the 90’s, so I am at a loss wondering why two 18 year olds in love didn’t communicate through text or social media on that specific night or in the days after? Why didn’t Tucker ever go find her once he was able? He never chased her. Then when she returns to town, he wants to be in her life now that it’s convenient for him. This all being said, I was let down by the ending. He should have had to finally go out of his way to be with her. It just doesn’t sit right with me how she accepts things.

I loved Hazel as a character! She made me laugh with her witty quips. I also loved getting to see the couples from the first two books, as well as Hank, Kiera, and the twins.

The plot was medium paced throughout with some action scenes. I really enjoy Jill’s writing style.

This book had spice, 🌶️🌶️

Tropes:
Small Town Romance
Second Chance Romance
Found Family
Miscommunication

Overall, this book made me laugh and cry. I loved the banter and found family. This trilogy has my heart, but I needed more from this second chance love story and associated miscommunications.

This was my first Jill Shalvis novel and wow I’m so impressed!
☺️ Thank you to Sourcebooks Casablanca Paperback and Hambright PR for this ALC. As always all opinions are my own.

𝕎𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕥𝕠 𝕖𝕩𝕡𝕖𝕔𝕥:
🏘️ Small town
🔂 Second chance romance
🚒 MMC, Tucker, firefighter
🔨 FMC, Hazel, is a finish carpenter
💁🏽‍♀️ Character driven plot (mostly)
🐈 A rescue cat that is the wing man
💪🏼 Protective MMC
🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 His family is protective too
❤️‍🩹Heavier topics: grief, feelings of unworthiness
Check triggers - they are *slight* spoilers so I won’t list them here
🌶️ 3/5 : There’s a lot of yearning, flirty talk, lead up & maybe two very descriptive scenes.

𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝕓𝕝𝕦𝕣𝕓:
Hazel Pierce has come back home to Star Falls to help with her dad’s recovery from a heart attack. It’s temporary- get in and out without running into her ex, Tucker Coburn. But of course they are drawn together like a cat to tuna. 😜
Can Hazel resist the magnetic pull she feels toward Tucker, toward his family and this town long enough to be able to leave at the end of this? Does she even want to?

𝕄𝕪 𝕥𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕘𝕙𝕥𝕤:
I loved that Hazel was multifaceted: tough & scrappy on the outside but loyal & tender-hearted on the inside. I enjoyed her journey of righting the wrongs of her youth- fixing things she damaged when she was young.

I adored Tucker & appreciated that he was not perfect (but pretty close!). He was fiercely protective and couldn’t turn off that fireman rescuer switch. But he also knew when to give space or just listen. When he messed up he owned it.

Hazel & Tucker together were refreshing. No games and no tiptoeing. They spoke clearly and unabashedly about whatever they were thinking. “I’m going to kiss you now.”
Just honest and frank with each other.
Or Hazel would jokingly compliment him and I thought- oh I would be way too shy to say that! It was fun to read because they never pretended that they didn’t like each other.

My favorite character was Tucker’s rescue cat that would roam the neighborhood at night and then sneak to Hazel’s house with notes on the collar- “Do not feed me. I have a home and I’m just a free loading a$$h*le.” The cat made me giggle so many times! 🤭

The found family element of this story was actually SO BEAUTIFUL. It’s been years since Hazel has been home, yet the Coburn family immediately wrapped their arms around her, took care of her and claimed her as a family member long before she & Tucker could figure out what was going on between them.

This is book 3 of a series but they are interconnected standalones about each of the Coburn siblings. I didn’t read the other books (yet) but never felt lost or confused at all.

🎧 𝔻𝕦𝕒𝕝𝕝𝕪 ℕ𝕒𝕣𝕣𝕒𝕥𝕖𝕕 𝔹𝕪:
Lila Winters & Sebastian York. Lila has an effortless way of speaking that sounds so natural and authentic. I just loved her intonation! Sebastian’s voice took me a minute to get used to as Tucker because it just didn’t match in my head what he should sound like. But once I accepted it, his voice really grew on me for this character & aligned with his firefighter protectiveness.

ARC/ALC REVIEW

We all know how I feel about Jill Shalvis, so I won’t go thru my usual praise up and down on her skills because it’s becoming tiresome and I feel like a broke record. LOL However, with this story, I found it to be really great, but something was missing, and I can’t pin-point exactly what. I KNOW. Complete and utter ridiculousness, but here I am. It’s like that thing that happens when you can picture someone or something clear as day, but the name just hovers on the edge of your brain not showing itself. THAT, that’s what it felt like throughout most of my journey with this story. I’ve thought about. Man, I have thought.about.it! But I still do not have a concrete critique. IT IS MADNESS. Anywho, that’s the 4 instead of 5-star explanation, in case anyone cares LOL.

One thing I loved and appreciated was Kiera getting some sort of happy even if only just a glimpse. I thought Jill would use her character to maybe spin off into a small town series and she still might. Who’s to know *shrug* But in case she didn’t, her some sort of happy in this book satisfied my heart! :)

There’s nothing I didn’t like about this story except there was that thing that I’m not talking about anymore. I think maybe the reason I can’t find the correct words for it is because I’d have to pick at the entire story to even try and get it and honestly, who has that kind of time. No matter what, it’s Jill, so you are going to enjoy it.

🎧🎙️Lila Winters & Sebastian York have been the narrating couple for this series, and I can’t complain about it one bit! I’m still pretty new with Lila and Sebastian still has his quirks (lol), but they have proven to be a really great narrating team with this series. In this particular story I think Lila did an incredible job portraying every single emotion inside Hazel, and there were a lot! Excellent job!

This book hooked me right from the beginning. I absolutely loved the humor and chemistry between Tucker and Hazel. Honestly, Hazel's relationship with everyone in this book was really fun to read because she has so much personality to her.

I flew through this book so fast and it's gotten me excited for more books from Shalvis. This is the type of writing I love to read from her - something lighthearted, humorous and romantic. I hope that Shalvis will stick to this style of writing and this publisher as it reminds me of the first books I read and loved from her.

This book was such a fun and heartwarming read! I flew through this book because it was romantic, lighthearted, and full of small town charm.

This is the third book in the Colburn Brothers series and follows Hazel and Tucker in a second chance romance that completely stole my heart. As teenagers, they were best friends, but after something happened, Hazel left town and didn't return for a decade. When she finally comes back, it quickly becomes clear that the chemistry between them never disappeared.

Tucker was everything I wanted in a hero. A firefighter who has been in love with Hazel for ten years? Yes, please! He is loyal, patient, caring, and willing to fight for the woman he loves. I absolutely adored him.

Hazel was a much more complex character. She is fiercely independent and struggles with believing she deserves love or happiness, which added an emotional layer to the story. Watching her slowly open her heart and confront her fears made her journey feel authentic and rewarding.

The humor, banter, and chemistry between Hazel and Tucker kept me turning the pages, while the small town setting added the perfect cozy atmosphere. Their history, friendship, and undeniable connection made it easy to root for them from the very beginning.

Thank you Hambright PR for providing me a ARC/ ALC before release day.

I loved this small town second chance romance, especially stories where the relationship grows from childhood. These two are soulmates you can feel it but at 18, twelve years ago, Hazel had to leave town with the person she thought was her future, but he never showed up. Now she’s back in town helping her father’s business, but she can’t keep avoiding Tucker Colburn despite how much time has passed. I was completely hooked from the first few chapters and the fiesty interactions really kicked off this story.

Starting with Hazel, I love the line of work she is in and her return to help her father. I felt like a lot was worked through with her father, and that healing was able to happen. I felt sad about how she views the house, the memories, and everything she endured. But the one person who helps her navigate those feelings is Tucker her safe place. No matter the time or distance apart, it feels like they’re right back where they started, but still vulnerable, holding everything close and worried about making the wrong choice. But her returning home was the healing she needed.

I love Tucker he has only ever wanted one person in this world and once we found out Tucker’s reasons, you understood his side and heartbreak. The conversations and the way they opened up to one another were necessary, and I loved that. It was raw and felt so real. This story also had fantastic, tension filled banter and made me laugh. Between the small town gossip, the reputation people never forget, and the suspense mixed in, there was always something keeping me engaged. There were also tough decisions about whether to stay or go, which added even more depth. Watching two people who are clearly made for each other find their way back to one another will always get me. Second chance romances just make me smile.

I also have to mention that I loved the audiobook. I haven’t listened to Lila before, but she was brilliant. I loved her take on the male parts, and she played Hazel so well. And it feels like it’s been over a year since I last got to listen to Sebastian he was brilliant as always, and I loved him in this. Lila and Sebastian are fantastic, so make sure you pick this one up in audio.

I love discovering new authors, because it opens up a whole world of books I still need to explore. I look forward to adding more of Jill’s books to my TBR and hopefully reading more from her in the future.

Thank you to SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

As a fan who has followed the Colburn Brothers series from the start, I'll be upfront: books one and two had my heart completely, and this third installment, while still a wonderful read, didn't quite reach those same heights for me. That said, Jill Shalvis delivers her signature warmth, humor, and small-town charm, and Tucker and Hazel's story is absolutely worth your time.

Tucker is genuinely one of the most lovable heroes in this series - a firefighter with a golden heart who has quietly carried a torch for Hazel for over a decade. Hazel is a more complex character: fiercely independent, carrying real wounds from her past, and absolutely convinced she doesn't deserve good things. Their foundation as childhood best friends gives the romance real emotional depth, and the history between them made the second-chance angle feel earned.

Where the book lost a little steam for me was the constant push and pull between Tucker and Hazel. The back and forth - connect, retreat, misunderstand, repeat- started to wear on me after a while. I found myself wanting to shake them both and just let them get there already. The miscommunications felt a touch overextended, and it chipped away at some of the satisfaction I was hoping to feel as their story built toward resolution.

The supporting cast continues to shine, and getting updates on the previous couples was a delight. Shalvis also brings a bit more emotional weight to this installment than the earlier books, which I appreciated even when it made for a slower pace.

Overall, a warm and satisfying close to the Colburn Brothers trilogy, just not the standout of the series for me personally. Fans who have been waiting for Tucker and Hazel's story will not be disappointed. And yes, I am absolutely hoping Kiera gets her own book next.

Highly recommended for fans of second-chance romance, small-town settings, and found family vibes.

Thank you to NetGalley and Jill Shavis for the BEST ARC EVER.

Falling Into You by Jill Shalvis completely stole my heart. Hazel and Tucker’s second chance romance is full of heartbreak, healing, and a beautifully raw kind of love that lingers long after the last page.

It flips emotional expectations in the best way, giving us vulnerability, grief, and growth that feel deeply real. Even the miscommunication and third-act breakup—usually my least favorite tropes—felt natural and necessary here.

This story hurt, healed, and stayed with me… and honestly? I’m already ready to reread it.

"So..you believe in love now?"
"Yes."
"Because you saw three stars?"
"Because I saw you again."

synopsis: after running from town 12 years ago, Hazel is back after her father's health scare, she has two goals, one not fall for tucker colburn again and two can she change the town's perception of her, make peace with her past and brave enough to stay? Or will she run away again at the first chance she has?

my thoughts: this book is messy it’s full of miscommunication, grief, heartbreak, stubbornness, love, and second chances. this book sends you on a roller coaster of emotions, that makes you want to skip to the end of the book, but also not want the book to end.

hazel: is one hot mess, her fear of rejection, her lack of self-worth her belief that nobody will stay, all of these could be hard to fight. hazel has unlimited sass and stubbornness, she’s willingly making up for her past mistakes and trying to be better.

tucker: is patient, protective and rhetorical fixer always wanting to make things better for everyone else. he has been in love with hazel for as long as he can remember.

the siblings: the banter, the meddling when not needed and the love you can feel it coming off the page

her fluffiness: the way the cat stole every scene it was in, the attitude she possessed, and the way they used her to pass notes was the icing on the cake.

If you love second chances, cozy small towns, funny side characters, meddling siblings and stories about finding your way back home this book is you.

thank you to Jill Shalvis and Hambright PR for the ALC and ARC.

This was Tucker and Hazels story and theirs was perfect for them, but also kinda felt like a long time coming. They were kinda young sweethearts. They were together and then broke up for reasons you learn, but they were both young and with their time apart they did a lot of growing up. And a lot changed in their lives. It wasn’t easy for hazel to come back to her small town though. He dad needed her after he had a heart attack and she needed to come help make sure he was making changes to take care of himself. She didn’t plan to stay long, but of course the heart knows what it wants. And fate sealed them when Tucker saw the shooting stars in the sky even though he refused to admit it. The never lie hehe but they stubborn Colburn men take time to learn that.

Hazel has a lot of baggage and she is one closed off, sealed from the world chickadee. The last thing she needs is a man to save her or try to he the white night of her story. But even strong princess need a soft place to lay their heads. And Hazel has to learn that too.

These twos story really feels like a long time coming home. Lots of cope with, accept and bridge gaps of past pain. Not only with themselves, but as individuals, and their families. They both had semi broken homes growing up and found solidarity and safety with each other. They just have to be willing to open up again to each other. No matter how much hazel tries to hold Tucker back from getting to see all her broken pieces.

There is just something about a second chance romance that gets me every single time, and this one absolutely delivered.

The chemistry, tension, and banter between Hazel and Tucker had me completely hooked. I was rooting for them from the very beginning and constantly found myself wanting just one more chapter.

One of my favorite parts was watching Hazel grow throughout the story. She’d always been someone who ran when things got hard, but seeing her finally face her past and find herself made her journey so rewarding. The storyline with Ricky and everything happening at work kept me guessing, and I loved how the truth slowly unraveled. When you finally learn why she left all those years ago, everything clicks into place.

And Tucker? He completely stole my heart. The way he never stopped loving Hazel and was willing to wait for her no matter how long it took was incredibly sweet. His unwavering love and support made their story feel even more special.

This was my first book by this author, and it definitely won’t be my last. Now I need to go back and read the rest of the Colburn Brothers series because I am officially obsessed.

This is exactly the kind of romance that reminds you why small town series work so well. Hazel and Tucker’s history feels lived in rather than manufactured for drama. Their connection isn’t just “we used to date” it’s layered with missed timing, emotional missteps, and the kind of unresolved tension that doesn’t disappear just because time passes.

The banter is sharp and genuinely funny without undercutting the emotional weight of their past. Tucker carries that classic grumpy, emotionally guarded exterior, but Shalvis does a nice job letting the softer edges show through in quiet, believable ways. Hazel is equally strong as a lead, she’s guarded, pragmatic, but not closed off to growth. Their push and pull dynamic works because neither of them feels flimsy in the conflict.

And as always with this series, the supporting cast is a highlight. The Colburn family dynamic adds warmth, humor, and a sense of community that makes Star Falls feel like a place you actually want to revisit.

Perfect for Readers Who Love

* second chance romance with emotional history
* small-town series with strong found-family vibes
* witty banter balanced with tenderness
* grumpy/sunshine-adjacent heroes with hidden softness
* audiobook romances with dual narration

Thank you Jill Shalvis and Hambright PR for the advanced reader and advanced listening copies of Falling Into You, book three in the Colburn Brother’s series. This immersive read was so so good! The audio book was a duet and done so well!

Small town, second chances, making peace with your past, childhood best friends, excellent banter and emotional depth. This was a great read.

Tucker is such a green flag, always taking care of everyone else. And Hazel is just trying to feel like she’s worthy, enough, belongs. This one had me in my feelings.

This book starts off with a real Sophie’s choice, save your delicious breakfast burrito or your sunglasses 🤣 hilarity ensues from there. This was equal parts swoony and funny.

I really enjoyed it and will definitely be playing catch up with the rest of the series.

OOO I am a sucker for a good 2nd chance romance and this book delivered! After over 10 years away, Hazel is back in town and trying to avoid her ex best friend/boyfriend like the plague. One bee sting, a bit of hot sauce, and a shallow river rescue blew all that up for her really quick.

The banter and tension brewing between Hazel and Tucker was addicting! They had me cackle laughing several times. Yes, I may have wanted to shake Hazel through my kindle and yell "there is a FINE ASS fireman waiting right in front of you girl!!" several times but that's what we love about slow burning tension. Tucker is down bad for his best friend and that man has endless patience for her SWOON.

A perfect summer read for anyone looking for a fast-paced small town romance full of chemistry.

Thank you so much to Hambright PR and Jill Shalvis for the opportunity to listen to this ALC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was my first listen by Jill Shalvis, and it definitely won’t be my last.

Falling Into You was such a quick, fun, easy listen, and Tucker and Hazel’s story hooked me right from the beginning. I loved watching two people find their way back to each other after a decade apart. They were so young the first time around, and in so many ways, they both needed time to grow before they could come back together.

Their banter was perfect, the chemistry was so good, and I ate up every second of it. It’s always so funny when everyone around the couple can see they belong together except for the two people actually involved. Tucker and Hazel had that best-friends-to-lovers history, the unresolved feelings, the miscommunication that drove them apart, and the slow process of finally being honest with each other.

When they finally opened up about how they felt, it made everything so much sweeter. Their story was heartfelt, fun, and nicely executed, and I really enjoyed watching them work through the past and find their way back to each other.

Falling into You has been set up across the entire Colburn Brothers series. We've seen Hazel and Tucker circling each other, careful to avoid contact and to let anyone know why they fell out years ago. I was waiting for this book, knowing I could trust Jill Shalvis to deliver on the setup, and she definitely did.

Thanks to Jill Shalvis for the complimentary ARC of Falling into You.

Hazel Pierce came back to her hometown of Star Falls after her father had a heart attack. She left more than a decade ago and hadn't been heard from since, staying on the move and working as a finish carpenter. She lost her mom as a teenager and lashed out, causing trouble all over Star Falls and earning a reputation as a troublemaker that has followed her since she came back. Coming home has been hard for Hazel. She and her father don't have a great relationship, and the only real work for her is with the Colburn Brothers Restoration Company. Unfortunately, that means working with both her dad and Tucker Colburn.

Tucker and Hazel were best friends as teenagers, which led to something more. When her father kicked her out just after high school graduation, Tucker was supposed to go with her, but he never showed. Tucker had a good reason to stay in Star Falls, but he never got a chance to tell Hazel. She was gone, and he didn't hear from her until she came back to town. Now, every time he sees her, it's like a gut punch. Hazel was Tucker's one that got away, and he's spent the intervening years floating from casual relationship to casual relationship, avoiding commitment. Tucker wants to try again with Hazel. He wants to see if they could be something more, but he knows that Hazel is likely to run if things get real, and he doesn't know if he can watch her leave again. He also knows that he needs to try.

Jill Shalvis never does me wrong. I've been reading her books for years, and I keep coming back for more because she always takes care of her readers. We knew from the previous books in this series that something had gone terribly wrong in Tucker and Hazel's relationship. We didn't know if they were just friends or something more, and we had no idea why she had gone no contact with everyone in Star Falls, but we knew it had to have been bad.

This is a romance novel, but the primary relationship that drove Hazel to both leave Star Falls and return is the one she has with her father. After her mother died, Hazel struggled and acted out, and her father responded with discipline instead of the understanding and help Hazel needed at that time. She turned to Tucker for support as her best friend, who then became her boyfriend, but he didn't go with her when she left despite their plans. You see Hazel struggle with the idea that anyone would choose her after losing her mom, being kicked out by her dad, and getting stood up by Tucker. Those three experiences, so close together, really defined how Hazel sees herself even years later as a full-grown adult. I loved watching her try to figure out how to be a daughter, friend, and partner when she's so unsure that any of those relationships will stick.

Tucker is the third Colburn brother to helm a novel, so we already know a lot about the family dynamics and backstory. As the youngest son, Tucker didn't have the amount of time with their mom that Ryder and Caleb had, and instead spent more of his life with his abusive father as his only parent. I was particularly intrigued by his relationship with his younger sister, Kiera, because he was the last one left in the house with her after Ryder and Caleb left. Their bond has a different flavor than the other brothers' relationships with her. It's more playful, more straightforward, and more natural. It's like they have a shorthand. Kiera is also very close with Hazel, so we see that dynamic on display with her, too. These are people who all grew up together and have a shared experience from which they draw.

Jill Shalvis takes care of us with the romance writing. Tucker and Hazel have so much chemistry that everyone around them is waiting for them to jump each other. They clearly have a connection that goes beyond a traditional romance. They basically grew around each other as kids, kind of like the roots of neighboring plants winding around each other. Hazel and Tucker don't make sense independently, but Hazel has to be the one who decides to stay when she is so used to running. I really loved their dynamic.

This was another great read from Jill Shalvis. If you're trying to find truly exceptional contemporary romance and you're not reading her books, you're missing out. 5 stars.

Ten years apart is nothing when they're the one.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ ½

✦Series: Colburn Brothers, 3
MF Interconnected standalone.
Tucker is the youngest Colburn brother. Hazel is his childhood best friend turned sweetheart who left Star Falls a decade ago without looking back after a heartbreaking miscommunication.

Expect:
• Protective, Firefighter Hero
• Small Town
• Second Chance
• Forced Proximity
• Hurt/ Comfort
• Found Family
• Secrets
• Childhood BFFs to Enemies to Lovers
• Legends that come true

✦POV Dual
I’ve been looking forward to Tucker and Hazel since I first saw them refer to each other on-page. It’s the sort of ‘long time coming’ second chance I gobble up.

They had funny banter- the kind you only get when you’ve grown up with someone and they’re your ‘person’. The way they see and describe each other gave me a giggle and proved how inevitable their relationship would be:
Tucker was exhibit A for a good guy with an asshat streak. He had presence, the kind that drew attention without even trying. Add in a boatload of annoying charisma. And then there was his smile, the one that made you want to slap it off his face one second and kiss it the next.
No one had ever looked as good in a tool belt as Hazel Pierce, a tape measure on one hip, hammer on the other, a walking, cursing, perfectly built hurricane in battered boots. All legs and opinions. Confident in a man’s world, not because someone gave her permission, but because she took up space and didn’t apologize for it.

I struggled to connect with Hazel, though. She came across as immature and weaker than I’d hoped. Tucker is fiercely protective of Hazel; it’s clear from the start he never got over her.

Their journey back together has some twists I wasn’t expecting and once they got out of their own way and talked to each other, I felt like I could root for them.

✦Spice: Open door
Their chemistry doesn’t skip a beat! Giving in to their feelings was inevitable, satisfying, and hot.

» The found family theme shines so bright here! Hazel needs that kind of love to heal, and the Colburn crew deliver it expertly.

✩ Tucker is a cat dad to Her Royal Highness, Queen Fluffiness the First, Sovereign of the Sunbeam Patch, and I would’ve choked if I’d been drinking when I read that. 😹 Her Fluffiness is the conduit for sending each other notes pinned to her collar; as a lover of epistolary elements, that was GOLD!! 🐈

Where this lost star value:

♡ Pick this up when you’re looking for an emotional second chance with ‘it’s always been you’ vibes.

⚠️ Please check trigger warnings.

✨ Thank you to Jill Shalvis for the ARC to review.

Fabulous Story & Narration🎧Captivating & Moving!

Falling Into You
Colburn Brothers, Book 3
By: Jill Shalvis
Narrated by: Lila Winters, Sebastian York

It is great to be back in Star Falls for another wonderful novel, a second chance romance that hooks you in right from the start, captivating your attention the entire time and tugging at your heartstrings too. This third book in the Colburn Brothers’ series is Tucker and Hazel Pierce’s story, a story that stands on its own, though characters from the earlier books appear, and seeing them again is like seeing an old friend, but if you are new to the series everything you need to know is in the details. Tucker and Hazel were close friends when they were younger, shared secrets, helped each other through hardships, and eventually their friendship morphed into something more, or so they thought. Hazel left town without looking back, and did not return until her father’s health scare and incident. While she was away, she made a name for herself with her woodworking skills and talent, and while in Star Falls landed a job with the Colburn brothers, where her father worked, also as a woodworker. She only planned on staying in Star Falls while her father recovered, and she hoped to avoid Tucker as she had for the past ten years, but an incident with a wasp wreaked havoc for her, and a call made to rescue brought out Star Falls Fire Department and the man she was avoiding, Tucker. It was great watching these two get reacquainted, with resistance on her part, but that resistance was futile since Tucker was persistent and determined not to let it go. I found both these characters to have interesting backstories, not always easy, and they each had issues and battles with inner demons, especially Hazel, which took a toll on her and almost cost her the best thing in her life. Maybe they were not ready for each other back in the day, but they never got over each other and could never move on. This wonderfully written and plotted story has the perfect balance of drama, angst, heartwarming moments, witty dialogue and humor to lighten things up, profound emotions, and a slow-burn, but so worth the wait romance. I loved the Colburn family dynamics and the special bond they share, also think it is great that they take care of their father. Jill Shalvis, thank you for another wonderful story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 Lila Winters and Sebastian York continue to do an amazing job bringing these characters to life, giving each a voice that is fitting and believable in every role. York nailed it as Tucker, grasping every aspect of his personality and was a natural in the role. Winters was just as amazing in Hazel’s role, doing the same with showcasing her personality, from her wit to her vulnerabilities, and all in between. Both were fantastic at performing the roles of the side/secondary characters too. Their expressive delivery conveyed all the characters’ emotions, making you feel them all, and they handled the witty, back-and-forth dialogue effortlessly. These two entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to, and their captivating performance keeps you hooked to the story.

Our story begins with Hazel and Tucker childhood friends / sweethearts … after years of being each other’s safe place Hazel leaves Star Falls unexpectedly, no one knows what happened, except maybe Tucker, they’d planned to run away together, except he never showed… and now they refuse to tell anyone in their lives what went down. As only fate would have it after Hazel’s dad has a heart attack she’s back in Start Falls working for him and most surprisingly for Tucker and his Brother’s. Don’t worry Hazel has a plan to avoid things getting awkward: 1. Help her dad, 2. Keep things TEMPORARY & 3. Under no circumstances fall for Tucker (Again). There’s only one tiny problem with her plan: after she’s attacked by a wasp that has Hazel swerving off the road and down into the river, guess who’s the one who pulls her out? MHM Tucker, her childhood / teenage everything, only now he’s grown into a handsome and broody firefighter. So after avoiding him for a decade she’s back to square one, forced to face if her feelings for him have changed, if they might actually have a second chance or if she needs to run again to avoid telling him the truth, if there’s any chance to avoid getting hurt again she’s taking it, after all that’s what she’s been doing her entire life, running. After life changing kisses and confessions Hazel must decide if she’s done running from her past and maybe just maybe from the love of her life, her person, her home.

Let me start by saying I was fortunate enough to not only get an ARC but also an ALC, so I did an immersive reading, I truly devoured this book, I couldn’t stop listening / reading it and finished it in under a day, the narrators did an amazing job at bringing the characters & story to life, the book was fast paced, and the story had me hooked, I was getting Star Hollows vibes in the best way, loved the small town setting and all of the side characters, the found family and actual family that was present since the very start and how everyone kept showing up for each other no matter how hard things got.

This story gripped me and never let me go, it wasn’t just a love story, it was a raw and genuine, it was about second chances, growth, forgiveness and about finding the people and place you want to call home. The characters felt flawed, and real, they made mistakes but wanted to learn from them, I feel like the way Jill Shalvis writes made me feel like I was part of the family, like I knew them and was rooting for them to work things out. I also just want to say Her Royal Highness Queen Fluffiness the first Sovereign of the Sunbeam Patch (yup that’s the cat’s name) added so much fun and whimsy to the story, I couldn’t get enough of her sassy self!

Favorite Quotes:
🛠️ “What I said about us being friends, it wasn’t just for my brothers. In my head, I needed to believe it, because otherwise I’m falling for someone who might leave again.”

🧑‍🚒“When I needed a space to breathe, he built it. When I needed air, he gave it. And when I was drowning, he was the one who pulled me out. When I needed a reason to stay, he was it.”

This was my first Jill Shalvis book and it certainly won’t be my last! If you love books about second chances, loss and grief, childhood sweethearts, small town romances, found family and actual family then this is the book for you!

The last Colburn brother to fall. To be fair, Tucker fell for Hazel many years ago, when they were still teenagers. But Hazel left town, basically ghosting Tucker. She’s been back through the course of this series, and it was obvious these two were more than best friends. Now it’s their turn to have their stories told and find their HEA together.

While I did enjoy this book, it didn’t hit the same way the previous books in the series did. Now, I must admit I read this one directly after some extensive oral surgery, while still in pain. But I didn’t fully follow the way the relationship between Hazel and Tucker played out. There was a lot of up and down. Hazel is known to run from her problems while also lashing out, so a lot of the roller coaster is understandable. The crumbling of their budding relationship all those years ago had a lot to do with them not having some honest talks about where they were in their lives. So, again, it makes sense that things aren’t smooth sailing now. Yet, I often felt they were actually talking things out and got confused when one of them would abruptly pull back. Whether it was Hazel misconstruing something that was said or Tucker treating Hazel with kid gloves instead of being more direct in his speech.

The overall vibe of this book was excellent. I loved seeing the Colburn family so gelled. From the other brothers and their newfound happiness with their significant others, to the little sister finding her way out of her grief, to the family’s rallying around Hazel as her found family that she forgot she had when she ran away as a teenager. Tucker and Hazel love each other deeply, no matter their problems. Watching Hazel grow in confidence and learn what family really means was fantastic. There was no lack of chemistry between the main characters, and Tucker played the hero role to perfection.

Here’s the thing…there are certain authors that avid readers will come to rely on and expect a certain level of writing from. For me, Jill Shalvis is one of those authors. Every writer has a dud here or there, and this is by no means a dud. Yet it didn’t reach my expectations for her usual work. I felt there were things that were left dangling. The whole issue with Hazel’s dad confused me, as I didn’t feel he was a sympathetic character, and didn’t feel the way he reacted to Hazel and spoke to her at times was ever fully resolved. I felt the emotional turmoil that was present in the previous books regarding Tucker’s father was missing in this story, even though he was the catalyst for the separation of Tucker and Hazel in the past. I just didn’t feel this story was as tight as I’m used to with this author.

I still had a wonderful time with this series. I still enjoyed this book, too. It was good, when I expected great. I think it will work for many people in a way it just didn’t work for me.

Hazel Pierce owns Pierce Custom Woodworks, a business she started after returning to Star Falls. On her way to a job site, a wasp sting causes her to crash her van into a river. The man who comes to her rescue is the last person Hazel wants to see. She and Tucker have history – one she has no desire to revisit or repeat. However, things do not go as Hazel plans. Will she find a reason to remain in Star Falls? Or will her complicated feelings for Tucker send her running once more?

Tucker Colburn is a firefighter for Star Falls. Between shifts, he also helps at his brothers’ restoration company as their project estimator. Tucker is the one who finds Hazel after her accident and rescues her. He knows that things between them are complex and unresolved. But Tucker cannot help his instinctual need to protect her. Can he trust his heart to Hazel? Will Tucker convince her to stay? Or will history repeat itself?

Hazel and Tucker both endured painful childhood. Tucker grew up with an abusive father and the loss of his mother. Hazel found herself spiraling out of control when her mother passed, which caused her to do some things she later regrets. They truly are kindred spirits.

Hazel’s sarcasm and sass is her defense mechanism. What I truly like the most about her is the way she makes up for her teenage mistakes. She does it willingly. Tucker has defenses of his own. He feels this need to rescue people. I love how Tucker has always believed in Hazel, even when their relationship becomes strained. He always wanted the best for her.

FALLING INTO YOU is the third and final book in Jill Shalvis’ contemporary romance series, COLBURN BROTHERS. The story can standalone. However, reading the first two books will help readers understand the Colburn’s dynamics. The past that continues to haunt all four. Why they feel like they are defected and broken. I love seeing the couples from the prior two books play important roles throughout the story. It made it feel like an extension of their own stories.

Generally, I am not a fan of the second-chance trope. However, I like how Shalvis handled this one. The beginning of their second chance begun in the background of the first two books…

The only nitpick I have is I wanted Kiera to have her own book. Sadly, that does not look like it will happen. Her “romance” feels like a loose end that is pushed into the story, a side note. Honestly, I feel like Kiera got cheated.

Thank you NetGalley, Sourcebooks, and the author (Jill Shalvis) for the opportunity to read this ARC.

FALLING INTO YOU by JILL SHALVIS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Falling Into You is the third (#3) book in the COLBURN BROTHERS series.

Hazel Pierce is returning to Star Falls a decade after running away from her disastrous life, in order to care for her ill father.

Unfortunately, an ill timed altercation with a wasp results in her swerving off the road straight into the river and she is horrified to realise that the man hauling her to safety is her ex-best friend, ex-one night stand and the man that broke her heart.

Hazel has always had Tucker Colburn’s heart. When she left Star Falls she took his heart with her, but this time he’s determined to prove to her that not only does she belong here but she belongs to HIM. This time he’s determined not to let her run….

——————————————

Falling into you is a delightful second chance, slow burn romance packed full of emotions, heart and chemistry with some great lighter moments thrown in there.

Tucker is a quintessential swoon worthy firefighter hero, with a heart of gold, who never got over his childhood friend and love of his life leaving. He goes out of his way to help everyone. He has some residual issues relating to his childhood

Hazel is a strong, independent woman but has many emotional issues relating to her past. These mean that she tends to run rather than face issues when she is uncomfortable.

The chemistry between the MCs is off the charts and there are some light, spucy moments.

There are plenty of interesting side characters including Tuckers brothers and their partners, Hazel’s dad and an opinionated fluff ball by the name of Her Royal Highness, Queen Fluffiness the First, Sovereign of the Sunbeam Patch.

This book is full of emotion, pain, chaos, hijinks and humour. The banter between the Colburn brothers and their partners is very amusing giving some much needed relief in the harder moments.

I did find the constant misunderstanding- silence- apology roundabout with the two MCs a bit tedious after a while. It was frustrating and went on a bit too much, leaving me wanting to bang their heads together at times.

I read an ebook copy of this interesting book, with around 400 pages (print copy), excellent editing and a colourful, pretty cover. It releases on August 14th.

With thanks to Jill Shalvis and Hambright PR for an early chance to read this delightful book. All comments are my own honest, unbiased opinion.

It’s been far too long since I had the pleasure of Sebastian York in my headphones… and what a way to fix that. 🎧❤️

Falling into You completely swept me away. While Lila Winters was a new narrator for me, she was the perfect complement to Sebastian York. Together they brought Tucker and Hazel’s story to life with so much emotion that I never wanted to press pause.

Even though this is book three in the Colburn Brothers series, I jumped in without reading the first two and never once felt lost. Instead, it felt like being welcomed into the heart of Star Falls… and now I absolutely need to go back and experience the rest of the family.

Tucker and Hazel’s story is everything I love in a second-chance romance. Childhood best friends. First loves. The one that got away. A decade of hurt, unanswered questions, and feelings that never really disappeared. Their chemistry was undeniable, but it was the quiet moments, the vulnerability, and the history between them that completely captured my heart.

Hazel’s return home isn’t just about facing Tucker—it’s about confronting the memories she’s spent years trying to outrun. Tucker, meanwhile, never stopped being the steady, caring man who simply wanted Hazel to know she always had a place to call home. Watching them slowly peel back years of hurt and finally choose each other was emotional, messy, frustrating, and incredibly rewarding.

Now… I won’t pretend the miscommunication trope is my favourite. I definitely found myself wanting to sit Tucker and Hazel down and tell them to just TALK already! 😂 But in this story, it genuinely fit their emotional baggage and the lives they’d lived apart, making their eventual healing and happily ever after feel earned rather than rushed.

And can we please talk about the matchmaking cat? Every small-town romance deserves one. 🐈✨

Jill Shalvis has created a town that feels like home, filled with characters you instantly want to know better. Add heartfelt family dynamics, witty banter, plenty of emotional moments, and two fantastic narrators, and this became an audiobook I looked forward to escaping into every day.

⭐️ If you’re looking for a heartfelt small-town romance filled with second chances, childhood sweethearts, family, healing, humour, and a love worth fighting for, I can’t recommend this one enough.

Thank you to Hambright PR for the ALC and eARC. All thoughts are, as always, my own.

Yes! This is the Colburn book I have been waiting for. Through the previous books there has been this friction between them

And as we learn more about them and their past, you could understand it.

But man, the miscommunications, the decade of not talking to each other and the way they are around each other, making it harder for all around them - gees, it did grate on me eventually.

Talk. To. Each. Other! This is my real big bug bear in my stories.

I did like how they - eventually - sorted their crap out, but it was a bit of a slog at times.

I loved seeing where the other Colburn boys were in their lives, and the extended family they are making for themselves.

There were a couple of things that took me by surprise too.

It is sad to see the end of the Colburn Brothers, but I sure do hope we get more of Kiera's story in the future.
