His Dark Claim: The Eternal Ruin Book 1

Rate this book
He stole me on the day I was meant to be saved.

Zagreus Vitale. Merciless, untouchable man who murdered my fiancé and made me his bride in the same breath. To the world, he’s a killer without conscience. To me, he’s the monster who ruined my life.

But monsters don’t whisper in the dark, now, do they? They don’t bleed. And in spite this, they don’t look at you as if you’re both the curse and the salvation they crave.

Every kiss feels like a warning. Every touch, a claim. And the closer I come to hating him, the more I fear I’ll never escape the hunger of wanting him.

Because sometimes the man who destroys everything you love… becomes the only one you can’t live without.
In his darkness, I may find the light that destroys us both.

His Dark Claim is a twisted, addictive dark romance featuring a morally grey anti-hero, a forced marriage, and a love story
born form past and obsession. This is Part I of a Duet, with an HEA at the end of Part II.

I will start thia review by saying Please make sure to read the trigger warnings at the beginning of the book. I really wasnt sure about reading this at first, just two chapters in and i honestly thought it wasnt my type of story. I have to say I was totally wrong, one chapter went to two then i was half way through. I really couldnt put it down, and must say I have so many questions left unansweted. Celestine comes across as a scared woman, but I think she's hiding a strong character that even she doeant lnow she's hiding. Zagreus is a tyrannt of the worst kind. Hes a ghost hiding in plain sight. But when nobody is watching he cares deeply for Celestine. But theres a fine line between love and hate. How far will he go to protect her. What secrets is he keeping from her. Will Celestine ever regain the memories from her childhood. I am really in need of the second book and hope that give me all the answets i need.

His Dark Claim leans fully into dark romance vibes, and it knows exactly what it’s doing. From the start, the tension is heavy and a little unhinged, and that intensity carries through the story in a way that kept me turning pages.

The dynamic between the main characters is messy, possessive, and morally questionable—which will absolutely work for the right reader. I appreciated that the book doesn’t try to soften its darker elements or pretend the characters are something they’re not. The chemistry is strong, and the push-and-pull between them was engaging, even when it was uncomfortable.

The pacing was mostly solid, though a few scenes felt repetitive for me. That said, the spice is plentiful and fits the tone of the story, and the emotional stakes do ramp up toward the end.

Overall, this is a dark, intense read that delivers on obsession, control, and forbidden attraction. Recommended for readers who enjoy morally gray (or outright dark) romances and know their triggers.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you to Luna Lads, Trifold Publishing and BookSirens for this ARC.

This is the first in the series.

His Dark Claim gave me Beauty and the Beast feels, if the Beast was danger incarnate. I enjoyed that it was told from Celestines view and that the writing was more like peeping into her private diary of thoughts and feelings. As much as you want to hate Zagreus for everything you can't help but feel for him.

I am looking forward to the final book to see what happens in the world of Zagreus (still don't know how to pronounce his name) and Celestine. There are still secrets to be discovered.

If you can look past the triggers and enjoy a read with hot sex and a storyline this may just be the solution to that itch you want to scratch.

Dark, intense, and unapologetic, His Dark Claim pulls you in fast and does not let go. The tension is constant, the atmosphere heavy, and the power dynamics are front and center.

Celestine is a compelling FMC, emotional, defiant, and painfully human. The MMC is cold, dominant, and morally black, creating a dynamic that is unsettling and addictive. Their chemistry is dark and volatile, built on obsession rather than comfort.

This is not a soft romance. If you enjoy dark romance that leans fully into control, danger, and morally gray territory, this book delivers.

Thank you to Luna Sads and Trifold Publishing for the opportunity to ARC read.

Some of the triggers please be aware

Kidnapping, captivity, forced marriage, graphic violence, obsession, psychological manipulation, dubious consent, and references to trauma.

This was my first time reading Luna Sands, and I’m a bit torn on this one. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it either—it landed somewhere in the middle for me. I definitely preferred the second half of the book, which felt more engaging than the slow, dragging start.

I struggled to connect with the FMC, Celestine. I found her more annoying than relatable, and it made it hard to fully invest in her journey. The MMC, Zagreus, is very much the typical grumpy, stoic, possessive male lead, which may work for some readers but didn’t feel especially fresh here. The romance itself felt lacking in tenderness; the intimacy leaned heavily toward rough sex, with Celestine often waking up in pain, which took away from any sense of emotional connection between the characters.

Overall, the story felt like it dragged and still didn’t fully explain enough—especially regarding Celestine’s lapsed memories, which I wish had been addressed more clearly. That said, despite my mixed feelings, the ending was intriguing enough that I plan to read the next book because I do want to know what happens next.

Thank you for the ARC

The story is a maze of buried mysteries and secrets. While reading it your mind will instantly jump on questions like Why and What. Story progresses with female protagonists' view point. You'll see the male protagonist through her lens and he will not let you settle. Mr. Vitale, her enigma, her ruin, somehow her saviour too. The ending will leave readers to seek answers for unanswered mysteries, maybe in the second part of the book they will be revealed.

A thrill read with lots of spiciness and definitely a book that will linger on until every secrets are revealed. Do read and enjoy His Dark Claim.

Her career, her relationship—her entire life—was perfect… until Zagreus Vitale turned everything upside down with His Dark Claim. This book is drenched in mystery, obsession, and spice, and it is emotionally devastating in the best possible way. It’s the kind of dark romance that sinks its claws into you from the very first page and refuses to let go—even long after you’ve finished reading, just like Zagreus refused to let Celestine go until the very end.

The only reason I’m not giving it a full 5 stars is because there were a few moments that felt repetitive and others that dragged a bit. But honestly? I still can’t wait for book two.

Luna, keep me on your ARC list, because I need book two in my hands ASAP. I’m ready to dive right back into this intoxicating, addictive dark romance.

This book was not just a story — it was a rollercoaster of obsession, secrets, betrayal, and heat.
There were so many twists, so many unexpected turns, and every chapter pulled me deeper until I wasn’t reading anymore…
I was owned by the plot.
And then — the wildest part?

The male lead POV only shows up in the last chapter.
Just one chapter.
Just enough to ruin my sanity and prove that everything before it was just the beginning.

When a dark romance hero speaks last, it’s never closure —
it’s a promise.
A promise that there are still things hidden.Still secrets buried.Still emotions unspoken.Still fire waiting to burn.

That ending wasn’t “The End.”
That was foreplay.
And now I’m sitting here thinking:
If Book 1 felt like this…what chaos is waiting in Book 2?
This story is intense, haunting, emotional, and dangerously addictive — the kind of book that doesn’t leave your mind, even after you close it.
If you love:
✔️ Obsessive morally-gray men
✔️ Tension that feels like electricity
✔️ Twists that punch you in the chest
✔️ A slow but deadly unraveling of the male lead
—then this book will consume you.
And honestly?
I want more.
I need more.
I’m not done — not even close.

His Dark Claim

!! ARC REVIEW!!
Read the description of the book, read the content and trigger warnings. This book isn't easy, nor sweet but hot, dark and darker, like pitch black. I would also know your kinks...If you still dare to read hold on to your panties.

Mafia romances are not always predictable and this one is no different. A dark, delicious introduction to the world of Zagreus Vitale, where power is everything, secrets are weapons, and obedience is required. I devoured the book. I was hooked from the beginning. The tragic back story is unfolding and bam
Holy Cliffhanger...Wow! Can't wait for book 2.

ARC Review, thx Luna Sads

Luna Sads is a new to me author, and I was so excited to read the book. The cover and the tropes sounded exactly like my kind of thing, but unfortunately, I just couldn't get into the story at all; I had to force myself to keep reading. I couldn't connect with FMC; she was just too shallow and sweet for me. She doesn't stand up for herself and simply accepts everything she has to endure because of MMC. And I would have liked to know why MMC does what he does... There are also a lot of distracting errors, like spelling and punctuation. The storyline is slow-burning and ends on a cliffhanger. I'm not sure if I'll read the second installment.

Obsess. Hunger. Devotion.

This dark romance is deep, rough and unsettling.
Zagreus and Celestine are twisted and flawed but, just like every human being, they long for connection.

He’s dark, intense and unpredictable.
She’s strong and can’t deny the dangerous attraction and connection towards him, despite his merciless actions.

Their love is not conventional. It’s cruel and consuming. A love that can destroy and can save.

Secrets. Betrayal. Twists.

An addictive story that keeps you invested in knowing what goes on, what happened and what unfolds with all the secrets.

An emotional rollercoaster that I can’t wait to continue!

I’m going to be completely honest here.. it was a VERY slow start. I was bored for a bit there, with the repetitiveness of their back and forth.. love hate love hate. The constant confusion. Then it started the get interesting and I started to realize small little clues that kept me glued to see if I was correct… turns out I was and now I’m even more invested to know what happens, what happened, and what will unfold with all the secrets.
Basically, this is why I do not “DNF” books because you never know what will happen, especially if you give up.
I definitely recommend reading this book and just remember, if it seems slow to you as well.. keep going. It gets better and now I need a second book to see what happens!!

If you like a lovable MMC then this is not for you… if you like a dark MMC who is obsessive, Controlling and depraved then this is for you.

The FMC is sweet, kind & a little bit lost and when she encounters zag everything changes, he reckons that she's too vulnerable to know the truth of why he does what he does. There seems to be some big mysteries surrounding celestine and her mother who died but isn't dead… celestine feels lost, how does she navigate a world she doesn't understand, a husband who is so hot and cold and rules she was never told.

This is part of a duet you'll have to read the second to know what happens next.

This definitely surprised me. In the beginning of the story the female main character is at an art gallery selling her art . She doesn’t know she is getting stalked by her future kidnapper. This man is literally obsessed with her he brought all her paintings for millions of dollars. She leaves the gallery to head home to celebrate her anniversary with her fiancé a walks into her fiancé murdered in her apartment. She tries to run away and call the police but her kidnapper grabs her and gives her a sedative. She wakes up tied up in a chair and chained to the floor. He forces her into a marriage by threatening her family and friends lives . This is a dark romance . Definitely ends with a cliffhanger.

The storyline had great potential. From the first chapter, I wanted to be captivated, but then I just could NOT climax from there on. I enjoyed the characters, but I couldn’t truly “visualize” most of them, for majority of the book. I needed more mind illustration, less repetitiveness, and I needed more of HIS pov. There were MANY mistakes. I noticed many spelling, incomplete sentences, and punctuation errors that left me frustrated, but I’m extremely pleased I made it to the end! Even though the ending left me confused, sitting on a cliff hanger, I would love nothing more than to give BOOK 2 a try if there were to be one! I feel like that book has the potential to be a 5 STAR ♥️

🔥🔥🔥

Celestine’s life is shattered the day Zagreus Vitale, the man who killed her fiancé, forces her into a twisted marriage. Despite his darkness and merciless reputation, she can’t ignore the dangerous attraction and haunting connection that grows between them. In a story full of obsession, forbidden desire, and moral grayness, Celestine must navigate a love that could destroy them both.

This book had an interesting concept and I really wanted to get into it, but a lot of it felt slow and dragged on. Celestine, the main character, annoyed me more than she engaged me. She’s sweet and lost, but I couldn’t connect with her at all. There were moments that could have been gripping, especially with Zagreus being dark, intense, and unpredictable, but I wish there had been more insight into his perspective to make the tension land better.

Zagreus is intense, dark, and completely unpredictable. If you’re looking for a sweet, charming hero, this definitely isn’t the book for you. He is more morally dark grey vs pure black, but he is riding the edge. I would have really appreciated more of his perspective to understand his motives and see why he does the things he does, especially with all the secrets and mysteries surrounding Celestine and her family. It could have been written to still hide the secrets, but I really wanted to know how deep his obsession goes, and it would just have been more interesting. On top of that, there were quite a few distracting errors, like spelling, punctuation, and awkward sentences that pulled me out of the story more than once. However, this is an ARC, so I am forgiving in that aspect but still took me out in moments since I felt the plot suffered some from this lack of editing. As in, I would be confused on how a scene was playing out because nothing matched up to what was going on.

Even with all that, I made it to the end, and the cliffhanger actually left me curious to what really is happening, but I don't know if I really will read it. There’s a lot of potential here, and with tighter writing and a bit more focus, this book could be more intriguing than I found reading it.

⚠️ Content Warning: This book contains kidnapping, violence, forced marriage, and dub-con bordering on non-con. Please read the trigger warnings before starting.

His Dark Claim was one of those books that completely blindsided me. I struggled through the beginning… and then suddenly I couldn’t put it down… and then when I finished, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Luna Sads is a new-to-me author, and her writing style is hauntingly effective, especially with the use of a deeply unreliable first-person narrator. The story constantly makes you question what’s real, what’s manipulation, and what’s desire and that tension becomes just as addictive as the romance itself.

Zagreus is unapologetically dark, obsessive, and morally grey to the core, while the FMC is caught in a brutal push-pull between hatred and desire. She despises him for what he’s done… yet her body keeps betraying her, and that internal conflict is the heartbeat of this story. Their relationship is toxic, possessive, and psychologically intense, but that’s exactly what makes it impossible to look away. Every interaction feels like a power struggle wrapped in chemistry.

The pacing starts slow but once it hits its stride, it hits hard. I stayed up way too late just to see how deep the spiral would go and now I’m dying to read Part II because with the promise of an HEA, I need to know how Luna plans to untangle this beautiful disaster.

The spice is frequent, shocking, and emotionally charged rather than graphically explicit, but the consent dynamics are intentionally murky again, please read the warnings if this is a sensitive area for you.

This was one of the most confusing-but-addictive dark romances I’ve read in a long time, and I’m absolutely hooked for the rest of the duet.

First things first - Loved Luna's writing style. I have read only dual POVs so far so I wasn't sure if I could stay invested in just FM's POV throughout the book. But I did and I liked it.

Now let's start with the review - The story starts with a very dark note of blood/murder/kidnapping and eventually a forced marriage. So it glues you instantly. Celestine finds her fiancé dead on their anniversary and gets kidnapped by Zagreus Vitale. His obsession with her is undeniable. She doesn't even know him or atleast she doesn't remember knowing him. Among the angst, anger, grief and being caged, there are secrets of her life that only Zagreus knows, and he refuses to unravel them. The middle section of the book felt slightly dragged with Celestine's repetitive feeling/monologue about being caged. the fight between her body and mind, her question her life, who she really was. That said - she does take some brave steps in a few chapters that finally give her some clue.

The last few chapters were amazing and fast paced. We get a glimpse that Celestine might have a stronger character (the one she doesn't remember) and Zagreus, oh man, I wasn't falling for this man but I did. To name this Dark Romance might not do justice, this is Dark Love. And I wanted to explore more but it ends on a cliffhanger.

Things I Loved
• Zagreus’ dialogues—sharp, commanding, and unforgettable.
• My love–hate relationship with the riddles he played. Frustrating? Yes. Entertaining? Absolutely. They added intrigue and kept me hooked.

Things I Expected More From
• While this is dark romance/dark love—and I enjoyed that—but the initial chapters leaned more toward lust.
• How quicky Celestine started feeling something for him, especially considering everything he put her through. I would have loved to see him earn that shift in her emotions a bit more before it happened.

I went into His Dark Claim knowing it would be dark, but I was not prepared for how completely it would consume me. From the very first chapter, Zagreus Vitale pulled me into his ruthless world and refused to let me go. This is not just a dark romance — it’s a story drenched in obsession, power, and emotional conflict.

Zagreus is everything he’s promised to be: merciless, terrifying, and utterly magnetic. The forced marriage trope is handled in such a tense, emotionally charged way that every interaction between him and the heroine feels dangerous and intimate at the same time. I loved how the author slowly peeled back his layers — the way he claims her, protects her, and yet remains a constant threat. He’s a true morally grey anti-hero, and I couldn’t stop questioning whether to fear him or crave him.

The chemistry is intense, raw, and addictive. Every touch feels like a warning, every kiss like a declaration of ownership. What truly stood out to me was the emotional push and pull — the hatred fighting desire, the trauma clashing with longing. The internal struggle of the heroine felt real, painful, and heartbreakingly honest.

I literally stayed up all night reading because I had to know what would happen next. The ending left me desperate for more, and I am already counting the days until Part II. Knowing this is only the beginning of their story makes the wait both thrilling and torturous.

Thank you so much to the author for trusting me with an advance copy of this book. It was an unforgettable reading experience, and I am beyond excited to continue this dark, twisted love story in the next installment.

Highly recommended for dark romance lovers who enjoy obsession, forced marriage, and dangerously irresistible anti-heroes. 🖤🔥

Celestine came home to find her fiancé unalived by a man named Zagreus, who kidnapped her and forced her to marry him.

The start is intense. I was so angry at Zagerous; he was cruel and controlling. But over time, I realized that there was so much more to him and to the story. It's cloaked in mystery, full of secrets and will leave you in suspense. I ended up loving him and his true devotion to Celestine. I also appreciated that there wasn't any over-the-top drama.

Zagerous ended up being protective, dominant and very possessive of Celestine. He knew there were dangers she was unaware of, and he was going to ensure she was safe. And Celestine was resilient and strong in her own way. She was confused as to why he was keeping her and why he unalived her fiancé.

I had theories of the twists I knew would eventually come, and I can't wait for book 2 to see how it all plays out.
I really loved this book - I couldn't put this book down!! If you're okay with the TW/CW's, then I highly recommend!!

ARC Review:
⭐️⭐️⭐️½
🌶️🌶️½

“Secrets have a scent. And his smelled like leather, whiskey, and blood. Sinfully dark.”

This was a well-written, intense, and fast read full of mystery and emotions. The book opens with a prologue from Zagreus’ POV, then the rest of the book is single POV from Celestine. She is living her happy life until it is abruptly taken from her, and she’s brought to an island where everything changes.

The first 50–60% felt slow as Celestine is forced to accept her new reality. There’s a lot of spice, so check your TWs—IMO *dub-con* is a very loose term here.

I’m still undecided on Zagreus: powerful, dark, broody, and cryptic. His feelings toward Celestine are intense, but whether they’re love, hate, or something else remains unclear.

The story is very thought-driven as Celestine tries to figure out and understand what’s happening to her. Then comes a cliffhanger. Frustrating, but not unexpected at 85% and still so many questions to be answered. We get some, but also get more questions, and the ending is clearly setting up a book two from Zagreus’ POV.

Despite the frustration, I was intrigued. This is my first book by this author, and I really enjoyed the writing style. I’ll definitely continue with book two. I need to know the connection between Celestine and Selene (is it what I think it is?), what’s going on with her mother, Adrian, and Elena? There’s got to be more to her story. How did she end up as a servant to this man? And this Lazarus business?? So many questions…

Thank you to Luna Sads for letting me in on an advanced read of this book. Trusting your process, but imma need some answers though. 😉

I enjoyed His Dark Claim overall, especially because dark romance is very much my lane. The MMC was undeniably intense and darkly compelling, definitely one of those characters you know is morally questionable, yet still fascinating to read. While many readers may disagree, I felt there was reasoning behind his actions, and that layered darkness is something I personally look for in this genre.

That said, I struggled a bit with the FMC. Her emotions and trauma felt valid, but I wished she had resisted longer given what she endured. For me, her giving in so quickly lessened the emotional impact and tension that could have made her arc even stronger. I wanted to see more fight, more internal conflict, and more time for that dynamic to fully develop.... especially in a story this dark.
I don’t usually focus on grammatical issues, but there were quite a few that pulled me out of the story at times.

Still, despite those moments, the book kept my attention from start to finish. I didn’t DNF, which says a lot, and I remained invested in where the story was heading.

Overall, while this wasn’t a perfect read for me, it was engaging and intriguing enough that I’m genuinely interested in continuing the series. I have a strong feeling the second book will be even better and may earn a higher rating from me.

This was a dark romance that was a quick and easy read that kept me flipping the pages and wanting to know what happens. There's enough draw from the "who is telling the truth" and "what is actually going on here?" that keeps you going and wanting to find out the real story behind Zagreus' silence and refusal to share. Ends on a hell of a cliffhanger - so be ready for it! 🕵🏼‍♂️

4 Chili Peppers - Dubious consent, excellent dirty talk, graphic on the page sexy encounters, and a red room that I am HOPING gets utilized in the second book make this one an excellent smutty read that any dark romance girly with a love for an obsessive and controlling MMC will die for! 🥵

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC, and I understand sometimes editing errors and such happen in ARCs - these were not related to my rating at all. I will say, the story could heavily benefit from an editor if one wasn't used. It reads as if it were translated to English from another language or the author is a secondary English speaker - not necessarily bad but it does make for a lot of confusion in certain areas of the book (one scene where they were in a dining room and mid conversation are transported to a cemetery for instance) and a lot of unnecessary explanations in the story (the shortened [be]cause is used a lot to explain things that can be easily inferred by the reader, for example).

I enjoyed the book enough for the ride that it was, but I don't think I'll be continuing with the series.

The book was everything I didn't know could exist in one book
The guy Zagreus Vitale is Dark ,and when I say dark, I mean dark dark
The story is the Rollercoaster of all the emotions the FMC is feeling
Celestine is a very relatable FMC
she isn't like a normal girl who is somehow very brave ,No
she is scared ,tried, and is going through all the mixed emotions after getting kidnapped and knowing there is no escape
The book is mainly written in the FMC's pov with only one MMC pov which is also the last chapter of the book it doesn't only show his side of the story but it also says that it's not the end its just the beginning the beginning of the angst ,hatred and desire the book holds
And to say about the spice, the book contains smut, a good amount of it actually
the book is not recommended for anyone below 18+ and also read the warnings as you should know what you're diving into but if you are ok with it all you are going to experience the whole new type of a book

First of all, the cover completely stole my heart and I was so excited to dive into this world. The story follows Celestine, a girl trapped in danger and darkness, and Zagreus, a ruthless man who decides she belongs to him. There is blood, passion, secrets and a fate she never asked for. The storyline has potential and the dark setting is interesting.
But honestly, I didn’t enjoy this book like I thought I would. Celestine’s character made me frustrated the whole time. She keeps suffering and just accepts everything. I prefer strong and fierce heroines in dark books. There is always a limit to how much one should just endure and she never reaches that limit. It made me annoyed while reading.
Zagreus was the only reason I continued. His obsession and his backstory kept me hooked. That is why I didn’t DNF and pushed myself to finish. And yes this ends on a cliffhanger and there will be a second book. I don’t think I will continue the series.
I will not recommend this one easily. If you want to try it, please check trigger warnings before you read. Thank you book sirens for the free ARC.

Where do I even start with this one?
I went in a little nervous after seeing people say this book was “too dark”… but PLEASE, this book is brilliant. 🔥

We follow Celestine and Zagreus — she’s living her quiet artist life with her boyfriend when Zagreus steps in and stakes his Dark Claim, and from there… buckle up.

No spoilers, but OH. MY. WORD. This story had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Our MMC? Hot, scarred, damaged, and unapologetically possessive. He kidnaps our FMC and from that moment forward… you just have to read it to experience the chaos, the tension, and the obsession.

Celestine starts off a little frustrating (I wanted to shake her more than once 😅), but her growth is real — slow burn strength, genuine development, and by the end, you actually root for her. Zagreus, on the other hand… he made me furious in the beginning. Like full-body “sir, absolutely not” energy. But then? The unhinged, dark, mine-coded moments hit, and as a dark-mafia girly, I was fully obsessed.

This was a solid 4.5⭐️ for me.
It’s book one in The Eternal Ruin Series, part of a duet, releasing 16 December — and I cannot WAIT for book two. Manifesting another ARC because I’m hooked.

I devoured this book in TWO DAYS and highly recommend grabbing your copy the moment it drops. 🖤📚
