The Death Ring Mystery

Rate this book
All Twyla wanted was tea and cake, but she got a curse instead.

With a talent for walking the realm of ghosts unharmed, Twyla Andricksson is sent to a country asylum run by the Morpheus Society to help those who have lost their minds. For only Twyla can visit the ghostly plane without consequences, and with her talent now revealed to all, the Society sends her on a rescue mission.

“She told us she is headed to the Blanc Lys where they murder people by flaying them alive!”

Twyla protested, “I never said that!”

Twyla is the last chance for a woman who will wait for eternity for her dead husband, and for a young man held captive by his grandmother's ghost because she needs help with her knitting.

“My mother does not let me host dinner parties for fear of a fire breaking out or all the household staff quitting.”

Twyla has always affirmed she would never marry, so faced with a horrible ghost who has decided to make her his bride, she might do something desperate. Like host a dinner party, something her mother has strictly forbidden.

Twyla always does terrible things with great enthusiasm for very good reasons.

The Death Ring Mystery is part 2 of the Morpheus Society Case File series. The female protagonist,Twyla, is uninhibited in what she says or thinks. She’s young and a bit naive but she is almost fearless when dealing with ghosts and bullies. Which she does with great wit and total disregard for society’s rules. I love reading about Twyla’s misadventures!

This series is a sequel to Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries series and should (for the readers enjoyment and avoiding spoilers) readers should read MCGH series first.

I received an ARC copy from the author and even though I wasn’t required to post a review, I wanted to offer my honest, voluntary impression of the book.

This was the second book in a new series by Byrd about Elinor’s apprentice, Twyla and the mishaps that befall her as she handles and solves the cases that come her way!

She seems to always do things with great enthusiasm for good reasons even if initially they don’t work out how she’d intended.

While her mentor is away she is tasked with going to the rest home where others have gone after being in the Beyond too long and leaving their minds there. Since going and returning are no problem with her, she’s been tasked with trying to bring back two minds to re inhabit their bodies. No small task as they don’t want to go back even though their bodies will die and they can’t go to the Afterlife if that happens!

Through trial and error she succeeds with the help of the ghost from the first book and her ingenuity!

She is tricked by a person trying to get rid of a ring on her finger and transfers the ring to Twyla and now she is saddled with a ghost she doesn’t want. Together with the friends she’s made at the rest home they plan a party for this ghost at his insistence with hilarious results resulting in the ghost never bothering her again!

Twyla is too eager and hasn’t learned to be patient and think things through yet wanting instant success without the hard effort behind it. She means well but again she finds she needs to think things through and when she does the solutions are there for her!

I enjoyed this second book as much as I did the first and happily recommend it to all for an enjoyable romp with ghosts and the imaginative mind of Byrd to put smiles on your face as you get a glimpse of how the Beyond may be for those stuck in limbo who haven’t transitioned to the Afterlife yet.

If you enjoy paranormal fun and experiences let Byrd entertain you with her series- some which will totally mesmerize you from their inception!

I enjoyed this book and believe you’ll enjoy it as well!

An Adventurous Mystery!

Twyla gets way more than anyone can handle when she is sent away at last to the sanatorium to put her special skill to work. She may have done what is expected once before, but that doesn't mean she can do it again. It also doesn't mean it will be as easy as the first time. The Morpheus Society seems to think she can produce miracles! Not only that, but disaster strikes during her journey to the sanatorium, she encounters an irritating yet suspicious acquaintance she will wish she had done better to ignore, and an angry spirit makes an appearance. By the end, you might actually feel sorry for the angry spirit.

This is a fantastic addition to The Casebook Files of the Morpheus Society. I devoured it in one sitting!

😂😂😂😂😂

Only Twyla would get caught with a cursed ring, take one look at its ghostly owner, and go: lemme show you all the ways you'll REGRET cursing me.

I can't 😂😂😂 what a way to end 2025 with a bang!

Her forays into the Beyond and her heroics at solving the Society's problems really get pushed to the side while she deals with the bullying ghost haha.

I LOVE her and can't wait for more adventures with her!

Twyla sounds like a spoiled brat, but she is quite effective in breaking curses and getting rid of obnoxious ghosts. She is also quite devoted to Madame Chalmet. The characters in this book are quite interesting, the plot is straightforward, and the premise is Twyla trying help to find the lost souls and bring them back. She was quite effective on two fronts and proved to be someone I would never want angered with me. I definitely recommend this book and look forward to the next one.

I love the situations that Twyla gets herself into! It takes her a while but she always comes up with a way to fix it. In this one I absolutely love how she solves it. A must read. I hope there are many more books!!!
