The Bloom After the Bullet

Rate this book
She was always his flower. He just had to survive long enough to bloom beside her.

After walking away from the only man who ever truly saw her, Lotus vowed to choose peace—even if it meant burying the love that once set her soul on fire. But peace was never part of Mula Westwood’s design. When the storm cleared, all roads still led back to her.

Between new dreams, old betrayals, and buried secrets clawing their way to the surface, love has never been more dangerous. But it’s also never been more worth it.

Because some stories don’t start with a happy ending—They fight for one.

Fitting Title

Bloom after the bullet is a fitting name for the book. It's about flourishing and opening up. It's a vulnerable time as well since the flower is delicate as it blooms. This book is a Cowboy Romance, a hint of a small town and all 2nd chance. And we are watching as their love flowers, opens again in that delicate hour. Sunshines Urban Novels is a good author. Her word play is usually delicate and beautiful. The relationship here felt grown. The conflicts were real. And we have our solid archetypes: Hood Cowboy and the Strong but Delicate Ride or Die.

Both fit well together and all that tension the first 30% is from Lotus moving on with Marcus (hello fiancé) and Mula having to come through because 🫶🏾 is due. The friendship crew is tight and they play a decent role. My only couple of complaints and it's all me:

1️⃣ violence wasn't ever on page. We get sex, good dick downs, dates and convos but when the rubber meets the road and it's time to see someone regulate we don't actually view it. Maybe the command but definitely not the action.

2️⃣ the Kingpin leaving the game for good is never a fav microtrope of mine. So Mula settling debts to get out the game was a little deflating.

🤠Gold grillz + pew pew + horses
🤠2nd chance romance
🤠Married Couple romance
🤠Hurt/Comfort

Oh I live for a Dewayne Wayne moment!!! This book was perfection in my eyes….the way Kross loved Lotus out loud unapologetically was everything. He loved her fearlessly, warm, soft, obsessively in a good way. Lotus my girl you have my heart! The way this book was written, it made you take your time. I felt every word Kross said to Lotus…oh to be loved unconditionally 😫 The betrayal from her mom was unexpected, Bria was a jealous hoe and Marcus was understandable 😂 but trying to be Kross was delusional now

Messy love🧐

This was another good story, but it was a bit(maybe more than a bit) messy. Lotus mom was strange. How you tell him to go get back with your daughter, then get mad about it and try to have him locked up?

Kross "Mula" Westwood is the man! Mula and Lotus were high school sweethearts set to be married until Mula pushed Lotus away in the name of protection. Six years pass and Mula is ready to get Lotus back.
This is a story of forgiveness, betrayal, and learning to accept help. Another Sunshine hit!

This is love

Mula and Lotus were a refreshing soft love story. Normal ebbs and flows, nothing too crazy. Just lots of love and grace in growing together

Baby I was not ready for a man like Mula! Lotus ran from him for a good reason, but Mula was like aht aht you’re not going anywhere! When I tell you that this man was NOT willing to let her go! And I’m happy he didn’t! There were some twists and turns that were very shocking, but Sun knew how to keep us going!! Just remember that originality can NEVER be duplicated and Mula definitely showed us that! He was the man!
