Hiding in my small town in Maine is no longer an option. I have to go back to Chicago and deal with the fallout of the scandal that cost me my family and my career. Avoiding Tanner Weston is a perk! We’re like fireworks—spectacular in the dark, but plain dangerous in the cold light of day. He tossed me aside so he could focus on reuniting his broken family. I understand.
I wasn’t expecting a warm welcome back home, but I didn’t anticipate running straight into trouble. When I find myself up to my neck in danger—again—it’s Tanner who comes to my rescue. No explanation given. Gloriously arrogant as ever.
Now, we’ll have to join forces and find a way to close the door on my past once and for all.
I can only hope we’ll get it done before it drags Tanner and his innocent, younger brother into the darkness that once nearly destroyed me…
Gravity, book 2 in the Saltwater Trilogy, is a fast-paced, hurt/comfort, M/M romantic suspense featuring two men with nothing in common but an excess of emotional baggage. If you love grit, heart, a good redemption arc, and a hard-won happily ever after, dive into the Saltwater Trilogy today.
alcohol addiction, mention of off-page SA (side character), aging parent with dementia
Eighteen years ago, AG Meiers came to the US for adventure and stayed for love. Currently, she lives in New England with her husband and two awesome kids—balancing work, friends and family, and writing.
As a writer she loves to put her characters through a lot of challenges, conflict and heartbreak, before she allows them to find their happy-ever-after.
1st person, past tense, single PoV (Sean) Sean Kelley (36), police officer at the Bedford PD Tanner Weston (32), VP of Online Reputation Management for CONTEGO, Inc.
This is the second book of a trilogy following the same couple/characters, it should not be read as a standalone, you need to read Riptide first.
After the events of the first book it is evident that someone from Sean's past is still holding a grudge. Finally! We get to delve deeper in to Sean's history and really get to know him both within the context of his family and his derailed Chicago PD career. It was pretty heartbreaking at times - the scenes with his mother and aunt especially, but knowing he's found his place in Bedford, ME took some of the sting out of things. It was nice to see that for as bleak as the life he left behind had become, and how necessary it was for him to get away, he still had people in his corner, even if he didn't realize it.
The overbearing mother hen, Tanner, is still trying to manage everything, and much to Sean's consternation as things heat up he needs the help. To the delight of this particular reader Tanner really seemed to shore Sean up when he needed it most and it goes a long way to endearing him to us. As helpful as his money and influence could be, it's his steadfast presence that has the most effect, something that it would do Tanner well to realize himself, but I imagine with a third book forthcoming, he'll get there. The author did a great job of showing how much conflict and upheaval he was feeling through his actions and words even if we weren't privy to his thoughts and feelings.
These books have made me want to read more suspense. I can't wait for the third book to release.
I was given an ARC and voluntarily wrote an honest review.
4.5 stars - The story picks up where the previous one left off with Sean heading back to Chicago to visit his mother, seeking answers about his past and heeding Tanner’s “request” to give KC space to strengthen the relationship with Tanner and Bee. Now that it seems someone is after Sean, it all leads back to Chicago. There is a lot of back story that involves Sean’s past and how he ended up in the small Maine town and why he has the issues he has today.
It doesn’t take long for Sean to run into trouble there, but Tanner is not far behind to help him out. There is a lot of tension with these two aside from everything going on with Sean and his family issues. Sean knows better and has to remind himself about Tanner’s rules but he finds it more difficult as time goes on to keep his heart out of the mix.
Fortunately, Tanner has really been thrown a loop with his feelings for Sean. And then there is KC who is in the middle of it all. Needless to say, there is a lot going on here, but it is easy to keep it all compartmentalized and they all tie in together as the story goes. Reasons for their various actions are understood as it plays out and things ramp up with the intensity of finding the stalker trying to take out Sean and where it is all really coming from. I’m fully invested at this point and looking forward to the conclusion in book 3. It seems we still have a number of things to learn and questions that will be answered and A.G. Meiers has done a great job of laying it all out with just enough breadcrumbs to keep you wanting to come back for more.
Oof, what a story we get for the second in the Saltwater Trilogy! Meiers had their work cut out for them with the way Sean and Tanner were left at the end of Riptide. Tanner had ripped out our beloved Sean's heart. Gravity picks almost immediately with Sean running back to Chicago, loose ends and his mother but really just running. It was almost painful watching him deal with the pain of his former life. But he finds he does have friends and family. Unfortunately, Tanner shows up, ugh. And he actually helps out, bigger ugh. I want to continue to dislike him. But nooo, AG lets him open up, be vulnerable, ugh. And their chemistry is still off the chart.
"One kiss and I burn. From shimmering heat to liquid fire in three seconds flat. I don't even have words for it because it's off the scale." "Words like passion and desire had no meaning until I laid eyes on you." "We deserve tonight."
So good. In Chicago, we meet those friends and those who are truly his family. Of course Bedford is still full with wonderful characters...KC and Bed, Rose (need her story), Joan and Chase. Most of the story is told 3rd person from Sean's POV but the epilogue is in Tanner's POV and ugh, it's lovely. Two of their mysteries are resolved but one is left hanging and another is hinted. My dear AG, could some of my secondary characters get stories?
Second in series (The Saltwater Trilogy), must be read in order. Semi-established couple. Small town. Found family. Hurt/comfort. Slow burn. Single POV. Heed content warnings.
Immediately starting from where book 1 ended, Sean is in Chicago trying to tie together why someone from his past might have tried to kill him while leaving Tanner behind. When Tanner follows him and helps, they clash while attraction overrides their hesitations all over again.
I am still overly invested in this series, Sean being such an empathetic character as he tries to overcome his past to start trusting his own judgement while navigating the pitfall of his interactions with Tanner. Luckily we get some redemption from Tanner, he finally communicates more with Sean and admits his faults and errors. It was nice to see Sean reconnect with some people in Chicago, and getting more information about his past, but being back in Maine is where the story really feels more comfortable as they are surrounded by their found family. Cannot wait for the finale to this trilogy, as I’m sure Sean and Tanner will face more obstacles before getting a well-deserved HEA. 4.5 rounded up
Gravity delivers exactly what I crave in romantic suspense: deeply flawed, achingly human characters wrapped in a fast-paced, high-stakes plot. Tanner and Sean carry scars, guilt, and vulnerabilities that feel painfully real, and watching them collide—and reconnect—made for a deeply engaging read.
In the second book of the Saltwater Trilogy (better read in order), Sean returns to Chicago to unravel a past he’d rather leave behind. A.G. Meiers does an excellent job weaving suspense/mystery with hurt/comfort romance. While the first book focused on red-hot attraction, Gravity dives deeper into trust and love, even as Sean and Tanner face escalating danger and adversity.
A fantastic book and impossible to put down. I immediately pre-ordered the final book in the series.
Gravity is the second book in the Saltwater Trilogy and must be read in order. This is a slow burn, hurt/comfort, suspenseful read sees us back with Sean and Tanner. I really enjoyed this story and can't wait for the conclusion. I do recommend checking the content warnings if you have any triggers.
Gravity is the second book in A.G. Meiers’ Saltwater trilogy. The books are intended to be read in order and this review may naturally reveal plot points of the series.
