Thanks to the author for providing a copy of this novel. As always, the opinions expressed are all my own.

Insurance investigator Nathalie Seeger's most recent assignment leads her to engage with master thief, Eli Cross. Her father spent years trying to catch Cross, and now Nathalie has her own shot at him. However, Cross is more than just a thief, and Nathalie finds herself intrigued. Eli Cross always enjoyed the cat and mouse game he played with Nathalie's father. Even though Nate Seeger has passed away, he finds a new challenge in his daughter, Nathalie. Eli decides to include Nathalie in his latest game, but the real prize may be including her in his greatest moment that has always eluded him in the past.

Chasing the Goddess is an entertaining story that combines romance, mystery, and suspense in equal measure. The characters are interesting and fun but need to express a bit more emotion to be completely empathetic. While the story is told in 3rd person omniscient point of view and most of the perspective shifts are expertly handed, there are a few that are a little jarring and temporarily take the reader out of the story. Even though art and jewel thefts make for a fast paced plot, and there are a few twists and turns throughout, some of the very descriptive language leans toward telling versus showing. Overall, though, Chasing the Goddess is a delightful novel that could easily be the beginning of a long running series.

Chasing the Goddess was an excellent mystery book that just left me with a few things I wish were different in the end. The story follows insurance worker Nathalie Seeger and how she tracks down the elusive thief Eli Cross, but family complications arise, making her realize that the history between them may be more than she sees.
Froehlich did a great job of making me want to know what happened next, in various parts of the book there were moments when I would get upset at a character's actions, before having the truth unveiled a few chapters later. This was pretty fun and kept me on my toes.
The book started out very strong, and hooked me instantly with its first few scenes. I love Nathalie as a character, and though some parts of her need some work, coming from a male writer, this is very impressive. I just had a few issues on how relationships were portrayed or thought of, Eli Cross seems to charm every woman and repeatedly we read about how both Nathalie and her best friend, Megan, would drop their panties for him, which again, because this is a male writer, throws me off a little. Of course Eli can be attractive to many, just the way it was written was a bit strange to me but not a big deal and it's not something I would complain about.
My main issue is the buildup to the climax, there were a lot of great scenes and it was very well written, it just seemed disjointed at time. It felt as if the author had a lot of ideas that he wanted to include and wanted to write them down all at once, making it flow uncomfortably.
One of my favorite parts was the climax, that was beautifully executed and so was the resolution. The book caught my attention at some parts, but I also lost interest in some pages where it was mainly too wordy and information dumping.
I loved the each of the character's and their various personalities that really made them feel like real people, for example how Megan feels jealous of the secretary that works at her company because she seems so perfect, it's a very realistic portrayal of similar feelings I've had before and I was able to relate to many of the characters.
Overall the book was extremely well written, there were no grammatical issues I could find along with spelling errors, and the plot was fleshed out in a way that I could tell what was going on and follow along very well. The romance was also a fun aspect but I wouldn't say it was the main purpose of the story being written. If you're looking for a fun time with a refreshingly new book, read Chasing the Goddess!
Thank you to LibraryThing and the author for providing me this book, I had an excellent time reading!

I received an advance copy of this book. Thank you

I was excited to receive this book, jewel and art heists, an independent, go getting female investigator, a mysterious and dashing suspect...a lot to like. While I did enjoy the book, there were times I thought the author had so many great ideas brewing in his head, he'd get ahead of himself, and forget to fill us in. Nathalie Seeger is an independent investigator hired to protect/guard an event, only to have the jewels displayed there disappear in plain sight. The prime suspect is Eli Cross, who has never been caught by anyone, and the bane of many a law enforcer's existence; including Nathelie's now deceased father. Nathelie studies her father's notes on Eli and gets to know him, all the while feeling like there's more to him and more to his actions than what he lets out. There are other players, and are they working alone or with Eli?

The characters lacked something, maybe more development, maybe consistency, I'm not sure. At times there was no feeling of connection, even though they were sharing the scene. I feel the author pictured exactly what he wanted to portray, but somehow got sidetracked.

I love the strong, intelligent, and witty female characters in this book. Nathalie Seeger is a freelance private investigator who feels in competition with men. Her bestie, Megan Hollister, is a graphic designer, talented but riddled with insecurity. Nathalie's career is in jeopardy because her security team botched a job guarding precious jewels that were magically stolen right out from under them during a gala event. The main male character is Eli Cross, an international master thief and the chief suspect in the heist. The dialogue sparkles. The characters are really engaging, and in this battle of wits there’s a lot of humor. This is a clever story with many twists and turns. I like that it makes you think but is also an emotional rollercoaster. The romantic element builds slowly and then hits unexpectedly. It says this book is the author’s first solo novel, but he's had a distinguished career writing in film & TV. I hope he writes more. This one was fun! I highly recommend it!
