I love me a silver fox but this one really kinda missed the mark for me. It seemed kinda all over the place and disjointed some sentences felt like they repeated and some scenes felt like they didn’t actually end. The addition of Winchester and Nova seemed out of place and just kinda dropped into the middle of the story for no particular reason except to set up the next book. Also the ending of the Vane plot point was super anticlimactic.

OPEN ROAD is the fifth instalment in Kathleen Kelly’s contemporary, adult RBMC: JACKSONVILLE FL MC romance series, part of the multi-authored RBMC. This is MC nomad Roam, and singled mother Janie Dawson’s story line. OPEN ROAD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary .

Told from three first person perspectives (Roam, Janie, Winchester) OPEN ROAD follows the building relationship between our story line couple. Janie Dawson is on the run with her three year old daughter, having left an abusive relationship in the middle of the night but when the car breaks down, Janie has no place to go but the help of the man with whom she will fall in love. Roam is a nomad, and has never thought to put down roots but rescuing Janie Dawson and her three year old daughter Rose, gives Roam pause for the future but Rose’s past is about to collide with the RBMC, when they discover a connection to someone else.
The world building focuses on the protection and integration of Janie and her daughter Rose. Janie struggles to trust although she is quick to accept Roam’s help and protection but it is her daughter Rose that is the catalyst to melt the ice around Roam’s heart, a man who never thought about his future beyond his next ride.
The relationship between Roam and Janie begins as a roadside rescue. Roam sees immediately that all is not well in Janie’s life, and becomes guardian and protector of the woman that will call to his heart. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, energetic and dynamic secondary and supporting characters including most of the previous story line couples. We are introduced to Janie’s ex Craig as well as a questionable business partner that takes aim at the RBMC.
OPEN ROAD is a story of introspection, self-examination, and contemplation as Janie must deal with the fall-out of her marriage and her husband’ s business actions, as well as Roam’s desire to settle down with our story line heroine. The premise is dramatic and edgy; the romance is limited but seductive; the characters are desperate, determined and charismatic.

Ooh Roam. Roam, Roam, Roam, Roam, Roam! How can I explain how perfect he is and how well he, Janie and Rose are perfect for each other? I'm so grateful that I was able to get an advanced review copy in reciprocity for my honest review, because Kathleen has done it once again! She has written me a new Book Boyfriend! Or should I say, a new Book Zaddy? Yeah, we'll go with that!
This is Kathleen's 5th book in her Royal Bastards MC: Jacksonville Chapter, and it has provided everything we've all come to expect from this series; sexy alpha bikers, strong heroines, criminals and other shady characters, and of course, a romance that may appear as a slow burn to themselves, but on the inside, their love began to burn at first sight! In this case, at 3am on the side of a dark road.
We're aware that Janie has taken her daughter, and now they're on the run from her abusive husband. Now, Roam was just minding his business, getting to where he gotta go when he passed them, gave it a second thought, and then offered his assistance. It's evident that Janie is initially distrustful, considering it's a big burly biker asking to help you, but she has to consider her most prized possession. Her daughter.
As with all of the RBMC Jacksonville books, their compound has become a safe haven to those who need it, especially if there's a child involved! A first in the series if I remember correctly. Now, let me tell you, Rose is the absolute scene stealer of the story! I thought the addition of a child to the MC world might be a little.. unagreeable? But she fit right in! And guess who turns into her favorite person?
Roam has always been a nomad, but now he has a reason to stay. He is kind, patient, doesn't judge, and to me is a very serene person to be around. The exact opposite of what Janie has become used to. This is one slow burn I didn't mind waiting for. On to a different side of this story, we get a few chapters of Winchester's POV. A little peak into HIS life. Kathleen has done this before, usually at the end of the book, but he was sprinkled around. It gives me hope that he'll have his own book. Unfortunately, I saw that the next book of the series won't be available until November of 2027. I know, right? 😩

Open Road literally hooked me in from the first page and I was captivated by this story until the end. It is a story about trust, honesty, and discovering self-worth.
Roam, a nomad and the Royal Bastards’ problem solver, discovers a woman and her young daughter stranded on the side of the road at three in the morning. He does the decent thing and checks on them—thus starts a new chapter in his life and in theirs.
Janie is on the run from her abusive husband and the father of her 3-year-old daughter. She is naturally hesitant to trust anyone but being stranded on the road in the early hours of the morning meant she had to take a chance, especially as she had her daughter Rose to think about, too.
I think it’s important to take a few beats to highlight Rose. She is the most adorable little girl who steals the show in many of the scenes. Her natural effervescence, which is thankfully not damaged by her father, is a joy to read about and picture in each image. I don’t think this author could have described Rose any better or clearer, I could just lift her up and cuddle her.
Janie’s resilience is outstanding, but then again being a mother will do that. I thoroughly enjoyed ‘watching’ her regrow her confidence and face life head on—what a woman. Roam’s absolute loyalty to Janie and Rose certainly made my heart flutter. Here is one very tall, broad man who is relatively concise with his words, patiently answering all of Rose's questions and carefully listening to her chatter.
I really liked this story with its fast pace, plenty of drama, and some intense action. My only disappointment was the repetition of certain facts. Yes, I understood that there were some short sentences repeatedly used on purpose, but restating quite a few times other fact did annoy me. It’s only a small issue and I encourage readers to read this story because it definitely is a terrific book.

Open Road had a story that immediately pulled me in. Janie is on the run from an abusive husband and, after finally escaping, finds herself stranded on the side of the road at night with her young daughter, Rose, and very little money. It was an emotional start that made me want to see where their journey would lead.
Roam is everything you'd expect from a biker hero—a tough, solitary man who prefers life on the open road with only his motorcycle for company. Although he's reluctant to stop and help, he can't ignore Janie and Rose, and that one decision changes everything.
The real star of this book for me was Rose. She was such a sweet, friendly little girl, and I loved how easily she connected with Roam. Watching her slowly melt his tough exterior was one of my favourite parts of the story and gave the romance plenty of heart.
While I enjoyed the overall premise, I felt the story could have benefited from a little more editing. Some details were repeated quite often, which affected the pacing and made parts of the book feel longer than they needed to.
Since I read an unedited copy, I'm hoping the story goes through a little more editing before release day. I think that would really help improve the pacing and make the story flow more smoothly.

Roam is a nomad and loves nothing more than the open road and he has never thought about putting roots down. But meeting and rescuing Janie and little Rose, its like something changed inside of him. Now it seems he wants nothing more than to be around them, to protect them and do everything in his power to make them safe.
The story took me a while to get into it. Roam came across as this grumpy stand offish biker. But the way he was with little Rose from the start just melts your heart and finding out that they are not safe and him wanting to protect them, definitely had me rooting for him.
I loved how little Rose totally got this big biker wrapped around her finger. Her mom though took a minute to warm up, but it was like it was instinctive that she trusted Roam completely with her daughter, her heart took a minute though.
Loved the story, loved the characters, got hooked on the suspense from the beginning. Definitely a biker romance that I totally enjoyed 😊

Open Road had me captivated and on the edge of my seat from the very first chapter. Two people that had lived their lives reading people quietly and assessing, cross paths on the side of the road. This story although an MC based romance that did have grit and was raw at times is also about the journey of three people becoming family. Little Rose will steal your heart, her questions, her straightforwardness and the way she could read a room, situation and people at her young age was mesmerizing. Roam is a nomad but as Janie and Rose put their trust and faith in him, roaming just didn't feel as appealing anymore. Janie had more strength than she realized and her character is one that had you cheering her on from the sidelines for every step forward she took. Their story was emotional, passionate and at times stole your breath away. Their story is not loud in volume but it speaks a thousand words. It was about growth, love and learning to laugh again. My absolute favourite part in this book is an interaction between Roam and Rose when he is fixing his bike towards the end of their story.

Fantastic new MC romance from Kathleen!
This one got me. The emotional depth between a man who hadn’t dreamed of anything and the subtleness of falling for the damsel he helped.

Roam is a nomad, and lone wolf and the clubs go-to when they need his to solve problems, while Janie is on the run with her 3-year-old little girl Rose, from her abusive husband. When Roam come across Janie and Rose stranded on a desolate highway, he stops to help. Seeing the bruises that Janie is trying to high, brings his protective instincts out. Little Rose stole the show as she wraps Roam and the club around her little figure.
This is a well written easy to read, slow burn, with found family, friendships, emotions, survival, making choices, trust, humour, witty banter, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

This is a slow burn type of book and is very good. The characters are both trying to survive and along the way they found an unexpected love that slowly gets deeper. The main character isn’t Roam or Janie, its Janies daughter Rose, who decides that Roam and the Club are her family and she is taking over their lives, weather they want her to or not. Rose helps Janie and Roam, with her unlimited trust brings them together and holds the entire club with small hands and a brain that is to smart for her age.
When the trouble come for the information that Janie took when she left, which also is including the clubs enemy. The club takes care of the problem then Roam takes care of Janie’s ex-husband at the same time.

We're back in Jacksonville with the RBMC! Open Road is Roam, Janie and Rose's beautiful, fantastic story and it completely pulled me in from the beginning. It's not one of those stories that's blasting from the pages from start to finish, it's more. It starts slowly and maintains that deep, intentional pace that you easily connect with as it edges it's way into your heart. I love all of these characters but little Rose snuck her way in and embedded herself. None of these characters will be forgotten soon.

But what really sold him helping her was her three year old daughter who wasn’t afraid of him. After taking them back to the clubhouse getting them safe. She gives the club a flash drive that she thinks is just personal information of her husbands but it turns into a hole lot more that helps bring him down and another MC. So enjoy the read!!

What a great read this was! Both Janie and Roam both seem to be running from life, her with her child away from an abusive partner, him just not finding what he needed. One broken down car in the middle of the night and Rose the sweet child that stole Roams heart first was all it took, for each of them to find their place. Loved how Roam have her back her confidence and changed her inner dialogue so quickly, and gave her back the strength she had.

Finding Janie and little Rose stranded on the roadside and choosing to turn back for them was such a turning point, and from there the emotions really kick in. Janie’s escape from an abusive husband and her willingness to help the club was fantastic, while her growing connection with Roam was so easy to root for.
As for Rose, she absolutely stole every scene.

This is beautiful told story that will leave a smile on your lip and in the heart. Rose steals the show hands down. Royal Bastards Jacksonville chapter has some of the best characters in the series. Told by Janie and Roam's perspective, the reader gets a love story with action and conflict only the RBMC can provide. Five stars and must read if you love a happy ending with heart. A fast read, I can't wait for the next member to get their story. Peace out.

Roam found a broken down car at 3a, A battered woman with a 3 yr old little girl sleeping in the back seat. Jayne got a way from her piece or shit husband that thinks its ok 2 hit women and degrade them and break their spirit but he did part of that 2 but not all of it. She stole something from him that could either risk her and Ross's lives or just his. With the help of the bastards they can find answers they need about their common enemy. Rosa is really unique 4 a 3 yr old. I loved it.

This is a moving story about Janie healing from an abusive relationship and finally finding her person in Roam. Unfortunately, the pacing and repetitive phrasing hamper the flow. It honestly could have been shorter, which would have made Janie and Roam's beautiful journey hit much harder.

Rose stole my heart as well. This is so well written. I love this Chapter of the Royal Bastards and I love this author!

Oh my this book was both heartbreaking and liberating. Janie is running until a biker comes to her and her daughters rescue and everything changes . I really liked this book, all the characters were written very well. I loved the way these three became something amazing.

I did like this book. Janie and her daughter trying to get away from her ex. Roam was such a good man. This is a slow burn that shows you how sometimes people just click and do t have to rush things. Over all a good book.

Very enjoyable book
I absolutely love Kathleen Kelly’s style of writing. The story just flows and the relationship between the characters arrives in a thoughtful way. Every page was well written and I am looking forward to reading all of the books in this series.
