I cannot begin to explain how I devoured this book so much. DEVOURED. Like time did not exist until I finished the book and was staring into nothingness. It was what I expected it to be: AMAZING!!! 🫶
All of the characters in here were all relatable and the writing of the storyline's well-crafted. I saw myself loving, cheering, giggling, and rooting for all these people. The sass and the quick wit of the FMC brought colour to the story whilst the gorgeous, hot, flirty MMC brought a lot of flavour to the *table*. Ha! The supports added a lot more chaos to an already wild premise and the engagements between all of them sparked amazing collisions of incredible banters and interactions that I just cannot get enough.
The trials were scarily descriptive and I always ended up wishing for positive outcomes every time, and the plot twists just kept on twisting and coming out of nowhere, taking me by surprise.
The spice in here: HOTNESS OVERLOAD. 100000%!!!! And, I will not say anything else as you have (or need) to read and imagine it yourself. 🤭
Again, this is a masterpiece, a work of a goddess, and a definite art that I love to read over and over and over again. So, I am really thankful to Fern for trusting us, her street team, with this early gift and I am beyond ecstatic for all the limelight she's starting to get because of her brilliance.
For real, I am so thrilled for everyone else to read this book and to experience the magic of The Court of the Fallen and I definitely cannot wait for all of you to finally see how wonderful Starfallen is. ✨️
This book will be available to purchase on Amazon, and available to borrow on KU this 31st October! I know, it's a waiting game but all good things happen to those who wait. 💗
⭐️⭐️⭐️I received an ARC of Starfallen for review. This story is a fast paced Romantasy, that is much heavier on the romance rather than the fantasy in my opinion. With that being said, the fantasy plot and concept is still very interesting-involving a morally grey, extremely sassy human FMC entering a Fae Court who meets a dark, seductive Fae King, mixed with trials, deception (who can you trust?), and plenty of twists. Starfallen has likable side characters and the overall plot is super intriguing. Despite the obvious obsession between the FMC and MMC, I didn’t really understand their “love” for each other or see any real depth to their relationship, but the banter is fire. This was definitely an insta-lust/love situation. I would have liked a little more world building and more in depth descriptions of the last trial and final resolution- as it seemed a little rushed and overshadowed by the romance at times for me. However, if you are a romance girly- you 👏🏻 will 👏🏻 eat 👏🏻 this 👏🏻 up! If you love ACOTAR and Hunger Games- Starfallen will definitely be right up your alley!
🖤“He's a great distraction. A dangerous, beautiful, and most likely addictive one.”
🖤”The kind of love that hits you out of nowhere. The one people say is the best kind, but only a rare few ever get to experience in a lifetime.”
🖤”Not once. Not ever. Have I said no to this hand. I'm beyond hopeless.”
🖤”If the rebellion doesn’t kill me, then I’m cursed to remember you for the rest of my eternal life.”
🌶️ This is a spicy book, so please be aware before reading. From what I remember, I believe, there are about 4 chapters of explicit sexual content and a lot of sexual references as well as heavy expletives throughout the book.
Wow wow wowwww! Fern’s storytelling is addictive, emotional, and utterly captivating.
From the very first page, I was hooked. No matter what else I was doing, I kept finding myself drawn back into the world of Starfallen - yes I binged this in 9 hours!!!
The Court of the Fallen is utterly consuming, and Cassie, our fabulous FMC, makes it impossible to stop turning the pages as you wonder what twist her journey will take next.
Fern’s writing is sharp and immersive, dropping you straight into the action alongside Cassie, Lucas, and the rest of the Court members. Fern’s ability to write scenes and describe the atmosphere of the Court makes it so it feels like you are right there with them.
What can I say about our MMC… without spoiling things, prepare to make space in your top 5 book boyfriend list - he’s 100% up there with our main men like Rhysand, Orion, Darius and Kingfisher!!!
Plot twist after plot twist, really keeps you guessing and during the fae trials you will be sat on the edge of your seat in anticipation of what’s to come.
This book will undo you - bringing out the “kicking your feet”, cry, gasp, and yes, blush in ways you didn’t expect.
The spice hits just right - enough to make you blush, never excessive, but hauntingly unforgettable… and… you’ll never look at a table with innocent eyes again 🤭👀
Five stars isn’t enough - I’d 100% give it more if I could.
This book is a masterpiece you simply have to experience for yourself.
✨Fern Cole’s Starfallen completely owned me from page one and did not let go. I was hooked like a worm on a line (if you know, you know 😉 🪱).
Cassandra is one of those heroines who just stays with you. She is grief-stricken, weighed down with guilt, and yet still strong enough to throw herself headfirst into the Court of the Fallen. This court is dark, cruel, and full of fae who are as entertaining as they are terrifying. Humans are allowed to enter brutal trials here to win one wish, and Cassandra has only one goal in mind: to bring back someone she has lost.
Then there is Kieran, the King of the Fallen. He is gorgeous, sharp, funny, and intense, but also layered with his own struggles. He is the type of character you cannot help but pay attention to, and his interest in Cassandra makes the trials feel even more tense. Their dynamic adds so much to the story without ever taking away from Cassandra’s strength and determination.
What I loved most is how every single character feels alive. You get the lovable ones who steal your heart, the ones you absolutely cannot stand, and even those who start one way and grow into something completely unexpected. They all deal with their issues in brutal, clever, and sometimes downright hilarious ways. It is the kind of cast that makes you want to talk about them like real people.
The whole book is full of dry humour, shocking twists, and emotional punches that left me reeling. One moment I was laughing, the next I was wide-eyed and whispering “no way” to myself. It has the perfect mix of high-stakes action and quieter, character-driven moments.
And the writing itself? That is the magic. It feels familiar but not because you have read it before. It is because Fern Cole writes like a reader who understands exactly what her audience wants and knows how to build that instant bond between reader and story.
This is an easy five stars from me. If you like fae courts, dangerous trials, humour that cuts right through the tension, and characters who will haunt you long after you finish, you need to read Starfallen.
I feel absolutely privileged to be a part of Fern’s amazingly chaotic street team and I honestly cannot wait to see where this book takes her - I have no doubt it will be amazing places! 🖤✨💛💫
Do you really think this book is worth of 4 or 5 stars? I would make it clear to you. No, it isn't.
Because this is absolute ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!
I would get on that table for this book. (IYKYK)
I knew I would love it before I even read it. And it turns out to be true. I fall in love with your writing, the place, characters... If this is not future SJM then I don't know!
I love the plot...the spice...intrigue..danger.. and mystery. At first it gives me Hunger Games vibes but it turns out to be different! And much better!
I love almost (lol) everyone in Court! (specifically Kieran and his wings)
But I also love how independent and wild Cass is! Sometimes sarcastic and teasing too when it comes to one specific man. (heheh)
I fall for Kieran the second he was mentioned. I love how flirting and charming he can be. But still respectful gentleman! (Not mentioning the moon thing)
But I LOVED it. FERN WROTE MASTERPIECE. ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE.
So what else can I say? Get your credit cards ready!
Starfallen is your new favourite romantasy. Good grief, I devoured this book, and it gave me all the vibes whilst leaving me wanting so much more. It is beautifully written with a captivating story with a FIERCE and sassy FMC, Cassie. I love the MMC, Kieran, who is strong, brooding and will definitely be your next book HUSBAND. There is romance, incredible world buliding, unique magic system, spice that spices, and honestly, it sits at the top of the genre with all the greats of romantasy. This is my honest review.
"Gods, what the fuck did they put in the wine in this place?"
First and foremost, thank you SO much Fern for not only choosing me to read an ARC of Starfallen but accepting me onto your street team, allowing me to read the prologue and 1st 3 chapters (which hooked me straight in btw) and then surprising us by sending us the ARC almost 2 weeks early! 🫶🏼
Starfallen is a masterpiece and yes that is infinite stars. This book is in my top 3 reads this year.
Cassandra is torn up with grief after her boyfriend dies. The Court of the Fallen appears in Celestial events and if you wish hard enough they will accept you into their court and you can fight to make your wish come true... THIS BOOK. Honestly I feel like whatever I write will just not do it justice. Deadly trials, real enemies to lovers, fae, shifters, promises as currency, spice. It literally has everything you could ever want in a romantasy book.
Cassandra is sassy, sarcastic and just a hilarious FMC. Kieran, the brooding fae Prince, is an amazingly written character. I think he is just perfect.
If I can honestly recommend 1 book you read this season it is Starfallen. This book kept me fully engrossed the whole time, I hated having to stop reading and do adult things and just when I thought 'surely no more twists' another surprise slapped me straight in the face.
Go and read Starfallen when it comes out on the 31st October. I hope you love it 🫶🏼✨️
Starfallen is a dark adult Romantasy full of trials, courtly intrigue, spice, and a burning love story. And trust me when I say this one is going to be BIG!
From the very first line, I knew I was going to love this book. The writing is sharp, atmospheric, and beautifully descriptive, pulling you straight into its world and making you want to find out more about it. (I found myself highlighting so many lines!)
Then we have Cassandra, who's a strong, complex heroine with an incredibly hilarious inner voice. Her grief and determination are written with such care, and I loved how real she felt.
I also adored the concept of the Court of the Fallen, the twisted games, the trials, and the rivalries between the humans. The world itself is rich with fae lore, and even the side characters (looking at you, Aurora) feel alive and intriguing. And the chemistry between Cassandra and Kieran? It's undeniably sexy and absolutely EVERYTHING. The tension builds slowly until it's impossible to look away with both spicy (the table scene...) and some surprisingly sweet moments.
Honestly, this book completely consumed me. There's betrayal, found strength, and it's basically everything you'd want from an adult romantasy. I already can't wait for the next book! So if you love dark fae courts, a strong FMC, and a romance that'll overshadow everything else, then Starfallen is an absolute must-read!!
Cassie is drowning in grief after the loss of her boyfriend, and with him, her will to live. When the Court of the Fallen offers humans a chance to compete for a wish—any wish—she enters, hoping for a way out of her despair. But the court is not at all what she imagined. Between dangerous trials are glamour, jobs, ballgowns, and a world of temptation where trust is in short supply.
Enter Kieran. When Cassie unexpectedly becomes his personal assistant, everything shifts. Their teasing banter evolves into something far more intense… and far more dangerous.
I absolutely loved this book. The romance is scorching—easily a 4/5 on the spice scale (seriously, do not read this in public 👀🔥). But what really hooked me were the side characters: • Lucas stole my heart with his growth and strength. • Aurora may be a menace, but her fierce loyalty to her people made me admire her. • Gideon, the ever-loyal right hand, was a character I found myself eagerly waiting to see on-page.
And Kieran… he feels like a mix of Rhysand, Xaden Riorson, and Rowan Whitethorn rolled into one irresistible MMC. I’m just as obsessed with him as he is with Cassie.
Fern did an amazing job creating a world that feels both glamorous and dangerous, and I cannot wait for not only the next book in this series, but anything else she writes in the future.
I was privileged to get an early ARC of this book, and I am so pleased I did because I honestly think that, after the preview I had of the first 3 chapters, I may have combusted waiting on the release date!
You can tell this book was written by someone who genuinely loves the genre, and because of that knows what we would want as readers.
There is no 200 page wait to set the scene before getting to the good stuff, and Fern trusts her readers to learn as they go; finding out about places at the same time as our FMC Cass, (who I now have named Sassy Cassi) and weaving the magical systems and character growth in organically.
Our FMC is wonderfully bright and sarcastic, someone you can really root for (and I would happily go for a drink with) and you can easily see the motivations behind her actions.
Our MMC is perfectly written for her. As all good romantacy MMCs are, he is flawed but loving and it becomes clear quickly he would do anything for Cass. It also helps that the banter they have between them is just next level, leading to a sexual chemistry that jumps off the page and left me rather hot under the collar!
All the characters in this novel are, in their own way, fabulous - wether that is in a good or a bad way I will let you discover for yourself - as I am not kidding when I say the twists and turns in this one will keep you guessing until the end, and leave you wondering just who anyone can trust in The Court of The Fallen.
The trials are wicked, and devious and so clever, I honestly think I would have been a goner in the first one!
I could go on for days, but I won't, as I do not want to spoil it for you! All I will say is, Fern has written a delicious masterpiece that already has me feral for the second instalment, I feel beyond lucky that I have gotten to read it early, and I am sure you will all fall as in love with it as I have.
Okay, wow let me see if I can string some words together after finishing Starfallen because I absolutely devoured this!
I had already read the prologue and first 3 chapters as a teaser Fern put out and I was so quickly immersed and ready to go on whatever journey awaited. The story grips you from the first few pages and you are straight away wanting to know the characters motivations and what the hell this mysterious ‘court of the fallen’ is.
Our FMC is cloaked in grief and is determined to right a wrong she feels is her fault. From the start we are introduced to some very important side characters and quite quickly meet our deliciously flirty Fae male main character.
‘Am I in a magical death tournament or a fucking royal debut’
The world building is seamless, there’s no lengthy info dumps, we are thrown in with our cast of characters and discover things as they do, the plot twists just kept twisting and I honestly had no idea what was going to happen next!
‘You’ll soon find that in this court, no one really objects me, Little star’
The humour had me laughing out loud at times, the banter between our characters was snarky and sarcastic and some of the one liners were bloody brilliant!
‘I need a giant cup of coffee to deal with this version of you, Kieran’
Chapter 17 guys! Tables, that’s all I’ll say, you’ll never hear of one or look at one the same again. The spice was spicing! I loved the build up, all the teasing and almost moments. It may be autumn right now but damn did the temperature rise during certain scenes, the blush was fierce! We have a ‘good girl’ moment people😏
‘Get on the table, Little star’
The trials were original and had you second guessing every interaction, wanting to read even faster to know the outcome and if everyone made it out okay. Chapter 20🤯 my heart was pounding and my jaw was on the floor because what just happened!
I love the MMC’s nickname for our FMC but as soon as the ‘love’ endearment came out I was a puddle on the floor🤌🏼
That last 30% had be gasping in shock, raging so much I wanted to chuck my kindle across the room (don’t worry no damage was done) and utterly bamboozled because was I suppose to be able to see that coming!? The last chapter has me wanting book two right now! Fern if you just want to send me any drafts you have I’d be so very grateful😂
Thank you to Fern Cole for approving me for the e-ARC!
From the day I read the prologue and the first 3 chapters, I was hooked. No matter what I read, I kept wanting to be going back to read more of Starfallen! There was no escaping the Court of the Fallen and wondering what would happen next in the life of Cassie, our morally grey main female character!
We get pulled into the action almost immediately, none of this nonsense 250-page character building. Fern has written so well that it isn't needed. We are instantly transported into the world alongside Cassie, Lucas, and friends, like we are walking with them, watching it all unfold before our very eyes.
You also get introduced to our Main Male Fae Character very early on, giving you more than enough time to fall in love with this tortured soul, he sits there alongside Rhysand, Xaden and Zade for me!
Cassie, the sarcastic depresso that she is, gives us cracking one-liners that will have you laughing out loud.
Going into the trials with them all, you hold your breath the entire time, hoping and praying for the outcome you so desperately want for them.
You will get met with plot twist upon plot twist, meaning when you think you know what's happening next, you are wrong! It will leave your jaw hanging for sure!
You will laugh, smile, cry, forget to breathe, and maybe need to fan yourself a few times. The spice is just the perfect amount. But you are not prepared for it, no matter how much you think you will be.
You will never look at a table the same ever again!
You need to read Starfallen for yourself. No amount of words will describe how much of a masterpiece this is. For a debut romantasy novel, you'd think Fern has been writing them all her life! This definitely earns its 5 stars, and I would give it more if I could!
Starfallen is out for pre-order on Kindle Unlimited and EBook now. You will be able to get it in hardback, paperback, and e-book formats around the world from 31st October. Make this a definite must on your TBR. Make it your next read on your TBR.
Fern... when is book 2 out?? Please dont make us wait too long to find out what happens next!
I'm honestly sad I can't rate this more than five stars because this book is a six star read for me! I was hooked from the very first page. This book is very well written. The characters are relatable. Once I started reading, I couldn't stop. I absolutely devoured this book. Each page makes you want to keep turning to read more.
Cassandra is a sassy character with a mouth, which I love. I aspire to be as sassy as she is. I think she is a total bada**. It was easy to feel all her emotions because you would react that way, too. In the beginning, you find that she's suffered the loss of her boyfriend. She lives with so much grief and blames herself, which was relatable to me over the loss of my mother from feeling so much grief over it.
Kieran is absolute perfection in every way. The banter that comes out of this man's mouth is chef's kiss. It hits just the right spot and makes you instantly fall in love with him. He absolutely one hundred percent is now at the very top of my book boyfriends list.
There is spice. it's not too over the top, but it's just the perfect amount. It will have you craving more and also fanning yourself. The descriptions during these scenes...it's toe-curling. I found myself kicking, giggling, and screaming. I know one thing, I'll never look at tables the same ever again.
The story and plot were so delicious. I was literally eating it up! There are twists and turns you'll never see coming. I ended up with my jaw on the floor more than a few times. I just think overall this book is an absolute masterpiece, and I hope this book gets all the recognition it truly deserves. Absolutely beautiful, and I now am dying for book two! This book is officially my favorite. Fern completely knocked my socks off with this one. It's a book I'll forever think about and recommend to anyone who will listen!
PLACEHOLDER REVIEW! (I read the first 3 chapters and prologue in the ARC) Wow wow wow!! Let me start off by saying Fern was born to write and that’s obvious in this book. It captivates you from the prologue and has zero issues holding your attention until the last page. When I was reading it was like time stood still and only this world I was reading existed. The story was so bloody creative and perfectly toed the line between dreamy and real. The characters introduced in ch 1-3 were so well and thoroughly developed it felt as though they were real people. The world building wasn’t clunky, and it didn’t weigh down the story from progressing. Everything flowed so beautifully and I was absolutely entranced.
I will update this review when I have finished the entire book (receiving full arc October 1st) ✨
So I’m going to try do this with no spoilers whatsoever… heres me hoping cannot wait to be able to do one with 😂 So I was lucky enough to be apart of the lovely street team for this and I’m not being biased just because I am apart of this but…THIS BOOK!!!!!!! When I tell you hooked from the start…the way that this is written keeps you fully engaged in all of it. The way that you know everything Cassandra is thinking helps you build the picture of everything she is going through, makes it that much better that it is HILARIOUS.. she is fierce, she is sarcastic, she is flirty and she doesn’t mind throwing out threats😂 basically my kind of gal😂 The FAE king Kieran our morally grey king, we are here for it, you just know he is beautiful and you want him to be your very own book boyfriend , the flirting , the power he holds, the softness to him that only certain people see.. you will get to know and love our court of the fallen king and I know you will love him just as much as us! My only little thing is I would have loved loved loved more world building of the court and characters to be able to picture it that much better and more of Kieran POVS to see how he was feeling and dealing with it all! But other than that I read this in two days I just could not put it down.. This is going to be the next big book I’m telling you so you will want to be apart of this.. join us in the court of the fallen, immerse yourself into this world as fern has made the best court to be in and it’s right here in this book so WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR.. Preorder for E Books for the release on the 31st of October Or physical copies from the 31st! So glad I got to read this early because I can honestly say that you’ll be wanting book 2 ✨📚🖤
This was without a doubt one of the best books I’ve read in a long time! I was hooked from the very beginning, and that excitement carried me straight through to the final page.
The characters are incredibly well developed—layered, flawed, and full of personality. They feel like real people rather than one-note archetypes. I especially loved how even characters you don’t completely like still have redeeming qualities and moments that make you respect them. Watching them adapt, grow, and change through challenges felt authentic and human.
Cassie quickly became one of my favorites. Her snark, sarcasm, and sharp comebacks made me grin, but what I loved most was how relatable she is—she isn’t instantly perfect at everything, and seeing her work hard to improve made her feel real and inspiring.
The worldbuilding and magic are captivating, immersive, and refreshingly unique. This isn’t a “copy and paste” romantasy—it stands apart with twists and turns that keep you guessing, witty banter that made me laugh out loud, and a romance that builds beautifully throughout the story. And yes—the romantic tension and spicy moments are written with the perfect blend of sweetness, heat, and heart.
Overall, this story has everything you could hope for in a great read: rich worldbuilding, complex characters, gripping twists, banter that sparkles, and a romance that keeps you turning pages. I truly believe this book has the potential to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with, and even surpass, some of the most popular romantasy titles out there. This is absolutely a book I’ll be rereading again and again—and one I highly recommend for every romantasy lover’s shelf.
update: also got gifted an ALC of the audiobook version of Starfallen - opinion did not change tho :)
I have been one of the lucky ones to receive an early ARC of this precious little book, which - spoiler alert - will be one of my favourites for a good while!
This had all I want from a romantasy book. I’m not going to say “this is the next…..whatever” - I’m going to say that if you liked Acotar but you liked nesta more than feyre? This is for you! You liked the kindreds cursed saga, but wanted Diem to be less naive - here we have an edgy and not perfect FMC (Meet Cassie!) We have a MMC that is not a “fake enemy” before, just to call it enemy’s to lovers but he really knows the lovers part (Meet Kieran!) We have spice but without being cringy (we know I’m critical about that!) We have a hard warming romance - “that kind of love that hits you out of nowhere.”
It was easy to read though not easy written (I don’t know how to say this better - so you better understand how I mean it, duh) Easier to get hooked. Hard to be reasonable and put it away for getting some sleep (here i am, writing the review in the middle of the night - not being said reasonable person)
I really can just recommend to you: read it on kindle unlimited, buy the beautiful hardcover (or paperback if you prefer) - Fern even made matching bookmarks (and they are incredibly beautiful)
This book has some type of drug in it because I couldn’t put it down 😂. I will never look at a table the same way again 🥵. Loved the fact the story just started, I loved the world building of the court and loved the love story! There was no messing about in this book, straight to the good stuff! I’m excited to see what happens next 🖤🪱
I received Starfallen as an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
You might enjoy this if you like Zodiac Academy, reality dating shows where everyone is horny and bitchy for no reason, you are obsessed with Rhysand, and you really don’t care about sentences making sense.
I will detail why I did not like any of this (and why you might not too) as kindly, but bluntly as I can. But since there is very little to praise here, this might sound harsh. It’s definitely going to be negative. Honestly, if this wasn’t an ARC I would have DNFed.
First, if this book was edited, Fern Cole needs to get her money back because her editor ripped her off. However, I’m fairly certain I read a first draft advertised as an ARC. From what I have gathered from what was shared on socials, Fern completed the rough draft mid-August and had ARCs out October 1st for a 31st release. She posts about alpha readers raving and ARC readers raving (girl, get alphas who don't lie to you). Not a mention of beta readers or editors. I expect an ARC to have minor proofreading errors. Not need a massive developmental and line edit because more sentences than not are nonsensical. You especially should not be skipping hiring an editor when English isn’t your first language.
Why is this being rushed to publishing? It’s a little suspicious to me given Fern’s massive marketing efforts, the oddly high reviews she’s currently getting for an obviously flawed draft, and that she is telling people if they don’t like her book to just not review it. She seems to be spending more time advertising the book than editing it. If you can’t handle negative feedback on your book you should probably not be an author. Or at least put some actual effort into making it good so people have less to judge poorly.
The whole thing reads a bit like Rhysand fanfic because it is not subtle with the borrowed ideas. Kieran is Rhysand with a tiny splash of Xaden style politics thrown in for good measure. This is made more cringey by the fact that the only books listed on Fern’s goodreads account are ACOTAR, Fourth Wing, and Caraval. Which is where the trials were probably adopted from, but those are tossed on the back burner immediately even though the trials are supposed to be the point of the book. The epilogue also introduces a character who likes pranks who will be in the sequel. So, that's probably a Legend clone.
This book also doesn’t know what it wants to be. It’s dangerous fae trials. But also a casual workplace romcom? Why did trial contestants need random unimportant jobs that none of them actually do anyway? Cassandra is the worst PA ever because she never actually works. What is the point of that plotline? And why did the trials plotline fall apart so spectacularly?
The book is mostly tell, not show. The interiority and descriptions are lacking. It’s always her pretty eyes, my gorgeous dress, his beautiful face. I don’t actually know what anyone looks like because they were introduced as generic stereotypes and are just called hot anytime their appearance is mentioned.
Everyone only ever thinks about sex. Not that a sex central plot is always a bad thing, but Cassandra has inappropriately timed horny thoughts in every scene. People could be dying, and she would still have to mention how fuckable their corpse looks. There were several scenes where characters awkwardly wait for the MCs to finish dry humping so they can deal with the important issues happening. It’s weird.
All the characters are extremely flat. Part of that is because they never think anything deeper than, “I’m horny again.” But we also get very little on personality, motivation, and backstory. We know nothing about Cassandra’s dead boyfriend other than he was the perfect boyfriend, she didn’t love him though, and he was so great that he died in a bar fight. Charming. Lucas’s whole personality is being said dead boyfriend’s best friend. She’s so broken up over him being dead that she joins the trials to wish him back to life or just to commit suicide. But five minutes after arriving in the fae court she’s eye fucking everyone there. I’m a firm believer that there is no right or wrong way to grieve, but the take on death, grief, and depression here really makes me wonder if Fern has ever experienced any of it. The grief is written like it’s a unique quirky personality trait for Cassandra. She glories suicidal thoughts and self-harm. Cassandra literally cuts herself for attention.
The book struggles with tense and POV. It’s supposed to be first person present POV, but the tense is wishy-washy, and the narration is often omnipotent with Cassandra factually telling us things other people do or think when she should have no way of knowing.
The writing style is very Gen-Z colloquial. Which is cringey and doesn’t really fit the supposed dark fantasy tone. Which really isn’t dark fantasy. The marketing for the book is a total lie. It was advertised as dark romance with dangerous and morally gray characters. We are repetitively told Kieran is dangerous and morally gray, while his actions are: laughing and smiling, being nice and friends with his subordinates, flirting and SIMPing for the FMC, and strictly punishing rapists and murderers. Yup, he’s such a bad boy.
Cassandra is both unlikable and pathetic. She’s an incredibly weak person who hides behind a fake “strong independent woman” persona by being an unnecessary catty bitch all the time. But when things matter she crumbles immediately and needs to be rescued. At least she thinks she is a badass though. She’s also hyperbolic about everything. When everything “breaks” or “shatters” her, nothing has any emotional impact anymore.
The world building is very unclear. Keiran runs the trials to prove a point to his family that humans are bad but he’s also forced to run the trials by the people he’s trying to prove a point to? And the humans have to choose between their wish and immortality in the end, but which is the choice that proves they are bad?
The climax was completely washed over. It basically went like this: We defeated the bad guys! Oh, you weren’t there, but it was super cool and we kicked their asses. Let’s talk about something else now.
Here are just a few quotes from the book as examples of why you should never skimp out on an editor or rush the process because you want to release a book in fall simply because it takes place in fall. A half decent editor would have fixed most of this, but I have to judge a book on what was actually written, not what could have been.
“‘Good morning,’ I say, slicing my bacon in silence.”
“‘You got me the most gorgeous ring ever, and I’m afraid you’re about to get some cheap ass metal made of crap in return.’ Kieran’s shoulder shake with laughter. ‘I’ll treasure your crap metal forever.’”
“‘You have to use your heart, not your head.” The sentence comes out of the same mouth that has been all over my body countless times. And right now I want to pinch it. Then, I’ll probably slap it with my lips as an apology.”
“Kieran had to fix my gorgeous fake wedding dress.”
“His wings look insanely beautiful in the bright moonlight.”
“Even him is in disbelief, and that says a lot about what happened.”
“I open my mouth. But nothing barely comes out.”
“And I pray Atticus hasn’t whispered in his eyes, twisting the truth and painting me as a villain.”
“And he probably smooth talked, bedroom-eyed talked, hands-touching talked her into joining his sacred little crew.”
“A low-life jerk cuts me in the shoulder when I wasn’t looking.”
“A girl about my age – I’ve seen her in town a few times. Very chatty girl. A guy a few years older than me who’s staring at my breasts and whistles as if saying hi – definitely a prick. A lady who’s eyes are locked to the floor like it’s talking to her. A boy who looks about seventeen. A middle-aged man, dressed sharply in a suit… And then – Shit. Lucas. Declan’s best friend.”
“Just when I was tempted to climb that body for fun before I say goodbye to this earth."
Where does one even begin to praise a book that has utterly stolen a piece of your soul? To have received an early copy of 'Starfallen' from Fern was a sheer gift, and let me tell you, this was not just an easy five-star read...it was a definitive 10/10, an absolute literary masterpiece. It is, without a doubt, one of the best books I have ever had the pleasure of falling into. 👏🏼
Our journey begins with Cassandra (Cassie), a morally grey heroine whose wit is as sharp as a dagger and whose spirit is utterly captivating. Her sass, her endlessly relatable coffee obsession, and her darkly hilarious banter make her one of the most memorable and genuinely funny protagonists in modern fantasy. Then there is Kieran, the formidable Fae King, our morally grey male lead who is destined to become your next favourite book boyfriend. Kieran has met his glorious match in Cassie; they are a perfectly chaotic synergy, a true pairing forged in the most beautiful of hells. 🔥
This epic tale ensnared me from the very first page of the prologue, a rare feat, and the relentless, breakneck pace never falters. The narrative is a labyrinth of exquisite twists and turns that will give you delicious whiplash. My emotions were tempest throughout...I laughed, I cried, and I gasped in sheer astonishment. 👏🏼
The book delivers a breathtaking balance of tension and passion. The smut is perfectly woven into the fabric of the story; prepare to need a fan, because the chemistry is scorching! 🔥 And the Fae trials? They are utterly gripping, heart-stopping challenges that left me utterly unable to put the book down. I grieved when the final page arrived.
Even the ensemble of side characters is spectacular. Every one of them, even those meant to be despised, is crafted with a depth that makes them irresistible. 'Starfallen' will leave an indelible mark on you, and I am desperately, impatiently awaiting book two. Having never annotated a book before, the fact that I highlighted nearly every single chapter of this one is a testament to its sheer, utter perfection.
If your heart yearns for a dark romantasy brimming with unforgettable characters and exhilarating suspense, this book is an absolute necessity. Consider this your formal warning, SJM: Fern is an author whose star is rapidly ascending, and the fantasy landscape has a formidable new talent to watch! ✨
A Taste of the Enchantment (Favorite Quotes):
"Sure I've lost the will to live, but before I willingly march into the Court of the Fallen, just let me have a fucking coffee."
"Am I in a magical death tournament or a fucking royal debut?"
"So you get sex and I get what?" "Orgasms."
"Get on the table, Little Star."
(And be warned: you may never look at tables the same way again!) 😏
Wow, where to even begin with this beautiful story, it’s hard to pick just one moment!
Starfallen is THAT girl and is going to create ACOTAR/Fourth Wing levels of obsession in the romantasy world. This story is addicting and suspenseful, there is so much beautiful, poetic writing intertwined with plot twists and turns that I just could not stop myself reading. The fact that I finished this in just 3 days really speaks for itself here 👀
What I loved about Starfallen: - Immersive world building, I really felt transformed into the court of the fallen and all I wanted to do was step into the book to see this realm in person. - The writing of this book was just gorgeous, I felt so connected to the narration of the story just from the prose and language used, I felt so many different emotions, Fern has done an incredible job at bringing the characters thoughts and feelings to life. - Morally Grey FMC x Cursed MMC romance. Need I say more? Forget enemies to lovers I am here for this banterous connection which builds, not too much of a slow burn but just enough to make you groan a bit when it doesn’t happen 😂 - The side characters were all so interesting, I feel like Fern did a great job at developing a personality for each character, making every single one of them stand out. I don’t think any two characters blurred together for me which often happens in fantasy novels. - Overall just an insanely engaging plot, lots of twists and turns, trials and games, it kept the suspense high and you couldn’t really predict what was going to happen and when. I found the concluding chapters to the novel took me in a completely new direction to which I thought it was going and I’m not mad about it 🤭
Honestly this book has me in a chokehold really, I’m already planning my re-read. This is a 5 star read for me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and one of my favourites of 2025, I’m so incredibly excited for the release of this book so that everyone can step into the Court of the Fallen 🙌🏻
Now, when is book 2 coming out? 👀

I’d recommend this book to fans of ACOTAR, Fourth Wing, and anyone who loves action, trials, and romance rolled into one!

Being an ARC Reviewer for Star Fallen is so exciting, as soon as I saw the blurbs and tropes of this book I knew it’d peak my interest enough to read… especially with a TBR stack that’s all but piling up. Star Fallen was worth adding to the top of that stack, reading almost immediately as Fern released it to us, I finished it in under 24 hours. Not only is the writing style captivating and thorough, but the characters have a sense of depth and lore that makes you wanna see what happens to them next. Cass was a great FMC, she kept your attention and made you enjoy her presence- I was glad the book primarily followed her POV. Kieran was a great MMC, his banter was entertaining and his yearning was even better, a powerful Fae wanting all the attention of his beloved. Human x Fae combo was definitely interesting, but I love Human x Magical Being relations, and this was no different. The times there was spice, because this is a primarily open door romance (explicit scenes) it was deliciously written and I lovedddd their compatibility, dare I say I wish there was more spice lol. I enjoyed seeing Cass’ interactions with the other Fae and other humans, seeing her navigate her grief while also coming to terms with what she really wants was nice to see. I also loved her weapons of choice, the daggers were oh so fun and Im glad they were a reoccurring theme throughout the book. A great modern Dark Romantasy that I’d recommend to anyone looking to dip their toes into the genre or even someone well established with the love of the morally grey fantasy’s!! Overall the book was amazing, and I’ll be reading the rest of the series ( if there’s more 😜 ). Us, and the stars. My little star.
5 stars ⭐️, 3 peppers 🌶️
Human x Fae King 🧚🏻♂️ Grief Deadly Trials Touch her and 💀 Mutual Obsession Dagger Lover 🗡️ HEA
I had such a good time reading this, It’s fast paced, has lust, love, the banter was brilliant. I loved the trails and tribs that all the characters had to go through, the plot twists! I did find myself wanting more world building, there were some places where some heavy descriptions would have been 👌. I found myself struggling to picture some scenes. But honestly, fantastic, I’m very excited for where the story is going to go! And Thankyou to For the Arc and the opportunity to be in your street team ❤️❤️
Also.. THAT ENDING!
Run to preorder right now! You won’t regret it!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Starfallen Where do I even begin, I know at the start would help, wow let me catch my breath! I am so blown away by this debut dark romantasy. I couldn’t predict anything. The plot twists had me on the edge of my seat, jaw on the floor, ready to throw my kindle and curse the stars at some of the characters.
The chemistry between our fmc and mmc is toe curlingly electric. A combination of wit, sharp tongues and sassy comebacks from the fmc and the obvious ooze of sex appeal and charisma from the mmc, creates absolute fireworks. You will be desperate for more!
There’s great supporting characters that add diversity and depth to the story. Each character plays a proper role in shaping and developing the storyline. You really never know who it is you’re waiting and watching out for until BAM, it was definitely not who you were thinking of.
The trials are brilliantly executed, they’ll have you gasping, stunned and absolutely destroyed. Fern really has captured the art of psychological mind games with the combination of everything I absolutely love about a dark fae romantasy. She’s combined a world and magic system that’s new with tropes that are tried and tested to drive you wild.
Be prepared for heartache, lapses of judgement, epic trials, plot twists galore and heaps of spicy toe curling burning romance. Throw in friends, family, betrayal and rebellion and you’re in for the wildest of rides.
I cannot rave about this book enough, my review really doesn’t do it enough justice. Thank you so much for approving me for you e-arc. I loved every minute of this book. 🖤
Plot: I really loved the plot—it’s such an interesting take on fallen fae and the world built around them. The storyline has a fun vibe that makes it so easy to sink into and enjoy.
Characters: The FMC and MMC were both really enjoyable to follow, and I especially liked Gideon—he was such a fun addition! There are some great twists and character moments throughout that kept things fresh and exciting.
Worldbuilding: The world is one of my favorite parts of this book. It’s imaginative and immersive, and I can’t wait to uncover even more of it in the rest of the series. There’s a lot of potential here, and it feels like the start of something expansive.
Pacing: This is definitely a fast-paced book, which kept me turning the pages quickly. The romance is very much at the forefront, and it balances well with the fantasy elements.
Writing Style: The writing is elegant yet easy to read, which made the story flow beautifully. Fern Cole’s style brings both the world and characters to life in an engaging way.
Overall Thoughts: Starfallen was an engaging and fun read that came together really well. Between the intriguing plot, the fast pace, and the balance of romance and fantasy, it’s a story that kept me entertained from start to finish. I’m already looking forward to the next one! 🌌✨
The way this book had me in a chokehold!!! I’m so honoured to have been given an ARC of starfallen but now I don’t know what I’m going to do until the next book…
I think I can confidently say Cassie’s character will resonate with every fantasy reader as her inner monologue about the fae world is definitely the way mine sounds while reading about them! She’s such a sassy quick witted FMC you literally can’t not like her!
Kieran, what can I say, you’ve just jumped into the top 5 book boyfriends with ease! Rhysand, Kingfisher and Xaden all rolled into one imo!
The way Fern tells this story makes you feel fully submerged into the world she has created and the plot took twists and turns I was fully not expecting. I love being caught off guard, a few times I thought I had things figured out then she just went and threw another curveball!
I highly recommend everyone adds this to their tbr and I cannot wait to see where Fern takes the story next and how the world expands!!!
To start off, I would like to thank Fern for choosing me to be one of her ARC readers. I am genuinely so thank for this opportunity and I can’t wait to see what she publishes in the future!!
This was genuinely one of the best books I’ve read this year! From the first chapter on I was completely hooked! I even finished the book within the first day of reading it. Who doesn’t love a romantasy with a bit of trials and drama? There was never a point in the book where I felt bored or had the urge to stop reading. The descriptions of characters and the world building was all wonderful. I was vividly picturing everything in my head as I read. I really cannot wait for this story to continue. Once the book is fully published I do intend on reading it again! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wow I am truly speechless about this book. Starfallen just grabs you from the very beginning. I normally find the beginning of books slow with all the world building, however Starfallen…that is not a problem at all. This book was not slow by any means, you will be on your toes the entire time and get whiplash in the process. The characters are phenomenal. I loved the FMC, she was so relatable, even with the way she spoke with her sarcasm and sass, and her thoughts. She felt so real. Her guilt and shame throughout the whole book is so beautifully devastating, especially her friendship with Lucas. Ugh don’t even get me started on their friendship. Then the MMC?! Are you kidding me?! I thought no one would compare to Rhysand but Kieran…run for his money. Little star?! Are you kidding me?! The table?! HELLO!! The characters that you’re supposed to hate…still written sooo well. Twist after twist, and when you thought there wasn’t going to be another twist guess what there’s a twist. Don’t worry there is SPICE trust and it is the perfect amount. It doesn’t take away from the plot at all, and it’s not overbearing. The ending of this book is absolute perfection, I have no notes. 10/10.
I know that Fern is going to go places with her writing. It is so beautifully written, and I truly cannot wait for the physical book to come out. It is absolutely stunning and will look stunning on my shelf. And also I can’t wait for the second one!!
"He offers me a hand - same as the first day, same as every day since. I take it without hesitation."
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 ARC REVIEW
Spoiler-Free Summary: What would you do if your boyfriend suddenly passed away… but there was a way - a dangerous, near-impossible way - to bring him back? Cassie knows her only hope lies in the deadly Fae trials, where one victor earns a single wish from the Fallen Fae. But between the blood, the betrayal, and a dangerously magnetic Fae King named Kieran, she quickly realises that surviving might be harder than she ever imagined.
Review: Firstly, thank you SO much to Fern Cole for the opportunity to read this ARC - I absolutely bloody loved it. Starfallen is a story of deadly trials, political intrigue, betrayal, and the kind of romance that makes you giggle and kick your feet… oh, and let’s not forget the spice. 🔥
If you want a sassy, independent FMC who knows what she wants - Cass is your girl. Kieran is everything you could ever want from an MMC - dark, mysterious, willing to burn the world for the woman he loves, and delivers some of the most charming (and deliciously flirtatious) lines imaginable.
This book is due to be released on 31st October and will be available on Kindle Unlimited! Make sure you check it out - it’s a super fun, addictive read and the beginning of what I’m sure will be an EPIC series. 💀✨
From the very first line, I knew Starfallen was going to be something special. Fern doesn’t just drop you into a story — she builds a world around you from the very first page. And before you know it, you’re completely and utterly gone.
Our main character, Cassie, is one of the most relatable protagonists I’ve read in a long time. She’s grieving, sarcastic, and a little self-destructive in the way only someone truly broken can be. She knows the task ahead is near-impossible, the risks sky-high, but she chooses to chase it anyway — because what else does she have left to lose? What are the chances of being chosen, after all? It starts as a distraction from her pain… but quickly becomes a reality. And wow, what a reality it is.
There’s a strong sense of family threaded throughout the story, grounding it and making Cassie even more human. Despite the heartbreak and turmoil bubbling beneath the surface, her internal monologue is witty, sarcastic, and often laugh out loud funny — a coping mechanism we all understand far too well.
Fern’s writing is fantastic. It’s gripping and immersive without being heavy-handed. Everything is described in just the right amount of detail, painting vivid images in your mind without slowing the pace. I never once had to stop to “build” a scene in my head — the story simply unfolded around me. And that, for me, is the mark of a truly skilled storyteller.
And let’s talk about that ending to chapter one. COME OFF IT.
“It’s bleeding. Crimson at the edges.” Poetic. Brutal. Brilliant.
By chapter two, I was gone. HELLO HANDSOME. You know the type — mysterious, winged, dark hair, wicked mouth. Bye Declan. Sorry, not sorry. And before his dramatic entrance, the world-building had already stolen my heart: a City of Starlight, Fae who mock humans with cutting smiles. You see it all.
Chapter three cranks things up a notch — the pace quickens, the stakes rise, and the dynamic between the contestants simmers with tension, sass, and deliciously sharp banter. It’s quick, it’s compelling, and it’s impossible to put down. Sure, there are familiar tropes here — but in the best possible way. We love those tropes for a reason, and Fern uses them as a springboard for a story that is absolutely going to take us places we don’t expect.

🪶 Spoilers Below 🪶
First of all, Fern very kindly caved to our collective demands and released the ARC early — and I promptly abandoned all adult responsibilities to dive straight in. No regrets.
The pacing continues to be spot-on. Cassie’s internal monologue is chef’s kiss — it’s like Fern plucked the thoughts right out of my head and put them on the page. And then there’s Kieran. Listen, I hate comparing characters, but he is absolutely my Rhysand. Only, I imagine Kieran is a little more dangerous, a little more unhinged (that table quote? Say less). The chemistry between them is electric — and when Declan is mentioned, I understand exactly why Cassie forgot about him… because, well, so did I.
The world-building continues to shine. You can see the floating kingdom, feel the pulse of its magic, and sense the hostility toward Cassie — tension drips from every page. Here’s the setup: Cassie’s boyfriend, Declan, is dead. Devastated, she’ll do anything to bring him back. When the chance arises — one wish granted by the Court of the Fallen — she seizes it. Chosen and whisked away to a realm in the sky, she must compete against others for the ultimate prize.
With two weeks before the trials begin, Cassie must train and find a job. She attempts to become an assistant — and after a little interference, lands the role… to none other than Kieran, the King himself. 👀
The magic system is one of my favourite elements — promises as currency? Genius. And when we learn that Fae who break their promises fall from the stars to live at the court of the fallen, it adds a whole new layer of depth to the story. Rebellion, trials, assassination attempts — it’s all happening, and I am here for the chaos.
Fern’s writing remains consistently immersive. You don’t have to work hard to imagine the world — it’s already alive around you. The plot twists keep coming, and you know there’s always another one waiting around the corner.
⸻
🖤 Later in the Book (75% mark)
They’re mated. Of course they are. The Court of the Fallen doesn’t believe in such things, but we knew these two were headed there. The bond between them is intense — they feel each other’s emotions, and when one hurts, the other suffers too. Naturally, that means Cassie must be protected… because keeping her safe means keeping Kieran safe.
And just when you think you’ve caught your breath, another twist hits. My heart barely had time to recover before Fern threw another bombshell into the mix. I was not prepared.
⸻
🪩 Final Thoughts
Starfallen is a rollercoaster — fast-paced, twisty, emotional, and utterly addictive. It’s a story that constantly deepens as you read, with pieces falling into place in satisfying and surprising ways. The world is vivid, the characters unforgettable, and the writing masterfully done.
I adore books that give you a full, satisfying arc and leave room for more — and this one does exactly that. It wraps up beautifully while opening the door for book two… which, I have no doubt, will be filled with betrayal, fire, passion, and even more heart-stopping action.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — This is everything I want in a romantasy and more. I’m completely obsessed.
