They made themselves known to Earth on September 15th, 2155, by attacking on the most difficult day of the week. Monday. Their placid teal skin, elongated heads, and spider-like fingered kind flooded the streets and caused limitless mayhem. Hundreds of thousands, if not millions, died that day. The survivors were rounded up and kept within man-made fortresses, their fate to be determined at a later date while the aliens began stripping Earth of its remaining precious metals. Soon after the aliens began, they realized that their technology was not capable of the delicate process and they didn’t know how to use the man-made equipment.
Rather than finding live humans that were able to do the job, they decided to revive the brains of the dead humans found on the mining sites with the brief help of human scientists. Together, they created walking corpses with active brains that behaved just as they had when alive. Only differences were that body parts fell off of them and they needed flesh to survive off of. The aliens and our own scientists had created what mankind had feared for ages: smart zombies.
The humans that were rounded up like sheep within military bases and jails now counted their blessings for at least being protected from these latest creatures. The aliens were successfully collecting Earth’s resources and the human scientists were placed under the protection of them. It seemed that the aliens would leave once all of the resources were taken and the clean-up of the zombies could begin. The captured humans were grateful for the turn of events. Until their luck ran out…

When not penning the next novel, J.E. Feldman focuses on mentoring authors and raising money for charity. The literature world is merely one facet of her life. Feldman haunts car shows, anime conventions, medieval fairs, and whatever else catches her attention.

She enjoys road trips ripe with history, crocheting blankets for the homeless, and can be found reading in cramped bookstores.

This short story exemplified the Human spirit and shows what happens when there is nothing left to lose. short, yet dramatic, with the promise of hope at the end
