Oops! I Fell For The QB: A High School Enemies-to-lovers Rom-com

Rate this book
Knock knock.
Who's there?
Your fake quarterback therapist.

°*°
When wildly dramatic, Shakespeare-obsessed Olivia joins an anonymous roleplay app as a fake therapist (don’t ask), she expects harmless fun — not an emotional situationship with the sarcastic, too-perceptive “Dr. Cross.”

Behind voice filters, they trauma-bond and flirt like professionals.

Then reality hits.

Dr. Cross is actually Jaxon — the school’s quarterback… and her ex’s best friend. Of course he is.

Now stuck together on a magical yacht trip featuring glowing oceans, shapeshifters, sea sickness, cheerleaders, and — yes — his mermaid ex, Olivia must survive forced proximity, secret identities, and terminal unresolved tension.

What happens when the person who knows you best is also the one person you’re supposed to avoid?

A sharp, funny, slow-burn romance with magic, messy teenagers, and enough tension to capsize a yacht—this is a story about vulnerability, identity, and falling in love when the masks finally come off.

ARC READ - received from author ✨

Very light YA romance with a bit of magic and fantasy elements - I wouldn’t put it on romantasy shelf. Very good for cleansing after dark book or if you need a change of scenery 🫶

This was such a cute read!

It’s a ya, fantasy romance and it was so cozy! When I first started I forgot it had fantasy in it and then there was a character with hooves and I went 👀👀👀 and realized my mistake! I loved how subtle everything was and thing the premise of “fake therapists” for a project in school was such a creative idea.

I really enjoyed the characters and plot of this one and look forward to more from this author!

This was such a cute read! I received this arc from the author and I truly enjoyed it. I loved the world that Liam created (Fear Pong sounds like fun!). I also loved the back and forth POV between the two MCs. Like Liam would have a scene and we would first read the situation from Jaxon’s pov, then we would have the same situation from Olivia’s perspective. And the poem at the end was a nice touch and had me in tears.
Definitely worth a read

Well I read this book in one afternoon! Oops I fell for the QB is a young adult fantasy romance story. Olivia and Jaxon attend school together, but had previously met online through a game where they have fake names and using voice modifiers. They get paired up to attend a history cruise with a variety of students who enjoy history. During which they experience many wild experiences! There’s a magical mirror maze, a tricky ghost town, magical creatures, and a yacht that almost feels like it’s alive!

This was an entertaining read. If you’re looking to get lost in a fantasy story, this is an easy one to pick up. Look for it when it releases May 5th! Thank you to the Author, Liam McMarsha, for providing an eARC copy of this book in exchange for a review!

I enjoyed every single page. I was hooked from the very beginning and just couldn't stop reading.

I loved the development of every character. At first, I wasn't a fan of the ex (Kyle), but I ended up understanding him a little more.

there are so many things I loved about this book that I’m almost speechless! 🤭
I laughed, I cried, and I even got a little angry. The story between Jaxon and Olivia is so beautiful. 🥰

Also, I definitely want a friend like Fri, Olivia's best friend

And I want to say that if you are a Swiftie, this is a must - read! 🤭❤️

thank you so much Author Liam for letting me read your book before the publication date.

"What if the person who understands you the most… is the one you’d be most uncomfortable facing in real life?"

Oops! I Fell for the QB by @liammcmarsha hit that exact nerve for me.

📖Plot:

Olivia forms this raw, honest connection with an anonymous “therapist”online....only to find out he’s Jaxon, the quarterback already tangled in her real life. And suddenly, everything that felt safe, honest and distant becomes awkward, intense and very very real.
Forced proximity through a school sponsored trip intensifies the tension in the story, blending emotional vulnerability with social discomfort, past heartbreak and the slow, reluctant unraveling of guarded identities and emotions of the protagonist.

💜What I liked:

I genuinely loved the writing.... it’s witty, it's chaotic and so relatable, especially if you’re in your 20s and figuring things out. Olivia’s inner chaos felt real, not forced or filtered. And Jaxon’s POV added a depth I wasn’t expecting.
Their dynamic after the revelation? It was messy, awkward, engaging and honestly…..very human. Me likkkeeeeyyy.

🚫What didn’t fully work:

Nothing big as such just that the beginning was slightly slow for me and I wish a few side characters had more depth.

🫶🏻My final word:

This one felt less like a typical romance and more like a story about vulnerability, about who we are when no one’s watching vs when someone finally is. In other words let's say "It's a story about being seen....like really seen and how scary and beautiful that can be".

Thank you Liam for the advance copy and trusting me with this one, looking forward to reading more of your work !!💜

I have enjoyed other books by the author and Oops? I fell for the qb certainly didn't disappoint. This was such a fun and easy to follow read. I was hooked from the very first page and I kept reading until the end as I wanted to know what happened. The story was cute and easy to follow and had a good cast of characters. For a young author, who is early on in his career the story is well written and had good pacing. Overall a good book that I highly recommend to other readers. I look forward to reading more by the author.

Book Review

I was happy when the author reached out and asked if I’d be interested in reading and reviewing OOPS! I Fell for the QB by Liam McMarsha — and it ended up being such a fun surprise.

This definitely isn’t as spicy as what I normally gravitate toward, but I still genuinely enjoyed the ride. It gave me major nostalgic high school vibes while mixing in shape shifters, mermaids, enchantment, and fantasy elements in a way that somehow still felt grounded in real-life teenage drama.

One of my favorite parts was how casually the supernatural aspects were woven into the story. The shifting and magical elements being completely normal for these students on their excursion made the world feel unique without being overcomplicated. Add in the yacht scenes and gossip-filled tension, and it honestly gave me a little bit of Gossip Girl energy with a fantasy twist.

I also loved that I never fully knew what was going to happen next. Just when I thought I had things figured out, another layer of enchantment or surprise popped up.

If you enjoy YA romance with fantasy vibes, high school drama, magical creatures, and a story that keeps you guessing, this one is worth checking out.

ARC review ✨🌷

This book was such a fun, wholesome ride
I finished it in just two sittings because I LITERALLY COULDN'T STOP.

The beginning had me giggling non-stop. It was so funny and light, and I was instantly hooked.

The whole setup getting called to the principal’s office and ending up stuck working with the quarterback, who also happens to be the guy from her fake agency app!!??
Was SO entertaining.😁

What really surprised me was the magical element.✨

I did not expect a rom-com to have that twist, but it made the story feel so fresh and different. It added this unique charm that made the book even more enjoyable.

OLIVIA AND JAXON were absolute cuties. Their chemistry was adorable, and their story felt soft, cozy, and genuinely heartwarming & the ending??

I actually got teary because I was so happy for them.🥹😭

If you’re looking for something fun, wholesome, a little magical, and perfect for a feel-good reading session, this is definitely one to pick up.❤️✨

First of all thank you to Liam McMarsha for sending me an ARC copy of 'Oops l fell for the QB' ❤️

Sweet & quiet Olivia is getting through high school but when she finds out her anonymous therapist who's not actually a therapist is the schools QB also her ex's best friend, she's thrown into close proximity on a school trip. Jaxon has a secret & is scared of it coming out but when he meets Olivia he can't avoid the connection they share....

If you're looking for a light, cute YA romance book with a touch of magic & fantasy then this book is for you! I like how it has a bit of every book genre I love, sports, fantasy & romance. A slow burn, messy teenagers & magic thrown into the mix you just know things aren't gonna be simple but definitely fun. I was fully invested in Olivia & Jaxon's story, I ended up reading it in one night to find out what happens next! I loved the characters & the magical yacht I need one of those!! ❤️

My first book of Liam's & I will definitely be adding more to my TBR in the future! 💕

I had such a fun time with OOPS! I FELL FOR THE QB. The humour and banter were consistently entertaining, and as a certified drama queen and chronic overthinker, I found Olivia and Jaxon’s characters deeply relatable.
I especially appreciated how Kyle’s character was given emotional depth rather than being reduced to a stereotypical ex. The magical touches added a playful charm that kept the story from being predictable, and the Fate of Ophelia references were a highlight for me. One of my favourite lines: “After all, even Ophelia was allowed a taste of love before her doom.”

Overall, it was wonderfully genuine, chaotic and deep, dealing with themes of grief and ADHD while still delivering a feel-good reading experience, this book truly left me smiling.

I received this book as an ARC.

I quite enjoyed this one! It's been a while since I've read a high school romance. Sometimes I forget how hard and emotional high school was. Reading this brought back some memories.
I really liked Olivia and Jaxon. They were both very relatable, especially as someone that can be an over-thinker. I also really loved the hint of fantasy too. It wasn't full romantasy style but the little hints here and there were nice, I especially liked how the author described everything.

If you want a cute high school book with a hint of fantasy this one is for you. Check it out on May 3!

This is easily my best work so far.

I didn’t just write this book—I poured myself into it. Every scene, every line, every moment carries something real. You can feel the passion in the way the story unfolds, in the characters, in the emotions that refuse to stay quiet.

It’s the kind of story I didn’t rush, didn’t fake, didn’t hold back on. I let it be messy where it needed to be, intense where it mattered, and honest all the way through.

And I think that’s what makes it different.

This one means something. 💫

This young adult fantasy rom com is a beautifully real and messy story that deals with self acceptance, grief, ADHD diagnosis, love and a school tour on a yacht to magical places. At the start I thought I was in for a normal high school romance, the next there are magical creatures and the coolest game of ‘fear’ pong I have ever experienced. And some of my favourite reading tropes in enemies to lovers, forced proximity and grumpy x sunshine just to name a few.
Overall a delightful read and I am super grateful to the author for allowing me to read the arc!

Blurb:-

Olivia Carter is a high schooler who has sworn off athletes after a devastating breakup with her ex-boyfriend. She starts using an app as an anonymous therapist named Dr. Ophelia, where she meets mysterious user called Dr. Cross. The tension escalates when she discovers that her digital confidant is actually Jaxon Cross, the new celebrity quarterback at Paramount High and the best friend of her ex. Trapped together on a magical yacht trip , they have to navigate their messy real world history while grappling with the vulnerable truths they shared in secret.

Review:-

This story shines because of its ability to blend high stakes drama with genuine heart. The banter between Olivia and Jaxon is sharp and addictive, providing a perfect contrast to the heavier themes of ADHD and the weight of social expectations. The magical setting adds a whimsical layer that makes the typical high school experience feel cinematic and fresh, while the exploration of grief and self-acceptance gives the plot more weight. It is a compelling look at how we hide behind labels and the courage it takes to let someone see the unedited version of our lives.

The concept of a "Historical Trade Route" yacht trip for high schoolers provides a perfect "forced proximity" setting. The inclusion of magical elements like shape shifting friends adds a unique layer of fun.

Such a cute read !! It's been a while since I read a YA book but honestly I'm glad I read this one. The tension and bickering between both main characters was cute, it takes me back to my highschool days lol ... I loved Olivia's snarky comments... It was honestly a fun read and definelty a palette cleanser and a beautiful break from my previous reads.
