The best compliment I can give a book was that it was different and unique enough to surprise me. Waiting for April was able to do just that. Beautifully romantic, packed with secrets and twists, this book was brilliant. It took the used-before concept on reincarnation and made it into a new story that had me absorbed from page 1. I absolutely loved this book.
April was a great heroine. She wasn't perfect. She had flaws and made mistakes but, at the end of the day, she was kind, determined, and admitted to her mistakes. I thought she was lovely.
I absolutely adored Scott. He was so purely devoted to April. To him, her happiness was of the utmost importance, even if that meant stepping aside and letting her live her own life. He had been through a lot in the years he repeatedly lost and found April and that made him a deep and easily sympathetic character. Not to mention he was totally swoon-worthy and so sweet. I just loved him.
The romance was a delight. Things started off rocky but there was never a doubt that April and Scott loved each other, even before April knew the truth of her past. They were the type of couple who would die for each other or wait for each other, whatever needed to be done so that they could be together. And, there was some seriously hot chemistry between these two. Let's just say they couldn't keep their hands off of each other. I thought they were perfect together.
The plot moved quickly, keeping me hooked right from the start. There were a few twists along the way, along with some secrets that took me by surprise. I loved the story and the ending just about shattered my heart. There had better be a sequel because there is so much more of the story to tell and my heart can't accept the ending as it is. Here's hoping for a book 2!

Oh. My. God.
After reading so many disappointing books so far this year imagine my surprise when one of my favorite books not just of 2015, but of recent memory is a book I requested at random from NetGalley. This book has everything a fantasy, young adult lover who also appreciates smut could want.
Hot guy? Check.
Smart girl who stands up for herself and plays an active role in the outcome of her story? Check.
Sex portrayed as both ah-mazing, but also with potential consequences? Check.
Realistic pacing that makes you believe in the story, but also leaves you desperate for the characters to just KISS ALREADY? CHECK!!
Okay, I could go on with my checklist, but I think you get the picture at this point...I really liked this book. At it's heart this book is about star crossed lovers who are separated tragically by our female protagonist's, April, death...er make that deaths. April is currently on her 20th life and doesn't remember her past lives, which is a bummer for her soul mate, Scott, who has lost her over and over again for about 300 years. Scott has tried to save April again and again, sometimes he stays away, other times he makes her fall in love with him all over again, but this time things go differently...April learns the truth about her and Scott and their tragic past and precarious future. But it doesn't seem like this new path is going to be enough to save April and Scott from tragedy because the grim reaper continues to come for April and the young (well actually really old) couple must discover what is at the root of Scott's immortality and April's reincarnations in order to have any hope at a happy ending.
Overall, this book was a thrilling read that consumed me until I finally reached the final page. I loved the dual POVs because hearing from both Scott and April really allowed me to understand their relationship more fully. Scott and April's relationship was realistic and both tantalizingly sweet and incredibly angst ridden. The fantasy element had a truly dark overtone to it. Additionally, Jamie Loren wrote Scott and April's relationship with a new adult, rather than young adult flare (aka amazingggg sex scenes.) While dark fantasy and sex scenes are right up my alley, I would recommend this for mature teens and adults only.
The only reason this book is receiving four, rather than five stars is because of some minor issues I had with historical accuracy in Loren's flashback scenes of Scott and April's past lives. A few just seemed out of touch with the reality of the 1700s, in regard to dialogue and behavior. Additionally, I really struggled with the supporting character of Rowan who is April's boyfriend at the start of the story. His story arc was confusing and never fully fleshed out. However, this is contrasted with the fabulous story arc of fellow side character Henry, an elderly WWII vet, who is simply put an amazing character.
I would highly recommend this book for fantasy and/or romance fans who love young adult, but often wish it was a bit more mature and/or lovers of new adult who wish there were more books with plots going beyond relationship drama and smut.
Also, the ending left me like this...
BUT don't worry this book is part of a trilogy!! (I Googled this as soon as finishing the book because that ending nearly killed me.)

A breathtaking and stunning debut novel from Jaime Loren!! Great for fans of reincarnated romances.
My Thoughts:
1. I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this book! I'll be honest, I was really nervous going into this book because I've read plenty of romance books about reincarnation and there's only so much you can write about before it becomes repetitive or predictable. BUT I loved how the author threw in unique plot twists which made the book so much more interesting!
2. It was hard to believe that this was the author's first novel because the writing flowed perfectly with the plot.
3. I can't figure out if this book is classified as YA or New Adult. I feel like it falls right in the middle between the two. It started out as a YA novel but some of the steamy scenes had me questioning the genre. Hmm...
4. I'm really glad the author chose to tell the story in April and Scott's POV cause it gave the story so much depth and emotion. GAHH! Someone tell me where I can find someone like Scott *swoons*
5. My only criticism was that the ending felt a little rushed. It was nice that the author added an epilogue but I want more! There's so much that I still need to know!
6. Overall, Waiting for April is a solid debut novel and I would definitely recommend it to romance lovers looking for something unique to read!

So I'm going to need this to be a series so I can know more!!!
I love stories about fated souls and Waiting For April had me interested at the first line of the summary. I actually stumbled across this book in my Facebook feed and am glad I did – I enjoyed this book and sincerely hope there is more to come.
April Fletcher thinks she is just a normal teenager who has a wonderful boyfriend, a great best friend, and clear plans for her future. Little does she know that she has died nineteen times before her 18th birthday and her best friend, Scott is a boy she has known since the first time she died in 1729. The mystery tied into the story is how April continues to die and why it has created an impact on Scott’s existence.
Scott Parker continues to struggle to find out what is really going on with April and why he is locked in an existence where he is invincible until the moment she tells him she loves him. Once that happens, April is yanked away from him somehow and his life freezes until she comes back into his life for the next time around.
In this iteration of their lives, Scott and April are best friends but when they go to a cabin for a weekend trip with their respective boyfriend/girlfriend, Scott ends up sharing the details of their lives with April. While April struggles with the details, the relationship between Scott and April changes and they come to realize they need to find out what is really going on and why it is happening to them.
I have to admit, at first I wasn’t a huge fan of April as a character. For some reason, she drove me a bit crazy – it may have been because of her initial reaction to Scott telling her about his feelings for her…I’m not sure but she did grow on me as the story progressed. Scott was swoony and lovely…I thought the way Loren portrayed him was perfect and he was so wonderfully supportive of everything April wanted – even if he thought it wouldn’t include him.
I can’t really say much about the mystery behind the overall story as I don’t want to give anything away. There were some twists to this story that were completely unexpected and I couldn’t stop reading because I needed to know what was going to happen for these two. The end of this book was brutal (in a good way…) and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book – I know it isn’t listed as a series but I did see that Jaime Loren indicated this would be a trilogy…which has made me SUPER excited!
If you are looking for an intriguing story with some well-developed characters definitely check this one out. I will say, Loren knows how to write some swoon and angst…both things that make a wonderful story. Get this one when you can!

There had better be a sequel to this book or I’m going to be very unhappy!! Have I got your attention now? I hope so because this was a really great story! It’s not the first book I’ve ever read about soul mates and reincarnation but it certainly is a fantastic addition to this genre. I will admit that I originally requested this book in large part because of it’s gorgeous cover. Yes, I can be shallow that way…but when there are so many books out there, sometimes it’s the ones that catch your eye that are given the chance. However, I’m excited to report that the beautiful cover is only the beginning here!
First off, the storyline is wonderful. April believes herself to be just a normal 17 year old girl with good friends and a happy life. However, there’s more to her story than she knows. Turns out that this is April’s 20th time being 17…yup, she never makes it to her 18 birthday, no matter how many lives she leads. And, as if that discovery is not enough, she also learns that her best friend, Scott, has lived all these lives with her. He was there to watch her die the first time and has been part of her life (or should I say lives) ever since. Oh, and he’s her soul mate! And what an incredible soul mate he is. Scott’s single focus in life is to protect and love April. He’s kind, sweet, funny, sexy and smart. He’s got everything…except the information he needs to keep April from dying again.
These two characters were fantastic! April is a strong girl who, even though she makes some mistakes along the way, uses her intelligence in attempt to work through the mystery that is her life. Her strength is tested constantly as she begins to have memories of her past, yet she continues to have the desire to unravel the mysteries before her. Their romance is amazing. It started in the 1700′s and continued to this day. You can’t get more epic than that! Their chemistry is strong and you can’t help but cheer them on especially in the difficult times.
There are some twists and turn that you may not see coming and there are some wonderful secondary characters that add so much to this story as well. And the end…oh, then end…I can’t even with the end! This is really a great story and, I hope, the beginning of a great series. I know I’ll be on the look out for the next book and I definitely recommend you give this one a try!

Every now and again I browse NetGalley and can’t stop myself from requesting a few books here and there. Not ones I had specifically gone on to NetGalley to request, ones that I had never heard of but saw and couldn’t pass up. Waiting for April was one of those kinds of books. I saw it and it sounded so good I knew I had to request it. I even did a little dance when I got the approval email! I know, I’m a geek - but book geeks are the best geeks, right?!
So, I got the approval and just had to start reading it right away, and I found that I couldn’t put it down! I love it when that happens! I’ve read one other reincarnation story before and unfortunately I couldn’t finish it. Waiting for April is was different and definitely a page turner. The more I read the more I wanted to read and the faster I flew through it, resulting in me finishing it within a day.
There was a lot of information for the reader to learn in Waiting for April which resulted in it being a long book but thankfully it was well paced and never seemed to drag along. I was riveted as I found out more about April’s past lives, how she and Scott had met and fallen in love in each one and how she had died a premature death each time.
Scott was a worthy romantic lead and Jaime Loren wrote him well. April was a feisty, fearless young woman and took everything in her stride as Scott shared all that he knew with her. I loved how deep Scott’s love was for April and how he had devoted his VERY long life to solving the mystery of her early deaths. I also loved how April was involved in working things out, it’s safe to say that I would have been too freaked out to be of any help!
The biggest shock in the story was how other people were involved in April and Scott’s story, and it got to a point where I was wondering who they could trust. When things were revealed towards the end I was opened mouthed in shock!
One thing I will say is that the ending didn’t tie everything up as nicely as I would have liked BUT I have heard that there will be a sequel so I’m happy to wait and see what the author has in store for her readers. I’ll be in line patiently waiting for that one!

July 8, 2017I read an early draft of this book and thought it fantastic then. But I just finished the newest draft--the 99.9% finished version--and IT. IS. PHENOMENAL.
So many feeeeeelingggsssss. April and Scott are such wonderful protags. I adore April to death (lolol, death... sorry, April, bad joke). And Scott is super swoony. Also, they're hilarious, and their ability to retain a sense of humor in spite of what they're going through is lovely.
The story is tense and twisty and sexy and well written. There's the touch of the supernatural while remaining firmly grounded in the real world. Must read!

This book was a roller coaster that took me through a myriad of emotions. I laughed, I cried, I *sqeeued* with joy and lashed out in frustration. I blushed, I cringed, I gaped and gasped and most importantly, I loved every moment of it.
Waiting for April is a book that reaches past the boundaries and brings in a touch of the supernatural while still keeping the reader firmly planted in reality. It is a smooth blend of romance and mystery, topped with a little fantasy and a drop of thrills to make one excellent read.
April is our heroine in this story of true love and reincarnation and though still young at the tender age of 17, she already has her life planned out. Out for school break, before graduating and heading off to Harvard, she has planned a trip with her two best friends, Stella and Scott and her boyfriend Rowan, to a cabin in a remote area that Scott has found and rented for them. Little does April know, that nothing is what it seems and her whole life is about to change forever.
Lies and deceit are only the beginning of April's problems as it becomes apparent that trying to stay alive is her number one priority. With twists and turns and more questions than answers, no one can be trusted and with time running out and shocking secrets revealed, can a love that has burned for centuries save her or will a hatred that has turned to evil consume them all?
I devoured this book and turned page after page, through the wee hours of the morning, stopping long enough to drink coffee, until reading the very last page in the shine of the afternoon sun. If I had to say anything negative about this book, it would be the ages of the main characters. They read more in my mind as older and with some of the subject matter, it seemed only appropriate they should be older, but that was a mild nag and nothing to keep me from reading it.
I would definitely recommend to any reader that enjoys romance with a little thrill along the way!

Waiting for April is a book that reaches past the boundaries and brings in a touch of the supernatural while still keeping the reader firmly planted in reality. It is a smooth blend of romance and mystery, topped with a little fantasy and a drop of thrills to make one excellent read.
April is our heroine in this story of true love and reincarnation and though still young at the tender age of 17, she already has her life planned out. Out for school break, before graduating and heading off to Harvard, she has planned a trip with her two best friends, Stella and Scott and her boyfriend Rowan, to a cabin in a remote area that Scott has found and rented for them. Little does April know, that nothing is what it seems and her whole life is about to change forever.
Lies and deceit are only the beginning of April's problems as it becomes apparent that trying to stay alive is her number one priority. With twists and turns and more questions than answers, no one can be trusted and with time running out and shocking secrets revealed, can a love that has burned for centuries save her or will a hatred that has turned to evil consume them all?
I devoured this book and turned page after page, through the wee hours of the morning, stopping long enough to drink coffee, until reading the very last page in the shine of the afternoon sun. If I had to say anything negative about this book, it would be the ages of the main characters. They read more in my mind as older and with some of the subject matter, it seemed only appropriate they should be older, but that was a mild nag and nothing to keep me from reading it.
I would definitely recommend to any reader that enjoys romance with a little thrill along the way!

Waiting for April by Jaime Loren was all 5 out of 5 stars in my book! I finished this late last night and it took me a while to process what I'd read, in the best kind of way.
We're instantly introduced to April and as the jacket states, she's died 19 times. That instantly drew me in. Why has she died? Why has she always came back?
At the heart and soul of her deaths and reincarnations is the leading male character, Scott Parker.
Without giving too much away, April is tethered to him in life and beyond death. Ms. Loren did an incredible job conveying the depths of Scott's despair at finding her each time, loving her each time and watching her die each time.
I could feel his genuine love for a girl that always slipped through his hands right as he found her and right as her soul recognized his.
To find out what and who was behind this great mystery was shocking to say the least. While the secondary characters were fleshed out in great detail, I had no idea they were connected in such a way. I didn't see the end coming. The twist at the end of the book caused me to lose some sleep only from the shock of it.
The timelines in the book and historical detail were perfect, weaving together a magical story through the centuries.
Overall, I'd recommend Waiting for April to lovers of paranormal. The premise of Waiting for April was a wonderful story about love, loss, and hope...hope that when you love someone, in one way or another, they will always come back to you.
I sincerely hope Ms. Loren has book two in progress. While Waiting for April can certainly be considered a stand alone, there is so much more that I want to know. These characters were endearing and will be remembered long after reading the last page.

This book...I don't even know where to start because I have so many feelings! This was a great, refreshing, unique paranormal read. Its not your average read about wolves, vampires, gods, keepers, angels, demons, etc that plague the paranormal genre today. Waiting for April was the tale about immortality and reincarnation. It was the story of how true love endures, no matter the hardships it faces. Scott sits, waits, and contemplates how to win April over in every lifetime. April falls head over heels in love with Scott in lifetime.
The story is truly heartbreaking and the ending tears me apart. I have so many unanswered questions, there were twists, turns, and complete deception and my heart was shattering, I was on the verge of tears and then it just ended. What happened to Henry? What about Scott? Will they ever find their happiness? What about Tom? What about the others? Thankfully, this will be part of a trilogy, and hopefully I won't have to wait terribly long to dive into the next book. If you are a fan of time travel, this book is absolutely a must read!

For the most part, I liked this book. I was not crazy about the ending. Not sure if it is a cliffhanger or what...there is a second book but blurb centers around another character. Prior to starting it, I double checked on Amazon site to see if there was any mention of a cliffy but did not see anything....kinda left feeling frustrated....

What I Loved/Liked About This Book:
- Waiting for April was so different than any other paranormal book I have ever read. It's truly in a category all its own.
- The book had me guessing right up until the end. I had my suspicions about many of the characters, but I was dumbfounded by what was revealed.
- I loved, loved, loved the characters. They were each committed to their role and remained consistent to the end. With that said, the villains were something else. I want to better understand what, "...something your books don't even have a name for," means.
- The forever love that the protagonists shared was so beautiful.
- The sacrifice that Scott made... (I'm shattered!)

- The Rowan ending and the emphasized date...how does that play into everything we uncovered in this story?
- Are there two alternate realities happening at the same time?
- Was Henry like Rowan?
- What happens with Tom and Henry?

The first words out of my mouth when I finished this book were, "Oh - wait - but - no!" I think that sums up this book pretty well.
Scott Parker has been chasing the love of his life for nearly three hundred years now. Each time April Fletcher dies, Scott knows that she'll be brought back to life, and he goes searching again for her. When the current reincarnation of April finally realizes who Scott truly is, everything in their lives change. They fall in love (again) and begin working together to figure out why April keeps dying and coming back, and why Scott has lived for three hundred years.
Someone I follow on Tumblr brought up this book (sorry, I don't remember who!) and it sounded interesting. So interesting, in fact, that I preordered it that day and also received an ARC from NetGalley, after I forgot that I had preordered it. That's okay, though, because having two of this book is not a bad thing. I was intrigued by the summary, but I couldn't even imagine what I got. There were so many twists in this book that I was surprised I wasn't a blubbering mess by the end. Even after swiping furiously as my Kindle (there had to be more pages! It can't just END like that!), I realized that I must have liked this book a lot more than I realized.
And I did. There's nothing NOT to like about this book. Scott is romantic and possibly immortal. April is tough and smart. Even the secondary characters felt real, like Rowan, current April's boyfriend, and Stella, current April's best friend. The added magic in this book felt just like that - magic. I thought this would be full of sickly romance - and it is, but it's not so cloying when it comes in a package like Scott Parker and his three hundred year old mission to keep his soulmate safe.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: This is a book that I picked up to read solely based on the cover. I saw it on Netgalley and thought it looked pretty.
Usually, that leads to a book that really wasn't all that good. This time, I was pleasantly surprised. I thought Loren's idea for this novel was actually quite original and intriguing.
I liked the characters of Scott and April. They both had flaws and quirks. I especially liked Scott's character. He was interesting to read about. Watching him battle what to do about April was very intriguing.
The story had good pacing. It never really felt bogged down. The only thing that I think could have been better was the supporting cast of characters weren't very well developed. I also thought that the ending was a little bit rushed.
After that ending, there better be a sequel. That's all I have to say.
So why 4 stars? It was intriguing and different. I thought that the author explored intriguing concepts.
Warnings/Side-notes: Okay this is a hard one to classify. This scene had some references to sex. They were more detailed than most YA novels, and yet not as detailed as most new adult novels. I'd recommend for 17+.
The Wrap-up: If you're looking for an intriguing novel that's different than novels you've previously read, then give this one a try. Loren's debut is a great read, and like I said, after that ending I really hope there's a sequel.

This story is decent if you're looking for just a romance. The problem overall, however, is that it's not just a romance. There the angle of reincarnation, with a theme of soul mates who will find each other in any time or place.
The characters are presented well, each being fairly memorable and unique. The concept of the story is a good one. Sadly, it just doesn't mesh together. There is entirely too much time devoted to the coupling-up of April and Scott. A mystery is hinted at. Intrigue is introduced. Danger is definitely dangled. But the development of plot isn't really there.
I felt as if the ending was rather slapped together, not to mention unsatisfactory. If you have read any of my other reviews you'll know that I am not always a fan of a happy ending. I love an ending that leaves you feeling a little cheated, so long as the ending makes sense for the rest of the story. But the suspense is quickly flung into an overly dramatic, not-clearly-explained mash-up of plot twists that leaves you dangling over the edge of a cliff by your fingernails.
I can't say I recommend this book, but I'll leave it up to you whether or not you'll read it. Just don't be surprised if you're not a huge fan by the last page.

I didn't know anything about this book before I started reading. I'll make a disclaimer: I like books that are unpredictable. I like it when I think I have a book pegged, then it sideswipes me by taking a different direction. Waiting for April is about as unpredictable as they come.
I don't want to spoil this book for anyone, so I won't give story details. Suffice it to say that the writing is tight, the concept is both unique and fantastic, and the characters are realistic. Some I loved, some I didn't love so much. Some I suspected of being not quite who they claimed to be, and others I took at face value (and hoped I was right). And when I thought I had it all figured out and locked in, Jaime threw in a perfectly good surprise that knocked the smugness right off my face.

WAITING FOR APRIL was one of those books you can tell has been written with a lot of thought and heart. It was perfectly paced, full of depth and detail, and had a romance that was oh-so-swoon-worthy. I read so much of it with a smile on my face, the chemistry between Scott and April warm and cheeky--they weren’t afraid to push each buttons and have fun doing it. And did I mention hot, amazing sex scenes?!
The flashbacks were SO well done and made the story for me. Not only did we get to travel through time, the memories were always linked to today, showing the deep impact each one had on Scott and April. The unexpected involvement of the secondary characters was very well played, and Henry was so freakin’ adorable. I just want to give him a hug and make him a cup of tea.
The story threw some gasp-worthy twists and the ending was *dies* so sad, but it fit the story and the characters PERFECTLY. Let me just say, THANK GOODNESS there are two more books!

First off can i just say... that cover?! Amiright?? Absolutely gorgeous!! It's the first thing that drew me to it and had me looking into it on netgalley to see what it was all about.. and then the synopsis sounded amazing... i was SO excited when i got approved to read this. I actually emailed a friend of mine the synopsis and she said it gave her goosebumps and she was immediately adding it to her tbr.
I really really enjoyed this. I really liked that we had the dual perspectives from both April and Scott's points of view because i just felt like it gave us this really well rounded picture of their relationship.
A small aspect of the book i had a little trouble with was the historical aspects, some parts of these, especially the 1729 parts, just didn't seem entirely accurate to the time period.
I was also left slightly confused by a couple of aspects of the end of the story but knowing now that this is the first book in a trilogy i'm sure these things are going to be further fleshed out in the next installment.. which i can't wait for!

This is the first book that I have read that involved reincarnation and it had me very interested in from the very first page. I like that there was a bit of a mystery within the story; why is Scott immortal and why does April keep dying but to return with the same name each time. I think that Jamie Loren did a great job with keeping it all a secret until the very end. I was not excepting the story to end the way it did.
The love that Scott had for April was amazing! I only care what was best for her. When he thought it would help, he would stay away. He had so much devotion and patience. April was of course drawn to him and since she doesn’t remember him from her past lives, she’s not sure why. I like that this story was told in a duel POV. I was able to understand what was going on in both of their heads and how each of them felt for each other.

Wow! This story is EPIC. The author brought us into her vision: this world where what we see is not what is. I am so hooked on Scott and April. Their love is beautiful. The kind that transcends time, tragedy, and circumstance. I am on pins and needles awaiting their fate. I'm not usually a fan of cliffhangers but this is magic. It's SO worth it. You have gained yourself a fan, Ms. Loren. You and your plot are ingrained in my heart. Did I mention I can't wait? LOL

I read an early draft of this book and loved it then. I loved it again when I read the finished book AND there were some surprises waiting for me! The changes only made this supernatural mystery romance even better. Can't wait for Jaime Loren's next book!

The romance between Scott and April makes your heart flutter with delight. Waiting For April is classified as New-Adult, despite April only being seventeen. Although the romance definitely gets a little hot and heavy, it’s tastefully done and developed.
The struggle that Scott goes through for each death is raw, painful, and passionate. His commitment and persistence to save April through each life is even more of a testament toward his strength and determination. As much as I love Scott Parker, April Fletcher is equally as fantastic. Her journey of rediscovering her love with Scott and building her past memories is beautiful. Her resistance and fear throughout her development provided an endearing quality to her character.
As much as I loved the romance, Waiting For April takes it even further by adding in a mysterious, suspenseful element. I wasn’t expecting this turn in direction, but it added something truly unique to the story. It felt like two stories coming together and meshing into this thrilling puzzle. Jaime Loren throws these twists at you that keep you flipping the pages to know more. And while I was recuperating from one twist, another was thrown in. It was an unexpectedly brilliant change in direction for the story.
I will admit, I was really worried when I flipped to the final page. There are a tremendous amount of unanswered questions that leave your heart ripped open. I did my homework, however, and Waiting For April will be the first book in a trilogy. I practically squealed with happiness. I can’t even imagine which direction the story is going.
