Everyone in the village where Lizzie lives thinks that she's a dreamer - so it's no wonder that they don't believe her when she says she's seen a witch. But Lizzie doesn't care because she knows it's true and having a witch for a friend makes life much more exciting. BLHelen Cresswell is a well-known writer and has written more than forty books. Wonderfully nostalgic read. I recently remembered watching the TV programme years ago, and was delighted to find this little volume second-hand. Great fun and you have to yearn for the days when a competition for growing leeks was the height of life's dramas 😄 .
When I was 7, a long time ago, this would have been a strong 5 Star. Unfortunately it did not live up to my memory of it during my current nostalgic re-reading of childhood faves.
I wouldn't recommend this book. I think the pace was very slow. There tends to be more blocks of writing than illustrations, suggesting that it should be for a more able reader.
