A knight bound by faith. A sorceress bound by secrets. Together, they must infiltrate a deadly fae court and confront a soul-stealing prince-before desire destroys them both.

The Witcher meets Serpent and Dove, Mistborn meets Crimson Peak, The Veil and the Vow is dark fantasy novel with forbidden romance, soul-bound magic, corrupt institutions, and elven political intrigue.

In the shadowed halls of the Storm Citadel, Sir Caelum Dorne has spent a decade forging himself into the Order's purest weapon-a knight whose faith is as unyielding as steel, whose vows are his only shield against the world's corruption.

But when a monstrous blight rises in the northern Fae Wilds, Caelum is forced into an unholy alliance with Lirael Vaunt, a sorceress whose very existence defies everything he has sworn to destroy. Begrudgingly linked to one another by order of the Citadel, they must defeat this evil before her sister is consumed by the machinations of the rogue prince.

Bound by a ritual that links their souls, Caelum and Lirael are thrust into a world of treacherous courts, soul-stealing magic, and forbidden desire. As they journey through haunted forests and decadent palaces, every step tests the limits of Caelum's faith and the depths of Lirael's secrets.

The enemy is not only the cruel Prince Eryndor, whose ambitions threaten to unravel the Veil between worlds, but the growing fire between knight and witch-a passion as dangerous as any blade. In The Veil and the Vow, loyalty and love collide in a battle for the soul of a kingdom.

Will Caelum cling to the purity that has defined him, or surrender to the chaos that could save them both? The fate of magic, and of their own hearts, hangs in the balance.

Serafina Furtado writes fantastical romances rooted in soft magic, tender devotion, and the kind of slow-burn longing that feels like coming home after a long-fought battle. She loves weaving stories where the heroines hold their own, where brooding protectors learn how to hope again, and every world feels like a place you could wander into on a misty morning.

When she’s not writing, Serafina can usually be found curled up with a blanket and a book, exploring new coffee shops, or scrolling endlessly on booktok. She believes stories are best shared with warmth, wonder, and a touch of stardust—and she hopes her books offer readers a place to rest, dream, and escape for a little while.

Her debut novel, The Veil and the Vow, is the beginning of that journey.

A Sweet and Enchanting Read ✨

The Veil and the Vow by Serafina Furtado is a beautifully woven tale filled with soft magic, quiet yearning, and the kind of gentle fantasy that wraps around you like a warm blanket. From the very first chapter, the story strikes a lovely balance between emotional depth and comforting charm, giving readers a world that feels both mystical and deeply human.

The romance unfolds with sweetness and sincerity—never rushed, never forced. Instead, it blossoms naturally, carried by heartfelt moments, meaningful glances, and the unspoken promises between two souls who are clearly meant to find their way to each other. Furtado’s prose is lyrical without being heavy, and her world building brings a dreamy, candlelit glow to the story.

While the pacing can be soft and steady, the payoff is worth it, delivering tenderness, hope, and an ending that leaves you smiling. This is the perfect book for readers who want romance wrapped in magic, emotion wrapped in beauty, and a journey that feels like a quiet exhale.

A sweet, enchanting read I’m very glad to have picked up. 💖✨

I greatly enjoyed this book and am very excited to see how the story develops.

The characters were emotionally layered, and their growth was apparent throughout the narrative. The slow burn romance development complemented the overall plot in a natural way and didn't feel rushed like it so often can in this type of story.

I appreciated the attention to world-building and how the environment was subtly integrated to support key elements of the story. While some of the phrasing used became repetitive at times, which briefly interrupted my immersion, I was soon able to re-engage with the narrative and completed the book in a single sitting.

ARC Review — voluntarily read & reviewed

I really enjoyed this story, especially the slow-building romance and the chance to see both characters’ growth from their own perspectives. Their connection felt natural and earned, which made the emotional moments land well.

The descriptive writing was vivid and atmospheric, but at times it became a bit heavy and slowed the pacing—my only real critique. A little more restraint would have kept the story moving more smoothly.

Still, the creativity of the world, the tension between the characters, and the twist near the end kept me engaged. I’m excited to see where the author takes things in book two.

I felt like this book was a breath of fresh air. A nice poetic writing style with an in-depth view into the characters' thoughts, emotions, and motivations for their actions, and the upbringing that impacts their current situation and demeanor. It's definitely a fantasy and fiction novel, and yet I was drawn to the parallels in everyday life. It's a bit of a slow read if you are used to fast-paced movement in books. This is much more lyrical, which is actually what I liked. There is no cliffhanger at the end, but I still feel the need to read the next book to see what happens to the Lyriel, Seren, and the knight.

I devoured this book in under 2 days.

The yearning was magical. The lingering stares. The forbidden touches. The authors writing was poetic and filled with magical fantasy and their creativity really shines in this work.

This is not a fast paced book. This book was written to make you FEEL and immerse yourself within this world… and oh boy does it do that.

I loved how enchanting this felt. The writing had Rachel Gillig or Rebecca Ross vibes - very lyrical prose, with vivid imagery and emotional depth. I was immersed from the first chapter. I also really enjoyed having the dual perspectives of Caelum and Lirael. Both characters had wonderful growth throughout.

From Caelum, I did expect more hate (his Citadel is supposed to hate magic and everything Lirael is) and longer grappling with his feelings due to his intense, decade-long vow and suffering. Therefore, I also assumed there would be more yearning/tension with his struggle to resist. However, he crumbles pretty quickly, so I wouldn’t call this a true “enemies to lovers” trope.

Aside from wanting more yearning, tension, grappling, enemies, or whatever - I just wish there was a little more action in book 1. I truly loved it and it was almost a 5 star read for me. However, book 2 is set up to have all the quests now!

Thank you to BookSirens and the publisher/author for this ARC edition in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you so much to the author Serafina Furtado for this arc!

WOW. It has been a while since a story has touched me the way this one has.

The character development for both Caelum and Lirael was seriously unmatched. I love how the reader is experiencing both their individual personal growth AND the slow building of trust/mutual understanding/respect of their partnership during the story.

I also loved the romance. This is a serious slow burn, and is refreshingly real and believable. The yearning and tension was sooo good.

The writing was slightly repetitive at times however the prose was so beautiful I honestly did not even mind! The plot was unique and kept me engaged. Descriptions were lyrical without being confusing or too difficult to understand.

Overall this is such a great read - 6⭐️
I WILL be purchasing a physical copy as a book trophy when its released (not only because of the story but the cover is STUNNING)

Where do I even start with The Veil and The Vow. Let's start with...wow.

I started properly reading this on the train and let me tell you - I did not want that train journey to end 👀

The role reversal paired with the internal conflict of moral compasses and strong willed characters is 10/10 for me.

A magical journey with high stakes, a great antagonist and a meaningful experience for both the main characters ✨️

Honestly realllly enjoyed this book, it took over a few of my evenings and I even cancelled plans with my fiancé to read it (not that he minded, his XBOX was a great alternative 🤣) 👀

The tension was 👌🏻
The🌶 was 🤌🏻
The first kiss was 🙌🏻
And the story overall was 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

If you want to read it, do be forewarned about the ending, because now I'm impatiently tapping my foot waiting to get my hands on book 2 to see where this goes 😅

One of the best ARC's I've had the honour of being sent this year 🥰

**DNF at page 23**

Thank you BookSirens for an eARC copy of the Veil and the Vow!

As I have not read the book, I cannot provide any sort of accurate or unbiased review of the story itself. I will, however, provide the reasons why I DNF'D.

The primary reason why I abandoned The Veil and the Vow so early on is because the prose felt very clunky to me, and it kept pulling me out of the story. For example, Furtado wrote that the Fae Wilds was "a place where elven reign was as common as the dark and foul creatures there." Given that I was on page one, I had no idea how common said foul creatures were, which made it a moot comparison, IMO.

There were more incidences of awkward phrasing on subsequent pages that just kept making me cringe, until I finally threw in the towel. I'm glad that others have enjoyed this story, but sadly it wasn't for me. Best wishes to the author, though!

* 5 stars. received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. i was intrigued by the premise when it popped up on my tiktok and i RAN to BookSirens to get a copy of the ARC. there's some grammatical and formatting errors as well as some run-on sentences but nothing that takes the enjoyment out of the author's prose. i really enjoy the way she writes and describes things, it's almost enchanting. the romance felt organic and incredibly well done. i do love me a proper slow burn and this one was done very well. i really enjoyed both main characters - Caelum is incredibly hard-headed and a bit naive due to his upbringing but it made him endearing. and Lirael was precious, the description of her magic and her appearance was enthralling, and i enjoyed how she interacted with Caelum. my only downside is i wish book two was already out!

Thank you Author for this arc!

The way this was so atmospheric, the writing was descriptive and I could picture it clear as day. The waxing lyricalness of it all. Stellar.

The yearning! The tension! The slow build! I loved it but it could have gone on longer. I felt Caelum gave in with a surprising lack of.... What's the word I'm thinking... Self-recrimination? For a guy that's been raised to hate the very essence of her, he didn't seem to mind. All that to say I still loved all of it.

Also the magic descriptions were interesting. The soul bond thing was super intriguing to me and I can't wait to see more of these two.

This gave off Lotr meets the Witcher vibes with evil elves and I was here for it.

My first love of reading as a child was fantasy. I loved the escape of living in a different world with different rules. Magic, witches, otherworldly creatures offered an escape.

This book paints a fantastical world filled with intrigue and magic and the slow burning turmoil of the neverending battle of good vs evil, right vs wrong. It makes you question reality and delve into the very depths of your soul to find that evil masquerades as beauty and what you thought you knew isn'talways as it seems. I loved the escape this book provided, and I can't wait to read book 2.

I received this as an ARC copy and choose to leave my honest review. I did really enjoy the book and the two main characters. It's refreshing just to have a nice building romance instead of one thrown together for the sake of a romantasy. I also enjoyed getting to see inside the minds of both characters. And the twist towards the end! The only thing that kept it from being complete five stars was the amount of description. While it was helpful and nice, it could also be something that could overwhelm readers, especially with so much happening all at one time. Other than that, it was great and I can't wait to see what happens in book two!

I received this book as an ARC 💫

I absolutely LOVED this book! Couldn't put it down. Caelum, a knight who is adamant on keeping true to the vows that he swore, goes on a journey with Lirael, a witch who is trying to fight an evil she escaped from.

If you are looking for a mmc who yearns, here he is. A slow burn that is truely slow but so worth it. The magic is beautiful, the characters are deep and the storytelling is just amazing.

Can't wait until the next books comes out! 💕
