The Onyx Boughs of Keonis

Rate this book
Onyx can shatter, boughs can break, but love can rise victorious.

Ariadne, the Golden Rose and Dhemon Queen, never imagined herself at the head of an army. Now, after walking down the aisle for a second time, she has entangled herself in a game she does not want to play with the King of Valenul. With hardly any time for preparation, she must locate the dhemon ritual, save her husband from an eternal darkness within himself, and lay siege to her own kingdom.

But time is running out for Azriel, the broken and fading Dhemon King. Unable to hold back the images of his wife in the arms of another man or dead in his hands, his bond and mind is in tatters—unreachable by anyone other than Ariadne. With the shadows creeping in from all sides, he has two critical tasks: complete the ritual and kill the Vampire King.

Collecting unlikely allies from across Northern Myridia becomes a critical piece to the puzzle now that their enemy has discovered their secret. Everyone now knows the threat that dragons pose and Valenul is ready. Together, Ariadne and Azriel must use every possible avenue to ensure victory or die trying, because failure guarantees a life of misery.

4.5 ⭐️ Like the reviews before me, until the very end.

This had me on a rollercoaster of emotions, I’m so thankful I got to read it before it releases here in a few weeks. I cried probably the most I have in a book in a long long time.

So glad a certain someone finally met their end but they were 97% of the time my favorite unhinged POVs. The story neatly tied up all of the “loose” endings of the questions I had and the epilogue had all the fun surprises 🖤 my last thought is damn Emillie needs a vacation

“Every part of him craved the hunt.”

. “Ariadne?” “Wash her name from your mouth,” Whelan snarled, half out of his seat. “You do not have the privilege of even acknowledging her existence.” “I didn’t mean—”

When she had attempted to sit to Azriel’s left, he scoffed and dragged another chair to fit at the narrow end. Then he sat her in the large throne, taking the smaller seat for himself.

Until the very end! Ah I'm absolutely devastated this series is finished and I have to leave these characters behind. What an epic ending to a solid, engaging, and heartfelt series. As with the other books, the side characters are fully fleshed out and developed, so I find myself invested in every character, as I not often do with other books. The way these characters deal with their trauma and relationships feels so realistic. I very much appreciate how the one character in particular's death from the last book was dealt with, and it wasn't just brushed under the rug as the characters moved on to their next task.

And the villain, as always, is top notch. I love seeing his POV, and I just love to hate him, but also kinda love him in my own way. I very much look forward to the next journey this author takes us on, and until then I'll be telling all my friends to read the Dhemon Wars. Thank you for the eARC!

This finale reaaaaalllyyy had my anxiety going (and thats tablet controlled 😅) so just proves how unpredictable this ending could have gone! All i will say is that I was very happy that our villain got what they deserved in the end! I was on the edge of my seat the whole way through and there were a few "just one more chapter" moments! 😴 its all come down to a final fight and what a fight it is. Have some tissues ready, you may need them. 😢

The continued mention of a passed character had my heart swelling and reading just two simple words spoke, had me crying all over again! 😭😭
Ariadne Caldwell has come a VERY long way since The Golden Rose of Valenul and I have loved her development and transformation. Azriel "The Crowe" Tenebra Caldwell will forever be my only Azriel 🫶

TOBOK was an amazing finale to the series and we do get a HEA ending 🙌 I will forever love these characters and the whole series. I had to include this scene between Ariadne and Loren purely as it has brought us full circle from when it was mentioned in book 1.

ARC REVIEW - I received a copy of this book as an advanced reader copy.

The Onyx Boughs of Keonis. The last book of the first series I decided to join a street team for. Enna brought the series full circle with TOBOK. The characters grew from book 1 into book 4 in such a way that I couldn’t get enough of. Azriel fighting through his bond, from the beginning to the end was something wholly his, and at the same time his struggles was something one could relate to. Ariadne, my girl. My QUEEN. She rose even when her trauma tried to swallow her whole, and my my, the things she’s GONE THROUGH… she became an understanding, strong leader. Emillie’s growth was another that held fast to my heart. Madan and Whelan and their love and all that it ALSO endured. Ehrun’s character will surprise you. Loren might too. Or not.

So many characters made up this book; THIS SERIES. Enna will keep you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out who makes it to the last page. I wish I was kidding. As badly as I wanted to inhale the book, I SAVORED watching the development of all of these characters, one last time.

I AM SO HONORED to have been a part of their journey, with Enna. And I am devastated that the series is over. I honestly cannot wait for MORE from Enna. Enna, I love you! UNTIL THE VERY END.

Until the very end. And what an incredible ending to this series it was. The way the characters grew and moved throughout their circumstances and bonds was just perfectly told. All the characters were given their time to shine. I took my time with this because I wanted to spend as much time immersed in the world to finish it off.
Thank you so much for trusting me with the eARC. I cannot wait to see what is in store for Enna. Will definitely be eagerly anticipating the next beautiful story.

What a series!! This was an action packed, emotional roller coaster and a fantastic ending to this series! I loved the whole crew of characters and how we got multiple romances - always one of my favorites! Enna created such a unique world and real characters that had both strengths and weaknesses. The ending was hard won, and I think this book also did a good job of remembering those who were lost along the way. Such a wonderful series! Until the very end!

Because you’re reading the reviews, you must be familiar with the deputant turned warrior/queen, the general to self appointed king, the halfbreed Dhemon/vampire from bonded to broken, the dragons, play their own part in this world plus the numerous family, friends, allies, and enemies this final book is my favorite for it wraps up all the loose ends and brings them to an end, some happy some not so much. It’s up to you reader to come experience their journey and find out for yourself.
Enna has a way of drawing you into and making you a part of her story and I’m looking forward to her next read.

Do yourself a favor AND READ THIS SERIES. It’s going to be big one day!!!

I’ve been anticipating this release since the moment I finished book 1 and now that it’s here and I INHALED the story, I am so heartbroken it’s over.

Just as the first 3, TOBOK was beautifully written and brought action and high stakes that had me sweating from page 1. Enna’s writing has only improved with each installation of this series and she knows just how to hurt her reader’s feelings and take them on an emotional roller coaster through grief, fear and happiness.

At this point in the story, our beloved characters are gearing up to face the oppressive new vampire king with a band of unlikely allies. Everything they’ve trained for, everyone they’ve lost, has brought them all to these final moments. I was racing towards the final page to see who survived and what would become of Azriel and Ariadne’s fate and I was not disappointed.

Book 4 of The Dhemon Wars perfectly ties off every character’s arc leaving a deep feeling of satisfaction & completion. No stone is left unturned and for that I am grateful. It was perfect, absolutely perfect.

Thank you Enna for these characters and this world.

Until

End

I wish I could rate this 10 stars or 20. But I’m stuck with 5 and I suppose that’ll have to do. Enna is masterful bringing together the full story in a beautiful and satisfying way.

To say I am soooo thrilled by a certain death would be an absolute understatement. And like true Enna fashion, this book had me crying, sitting on the edge of my seat, and kicking my feet in glee.

Now I’m sad. Sooo damn sad that it’s over.
