Invi Wright is the author of several romance novels, including The Female series, Aine, and The Professor. She had just begun her career in marketing when she decided to start a new hobby— writing. After many tears and more anger walks than is probably healthy, she decided to pursue writing full-time and began the journey of becoming a self-published author.
Queens - Book 5 in this world and the second spin-off.
I have a lot of thoughts.
First up: Rexton. This man was present for the birth of Cassia’s siblings, spent the first five years of her life around the family, and is best friends with her mum. Yes, he didn’t completely watch her grow up, but… it still gave me the ick. I wasn’t fully disgusted, but I kept thinking back to it.
Cassia herself is confusing and, honestly, pretty unlikeable for a big chunk of the book. I know it comes from her insecurity. But she was hard to stomach a lot of the time. I also felt Cassia might be written as being on the spectrum.
Pacing-wise The first 70% dragged and the last 30% flew by. It felt uneven, and I kind of blame the editing. Speaking of which. Chev’s eldest is suddenly a 17 year old girl? At the end of the last book he had twins… a boy and a girl. Continuity?.
And then the whole time his name was Rexton?! Why were we calling him Rock? It’s not exactly a name that needed a nickname.
I did eventually fall into the romance trap with Cassia and Rexton, it just took a lot of willpower to get there.
I’ll always keep reading Invi’s books because she’s one of my favourites, but this one left me feeling a little let down.
I have loved this series so much!! I really loved cassia in this book. I feel like the author really captured her personality well as a wrath and I love how much Rexton softened & empowered her!! When I realized rexton was rock I was like omggg. It was very cute. The last chapter was such a cliffhanger and I’m so ready to read more.

It’s predictable, which isn’t uncommon for the genre, but you can tell what’s going to happen as soon as the characters meet with their real identities.
There’s some obvious plot/world building holes I have personal issues with (modern technology is suddenly barely used and only for work?) and by far has the longest build up when compared to the other books in the series with the smallest payoff.
There’s also the “one bed” trope, which I feel is disingenuous to the story and feels like a way to hurry it along. I feel like this book was rushed to be published, or edited and too much was removed.
The world can be interesting at times and I was let down by the fact that the relationship seems to both move so slow through the books chapters to bring us into the future from where the previous book left off yet they are really only enemies and then suddenly “mates” after days. I already have what feels like a solid prediction on what happens in the next book but I hope I’m wrong.
2.5 ⭐ Buckle the fuck up because I'm going to rant.... still here? okay .. I have read (finished and DNF'd) almost 400 books this year and Cassia is my least favorite character out of any of these books. Protagonist, antagonist...you name it, she's number one. I HATED her character with a fiery burning passion. I found myself skipping full paragraphs just to read the dialogue so I didn't have to read her inner monologue bs. We get it, girl, you are so insecure. Getting off my soap box now I loved Rock. Weird that he dated a kid that he would babysit and was around for when she was born. it wasn't enough to give me the ick, but spiked my radar I did love seeing the kids all grown up and thought the story line was great, I just thought the FMC was insufferable Also, that last chapter....woah.
I loved the series and all though this one was predictable, this one was by far my favorite!!! I NEED another book with Rexton and Cassia! Maybe when she becomes Queen, or when they have a baby? I don’t know, but I want more of their relationship! I absolutely loved it! I get that a book on Valeria is coming out, but I want this story! Ok, let me go back! Yes Cassia was annoying as hell! Especially the first half of the book. I kept finding myself flipping forward through the pages to see when Rexton’s point of view would come up. But I love their relationship! And it did seem to take forever to get to where they became mates and then it was rushed. Which is why, I need more of them.

out of all her books on this series, i really had high hopes for this book and i just felt it wasnt enough of rexton and cassia's story i hope theres more
Favorite of the 5 books. Mostly because cassias character is hilarious and I love the way the author shifts her writing style to narrate each character
